[Bug 1843164] Re: gnome-terminal starts, but shows no window

2019-09-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I think gnome-terminal has other odd dependencies like it needs to
receive information about the login session and bus before it is willing
to display. For this reason I would recommend 'xterm' instead if you
need a working shell via ssh.

[Bug 1843107] Re: Themes and font settings don’t apply to X apps running in Wayland (g-s-d 3.33.90 → 3.33.92 regression)

2019-09-08 Thread Anders Kaseorg
By adding some debugging output to mutter and gnome-shell I verified
that mutter emits the x11-display-opened signal before gnome-shell is
able to connect a handler for it, and the handler never runs.

(Possibly things would be different in the experimental autostart-
xwayland mode, but the whole system froze when I tried to log in with
that enabled.)

[Bug 1840272] [NEW] Gnome as standard DE for Ubuntu instead of Unity

2019-09-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Gnome is a big step backward for Ubuntu, there are several usability
flaws in the main user concept of Gnome in comparison with Unity.

- There is no real pixel-saving in Gnome (i.e. oversized window-titlebars,
missing globalmenu support, no integration of the window-titelbar in the
menu-panel, etc...)
- The app menus are not consistent, there are some menu-entries in the
"main-menu"(in gnome panel) and some entries are in the "Hamburger" menu in the
app window and for some apps, like evince, there is a second "Hamburger" menu
(one with points, one with lines) for file-specific options. This can't be a
feature, it is definitely a bug!
- The file manager Nautilus is a mess and nearly unusable since most of the
options(!) are stripped from the settings! This can't be a feature but is
definitely a bug! (remember: Linux is always the freedom of choice - even in
the settings of an app. And why stripping existing and working options?)

i don't know the real reason why Marc abandoned Unity as the standard DE
in Ubuntu but in my opinion it is the biggest mistake he ever made
except abandoning the Ubuntu phone.

i know that this report will marked as "opinion" and no one ever hear the
voices of the people that still see the real potential in Unity and the design
flaws of Gnome!
And i know that i am not alone!

Perhaps there could be a way to reUnite the Gnome project with the strengths of
the Unity project for the sake of a big and bright future for both as a
synthesis!?
In my opinion Synthesis is the way of the new age, of the future, and everyone
who works against each other will fall behind...
please remember the strengths of Unity and see that the great success of Ubuntu
definetly has to do with Unity as the standard DE!
What Unity wants is UNIFY and what Gnome does is DISUNITE! (for examples see
the bugs on top of this report!)

Thanks Anders. I'm hoping this is fixed by the patches from

you're able to build your own gnome-shell package, maybe you could try
those commits? Otherwise, we should get them in the distro shortly (this

[Bug 1832940] [NEW] Consider making the shift action iterate windows by default

2019-09-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Currently the shift action is set to launch a new application, exactly
the same than the control action. If there is more than one window for
an app (say in position 1), then super+1 will open a preview to switch
between them, which is nice but has some shortcomings:

1) It's not a particularly fast shortcut, it requires moving between the
previews and pressing Enter to pick one.
2) It's a bit quirky when auto-hide is enabled (the previews are relocated
after the dock hides itself again).
3) The previews are fine but a bit small.

Now, there is another way to achieve iteration which is to use the
configurable shift modifier for that. Currently it's mapped to the same
action than control, that is, launch a new instance of the app.

Wouldn't it be more useful if you instead mapped it to iteration between
app windows? Since Ubuntu is not exposing settings for this, it seems to
me that as a "hard" default aliasing the shift and the control behaviors
is a waste.

[Bug 1826878] [NEW] Right Click Menu Stuck

2019-09-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This is one of those things that happens apparently randomly from my
(the user's) point of view. Occasionally, when I right click on a dock
icon to bring up the menu, the menu doesn't really respond to clicking
on the commands, and then stays on my screen even after the dock auto-
hides itself.

I can try clicking on the various commands in the menu, but nothing
happens. The menu remains on screen even when I switch applications or
virtual desktops.

I'm using whatever the latest packages are for Gnome and the Dock
extension that come with Ubuntu 19.04.

The only way I've found to resolve this has been to log out of my Gnome
session and log back in. I've been searching for a way to kill the Dock
and restart it, but haven't found anything in my web searches.

See attached screenshot.

[Bug 1841580] Re: Gimp crashed at work with healing tool

2019-09-08 Thread Michael Schumacher
Hi Paul,

as an upstream developer, it is nice to see that there is finally some
coordinated activity in Launchpad regarding bugs of third-party
applications.

What isn't that nice is that most of what I see is rather swift bug
closing - it would likely be a lot more useful if the bug was moved to
the bug tracker of the PPA the users got GIMP from, in most cases that
would be https://bugs.launchpad.net/~otto-kesselgulasch

However, I couldn't find anything in the Launchpad UI for that - is this
supported (maybe by a Ubuntu-specific external tool) or not?

[Bug 1841580] Re: Gimp crashed at work with healing tool

2019-09-08 Thread Paul White
It appears that you are not using a version of Gimp provided by the
official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can
not support or fix your particular bug. Thanks!

[Bug 1843157] [NEW] SUPER+D does not maximize minimized opened windows with SUPER+D after right-click on desktop

2019-09-08 Thread betteropensource
Public bug reported:

If I do SUPER+D the desktop will be shown minimizing all opened windows.

It I right-click on desktop, then I can't reuse SUPER+D to maximize
those windows.

In the previous Ubuntu versions it worked fine.

If I don't right-click on desktop SUPER+D works.

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04, just installed.
