[Bug 1816634] Re: GNOME Shell consistently ignores mouse clicks in a particular app window
Steve, This sounds like a problem that should be reported to the Gnome developers. However before doing that, are you able to test if the problem exists in Ubuntu 18.10 or 19.04? http://releases.ubuntu.com/18.10/ http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816634 Title: GNOME Shell consistently ignores mouse clicks in a particular app window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1816634/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1814839] Re: "Sloppy" or "Focus on Hover" window focus is slow to respond, some keystrokes go to the wrong (old) window
** Description changed: + https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/469 + + --- + Ubuntu 18.04. Gnome X11 session. When window focus policy is set to follow the mouse, then if the mouse is moved into a new window and keystrokes typed immediately afterwards, the keystrokes go to the old window (invariably causing application errors). This is extremely annoying for rapid-fire developers, who for example run vim in one window to edit a script and bash in another to test the script; the sequence 1) save changes in vim; 2) move mouse to the bash window; 3) type the command to run the script results in the shell command (or part of it) being received by vim in the old window (with occasionally-entertaining effects). It seems like mouse-movement events are not kept in-order with respect to keyboard events. I can see the mouse pointer move to the new window before I type on the keyboard, so I know the mouse-move events have been received before the keystrokes. Speculations: This might be a window-manager bug: Although the mouse cursor has moved before I type, the window borders may not yet have changed to indicate a changed focus (not certain because the sequence is so quick). Therefore the window manager might be (erroneously) continuing to pass keystrokes to the "current" (i.e. old) window after the mouse moves into the new window. I'm assuming here that the window manager is able to receive mouse-move and keyboard events in a single stream, or timestamped, or otherwise marked so they can be processed in the order they originally occurred. Or maybe Xorg does not keep them in order or doesn't allow the window- manager to know their relative order. Or maybe keystrokes are going directly to the old window without filtering for the current mouse position (if this is the case, then IMO xorg should be told to stop delivering keystrokes if the mouse is outside a specified region until the window-manager tells it to resume delivery; or some similar way to allow the focus-change to occur first). STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 1. Run gnome-tweaks, set Windows->Window Focus to "Sloppy" 2. Open two vertically-adjacent gnome-terminal windows 3. Put cursor in the top window. Wait 2 seconds. 4. Move mouse (with one hand) rapidly into the other window, then (immediately) type a character into the other window (with the other hand) ACTUAL RESULTS: The keystroke appears in the old window EXPECTED RESULTS: Keystroke appears in the new window (i.e. the keystroke is not processed at all until the window manager completes the focus change). In other words, "typeahead" should encompass both keystrokes and mouse movements. ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Triaged ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1814839 Title: "Sloppy" or "Focus on Hover" window focus is slow to respond, some keystrokes go to the wrong (old) window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1814839/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1814125] Re: [nvidia] gnome-shell eats 100% cpu when seconds display is on and screen is locked
OK. Since the problem seems to be in the Nvidia-415 driver, and that driver is not part of Ubuntu then this bug is not a valid Ubuntu bug right now. Sorry. You can potentially make this a valid Ubuntu bug if you install (downgrade) to a supported version of the Nvidia driver like version 390. 1. Uninstall the nvidia driver version 415. 2. sudo apt install nvidia-driver-390 Then if the bug still occurs in a supported version of the driver we can reopen this bug. ** Package changed: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: Incomplete => Invalid ** Summary changed: - [nvidia] gnome-shell eats 100% cpu when seconds display is on and screen is locked + [nvidia-415] gnome-shell eats 100% cpu when seconds display is on and screen is locked -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1814125 Title: [nvidia-415] gnome-shell eats 100% cpu when seconds display is on and screen is locked To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1814125/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1816634] [NEW] GNOME Shell consistently ignores mouse clicks in a particular app window
Public bug reported: This is similar in some ways to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1181666 but affects only the mouse, not the keyboard, and is consistent almost all (99%+) of the time. This is happening for Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS (bionic) in the default desktop environment (Ubuntu). It also happens for the GNOME and GNOME Classic desktop environments. The version of gnome- shell is 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.4. Our program is a blend of C# winforms (Mono) with embedded web browser windows using Geckofx45 (mozilla version 45). Editing windows in the program use HTML to display formatting and typescript/javascript code to assist with popup dialogs and other editing help. Inside these editing windows, left mouse clicks are essentially ignored. Keyboarding still works fine as far as I can tell. Clicking on the gear button inside the editing window fails to bring up the Styles dialog more than 95% of the time. When the dialog does display, it is always (100%) nonfunctional as the first click in it causes it to close immediately. Tracing the internal behavior of the code, it appears that clicking the first time inside the editing (browser) window causes a series of WM_FOCUS messages to be sent and the javascript to hook up a left mouse click handler to a gear button displayed in the lower left corner of the editing window. This is the expected behavior, and the same as on other window managers. But then, on GNOME Shell only, a series of WM_KILLFOCUS messages are sent immediately. This does not happen for other window managers. (The main window receives a WM_ACTIVATE message with the argument to make it deactivate.) Any other left mouse clicks inside that window are ignored >95% of the time, probably only when double clicking quickly enough to occur before those messages to lose focus/deactivate are handled. (Right mouse clicks are handled at a higher level and appear to function normally.) The program in question is called Bloom. The source code is available at https://github.com/BloomBooks/BloomDesktop and prebuilt debian/ubuntu packages are available at http://packages.sil.org/ubuntu/ as bloom- desktop or bloom-desktop-beta. After spending a few days looking at this problem, I've reluctantly come to the conclusion that it must be a GNOME Shell bug that I can't work around in our code. It's working fine in Microsoft Windows and all the other Linux window managers that I've tested (Unity, Cinnamon, KDE Plasma, MATE, XFCE, and LXDE). ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "picture showing Editing window in Bloom. ok. Thank you for hearing us. I'll be glad to help making test if needed. I'm not sure to understand what you wrote between bracket as some of us here (including me) have fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04 or 18.10 . You mean that it will be solved with 19.04? That's a good news but the LTS is 18.04 so it would be nice to have this corrected for the next 18.04.3... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767817 Title: Full text search does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1767817/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1815941] Re: Show the source field in overview for snaps and debs
** Description changed: Upstream bug: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/issues/576 Currently, in the search view results, there is no way to tell whether an app is a snap or deb without opening the detailed view for the app. This can be especially helpful, when the same app is found in multiple sources. [Bug 1759526] [NEW] Enabling 'Auto-hide the Dock' moves the clock and desktop icons
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The clock and desktop icons are moved 1 slot to the left when enabling Auto-hide the Dock. Reproduce: - Open the Settings > Dock - Enable Auto-hide the Dock If disabling Auto-hide, the clock and desktop icons are moved in the opposite direction (to the right). In certain situations this can make the desktop icons go off screen. Reproduce: - Open the Settings > Dock - Enable Auto-hide the Dock - Place a icon on the right edge of the screen - Disable Auto-hide the Dock Expected behavior: The clock should never move. Desktop icons that are overlapped by the launcher can move when disabling auto-hide, if this exception is not feasible the icons should never move automatically. ** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bionic -- Enabling 'Auto-hide the Dock' moves the clock and desktop icons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1759526 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1724630] [NEW] gnome-shell-extension-dashtodock: Dock accessible from lock screen
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The dock sometimes appears on the lock screen, and it is possible to start a program from the lock screen without logging in when this happens, although it is not possible to interact with it once it has started. I haven't reported it as a security vulnerability because it would take an exception set of circumstances for that to be the case, but there is the potential for a security issue when you can start a program without logging in. In the attached photo the icons are ghosted as well. I haven't actually seen this behaviour since the photo was taken, so I assume a subsequent update has fixed whatever was causing that. Clearly I have used a photo because you can't take a screen grab, although I am curious as to whether it would be possible to have a screen grab app on the dock and use that to capture directly from the screen! [Bug 1816539] [NEW] Searching by file type doesn't work
Public bug reported: When I click on searching in nautilus a down arrow appears on the right (next to the input field). If I click on this arrow, a pop up menu appears with "When" and "What" titles.
