[Bug 1830936] Re: Wayland freeze 18.04 using VLC
Also... Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Package changed: wayland (Ubuntu) => gnome-shell (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Tags added: bionic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1830936 Title: Wayland freeze 18.04 using VLC To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1830936/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1830792] Re: Rotated display is overscaled and overdrawn
Thanks for all that. It appears the problematic monitor is: VGA-1 connected 1200x1920+0+0 left (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 519mm x 324mm 1920x1200 59.95*+ My first suspicion is that "VGA" is the first problem there. The overdrawing of letters/pixels suggests a signal or mode problem that you would probably only encounter with an analog connection like VGA. So this could be a hardware/cable problem, or even a kernel driver problem. Not sure. ** Summary changed: - Ubuntu display is corrupted, never recovers + Rotated display is overscaled and overdrawn ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New ** Also affects: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1830792 Title: [i915] Rotated display is overscaled and overdrawn To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1830792/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1830792] Re: Rotated display is overscaled and overdrawn
I am seeing a lot of crashes in the i915 kernel driver in your kernel log like: May 28 15:54:36 nix-us2ua34705wc kernel: Call Trace: May 28 15:54:36 nix-us2ua34705wc kernel: intel_atomic_commit+0x2b8/0x2f0 [i915] May 28 15:54:36 nix-us2ua34705wc kernel: drm_atomic_commit+0x4a/0x50 [drm] May 28 15:54:36 nix-us2ua34705wc kernel: drm_mode_atomic_ioctl+0x8e9/0xa00 [drm] This suggests it might be a kernel bug. But I also know the atomic API is only used by the Xorg modesetting driver. You might be able to avoid the problem then by logging into "Ubuntu on Wayland". Does that work? ** Also affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - Rotated display is overscaled and overdrawn + [i915] Rotated display is overscaled and overdrawn ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1830792 Title: [i915] Rotated display is overscaled and overdrawn To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1830792/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1774188] Re: Unlocking the screen takes 5 seconds in Xorg sessions (not so much in Wayland sessions)
I have this same problem on 18.04. It's very noticeable that when my network has no DNS working, screen unlock takes a long time - as much as a minute or two. I notice this because I often manually configure my network to do DNS lookups over an SSH tunnel. If I just close the lid of my laptop it locks and then goes to sleep, and of course when I open it again the SSH session is down & I have no DNS. In this state, the screen unlock is really slow. Public bug reported: When I select "show hidden files" in the Nautilus GUI menu almost all of my Ubuntu desktop icons disappear. One additional information concerning the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl + H": "Ctrl + H" to show hidden files seems to have been disabled in Ubuntu 19.04 / Nautilus 3.32.0-stable. When I press "ctrl + H" now, all desktop icons disappear for a moment, then reappear without a change. This does not switch the nautilus "show hidden files" state. It seems to be a bug in nautilus. [Bug 1830673] Re: [nvidia] startup bug
Thanks! It appears your laptop only has an Nvidia GPU. Although an Intel GPU should be present, it's not detected. Most likely disabled in the BIOS. That should be OK... Also your Xorg log is reporting that the Nvidia driver has successfully detected the internal display, which is 1920x1080 and is an LCD panel manufactured by Chimei. Your 'prewboot2.txt' seems to suggest maybe the remaining problem is just that Ubuntu doesn't know how to properly control the display backlight. Please run this command: find /sys/class/backlight/ > backlights.txt and send us the file 'backlights.txt'. ** Package changed: gdm3 (Ubuntu) => nvidia-graphics-drivers-418 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-418 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1830673 Title: [nvidia] startup bug To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-418/+bug/1830673/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
