[Bug 1796722] Re: Unusual Region & Language settings on Live Session after clicking "Try Ubuntu"

2018-10-11 Thread Jun Kobayashi
#7 is accidentally posted.

I don't know much about other than Janpanese, but I can confirm input-souces
settings are different between "choosing language on isolinux menu" and
"choosing langage on Ubiquity Greeter" for above languages.

Hope this clarifies the issue.

[Bug 1796722] Re: Unusual Region & Language settings on Live Session after clicking "Try Ubuntu"

2018-10-11 Thread Jun Kobayashi
Thank you for your reply.

It seems to me this bug is a little different from the bug #1786344.
Comment #10 of the bug #1786344 you wrote could be related this bug,
but other comments may be related to other problem on inputting chinese.

> Besides that, it's unclear to me how your other observations are
> problems. If you think they are, please let us know what you think

This bug occurs only after maybe-ubiquity mode(ubiquity --greeter).
According to the bug #1766047, it's impossible to boot in maybe-ubiquity mode
when booting in UEFI. So this bug occurs when booting in legacy BIOS.

When choosing 日本語(Japanese) on isolinux menu and select
インストールせずにUbuntuを試してみる(Try Ubuntu without installing),
I can use Mozc without problems on live session.
dconf shows ('ibus', 'mozc-jp') for input-sources as follows.
This is totally expected behavior.
--
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd quiet splash
--- debian-installer/language=ja keyboard-configuration/layoutcode?=jp
keyboard-configuration/modelcode?=jp106
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ dconf dump /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/
[/]
sources=[('xkb', 'jp'), ('ibus', 'mozc-jp')]
xkb-options=['lv3:ralt_switch']
--

But when waiting for ubiquity greeter dialog, select 日本語(Japanese), click
Ubuntuを試す(Try Ubuntu),
I can't use Mozc on live session.
no ('ibus', 'mozc-jp') for input-sources and rarely used Japanese input sources
are listed as follows.
--
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd quiet splash
--- maybe-ubiquity
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ dconf dump /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/
[/]
sources=[('xkb', 'jp'), ('xkb', 'nec_vndr/jp'), ('xkb', 'jp+OADG109A'), ('xkb',
'jp+dvorak')]
xkb-options=@as []
--

I tried selecting other languages, the result is as follows.

Select Simplified Chinese on isolinux menu:
--
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd quiet splash
--- locale=zh_CN keyboard-configuration/layoutcode?=cn
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ dconf dump /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/
[/]
sources=[('xkb', 'cn'), ('ibus', 'libpinyin')]
xkb-options=['lv3:ralt_switch']
--
I don't know this is ideal settings for Chinese or not, but it includes
('ibus', 'libpinyin') anyway.

Select Simplified Chinese on Ubiquity Greeter:
--
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd quiet splash
--- maybe-ubiquity
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ dconf dump /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/
[/]
sources=[('xkb', 'cn')]
xkb-options=@as []
--
Only [('xkb', 'cn')] is. This is the same as comment #10 of bug #1786344.

Select English on isolinux menu:
--
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd quiet splash
---
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ dconf dump /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/
[/]
sources=[('xkb', 'us')]
xkb-options=@as []
--

Select English on Ubiquity Greeter:
--
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd quiet splash
--- maybe-ubiquity
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ dconf dump /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/
[/]
sources=[('xkb', 'us'), ('xkb', 'au'), ('xkb', 'cm'), ('xkb', 'gb')]
xkb-options=@as []
--
4 input sources are listed.

Select Svenska on isolinux menu:
--
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd quiet splash
--- debian-installer/language=sv keyboard-configuration/layoutcode?=se
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ dconf dump /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/
[/]
sources=[('xkb', 'se')]
xkb-options=['lv3:ralt_switch']
--

Select Svenska on Ubiquity Greeter:
--
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd quiet splash
--- maybe-ubiquity
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ dconf dump /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/
[/]
sources=[('xkb', 'se'), ('xkb', 'se+dvorak'), ('xkb', 'se+mac'), ('xkb',
'se+nodeadkeys')]
xkb-options=@as []
--

I don't know much about other than Janpanese, but I can confirm input-
souces settings

[Bug 1797322] Re: gsd-rfkill-manager fails to receive rfkill event

2018-10-11 Thread ethan.hsieh
Thanks for your reminder. Bug description has been updated.

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ The default encoding for GIOChannel is UTF-8, but rfkill event is binary
+ data. gsd-rfkill-manager will fail to receive rfkill event if rfkill-idx
+ is larger than 127.
+
+ The solution is to set the encoding of GIOChannel as NULL (binary data).
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ 1) Enable the -proposed repository, and install new "gnome-settings-
+ daemon-schemas" and "gnome-settings-daemon"
+
+ 2) Reboot system
+
+ 3) Run suspend/resume test more than 127 times and then check if BT
+ settings still works well.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Low. The default encoding for GIOChannel is wrong. Just set correct
+ encoding to receive rfkill event.
+
+ ---
+
  The default encoding for GIOChannel is UTF-8, but rfkill event is binary
  data. If the value is invalid UTF-8, gsd-rfkill-manager will fail to
  receive rfkill event.

  Steps: Run suspend/resume Test (> 127 times)
  Failure Rate: 100%

  In some platforms, bt will be re-probed after s3. If bt is re-probed,
  rfkill-idx will increase. And, 128 is the first invalid UTF-8

[Bug 1448778] Re: Evince fails to display some fonts (some font thing failed)

2018-10-11 Thread Seth Arnold
Nearly all the AppArmor rules provided by upstream AppArmor include
'owner' prefixes on files and directories within user home directories.
This is intentional -- for example, the file
includes:

  owner @{HOME}/.fonts.conf r,
  owner @{HOME}/.fonts/ r,
  owner @{HOME}/.fonts/**   r,
  owner @{HOME}/.local/share/fonts/ r,
  owner @{HOME}/.local/share/fonts/**   r,
  owner @{HOME}/.fonts.cache-2  mr,
  owner @{HOME}/.{,cache/}fontconfig/   r,
  owner @{HOME}/.{,cache/}fontconfig/** mrl,
  owner @{HOME}/.fonts.conf.d/  r,
  owner @{HOME}/.fonts.conf.d/**r,
  owner @{HOME}/.config/fontconfig/ r,
  owner @{HOME}/.config/fontconfig/**   r,

  /usr/local/share/fonts/   r,
  /usr/local/share/fonts/** r,

Whoever owns the fonts in your ~/.fonts/ directory can probably gain
execution privileges by whatever program is rendering the fonts.

You could store your fonts in /usr/local/share/fonts/ if they are
appropriate for multiple users on the system.

Or you could amend /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.evince if you want
these fonts to be available to evince without storing them in
/usr/local/share/fonts/.

Thanks

[Bug 1797275] [NEW] libgtk-3-bin v. 3.22.30-1ubuntu1: Binary "gtk-query-immodules-3.0" is absent.

2018-10-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The binary "gtk-query-immodules-3.0" is absent from package. The package
DOES include the man-page for "gtk-query-immodules-3.0", but not the
actual utility it documents.

I downloaded the source tarball "gtk+3.0_3.22.30-1ubuntu1.debian.tar.xz"
and untar-ed it:

 |$ ls ./
 |debian
 |gtk+3.0_3.22.30-1ubuntu1.debian.tar.xz

 |$ ls ./debian/libgtk-3-bin*
 |debian/libgtk-3-bin.install
 |debian/libgtk-3-bin.links.in

 |$ cat ./debian/libgtk-3-bin.install
 |usr/bin/broadwayd
 |usr/bin/gtk-builder-tool
 |usr/bin/gtk-launch
 |usr/bin/gtk-query-settings
 |usr/share/gettext/its/gtkbuilder.its
 |usr/share/gettext/its/gtkbuilder.loc
 |usr/share/man/man1/broadwayd.1
 |usr/share/man/man1/gtk-builder-tool.1
 |usr/share/man/man1/gtk-launch.1
 |usr/share/man/man1/gtk-query-immodules-3.0.1
 |usr/share/man/man1/gtk-query-settings.1

Qualifiers:
1)
 |$ lsb_release -rd
 |Description:  Linux Mint 19 Tara
 |Release:  19

2)
 |$ apt-cache policy libgtk-3-bin
 |libgtk-3-bin:
 |  Installed: 3.22.30-1ubuntu1
 |  Candidate: 3.22.30-1ubuntu1
 |  Version table:
 | *** 3.22.30-1ubuntu1 500
 |500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main i386 Packages
 |100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

 |$ ls /usr/share/man/man1/gtk-query*
 |/usr/share/man/man1/gtk-query-immodules-2.0.1.gz
 |/usr/share/man/man1/gtk-query-immodules-3.0.1.gz
 |/usr/share/man/man1/gtk-query-settings.1.gz

 |$ ls /usr/bin/gtk-query*
 |/usr/bin/gtk-query-settings

3) I am experimenting with development of specialized immodules for
GtkEntry widget. I expect to be able to install these additional modules
and for my application to access them per the instructions in the Gtk+3
documentation.

4)
 |$ whereis gtk-query-immodules-3.0
 |gtk-query-immodules-3:

Thank you!

[Bug 1795637] Re: No login screen when booting Cosmic due to plymouth racing with the rest of the boot process and not releasing DRM devices in time

2018-10-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package plymouth - 0.9.3-1ubuntu10

---
plymouth (0.9.3-1ubuntu10) cosmic; urgency=medium

  * Grab some commits from upstream:
+ 0009-renderer-support-reactivating-renderer-without-closi.patch,
  0010-main-Only-activate-renderers-if-the-splash-uses-pixe.patch:
  Fix (or at least improve the situation regarding!) toggling of renderers
  on and off, e.g. when pressing escape multiple times to switch between
  text and graphics.
+ 0011-drm-Remove-unnecessary-reset_scan_out_buffer_if_need.patch:
  See the patch for a detailed description, but it avoids some cases of
  renderers becoming active unnecessarily, which is related to...
+ 0013-device-manager-don-t-watch-for-udev-events-when-deac.patch:
  Don't process udev events after we've been deactivated. These can cause
  renderers to activate, which might make them claim DRM master and never
  release it, causing wayland / Xorg to fail. (LP: #1795637)
  * git_ensure_tty_closed_0a662723.patch:
+ Re-cherry-picked, as it had been rebased before. The filename is now a
  lie, since I took the commit instead of the merge, but kept as-is for
  a more sane diff.

[Bug 1797322] Re: gsd-rfkill-manager fails to receive rfkill event

2018-10-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Upload to cosmic, it would probably be a good candidate for a bionic SRU which
I guess the oem team is going to want? If so could someone adapt the
description to be SRU compliant (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates)
with impact/test case/regression potential sections.
The description has details but lack an user visible description of the error
(is it that e.g bluetooth or wifi fails to be restored after resume?)

[Bug 1797178] Re: gnome-shell activities / application icon touches not fully registering

2018-10-11 Thread Joe Barnett
Disabling extensions in the same session still shows the same behavior.
Logging out and back in again with them still disabled shows the same
behavior on the "Activities" button, but app launchers respond to touch
events appropriately. Re-enabling them in the same session keeps the
same state ("Activities" button bad, app launchers good)

[Bug 1797383] Re: Cannot open "Show Applications" with a touchscreen

2018-10-11 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
** Description changed:

  Test Case:
  On a laptop with a touchscreen, login and tap the "Show Applications" button
at the bottom of the dock to open the list of applications.

- Actual result
- The list of applications opens and closes immediately
+ Actual result
+ The list of applications opens and closes immediately because you actually
have to hold you finger down to keep it open and as soon as you release it
closes
+
+ Expected Result
+ The user tap the "Show applications" button in the dock and the list of
applications shows up. It's difficult to have to hold a function to keep it
open on a touch screen because you only have 2 hands and it keeps one busy just
to keep the thing open then you have to use the other one to select the action
you want to perform. note that sometimes the list of applications stays opened
but it is not clear which action keeps it open (Long hold maybe?)

didrocks | yes ;) I wonder what would happen if, while this is worked on, we
remove the udev rule to not regress some of our nvidia users for 18.10 release

halfline | didrocks: yea the udev rule makes less sense for you indeed

didrocks | right, so if we keep gdm / wayland and user sessions -> Xorg, that

[Bug 1797355] [NEW] Once logged in, GDM Shell process CPU usage spiking at 100%

2018-10-11 Thread Didier Roche
Public bug reported:

This happens on some nvidia card, with the nvidia blob driver
(fallbacked to Xorg for gdm).

1. Boot your laptop
2. Log into gdm
-> once your user session is loaded, gdm GNOME Shell process goes crazy, up to
100%, continously.

GNOME Shell (for user gdm) restarts in loops due to not be able to paint
(context lost). More info on the upstream bug:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/issues/429#note_344826.

#gnome-shell IRC logs:
   jadahl | so its the context-lost handling going crazy then

 didrocks | looks like so…

 didrocks | jadahl: FYI, I have a gdb shell opened right now, tell me if you
have time or if I can help for anything

   jadahl | didrocks: I suppose what we need is a wayt to tell if its a context
lost because of gdm switch away, or if its a context lost that should be
handled
   jadahl | can't say I know at hand how to make that distinction

 didrocks | makes sense (surprised though that it doesn't seem to hit everyone
fallbacking to Xorg for gdm). Is it something that should be discussed with
halfline?
halfline1 | check if its foreground vt i guess...

   jadahl | didrocks: only nvidia has the context lost thing

 didrocks | jadahl: Laney has a nvidia card as well, he checked that he's
fallback to Xorg as well but doesn't have that issue apparently, which is
puzzling…
halfline1 | i wouldnt be surprised if theres a driver bug involved

 didrocks | yeah, I think that I'm on the "unlucky card triggering this nvidia
driver bug" case :p

[Bug 1448778] Re: Evince fails to display some fonts (some font thing failed)

2018-10-11 Thread bitinerant
I have additional information. Within ~/.fonts I have a subfolder
containing some Windows fonts. It seems that if those files are not
OWNED by the user running Evince (even though they are group readable),
then Evince does not display the fonts at all.

I feel this is a bug. At the very least, Evince should display a
permissions error to the user rather than a document with a lot of
missing information. Better yet, it should display the text in another
font. Better yet, apparmor should be adjusted to allow it to read these
font files.

[Bug 1796550] Re: Keyboard brightness control keys (down/up) don't work

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/upower/upower/merge_requests/12/diffs?commit_id=0a9d9ab4949effb20e77aa52e7b4ee07e776fc0d

** Description changed:

- https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/issues/100
+ https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/upower/upower/issues/73

  ---

  On laptops with two separate (down,up) keys to control the backlit
  keyboard, both keys seem to do nothing. The OSD for the backlit keyboard
  is displayed but no progress bar and no actual effect to the backlight.
  Almost as if the shell only understands laptops with a single key for
  controlling the keyboard backlight...

  Bug verified in cosmic on:
    * Asus UX331UAL
    * Apple Macbook Pro 12,1
    * Apple Macbook Air

  All of them have these keys and they all fail in the same way. However
  it is not a kernel bug. The kernel interface
  (/sys/class/leds/*::kbd_backlight/*) works when I write to it directly.
  This seems to be a problem with Gnome Shell only.

Failure Rate: 100%

In some platforms, bt will be re-probed after s3. If bt is re-probed,
rfkill-idx will increase. And, 128 is the first invalid UTF-8

[Bug 1448778] Re: Evince fails to display some fonts (some font thing failed)

2018-10-11 Thread bitinerant
I have a number of PDF files which, when opened, display some text but
not others, and show dozens of "some font thing failed" lines in the
terminal. The PDFs appear fine in Firefox. I don't know what "texlive"
is, so I'm quite sure I'm not using that, but I do have some fonts in
~/.fonts

Thanks to the above comment, I tried:

sudo apt install apparmor-utils
sudo aa-complain evince

Now Evince displays the PDFs properly and does not show the "some font
thing failed" errors.
