[Bug 1797543] Re: Unable to update software - Button Restart & Update, restarts no updates applied

2018-10-15 Thread Tino Meinen
Thank you Robert Ancell and Steve Langasek.

Your patch fixed the issue.

I've updated gnome-software, gnome-software-common and gnome-software-
plugin-snap to version 3.30.2-0ubuntu4 (only those packages, I left
other available updates in the queue to be able to test the updated
version)

It now shows no updates available in the updates tab, and a tick mark with the
text Software is up to date in the main window.
(screenshot attached)

Thank you again for acting so quickly on this issue, I'm very impressed!

[Bug 1754864] Re: Flatpak related refs are not installed when using GNOME Software on Ubuntu 18.04

2018-10-15 Thread Robert Ancell
@AsciiWolf - if you want to propose this in 18.04 the best way is to do
a MR to the ubuntu-3-28 branch on
https://gitlab.gnome.org/Community/Ubuntu/gnome-software - that's where
we get the patches for the .deb.

A brief look at the changes seems like it should be fine. I'd drop the
test changes unless they break the build otherwise they'll make the
patch enormous.

[Bug 1797543] Re: Unable to update software - Button Restart & Update, restarts no updates applied

2018-10-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Tino, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-software into cosmic-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
software/3.30.2-0ubuntu4 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-cosmic to verification-done-cosmic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-cosmic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1798009] [NEW] Snap permissions shown in incorrect state when Polkit dialog cancelled

2018-10-15 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Cancelling a polkit dialog when changing Snap permissions leaves the toggles in
the incorrect state. The correct state is shown after restart.

[Test Case]
1. Open GNOME Software
2. Select an installed snap with permissions (e.g. Spotify)
3. Change a permission (e.g. Read system mount information and disk quotas)
4. Cancel the polkit dialog that pops up

Expected result:
The permission is shown in the initial state (off here)

Observed result:
The permission is show in the requested state (on here).

[Regression Potential]
TBD - fill out when solution found.

[Bug 1797543] Re: Gnome-software - unable to update software - Button Restart & Update, restarts no updates applied

2018-10-15 Thread Robert Ancell
** Changed in: gnome-software (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Committed

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ .deb package updates are shown in GNOME Software and the user is prompted to
"Restart & Update". They are not updated during the restart.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Have a system with updates available
+ 2. Open GNOME Software
+ 3. Go to Updates page
+
+ Expected result:
+ No updates are shown (they are shown in software-properties-gtk)
+
+ Observed result:
+ Updates are shown, and the user is prompted to "Restart & Update".
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The fix is to update the patch to work with architectural changes that
occurred in gnome-software 3.30. The additional code stops an update function
from being called and is unlikely to impact other changes. There could
potentially be other changes that have been missed (this seems like a low risk).
+
+ [Original description]
+
Ubuntu 18.10 beta (up to date as of 12-10-2018)
  Ubuntu software 3.30.2

  DESCRIPTION OF BEHAVIOUR
When updates are available, Ubuntu-Software shows updates are available in
the "Updates" tab.

One of the updates available shows "OS Updates"

The grey coloured heading right above the available updates, has
"Requires Restart" on the left and a green button "Restart & Update".

When the green button is clicked, a popup window appears immediately
showing "Restart, the system will restart automatically in 60 seconds"
counting down. The restart can be cancelled or activated.

When activated (either automatically or manually) the computer restarts
immediately and no software is being updated.

After logging in and starting up Ubuntu Software, the Updates tab checks
and then shows the same updates being available as before.

  ---
The button on the Updates tab should rather offer to update all available
software and only offer to restart the computer after the updates are completed.

** Summary changed:

- Gnome-software - unable to update software - Button Restart & Update,
restarts no updates applied

applied

[Bug 1797983] Re: My session restarted

2018-10-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please remove all your extensions and see if that fixes the problem:

b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions' b"['mediapla...@patapon.info',
'emacsmana...@localvoid.gmail.com', 'ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com', 'system-
moni...@paradoxxx.zero.gmail.com', 'tracker-search@cewee']"

Otherwise...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

The 1.0.9 SRU bug for bionic is here:

gnome-software

There is an SRU in progress for 3.28.1-0ubuntu4.18.04.4 that I don't want to
de-rail by uploading a new patch for this bug. Once that one is in
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/commit/057eea7cc03d647544b5819ff37951f7bfffb77e
should be added to this SRU bug.

Heh, indeed, "fonts that might be changed" never crossed my mind!

Absolutely agreed. I'd expect a fallback to a font that *is* available
and a notice in a status bar that fonts have been replaced due to errors.
Nothing that would make a user *click* on anything but that would clearly
explain the issue for a user curious why a document doesn't look right.

Thanks

[Bug 1719797] Re: Firmware update seemingly not working

2018-10-15 Thread Mario Limonciello
** Description changed:

+ The fix for this particular issue is tracked in SRU bug
+ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fwupd/+bug/1791999
+
+ Regression potential:
+ Fixes for this particular bug would have the risk to manifest in devices not
showing up in gnome-software, but this risk is very low.
+
+ Test case:
+ 1) Run a UEFI firmware update from Gnome software.
+ 2) Make sure that the update disappears from the listing after pressing the
update button.
+
+ Original bug:
+
  Ubuntu 17.10

On a dell latitude 5580, the firmware update seems to not work while it
  actually does.

  1. Gnome software reports there is a new firmware update.
  2. I click "update now"
  3. The update disappears for a few seconds, then reappears.
  4. When I reboot my laptop, the laptop goes into firmware update modus,
updates the firmware, and starts Ubuntu.

  What I expect:

After clicking "update now", Gnome software tells me my computer has to
restart the update. Either the update is listed and greyed out with a
"reboot required" message, or the update is not visible.

[Bug 1797707] Re: system friert ständig ein, 18.04.1

2018-10-15 Thread Eduardo dos Santos Barretto
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1797784] Re: fail to syn/connect google callander with loal calander

2018-10-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1780076] Re: 18.04 login screen is skewed/distorted (incorrect stride) when using hibmc_drm graphics

2018-10-15 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Bin, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gdm3 into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/3.28.3-0ubuntu18.04.3 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1795637] Re: No login screen when booting Cosmic due to plymouth racing with the rest of the boot process and not releasing DRM devices in time

2018-10-15 Thread Iain Lane
Almost anything which breaks the boot can have that symptom. I would
suggest not having a meta-bug otherwise it'll be reopened and re-closed
every time. Using that other one should be just fine.

tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a

Great, glad that we sorted it out. the "." is a bash syntax afaik and to
source shell script, it's working on script only and not to start
