[Bug 1778796] Re: Computer freezes on resume (after lock or suspend)
I can't fully read your crash file but can see enough to tell that your gnome-shell crashed in libgtop-2.0.so.11, which means that bug is in an extension you have installed. Likely one of the "system monitor" extensions caused that crash: GsettingsChanges: b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions' b"['ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com', 'ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com', 'arc-m...@linxgem33.com', 'openweather-extens...@jenslody.de', 'system_moni...@bghome.gmail.com', 'system-monitor-in-userm...@arthur.net', 'workspace-g...@mathematical.coffee.gmail.com', 'mediapla...@patapon.info']" So this is a bug in: gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor (or similar) Please uninstall the system monitoring extensions and any others you don't absolutely need. Next time you have a crash file please try reporting it by running: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash And if that doesn't work then try some of the steps here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment Another thing worth noting is that your nouveau kernel driver is crashing occasionally, which doesn't help. Try installing package 'nvidia-driver-390' for a more stable system. Or if you don't need the Nvidia GPU at all then consider disabling it in your BIOS. ** Package changed: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) => gnome-shell-extension- system-monitor (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1778796 Title: Computer freezes on resume (after lock or suspend) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor/+bug/1778796/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1778796] [NEW] Computer freezes on resume (after lock or suspend)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Complete freeze on resume (after lock or suspend), excepted that keyboard lights are responsive (e.g. NumLock is operational). No tty available (e.g. Ctrl+Alt+F6 does nothing). Sometimes the freeze lasts for 2-3 minutes, sometimes more and thus I need to force a manual power-off. I suspect gnome-shell to be the culprit here, since it often appears a few minutes later in a "Ubuntu crash" popup. I have this file: /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash ...but it's 312 MB which seems too large to upload here. [Bug 1778607] Re: Incorrect licenses listed in the GNOME Software for Snap Apps.
snapd is returning the following information: { "id": "XKEcBqPM06H1Z7zGOdG5fbICuf8NWK5R", "title": "Chromium", "summary": "Chromium web browser, open-source version of Chrome", ... "license": "Other Open Source", ... } i.e. the license is set to "Other Open Source". This field is supposed to be a SPDX [1] formatted string, and this value is not valid (GNOME Software defaults to proprietary if it can't decode the field). I'm assuming this is an old value that the store used to set? The solution is probably: - Ask the snap authors to update their metadata to a valid field. - Potentially check this particular value in GNOME Software and handle it (this is not going to be upstreamable though). [Bug 1246272] Re: Keyboard layout changing randomly
I have similar problem. I found the only way to set defaults for a new input device (which also applies to Xorg re-adding the same devices at some arbitrary times like suspend) at runtime, without restarting Xorg to pick up modified xorg.conf, is to set xkb* udev properties on a device (for example by adding new rule and reloading udev). [Bug 1774597] Re: G-C-C privacy option don't allow sending manual report
@Brian: I just had a deeper look after an initial tests, and brought jibel along. Indeed, there are quite some flaws on those options which never worked (but was shipped since 12.04). On top of that, I found another regression that happened probably during the upstart -> systemd transition. Those aren't linked to the current SRU, which are doing the expected thing (and those options were already available before). But we need to fix those. [Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time
It appears the only gjs fixes we are missing are: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gjs/merge_requests/121 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gjs/merge_requests/122 However the first is more to do with performance, and a little to do with memory usage. It's also included in upstream gjs releases 1.52.3 and later. The second is included in release 1.53.2. So we'll just do a version upgrade of gjs in cosmic for that right now and people can try it out. As for the rest of the fixes: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/64 they are in mutter. Either already released in mutter version 3.28.1, or too small to backport early, or actually not to do with memory usage. So in summary I think we are only missing gjs!121 and gjs!122 in Ubuntu: * cosmic: will get it as part of an update to the latest gjs version. * bionic: may get it later if people feel it's useful. Please correct me if I am wrong and have missed anything. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gjs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1672297 Title: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1672297/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1774597] Re: G-C-C privacy option don't allow sending manual report
If there is a need for a 3rd party package for it, it means that whoopsie-preferences is broken for quite some years: the automatic option was present in g-c-c for years in ubuntu, and just use whoopsie- preferences API to turn this automatic send mode. Note that the API doesn't report any error in the default install configuration. As you are familiar with the internal of whoopsie and apport, do you mind having a look? As this only introduces a "never" report mode, and the "auto" one was here since whoopsie integration? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774597 Title: G-C-C privacy option don't allow sending manual report To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1774597/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
