[Bug 1798790] Re: Ubuntu login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver (and setting WaylandEnable=false fixes it)
Wayland is not fully functional or compatible with Ubuntu 18.10 yet. So why use wayland in a full new distribution, and cause problems? It wasted 8 hours of my time to find the solution. Just because of 1 line in a gdm3 conf file. 1 wrong line in a config line, and Ubuntu fails. Ubuntu needs essential conf and system protection, so that 1 little change cannot derail the entire OS, or deleting or installing cannot remove essential files necessary to run the OS. After this many years Ubuntu is still incredibly easy to break. Essential, necessary configs and system files that run the basic OS should be read only! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1798790 Title: Ubuntu login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver (and setting WaylandEnable=false fixes it) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1798790/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen
I long have given up on this. However here are two more observations. Confirming Simon P.'s (simpre) observation that applications are not docked. Another issue: when clicking on the activities button once, it does not show the app overview. It requires a second click. This is also true with any activation (like Meta-L to lock the machine). Another anecdote: Yesterday I did some programming. I locked the machine and put it to sleep (another function that used to work reliably and now is completely broken) but when I came back, it was up and running. The IDE was visible. I could position the cursor and enter text. The text was not echoed on the screen but after unlocking the text was there. If this was crucial code anyone could render it unusable or add to it. @Andrea Azzarone: This is a severe security issue to me and many others. I hope the proposed fix (as noted above) is really fixing this issue and comes out soon. It's a shame that something like this passes rollout (although I have some understanding for that) but even more so the initial ignorance and reluctance to trust hundreds of users that there is an issue that needs quick fixing (which I have no understanding for whatsoever). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1769383 Title: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1769383/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

For example: - CTRL+ALT+LEFT - CTRL+ALT+RIGHT - PrtSc No mather what action I put these combinations to, the action is not run when the combination is pressed. # Workaround: 1) You have to disable some stuff with console magic like this: $ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-to-workspace-left "[]" $ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-to-workspace-right "[]" $ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys screenshot '' 2) Now you can finally change the shortcuts in "Keyboard Shortcuts" settings. # The final thoughts I understand there is some high-level technology why some shortcuts are hard-wired to Ubuntu with "gsettings". [Bug 1809936] [NEW] Installing GNOME shell extensions
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Installing GNOME shell extensions is quite painfull for two reasons: # 1) https://extensions.gnome.org is not working The original and time-proven method of installing GNOME shell extensions is not working in Ubuntu 18.04. Even if I install the Firefox (or Chromium) GNOME extension, webpage says: "We cannot detect a running copy of GNOME on this system, so some parts of the interface may be disabled." # 2) "Ubuntu way" Ubuntu integrated the GNOME extensions into the "Ubuntu Software" application. But there is no posibility to sort the extensions by popularity or number of downloads. There is even no way to filter the extensions with basic fulltext. So the "Ubuntu way" is really pain to work with. # What you expected to happen The best would be if the https://extensions.gnome.org/ would work in Ubuntu by default. # Software details I have fresh installed Ubuntu 18.04.
