[Bug 1830936] Re: Wayland freeze 18.04 using VLC

2019-05-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Also...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1830792] Re: Rotated display is overscaled and overdrawn

2019-05-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for all that. It appears the problematic monitor is:

VGA-1 connected 1200x1920+0+0 left (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
519mm x 324mm
   1920x1200 59.95*+

My first suspicion is that "VGA" is the first problem there. The
overdrawing of letters/pixels suggests a signal or mode problem that you
would probably only encounter with an analog connection like VGA. So
this could be a hardware/cable problem, or even a kernel driver problem.
Not sure.

[Bug 1830792] Re: Rotated display is overscaled and overdrawn

2019-05-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I am seeing a lot of crashes in the i915 kernel driver in your kernel
log like:

May 28 15:54:36 nix-us2ua34705wc kernel: Call Trace:
May 28 15:54:36 nix-us2ua34705wc kernel: intel_atomic_commit+0x2b8/0x2f0 [i915]
May 28 15:54:36 nix-us2ua34705wc kernel: drm_atomic_commit+0x4a/0x50 [drm]
May 28 15:54:36 nix-us2ua34705wc kernel: drm_mode_atomic_ioctl+0x8e9/0xa00
[drm]

This suggests it might be a kernel bug.

But I also know the atomic API is only used by the Xorg modesetting
driver. You might be able to avoid the problem then by logging into
"Ubuntu on Wayland". Does that work?

[Bug 1830896] [NEW] Ubuntu 19.04 extensions are not working

2019-05-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In Ubuntu 19.04 the "No Title Bar" and the "Show Desktop Button" extensions are
not working.
The "Show Desktop Button" doesn't work at all, the "No Title Bar" show the
title and the window-buttons in the top-bar, but not removing the windows'
title bar.
After Ubuntu switched to Gnome I use this fetures, and worked fine on 18.04
version. Especially the "No Title Bar" extension is important to me, because
the Gnome's top-bar and the window's title-bar together occupy to much space,
and this is for me is uncomfortable, especially on laptop.
So please fix it!

Thanks, Lajos

[Bug 1774188] Re: Unlocking the screen takes 5 seconds in Xorg sessions (not so much in Wayland sessions)

2019-05-29 Thread Tom Cook
I have this same problem on 18.04. It's very noticeable that when my
network has no DNS working, screen unlock takes a long time - as much as
a minute or two.

I notice this because I often manually configure my network to do DNS
lookups over an SSH tunnel. If I just close the lid of my laptop it
locks and then goes to sleep, and of course when I open it again the SSH
session is down & I have no DNS. In this state, the screen unlock is
really slow. If I shut the lid not in this state, screen unlock is
quick as normal.

I use an Xorg session.

[Bug 1823857] Re: Backport to bionic a patch for improved fractional scaling

2019-05-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
** Description changed:

+ * Impact
+ In some cases after a configuration chang ethe "apply" button is not displayed
+
+ * Test case
+ On a multimonitor setup, go to settings -> display and change the monitors
layout and zoom factor, following a change a "apply" button should be displayed
+
+ * Regression potential
+ The change is in the monitor configurations logic, just make sure that
changing resolution/layouts work correctly and is restored are a logout/login
cycle
+
+ --
+
I have been debugging why I do not get "Apply" button in Displays view
when my primary monitor is on the left of the external monitor, but it
appears when it is on the right. I traced the problem down to this issue
  and patch:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/412
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/merge_requests/346

Reading this issue tracker I see that some issues people are reporting
my be connected to this problem. I would suggest, if possible, that this
patch is backported to Bionic and its version of gnome-control-center.

[Bug 1830902] [NEW] (Most) Ubuntu desktop icons disappear when selecting "show hidden files" in Nautilus

2019-05-29 Thread Michael Satke
Public bug reported:

When I select "show hidden files" in the Nautilus GUI menu almost all of
my Ubuntu desktop icons disappear. My home folder icon and my trash can
icon (and - oddly - a single .mp3 and a single .zip file - ??) stay
visible on the desktop.

After unchecking the "show hidden files" checkbox, all icons reappear
again.

One additional information concerning the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl + H":
"Ctrl + H" to show hidden files seems to have been disabled in Ubuntu
19.04 / Nautilus 3.32.0-stable. When I press "ctrl + H" now, all desktop
icons disappear for a moment, then reappear without a change. This does
not switch the nautilus "show hidden files" state.

It seems to be a bug in nautilus. Kind regards, Michael

@Corrado, the bug you submitted and which got marked duplicate from this
one was a segfault error though, your "move to a different folder is not
working" seems a different error and worth another report. Also please
describe what you do exactly, if this happens on any file/folder and
what filesystem you are using

[Bug 1830673] Re: [nvidia] startup bug

2019-05-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks!

It appears your laptop only has an Nvidia GPU. Although an Intel GPU
should be present, it's not detected. Most likely disabled in the BIOS.
That should be OK...

Also your Xorg log is reporting that the Nvidia driver has successfully
detected the internal display, which is 1920x1080 and is an LCD panel
manufactured by Chimei.

Your 'prewboot2.txt' seems to suggest maybe the remaining problem is
just that Ubuntu doesn't know how to properly control the display
backlight.

Please run this command:

  find /sys/class/backlight/ > backlights.txt

and send us the file 'backlights.txt'.
