After running 'xset dpms force off' with lid closed on a laptop to
disable the backlight, moving the mouse or touching the keyboard will
cause the backlight to turn back on. The backlight should never turn on
under any circumstances when the lid is closed, unless maybe in the case
that the user runs 'xset dpms force on' explicitly.

Sounds more like an ACPI bug to me, but I'm not very familiar with that side of

[Bug 1773597] Re: USB flash drive won't mount

2018-06-12 Thread Roy Kimbrell
The latest Ubuntu update included Linux version 4.15.0-23-generic. This
appears, after a single test after a reboot, to have allowed a FAT-
formatted USB memory stick to be recognized and mounted. I opened the
device and copied a file to it then unmounted it with no problem.

However, the encrypted device still does not work. When inserted, a
dialog box appears that allows no input except in it. I entered the pass
phrase, but nothing happened except the pass phrase (dots only) were
spread out beyond their input area. The machine was effectively locked
out. Previously, I had power cycled the machine to get out of this
condition, but this time I had an appointment and just left it. When I
returned several hours later, the dialog box had disappeared. Yet I was
not able to access the device: a box with an error message appeared
instead. Nor could it be ejected: "Writing data to Lexar USB Flash Drive
Device should not be unplugged."

Initially I thought the system is frozen, but log shows that it still

[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-06-12 Thread Brian Murray
The policy for Stable Release Updates is to let them age a minimum of 7
days in the -proposed pocket before releasing them to the -updates
pocket. Reading the comments here I've noticed that the automated SRU
testing comment doesn't make any reference to that 7 day period nor does
it point to the wiki page that documents the aging period. I'll work
getting that fixed shortly.

Speaking with another SRU team member we've decided to waive the 7 day
period and will release the fixed version of gdm3 today.

[Bug 1771290] Re: Untranslated list of encodings in preferences

2018-06-12 Thread Iain Lane
SGTM in bionic-proposed.

** Description changed:

+ [ Description ]
+
The list of encodings in Preferences → Compatibility is in English. The
list in the Terminal → Set Character Encoding menu is properly
  translated, though.

  Upstream bugreport: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=795358

  Upstream trivial fix: https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-
  terminal/commit/?h=gnome-3-28=1828cb6d5
+
+ [ QA ]
+
+ If you're using English, install another locale and its translations and
+ then-
+
+ LC_ALL=fr_FR.UTF-8 /usr/lib/gnome-terminal/gnome-terminal-server --app-
+ id=com.foo
+
+ in another terminal
+
+ /usr/bin/gnome-terminal.real --app-id=com.foo
+
+ Navigate to Edit -> Preferences -> -> Compatibility and have
+ a look at the Encoding combo (the third one down since this is not
+ actually in English for you). Check that e.g. Hebrew says Hébreu.
+
+ [ Regression potential ]
+
+ Under the upstream MRE, you can believe this is fixed.
+
+ [ Original description ]

Could you please backport this tiny fix to Bionic LTS?

(We're planning to release gnome-terminal 3.28.2 containing this plus at
least one other tiny fix in about a week.)

[Bug 1774167] Re: [SRU] 3.28.2 / 0.52.2

2018-06-12 Thread Iain Lane
I've been running it and it seems good to me.

Sorry, Robie, for the difficulty. I usually `quilt push' patches and
look at the resulting diff in the source so I would tend to overlook
people who read the diff.

[Bug 1776487] [NEW] Logging out does not decrease the number of logged in users

2018-06-12 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

Running GDM/GNOME 3.28 on Ubuntu 18.04.

1) Boot the system, login.

uptime shows 1 logged user.

2) Logout from GNOME and login again:

uptime shows 2 logged users, instead of 1.

3) Logout from GNOME and login again:

uptime shows 3 logged users, instead of 1.

And repeating the process shows the same results, incrementing the
number by 1 each time.

===

[ Impact ]

The number of logged users according to `uptime` grows and never goes
down

[ Test case ]

1. Login with your user and launch `uptime` from a shell
-> It should show "1 user"
2. Logout, and login again, then launch `uptime` again
-> It should show "1 user" again
3. Repeating the process, uptime users number should match the actual
   number of logged in users

[ Regression potential ]

Nothing known so far, the fix is already in upstream branches (both
stable and unstable)

[Bug 1776472] [NEW] Can't see WIFI networks on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

2018-06-12 Thread Weslley Victor
Public bug reported:

When I installed Ubuntu on my local machine I couldn't see the WIFI
networks, especially the one I use with internet access (the funny thing
is that when I tried to setup a wifi hotspot from my mobile fone Ubuntu
showed it). So, I managed to solve the problem by downloading and runing
the drivers for my network controller (Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
RTL8723BE) and now I have run a command to turn the network driver off
and on again every time the computer starts.

[Bug 1114012] Re: EOG-CRITICAL **: eog_list_store_length: assertion `EOG_IS_LIST_STORE (store)' failed

2018-06-12 Thread Marcus Hoyer
This is my first week using Linux (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS) and Python 2.7 and am
already bumping into a problem similar to that reported. In my case I open JPG
files of variable size, but in this case they are no more than 3Mb.
I also create 3 processes to split the execution on a list that can get
very large when the project is finished, I do not believe this is the problem,
because the software runs fine on Windows 7 and Windows 10 and even with the
error message the images are presented.

The following is part of the code:

Error in Python 2.7 executing by IDE PyCharm.

## CODE ##

import webbrowser

shutil.move(src, dst)
webbrowser.open(dst)

(eog:4466): EOG-CRITICAL **: 06:49:00.874:

[Bug 1776454] [NEW] Nautilus cannot handle phone connections when there are many files / photos

2018-06-12 Thread florin
Public bug reported:

Trying to copy my photos from my phone (Samsung Galaxy S8) and although
I can see the folders, when I go to DCIM, I cannot load the file list.
In Windows, this works, so it is not the phone.

Still failing with current -proposed enabled. Let's hope it solves
itself once we fixed all other instances of triggers.

[Bug 1769954] Re: package desktop-file-utils 0.23-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed

2018-06-12 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Also marking xenial as verified, as the other two have not produced any
problems, we know that the fix is correct, and the fix is tiny and
declarative, and cannot be verified for xenial itself, as mentioned in
the bug report.

[Bug 1769954] Re: package desktop-file-utils 0.23-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed

2018-06-12 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Upgrading to bionic with desktop-file-
utils_0.23-1ubuntu3.18.04.1_amd64.deb as part of the dist-upgrade also
worked fine, as expected (again, ignoring friendly-recovery failure due
to container).

Verified by first running a dist-upgrade from artful to bionic, which
failed; then first installing new desktop-file-utils before running the

(the log was for a second run, first one failed to start dist-upgrade
due to lock race, hence desktop-file-
utils_0.23-1ubuntu3.17.10.1_amd64.deb was already installed).

[Bug 1769556] Re: Snap branches shown in random order

2018-06-12 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
I am not sure how to verify this SRU because the server no longer
advertises branches (comment 4 bug 1768794) and this information is not
displayed in gnome-software. Tracks are in a predictable order.

[Bug 1768779] Re: Snap channel selection list not scrollable

2018-06-12 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
SRU verification for Bionic:
I have reproduced the problem with gnome-software 3.28.1-0ubuntu4 in bionic and
have verified that the version of gnome-software 3.28.1-0ubuntu4.18.04.1 in
-proposed fixes the issue.
However this could be improved a bit because the scrollbar overlaps with the
right side of the "switch" buttons.

Marking as verification-done
