[Bug 1782347] Re: [radeon] GDM3 fails to load without nomodeset

2018-07-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Mostly the same, yes. That's just a dumb bot... You can choose to either
do as it asks or to ignore it and set 'Confirmed'.

Separately, I still think something might be crashing, and when it does
you wouldn't really know a crash had occurred. Only the absence of a
working system is a hint. Please complete steps 2 and 3 from comment #10
just in case.

[Bug 1295627] Re: Wrong language (German) after fresh install

2018-07-26 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Just noticed this bug report.

It's not a bug. You don't explicitly set the regional format in the
installer, but the installer 'guesses' that setting based on the time
zone location. So if you state Brussels for time zone, it seems to pick
the de_BE.UTF-8 locale.

If you want something else, e.g. Dutch:

1. Install the Dutch language (to have the applicable locales generated)

2. Select Dutch as the region.

Closing.

[Bug 1779476] Re: Ubuntu 18.04: gdm3 does not switch to graphics after update

2018-07-26 Thread Joachim Schwender
I noticed similar effect with very recent (4.17) kernels. In 4.16.8
there were changes in random.c due to a security flaw. The function that
detects "having enough entropy" is now strictly blocking. In the early
boot phase this is bad on any machine without enough entropy sources.
The kernel has 3 such sources: character devices, block devices and
interrupts. On newer machines you can also have hardware random engines
like in intel cores gen3+ (ivy bridge). This effect does not appear on
computers with such a hw-rng. If you have one without hw-rng, and with a
SSD only (they are not used for entropy gathering) and you don't mode
your mouse, you are likely seeing this. The bad thing is, this kernel
patch is actually necessary to prevent the system starting with
insufficient safe random numbers. I applied a patch that removes commit
43838a23a05fbd13e47d750d3dfd77001536dd33 in the kernel. After this
change the startup worked like expected, but this is not a solution as
it re-invents CVE-2018-1108. An idea would be to add a hw-rng like
https://www.crowdsupply.com/13-37/infinite-noise-trng, but i did not
test that so far. Check your cpu for the rdrand flag (lscpu). An entropy
deamon like rngd helps only if you have entropy sources that it can use.

[Bug 1783817] Re: Nautilus doesnt know what its doing, showing unneccesary progress bars

2018-07-26 Thread Qik00
** Description changed:

- Ubuntu 18.04
+ Ubuntu 18.04
  GNOME nautilus 3.26.3

-When renaming a file it creates a warning "Pending operations on files,
press cancel to cancel" but it appears AFTER the renaming process has finished
(which is dealt with in a blink of an eye)
-When moving even a small file (1Kb for example) it shows progress bar which
is stuck at around 33% and dissapears after Nautilus finally realizes that the
file is already moved

Nautilus shouldnt display theese, especially the warning after renaming
a file, and teh progress should only appear when dealing with large
  files

The solution seems to be installing and enabling/running zeitgeist and
- also chown`ing its directoer in .local/share recursively to the user
+ also chown`ing its directory in .local/share recursively to the user

[Bug 1782347] Re: [radeon] GDM3 fails to load without nomodeset

2018-07-26 Thread zanonmark
apport information

** Description changed:

Both with the livecd (usb drive) and the installed version, I must boot with
the 'nomodeset' kernel parameter at GRUB; otherwise GDM3 will not boot (the
screen will keep on flashing in semi-textual mode, with a white mouse arrow
stuck).
This, however, prevents me from using the 'radeon' video driver, dropping me
to a very basic 1024x768 vesa mode.

The bug did NOT occur on Ubuntu 12.04, so it is a regression.
Also, the bug does NOT occur on XUbuntu/XFCE 18.04, so it is a GDM3-Gnome
related thing.

  Thanks,
  MZ

[Bug 1780996] Re: Convert triggers to noawait

2018-07-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package pike7.8 - 7.8.866-5ubuntu0.1

---
pike7.8 (7.8.866-5ubuntu0.1) xenial; urgency=medium

  * Convert triggers to noawait (LP: #1780996) - the trigger is only building
a cache, pike uses the source otherwise, so it's safe to have stuff not
wait for it.

[Bug 1780996] Re: Convert triggers to noawait

2018-07-26 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
After some discussion with Brian on the SRU verification procedures for
this bug, we decided that the upgrade test done in #51 is sufficient for
verification of this bug. For syslog-ng-incubator the upgrade test was a
bit more complicated due to it conflicting with ubuntu-minimal - so
there's no good way to get it tested anyway.

Let's mark this as good to go.
