[Bug 1745888] Re: Two instances of a program launch whenever you touch a favorites icon

2018-10-26 Thread PJSingh5000
Marco,

I tried the extension level patch at https://github.com/micheleg/dash-
to-dock/issues/128#issuecomment-432913072.

Here are my findings...

#1
It worked great for preventing two instances of am application from launching
when touching an icon on the dock.

#2
However, touching the App Grid Icon still does not work. (It seems like the App
Grid is unresponsive, but what is really happening is that the applications
overview appears briefly and suddenly disappears, as if you had tapped on the
App grid Icon twice).

Does the fix at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
shell/merge_requests/272 resolve item #2 above?

[Bug 1799851] Re: Software Boutique window suddenly shows Welcome window and looses all the apps I queued to install

2018-10-26 Thread Robert Pearson
Dear Matthias Klumpp,
The Software Boutique is in Menu->Administration->Software Boutique. In Ubuntu
MATE 18.10 it crashes!

Matin Wimpress.
I do not appreciate having the status of my bug report changed to "Invalid". I
may not be a Linux guru, but I have been developing programs for over 35 years
and a Mentor for 20 years. I can tell when a program crashes! "Fixing" a bug by
declaring all reports of it "Invalid" is not programming - it is bad
management! Try getting some ubuntu!

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In 12.04 I was able to safely remove USB-stick (make its LED off) and USB-HDD

[Bug 1800251] Re: Gimp 2.10.6 Snap not running in Ubuntu 16.04.5

2018-10-26 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
The way you installed gimp the first time (using the software center)
likely attempted to install the snap version, but may not have been
complete when you tried running it. Whatever the reason, since snaps are
distribution-agnostic and are not part of Ubuntu, this bug is invalid.
To report an issue with this particular snap, go to

[Bug 1800251] [NEW] Gimp 2.10.6 Snap not running in Ubuntu 16.04.5

2018-10-26 Thread Leonardo Vallone
Public bug reported:

I have installed Gimp 2.10.6 from the Ubuntu Software application after
a fresh Ubuntu 16.04.5 install and it was not running. Please see
attachment.

As a workaround I have installed Snapcraft and now Gimp is working (?).

I think that this is a weird behavior but I'm quite new tu Ubuntu so I
apologize if I'm wrong.

Any additional info that you may need please let me know, kind regards.

[Bug 1799787] Re: gnome-shell crashes when forcing a restart if applications are started on multiple workspaces

2018-10-26 Thread Paul White
@plurtu - can you confirm revised bug description?

** Description changed:

- These problems have been seen several times over the past week and are
- partly covered by other bug reports so please mark as a duplicate if
- appropriate but I'm creating this report as I feel that all issues are
- connected.
+ What should happen:

- The Dash to Dock extension at times:
+ With any number of applications running or workspaces enabled, gnome-
+ shell should restart gracefully by using 'Alt F2 > r and enter'.

-  is seen on the lock screen
-  changes size when hovering over a program launcher icon
-  loses it transparency
+ What does happen:

- The last time I saw an issue was immediately after running an update in
- a terminal window. As soon as the process finished I noticed the Dash to
- Dock had changed appearance. As I couldn't remember how I fixed it
- previously I attempted to restart gnome-shell by Alt F2 > r and enter.
+ With just one workspace enabled, several applications can be started and
+ gnome-shell can be restarted with 'Alt F2 > r and enter' without issue.

- The transparency issue couldn't be rectified by changing the extension's
- settings.
+ With multiple workspaces enabled, several applications can be started
+ and gnome-shell can be restarted with 'Alt F2 > r and enter' provided
+ all applications are started on the first workspace.

- gnome-shell didn't restart gracefully as it should and gave the
- appearance of a crash as only program windows were visible, the
- remaining parts of the screen were black. I was eventually taken back to
- the login screen so had to restart all of the previously running
- programs.
-
- This last issue of not being able to restart gnome-shell has been seen
- on a number of occasions over the last few days, in fact twice today and
- the last after a recent reboot with hardly any activity being carried
- out on the PC except to start a few programs using the Dock and running
- the update (which just found an update to Google Chrome).
+ With multiple workspaces enabled, if several applications are started on
+ different workspaces then gnome-shell will crash if restarted with 'Alt
+ F2 > r and enter'. My last application was started on workspace 4.

[Bug 1799787] Re: Dash to Dock behaves strangely then gnome-shell crashes when forcing a restart

2018-10-26 Thread Paul White
After extensive testing I can now document how to reproduce the crash
using four workspaces and four applications.

With just one workspace enabled, several applications can be started and
gnome-shell can be restarted with 'Alt F2 > r and enter' without issue.

With multiple workspaces enabled, several applications can be started
and gnome-shell can be restarted with 'Alt F2 > r and enter' provided
all applications are started on the first workspace.

With multiple workspaces enabled, if several applications are started on
different workspaces then gnome-shell will crash if restarted with 'Alt
F2 > r and enter'. My last application was started on workspace 4.

I'm removing any references to the dock from this bug report as it was
due to seeing issues which have been reported elsewhere that prompted me
to restart gnome-shell.

** No longer affects: gnome-shell-extension-dashtodock (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- Dash to Dock behaves strangely then gnome-shell crashes when forcing a restart
+ gnome-shell crashes when forcing a restart if applications are started on
multiple workspaces

[Bug 1799390] Re: shift_caps_switch doesn't work in Ubuntu 18.04

2018-10-26 Thread Yuriy Vidineev
Yes, I've set it via Gnome Tweak Tools - it just doesn't work.
I've found similar bug report for elementary OS:
https://github.com/elementary/switchboard-plug-keyboard/issues/75

Most interesting answer is:

This method is not available because Gnome components doesn't support it
(you can see all available methods here
https://github.com/GNOME/mutter/blob/master/src/core/keybindings.c,
using "g_str_equal (iso_next_group_option" phrase in the search).

For this reason, I think it's upstream issue.

Launchpad Details: #LPC Maxim Taranov - 2016-11-26 07:35:06 +

So looks like it's an upstream issue

GNOME Software might be the wrong package, the MATE Software Boutique is
a different app. A quick search suggests that it might be part of the
MATE welcome center, but a look into the package couldn't confirm that.

[Bug 1800179] [NEW] Search in recent files list only works with lowercase letters

2018-10-26 Thread Simon May
Public bug reported:

When clicking “Open” and typing to search the recently opened files, any
search involving uppercase letters fails to return any result, even if
files with uppercase letters in their file names have recently been
opened. Searching for the same file names, but using all-lowercase
letters, does yield results (see attached screenshot). So it seems that
gedit converts the recently used file names to lowercase before
comparing to the search term, which is incorrect.

[Bug 1800165] [NEW] GNOME shell RAM usage is more than double than on identical setup on other distro

2018-10-26 Thread Taddeo Manzi

I have installed GNOME on ArchLinux with pretty much the same setup as in

Nevertheless, on Arch, GNOME Shell RAM usage is 30/60 MB, on Ubuntu 150/160 MB.
In general Ubuntu is way slower and heavier than arch in pretty much all tasks.
I do not understand why that should hold.

[Bug 1799787] Re: Dash to Dock behaves strangely then gnome-shell crashes when forcing a restart

2018-10-26 Thread Paul White
Daniel, I would change the bug description but as I see someone else has
also marked this bug as affecting them I'll leave that to you. :)

I now think that the dash to dock bugs are those that have have already
been reported elsewhere and are nothing to do with the crash. I would
not have restarted gnome-shell if I had not seen issues with the dock.

My most recent tests are telling me that if I reboot and start a number
of applications, typically *four*, then gnome-shell will only crash if I
start each of them on *different* workspaces. If I start four
applications using the *same*a workspace then I can still restart gnome-
shell with 'Alt F2 > r and enter'.

I'm marking the gnome-shell element of this report as "Confirmed" as
another user has marked this bug report as affecting them. I don't think
that the dash to dock element of this report is now relevant.

[Bug 1798725] [NEW] Content "n\xff=" can crash libpcre when an application is matching the pattern \s*=

2018-10-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug:

Reported upstream at https://bugs.exim.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2330 -
libpcre3 can be made to crash when matching the pattern \s*= when the
context is n\xff=

Able to reproduce on current Bionic using the PoC attached (which is
copied directly from the upstream bug report) - in a fresh Bionic VM:

$ sudo apt install build-essential libgtk2.0-dev
$ cd PCRE_PoC
$ ./compilePoC.sh
$ ./PoC
Content:
---
n=
---
Pattern:
---
\s*=
-
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Haven't yet tested the second PoC via an external disk autorun.inf and
gvfs-udisks2-volume-monitor.

Also haven't tested in Cosmic / older releases

[Bug 1800101] Re: gnome-shell uses 100% CPU

2018-10-26 Thread René Schultz Madsen
It does not end by it self, tried to let it run for 48 hours, but still at
100%.
I have to restart to get it to normal.

I'll do that next time it hugs the CPU. Normally it does so after 5-10
days of continuers running.
