Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since
that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some
of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently
supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly
upload the updated logs by running only once:

[Bug 1723080] Re: Caldav Issues with evolution 3.26

2018-05-12 Thread Kirk Wolff
Thanks Jürgen, I wasn't clear if it was a bug in evolution or in
synology. I had expected the caldav feature on synology would have been
well supported, apparently not. After running into this problem, I
decided to look into alternatives to synology altogether and ran accross
nextcloud as it provides several features that I can use for my small
business such as shared calendars and video conference. Hopefully
someone that just wants to use synology for caldav calendaring and tasks
will run across this and make use of your solution.

Thanks again!
- Kirk

[Bug 1770827] Re: GDM doesn’t use alternative for lock screen

2018-05-12 Thread Remco Haszing
My Gnome theme is Awaita-dark, but I don’t see how this is related.

/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gdm3.css is a symlink to /etc/alternatives/gdm3.css
/etc/alternatives/gdm3.css is configured using update-alternatives
/etc/alternatives/gdm3.css by default is a symlink to
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css
/etc/alternatives/gdm3.css in my case is a symlink to
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/trinity.css

Modifying /etc/alternatives/gdm3.css (aka
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gdm3.css) impacts the login screen
Modifying /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css impacts the lock screen
By default this is the same as the login screen.

I would expect the lock screen to also use gdm3.css instead of
ubuntu.css.

[Bug 1600606] Re: Totem is missing the playlist. Please reintroduce it.

2018-05-12 Thread Raoul Verveer
When you open multiple files with Totem, they are put in a queue and
will play after each other. The previous and Next buttons still work,
but there is no way to see the playlist or to edit it.

Get rid of the playlist functionality entirely or make the playlist view
/ sidebar accessible via the menu or preferences. The implementation as
it stands now provides is confusing and has unexpected behavior.

So, this is a bug, since the user experience is broken and it should be
reported upstream as such.

[Bug 1770850] Re: Login Screen text missing

2018-05-12 Thread GerdG
Reinstalling ubuntu-desktop didn't change anything.

So I tried to find other posts with the same problem.
It seems my English was not good enough to use the best keywords in the
previous searches. But this time I found something new:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1029784/ubuntu-18-04-missing-letters-in-login-screen/1034235
Especially the picture there look exactly like mine.

And that pointed me to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1760201
So I tried setting WaylandEnable=false and it seems to work
I do not understand what that will do and the it feels more like a workaround
than a fix, but that's god enough for me.

Maybe this will help your analysis of the root cause.

[Bug 1770883] [NEW] Shift key does not work for first character of password

2018-05-12 Thread Timothy Ma
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

gnome-shell 3.28.1-0ubuntu2

Repro:
1. Cold boot OR resume from standby OR lock (e.g. super + L) and wait for
screen to fade
2. Use mouse to reveal password input
3. (optional, can happen whether or not you do this) Right click password box
and select "Show Text"
4. Press SHIFT + (any key)

Expected result:
Character corresponding to SHIFT + key is inputted into the password box.

Actual result:
Character corresponding to key (without SHIFT) is inputted into the password
box.

Other notes:
If any key is pressed prior to inputting password then the SHIFT + key works
properly. E.g. if I press enter to reveal the password input, or if I press
SHIFT an extra time before step 4 of the repro.

2018-05-12 Thread GerdG
Thank your for the fast answers.
I have to admit I am just an Ubuntu user not an expert, so your recommendations
were difficult for me.

What would "startx" do? My login screen is strange, but afterwards
graphical desktop is running.

In another thread I found for "reinstall ubuntu":

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop
sudo apt-get build-dep ubuntu-desktop

Correct?

Afterwards I'll look what "gtkorphan & bleachbit" mean.

Additional remark: I am using the cinnamon desktop. Sorry, I forgot to mention
that.
Can that be the reason that some recommended packages were not installed?

You can reinstall 'ubuntu-desktop' to see if other packages are also missing.

Take time to clean the system after a dist-upgrade, via gtkorphan &
bleachbit (as root, carefully select options) and reboot.

Finally glance at warnings/errors via 'journalctl-b'

[Bug 1770850] [NEW] Login Screen text missing

2018-05-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After updating to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS the login screen shows no user names, just
the user icons.
In the follow up screen some letters are missing e.g. "Cancel" is written "Ca
l ", see screenshots.
https://www.pic-upload.de/view-35312811/ubuntu18.04.login-screen.png.html

If I toggle the text settings "large texts = on/off" the texts appear. (In this
dropdown menu single letters are missing, too.)
So I think it might be a rendering problem.

Any hints?
Thanks in advance...

I am not sure if this is a bug by ubuntu or by me.

[Bug 1765261]

2018-05-12 Thread Christian
I am still seeing this or a related bug. With gnome-shell 3.28.1-3.fc28
installed, every text I type is using the english (US) keyboard layout
in gdm, no matter what keyboard layout I configured. Switching the
layout at runtime does not change anything. I have 3 layouts configured
(de: neo, de: nodeadkeys, us). GDM always uses the last one no matter
which one I configure.

On any tty and within any Gnome session, keyboard layouts behave
correctly, using the default de:neo keyboard layout.

This looks like bug #1573923 to me.

[Bug 1723080] Re: Caldav Issues with evolution 3.26

2018-05-12 Thread Jürgen Kübler
Hi Kirk,
I found a solution. The issue seems to be an outdated version of caldav used
for Synology's webdav server. Here is what I did
- Expert calendar and tasks list (separately) to ics files
- Deactivate caldav in the webdav server
- Installed the new calendar application in my Diskstation
(https://www.synology.com/en-global/dsm/feature/calendar)
- Create a new calendar (not that you cannot delete the default calendar 'my
calendar', which can be anoying)
- Imported the calendar via web interface
- Created new calendar and task list in evolution
- Used evolution to import task list
Somewhat cumbersome but it worked. Two positive side effects:
- It was easy to implement separate calendars for 'home' and 'work'
- The new calendar better integrates with my iPhone. I can now invite others
to appointments from my iPhone. This option was not available with the
previous solution.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Jürgen

[Bug 1767027] Re: Search current folder only in nautilus 3.26.3 doesn't work (Ubuntu 18.04)

2018-05-12 Thread Chris Billington
That example was my home directory, and all the files were either in my
home directory or a subfolder.

Attached is another example from within the root directory a python
project 'zprocess', searching for 'py'.

Here is the result of the find command (excluding hidden files and
folders):

zprocess $ find . -not -path '*/\.*' -name '*py*' | sort
./doc/conf.py
./run_tests.py
./setup.py
./tests/output_redirection.py
./tests/tests.py
./zprocess/clientserver.py
./zprocess/examples/example_client.py
./zprocess/examples/example_server.py
./zprocess/examples/processclass_example.py
./zprocess/__init__.py
./zprocess/locking/__init__.py
./zprocess/locking/__main__.py
./zprocess/process_class_wrapper.py
./zprocess/process_tree.py
./zprocess/remote/__main__.py
./zprocess/security.py
./zprocess/utils.py
./zprocess/zlog/__init__.py
./zprocess/zlog/__main__.py

As far as I can tell, it is performing search as if 'search in
subfolders' option was set to 'On this computer only', even though the
preferences interface shows it set to 'never'.

If I search a remote location it appears to correctly limit search to
the current directory.

[Bug 1770827] Re: GDM doesn’t use alternative for lock screen

2018-05-12 Thread Tim Lunn
the gdm greeter/login screen and the lock screen are mostly independent.

The gdm greeter runs its own instance of gnome-shell running in a
special gdm mode.

The lock screen is drawn by the current gnome-shell session and thus
uses the current gnome-shell theme.

What gnome-shell theme are you using? I assume it is not adwaita.
probably what you want to is to set the alternative to your gnome-shell
theme

[Bug 1770827] [NEW] GDM doesn’t use alternative for lock screen

2018-05-12 Thread Remco Haszing
Public bug reported:

I have configured a custom alternative for gdm3.css.

$ update-alternatives --display gdm3.css
gdm3.css - manual mode
  link best version is /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css
  link currently points to /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/trinity.css
  link gdm3.css is /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gdm3.css
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/trinity.css - priority 1
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css - priority 10

This alternative is used for the login screen, but not for the lock
screen. I would expect this to be used for both.

** Affects: gdm3 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1770826] [NEW] Build Error: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"

2018-05-12 Thread Harald
Public bug reported:

Just after installation of Ubuntu 18.04 I entered in a Terminal "apt-get
source gimp". Then I changed to "gimp-2.8.22" and tried to build GIMP
with "dpkg-buildpackage -b -us -uc". I installed all dependents. At the
end of the build some tests are performed automatically. Some tests
failed with 'Failed to load "canberra-gtk-module"' (see test-suite.log
attachment).

[Bug 1769981] Re: Temporary screen freeze when coming back from screen standby

2018-05-12 Thread Alberto Donato
Thanks Daniel,

the core file I got from the crash (in my home dir) shows as

core: ELF 64-bit LSB core file x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), SVR4-style,
from '/usr/bin/Xwayland :0 -rootless -terminate -accessx -core -listen 4
-listen 5 -d', real uid: 1000, effective uid: 1000, real gid: 1000,
effective gid: 1000, execfn: '/usr/bin/Xwayland', platform: 'x86_64'

If I try to run "ubuntu-bug core" on it, I get a dialog saying that the
problem cannot be reported because the core is about a snap published by
Canonical.

[Bug 1685141] Re: System freezes after locking screen

2018-05-12 Thread Otto
I also had this problem with AMD64 & Nvidia Geforce, but it doesn't actually
freeze the system, you just can't get out of the screen lock.
I solved it by un-checking the option to show notifications on the lock screen
- no problems since then.
