Re: [Bug 1758306] Re: Cannot switch mouse primary button to Right (left-handed) in Settings

2018-09-12 Thread Stephen Allen
I found that in my situation it was the upgrade not working good with some
config settings in my ~/home. When I was beta testing, I don't think the
Ubuntu developers considered that many problems are associated with
upgrades. Once I did a clean install, this situation was gone.

2018-09-12 Thread Leoncio de Queiroz Maya
Thank you Cas.
Let me answer to your suggestions.

Check all updates are installed? Try proposed updates?
I always install all updates.

Is this with mouse or trackpad?
I only use the trackpad.

Have you checked what gsettings is reporting?

gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.mouse left-handed
true

Perhaps try a booting with a livecd ubuntu and test mouse there. I don't
have a CD with Ubuntu 18.04.

I started using Ubuntu with version 12.04 and I have updated it to
versions 14.04 and 16.04. The left-handed mode always worked fine. A
couple of weeks ago, I was offered to install version 18.04. The bug
started after the installation of this new version. I must say it is
very annoying.

[Bug 1792208] [NEW] nautilus 3.30 for cosmic in universe repro

2018-09-12 Thread gebi
Public bug reported:

Hi,

just a wish - would it be possible to include nautilus 3.30 for cosmic
as unsupported alternative to 3.26 i.e. in the universe repro ?

Advanced users (not complaining about the missing desktop icons support) can
easily give it a try.
I read somewhere that a snap is planned but I'm skeptical how well the desktop
integration will work..

[Bug 1791991] Re: Nautilus in Gnome3 Staging PPA does not create thumbnails (tiff)

2018-09-12 Thread Harry
OK, I looked at the file default.rule file.
And I found out that it belongs to the package tracker.
However, that package is in universe now.
I did not have it installed.

Anyway, after installing the package tracker, nautilus did start.
But the thumbnailer still did not work.
It did show of course the thumbnails that were created by the official nautilus
version,
but it did not create any new ones (tiff).

So I deleted this experimental nautilus and tracker and returned back to
the official ones.

[Bug 1792167] [NEW] Display size detected wrongly

2018-09-12 Thread Dark Dragon
Public bug reported:

Since Ubuntu switched to Gnome, display scaling does not work correctly.
This is because my external monitor is detected as 7" although it is
32". All applications which use Qt auto scaling have huge controls!

It seems like many users have the same problem
(https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2390362) and thus disable Qt
auto scaling. I think the solution should be to fix the size detection
instead.

Further, it seems not related to graphics driver, since I personally use
the open source driver with my internal Intel card, whereas someone else
uses a proprietary Nvidia driver
(https://askubuntu.com/q/1066879/206608).

If it is in the wrong category, please move it / add the corresponding
packages.

If you need any further information to tackle the problem, just tell me!

[Bug 1758306] Re: Cannot switch mouse primary button to Right (left-handed) in Settings

2018-09-12 Thread Cas
@leonciomaya

This issue was definitely fixed so you there is likely something else
going on with your system. Here are some suggestions:

Check all updates are installed? Try proposed updates?
Is this with mouse or trackpad?
Have you checked what gsettings is reporting?

gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.mouse left-handed

Perhaps try a booting with a livecd ubuntu and test mouse there.

I will also say that it can be assumed that everyone including the OP
consider this specific issue fixed (I am muting this bug). Therefore you
will need to open a new launchpad bug. You can also use the ubuntu
forums or IRC for direct help with diagnosing the issue.

[Bug 1787193] Re: copying via Nautilus over the lan is very slow

I went back to 16.04.5 LTS for one of the laptops (kernel 4.15). I was
surprised to get the same disappointing results as with 18.04.1 LTS.
Exactly the same scripts yield a satisfactory performance with an older
version of 16.04 LTS (kernel 4.4)!

[Bug 1010866] Re: No Keyboard Layout option in lock screen

2018-09-12 Thread Sergos
Also in 18.04 - after upgrade from 16.04.

At some point the UI keyboard switcher is not available, so I stuck with
locked screen. My input is switched from US to RU, so no way to pick the
right symbols.

An I tried to use a different shortcut - such as Ctrl-Space - it didn't
work.

[Bug 1791991] Re: Nautilus in Gnome3 Staging PPA will not start

2018-09-12 Thread Harry
I did get the default.rule error (starting from terminal) when I had installed
both the nautilus_3.30.0-0ubuntu1~cosmic1 and the tracker_2.1.3-1~cosmic1
packeges.
As I mentioned, at that time nautilus did not start, the small wheel on the
screen just kept on turning.

Then, after downgrading tracker_2.1.3-1~cosmic1 back to the official
tracker_2.0.3-3, I did get nautilus_3.30.0-0ubuntu1~cosmic1 running.
However, the thumbnailer did not work then.

Sorry, I am not familiar with the backtrace system.

[Bug 1791991] Re: Nautilus in Gnome3 Staging PPA will not start

2018-09-12 Thread Tim Lunn
Hi Harry,
Thank you for your bug report.

I am running nautilus 3.30 with tracker 2.1.3 on two system and they
are both working, so we will need some more info. Thumbnails are working
also

That default.rule file does exist in the tracker 2.1.3-1~cosmic1
package, is it not installed on your filesystem?

does nautilus crash? if so can you get a backtrace. Unfortunately we no
longer have retracers running against this ppa, so that need to be done
manually using ubuntu-bug.

[Bug 1792085] [NEW] MTP no more working on Bionic

2018-09-12 Thread Lancillotto
Public bug reported:

Hi, unfortunately (for me) MTP android devices no more work on Ubuntu
18.04.

I have used MTP on 16.04 without problems, but on 18.04 it does not
work. When I connect my Android devices (Samsung A5 and Samsung J3) and
I try to list directories with many files (e.g. /DCIM/Camera) the window
hangs until I disconnect the device. Same issue if I try to post the
command "ls /var/run/1000/gvfs/".

I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 on two different machines - an older HP
laptop and a recent DELL laptop - and the issue is present on the all of
them.

I suspect a defect on the "libmtp". I tried many alternative solutions
suggested by the net (e.g. jmtpfs and so on) but anyone worked.

That's all!

Although the stack trace in this bug sounds a bit broken. I think bug
1790992 might be more accurate.
