[Bug 1790010] Re: Cursor reverts to default size and theme after login, when hovering over certain parts of the UI

2018-11-20 Thread Luca De Luigi
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1700085 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1700085

I believe it's incorrect to mark this bug as a duplicate of bug #1700085.
In fact, in bug #1700085, the user puts a lot of effort to get hidpi scaling
and, even if he succeds in that, he is not able to make the cursor scale as
well. So, the cursor doesn't scale at all.

Concerning this bug (which affects me literally in the same way), gnome is
scaling everything automatically, no action is needed and everything looks
beautiful out of the box. The only (small) problem is that, immediately after
login, if you move the cursor over the top or the left bars, its size go back
to the default and it becomes very small. So, while the cursor is on the
desktop the size is scaled properly, as soon as you move on the bars, it goes
back to the default size.
As soon as you click on something that triggers the cursor to switch to the
"wait circle" (for instance, Firefox or any other application), some magic
happens and the cursor size is scaled properly even on the top and left bars.

[Bug 1804251] Re: Switching to console and back crashes session

2018-11-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1804206] [NEW] lock screen disabled by an application

2018-11-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When you lock the screen by mouse click on the 'lock icon' you can experience
the pop up of the message:
"No se pudo bloquear
Una aplicación impidió el bloqueo"
=> To lock wasn't possible
An application disabled the blockage

On the photo attached you see this situation.

To reproduce this phenomenon is complicate, it depends on the number of windows
and the position of the left window on the screen area. And perhaps the focus
of the first window.
In this case these two windows are virt - viewer applications.
With windows of the Firefox it wasn't possible to produce the situation.

Please try removing them all, at least briefly, and tell us if that

[Bug 1796614] Re: [nouveau] Ubuntu 18.10 boots to a blank screen with a blinking cursor

2018-11-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The same workaround seems to be working for bug 1798790. Although that
is about the proprietary Nvidia driver and this one is about nouveau
(which also means Jeffery seems to be commenting on the wrong bug). Not
sure if we can or should merge the two bugs.

[Bug 1796606] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in st_widget_get_theme_node → ffi_call_unix64 → ffi_call → gjs_invoke_c_function → function_call

2018-11-20 Thread Russell Neches
When I first started getting these crashes, they were triggered by
attaching an external monitor, but that problem seems to have been
fixed. Now, I am getting crashes when I put my laptop to sleep and then
wake it up. It also destroys screen and tmux sessions somehow, so these
crashes have about the same effect on the user as a kernel panic. Yet
another way that systemd is broken, I guess?

There was a [similar
bug](https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=224570) reported on Arch
Linux, where the redshift extension was blamed as the culprit (though no
explanation was given about his this was determined or what the
mechanism might be.

I'm going to try disabling Night Mode.

[Bug 1796499] Re: Keyboard calculator button not working

2018-11-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
** Description changed:

- The calculator app doesn't open when the calculator button on the
- keyboard is pressed. I'm using a Logitech K520 keyboard. I found this:
- https://askubuntu.com/questions/1031673/cannot-open-calculator-app-from-
- keyboard-calculator-button An out-of-the-box solution would be nice
- though.
+ * Impact
+ The calculator keybinding doesn't work with the gnome-calculator snap

- ProblemType: Bug
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04
- Package: gnome-calculator (not installed)
- ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-36.39-generic 4.15.18
- Uname: Linux 4.15.0-36-generic x86_64
- NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia
- ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.4
- Architecture: amd64
- CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME
- Date: Sat Oct  6 18:17:47 2018
- InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-09-29 (7 days ago)
- InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64
(20180725)
- SourcePackage: gnome-calculator
- UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)
+ * Test case
+ - go to gnome-control-center, keyboard and configure a keybinding to start
the calculator (or use the default one which is the calculator key if you have
a keyboard including one of those)
+ - install gnome-calculator as a snap and remove the deb (should be the case
on the default installation)
+ - press the configured key
+
+ -> the calculator should start
+
+ * Regression potential
+ The code allows trying 2 .desktop name, upstream renamed their in the 3.23
which was in zesty, they still include the fallback but Ubuntu hasn't been
needed it since zesty, the patch changes to know about the current .deb name
and about the snap one. If users had pinned an years old version of the
calculator then their keybinding is going to stop working

** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Fix Committed

[Bug 1792878] Re: gvfs lockup due to max number of connections

2018-11-20 Thread Ueli Leutwyler
Dear community
In the version gvfs 1.36.1-0ubuntu1.2 this bug has been fixed.

Reproduce testing:
1. connect to webdav repository in filebrowser (e.g. nemo) like that:
davs://your-url.com/repo

2. select two files in file explore (e.g. odt - writer)

3. right mouse click -> open.

in previous version gvfs would lock. in 1.36.1-0ubuntu1.2 both file will
be opened (e.g. writer)

[Bug 1803527] Re: ubuntu 18.10 fails to restore from suspend if no password

2018-11-20 Thread Fusion
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  my system:
  ubuntu 18.10
  4k monitor with 1 scale and 1.5 font scale
  nvidia 410 and 390 drivers are checked

  when happened:
  lock screen or suspend. return after that.
  if I have user password prompt enabled: everything ok
  if I haven't user password prompt enabled, system started with gnome crashed

  I expect:
  ubuntu to has the same behaviour either I have a password either not.

  What happened:
  in case of no password (I should just 'swipe up' or press 'space' and
everything should be ready.. but) most of the times I can not return to desktop.
  - freezes on a screen with panels but no desktop
  - freezes on a purple screen that no command is working (as ctrl+alt+t)
  - freezes on a useless gnome panels (dash and topbar) mode

  solution chosen:
  I press ctrl+alt+F1 to change environment, I enter my password... BUT again
the gnome is too slow, app icon is always on and everything is acting weird
(some apps' icon that I have opened on the other session is liked pined on dash
without have the option to unpin it - like I see it but it is not pinned)
  So, I just save what I can through the new session and just restart the pc
(in new session is available - in the previous is only suspend available)

  frequency: about 80% of the times. If lock-screen showed up normally
  (and I have to press space to unlock) everything works like a charm
  afterwards. If not.. it will be the mess I described above

  hope it helps

[Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power

2018-11-20 Thread Krzysztof Janowicz
@Alberto: Thanks a lot for your help! There is no such setting in the
BIOS of the Thinkpad X1 Extreme. I can either select discrete only or
hybrid cards. I was finally able to get prime-select to switch to intel
but the rate remains at like 20W which is essentially the same as using
the nvidia card. I am also not able to connect to an external screen via
the on-board HDMI port which is another issue I never had to deal with
in a Thinkpad (usb-c to HDMI adapter does not work as well).

mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from

tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)

[Bug 1796614] Re: [nouveau] Ubuntu 18.10 boots to a blank screen with a blinking cursor

2018-11-20 Thread Jeffery
I also have this problem.

Differences for me:

I have a RTX 2080 and installed Nvidia's 410.78 driver manually.

Whenever I boot, I too get the black screen with a blinking cursor. I
also have the ctrl+alt+F3, login and run startx

This brings me to the gnome desktop instead of the traditional Ubuntu
desktop.

I am not really sure how to fix this issue.

Don't know if it the same as

experiencing the same bug, but in my case small files copy fine and
large files fail with the invalid argument error all in Nautilus. The
bug mentioned states that files copy in Nautilus. It is unclear what
size of file was used by the reporter in that bug report.

eog caused the current user logout.

system info: Ubuntu 18.04

etc.

[Bug 1804008] Re: Gnome Shell extensions crash

2018-11-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
We require that you disable gnome-shell extensions just briefly so that
you have time to figure out which extension (if any) is triggering the
crash. That may not be the same extension as is shown in the log.

If you don't have time or interest to do this testing then the bug will
close after 60 days of inactivity.

Hi. Thanks for your answer.

Is there some other steps i can take to help debug? It's very hard for me
to disable all extensions since i really depend on some of them to make my
desktop at least usable.

Thanks again. Regards.

[Bug 1804166] [NEW] Asks for "unnamed" key instead of real name

2018-11-20 Thread Philippe Vaucher
Public bug reported:

Hello,

Whenever I try to ssh into a server for the first time, a GUI popup asks
for the key password:

"An application wants access to the private key "Unnamed", but it is
locked:"

I can then enter my password, but I have to guess which key it is:

```
-rw---  1 philippe philippe 1.7K Jan 27  2015 id_rsa
-rw-rw-r--  1 philippe philippe   10 Jan 27  2015 id_rsa.keystore
-rw-r--r--  1 philippe philippe  407 Jan 27  2015 id_rsa.pub
-rw---  1 philippe philippe 228K Nov 14 14:01 known_hosts
-rw---  1 philippe philippe 228K Nov  9 16:46 known_hosts.old
-rw---  1 philippe philippe 1.8K Jan 27  2015 support
-rw---  1 philippe philippe  381 Jan 27  2015 support.pub
-rw---  1 philippe philippe 1.8K Jan 27  2015 sysadmin
-rw---  1 philippe philippe  381 Jan 27  2015 sysadmin.pub
```

I could be the "support" or the "sysadmin" key, but because the dialog
only diplay "Unnamed" I have to remember which server uses which. I
think it should display "sysadmin" or "support" instead of "Unnamed".

```
philippe@pv-desktop:~$ gnome-keyring version
I tried using `seahorse` to see if there was a way to edit this
"Unnamed" information, but there is not.
