[Bug 1802610] [NEW] FIle View Windows Don't Snap To Screen Sides On Second Monitor

2018-11-09 Thread jimlovell777
Public bug reported:

When I have a folder open and try to snap the window to the sides of my
second monitor nothing happens. Bringing the window to the top of the
screen will make it go full screen as expected. Snapping works perfectly
on my primary monitor (left, top, right). Other applications like
terminal, gedit, and Firefox snap correctly on my second monitor.

[Bug 1799994] Re: Xorg loads, no display on nvidia 390.77-0ubuntu0.18.04.1

2018-11-09 Thread Chris McDonough
For the record, I have a Lenovo P50 running Ubuntu MATE (which uses
lightdm), also in am Ultradock. It is running in "Discrete" (NVIDIA)
mode using nvidia-396 from the graphics-driver ppa, and had been working
well since at least -34.

When I upgraded to -38 (from -36), the system comes up to the greeter
screen in a low resolution, and though it works, when I log in, the low
resolution remains. When I boot to -36 again, same problem, but if I
boot to -34, strangely, it works. When I compare the xorg.log between a
"good" boot (in -34) and a "bad" boot (in -38), I can see that in the
"bad" boot, it's just not finding any nvidia drivers, while in the
"good" boot it is.

I've been booting to -34 as a workaround, but I suspect this is the same
problem as is described by the OP, and if there's anything I can do to
help, please let me know.

[Bug 1729028] Re: gnome-shell crashes when monitor sleeps or is turned off

2018-11-09 Thread Zoltan Marcsek
Locking and sleeping is very buggy for me on a fresh 18.04. It rarely
works, other times gnome restarts, and I get in without a login prompt
(HUGE security issue), sometimes I can't log in after resume, or I can,
but my apps get closed (probably I get fully logged out). Gnome shell
also restart when I try to lock (with super+L), and the computer doesn't
get locked. Interestingly these bugs were not present on my previous
18.04 install on the very same laptop, and I didn't change a thing (same
installer, same programs The only difference is my SSD, but
I cannot find any errors on it).

The patch to resolve this bug was just accepted to upstream gnome-shell

Might it be possible to back-port this patch to GNOME Shell 3.28 for

[Bug 1802313] Re: Update gnome-control-center to 3.30.2

2018-11-09 Thread Iain Lane
Uploaded, thanks!

If you want to SRU this then the added patches

 debian/patches/Debian-s-adduser-doesn-t-allow-uppercase-letters-by-defau.patch
| 23 +++
 debian/patches/region-Autodisconnect-IBusBus-connected-handler.patch
| 29 +

will need SRU bugs or removing, since they don't come from upstream

 debian/patches/08_lowercase_user_names.patch
| 23 ---

this patch removal will need to be justified too. (Or the adduer related
changes dropped from the SRU).

[Bug 1802574] [NEW] laptop screen never comes on after undock / sleep / open of laptop

2018-11-09 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

I use a ThinkPad dock with two monitors plugged into it. I have a udev
job configured to automatically put my laptop to sleep when I undock it.

So, I'm working on my laptop in the dock. I undock it and drop it into
my backpack. All by itself, it goes to sleep. A few minutes later, I
open the laptop and it wakes up. I know it's up because the power light
and LED on the lid both go to solid. But the laptop screen never comes
on.

I've undocked twice since upgrading to 18.10. This has happened both
times. It's a regression from 18.04.1.

Thank you for your bug report. What "sound theme selector" are you
talking about? Is that the "sound effect" list? That includes file names
and not only theme. But yeah, there are some issues in there, unsure if
Yaru should be listed but at least selecting default should go back to
the correct soundfile

[Bug 1797782] Re: evince immediately seg faults

2018-11-09 Thread angus73
I would point out that the reporter states (in the bug description)
"Launching evince from the command line without specifying a file also
crashes".

This means that the problem is not related to any pdf file, so asking
for an upload is perfectly unuseful. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

As I experience the same bug (evince crash with segfault, even if I
don't open any file), I can provide more information if something could
help to solve it.

Invoking evince from the command line suddenly crashes, but for example

evince --version
evince --help

both work.

Also please tell me if I better open a new bug.

Running evince 3.28.4 on Ubuntu 18.04

[Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power

2018-11-09 Thread Fernando Jascovich
@Alberto: Is there any chance that this work-around works without gdm3?
I'm using ubuntu-server 18.04 and this my laptop configuration:
➜ ~ inxi -G
Graphics: Card-1: Intel HD Graphics 5500
   Card-2: NVIDIA GK208M [GeForce 920M]
Display Server: X.Org 1.19.6 driver: intel Resolution:
1366x768@60.06hz
OpenGL: renderer: Mesa DRI Intel HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2)
version: 4.5 Mesa 18.0.5

I followed the steps and installed required packages as follows:
➜ ~ sudo apt install nvidia-driver-390/bionic-updates
ubuntu-drivers-common/bionic-proposed nvidia-prime/bionic-proposed
nvidia-settings/bionic-updates libnvidia-gl-390/bionic-updates
libnvidia-compute-390/bionic-updates libnvidia-decode-390/bionic-updates
libnvidia-encode-390/bionic-updates libnvidia-ifr1-390/bionic-updates
libnvidia-fbc1-390/bionic-updates

Then I executed "sudo prime-select nvidia".
But after rebooting, I have no openGl support and this error is present at
Xorg's logs:
VGA arbiter: cannot open kernel arbiter, no multi-card support
Nvidia kernel modules are loaded and Xorg seems to register nvidia driver at
init.

If I try to run glxgears for example, I get the following message:
glxinfo Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual

And using "sudo prime-select intel" also leaves me without GL. I think
this is something related to gpu-manager, because I am not using any
display manager, just running xorg from startx.

[Bug 1790100] Re: unable to write ~ and ^ chars in the terminal

2018-11-09 Thread Matthieu Baerts
@Egmont: thank you for your input. I just added "gnome-terminal" package
in Ubuntu. I hope it is alright for you.

Note that I no longer have this issue on my side.

@giannione: do you have this bug with Wayland too?
I think you can send a few useful info by using a command like "ubuntu-bug -u
1790100" (I don't remember if you need do add "-p gnome-terminal").

2018-11-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.
