[Bug 1850073] [NEW] Gnome is not responsive when opening long line file in gedit

2019-10-27 Thread Jaromir Obr
Public bug reported:

It seems to be a regression in Ubuntu 19.10.
It works well with Ubuntu 19.04.
I compared the behavior in both distros on the same HW.

Steps to reproduce:
* Download
https://github.com/vrana/adminer/releases/download/v4.7.4/adminer-4.7.4.php
(485 kB)
* Try to open the file in gedit
* Gedit isn't able to open it, see the performance bug #1850046

Expected result:
* You are still able to switch to another application using Alt + TAB or run
new application using "Super + command"

Actual result:
* It's almost impossible, Gnome doesn't response on those keyboard shortcuts.
It worked only once when I tested it.
* I noticed that the dialog "Text Editor not responding" appears in Ubuntu
19.10 after longer time than in 19.04. The buttons in it are not responding in
19.10 (in 19.04 they are)

Used HW and SW:
* HW: HP Envy 13 Skylake
* SW: Ubuntu 19.10, gnome-shell 3.34.1

[Bug 1834967] Re: Windows in Activities might be partially off screen

2019-10-27 Thread Carlos Pita
Also I agree that giving it low priority is to mischaracterise it, the
bug is not specific of Ubuntu, it's a bug somewhere in Gnome shell or in
Dash-to-dock that manifests when the dock is vertically stretched, as
it happens to be Ubuntu default configuration. But this also happens,
for example, in Manjaro, which ships a dock similarly stretched by
default.

[Bug 1834967] Re: Windows in Activities might be partially off screen

2019-10-27 Thread Rajah_Brooke
I can confirm that this is happening, and I don't think this should be
counted as low priority. It's a clear case of Ubuntu having an issue
which doesn't occur in any other GNOME based distributions. This bug
even appears in the OMG! Ubuntu! video "Ubuntu 19.10: What's New?" on
YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YywtDfnDI8

This is literally the only visible issue I have with 19.10, and it was
one I only didn't report in 19.04 because I assumed it was so clearly
visible that it would be fixed by 19.10.

---

On the X.Org X server - Nouveau display driver automatic login does
work, but as soon as i use nvidia 435, 430 or 390 i get stuck with a
login screen that wont log me in.

I've had no issues that resembles this on ubuntu 19.04.

It's not that big of deal (having to enter my password i mean), but if
there is something i can do to solve this i would love to be in the
know.

Update: So i decided to connect the tv directly to the pc the resolution
was reset to full hd and now i couldn't enter the desktop even without
automatic login disabled. So i entered recovery mode > followed by the
resume normal boot procedure and now i could get back in, so i tried
automatic login again, and yeah, no go on entering my desktop, so back
to recovery mode and the resume normal boot procedure... To my surprise
i was treated to an automatic login, but i didn't last, because when i
rebooted there was the same problem again.

Thanks for reading.

[Bug 505765] Re: gedit problem with long lines

An annoying thing on this bug is that it may lead to non-responsive Gnome
desktop and then you have to perform system restart to get Ubuntu desktop
working again, see #1850046.
I guess it may be caused by an issue in OS, not only in gedit.

[Bug 1850046] [NEW] gedit freezes when opening PHP file with long lines

2019-10-27 Thread Jaromir Obr
Public bug reported:

Steps:
* Download
https://github.com/vrana/adminer/releases/download/v4.7.4/adminer-4.7.4.php
(485 kB)
* Open it in gedit

Expected result:
* It takes a few seconds. E.g. in Visual Studio Code editor it takes max 10 sec

Actual result:
* File isn't open even in a few minutes
* I'm only getting a dialog "Text Editor not responding" with the buttons
"Wait" and "Force quit".
* Unfortunately neither "Wait" or "Force Quit" is working and Gnome stops
responding, so I have to switch to text console by Ctrl + Alt + F4 and kill the
gedit process. But then often when I switch back to Gnome desktop, it's still
not responding (e.g. neither clicking to any application nor keyboard is
working) and I have to restart OS.

Used SW:
* Ubuntu 19.10
* gedit 3.34.0-1

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.10
Package: gedit 3.34.0-1

[Bug 1845795] Re: authentication window got stuck over other windows

2019-10-27 Thread Abdul Rauf
I also faced this issue multiple times after upgrading to 18.10.
Screenshot is attached

Behavior:
1) Authentication Required dialog stucks at top left of the screen
2) Password text field becomes disabled so we cannot enter anything
3) Cancel button can be hovered and clicked from the button left but it does
nothing
4) Authenticate button doesn't show any hover effect

2019-10-27 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for recording.

xrdp 0.9.5-2 is available in Ubuntu 18.04, and looks like newer releases
have even newer versions. xorgrdp seems to have been updated too.

** Changed in: xrdp (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Released

[Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.

2019-10-27 Thread Sami Karhula
Restarting gdm3 seems to be a workaround if autologin is needed. I
entered that into /etc/rc.local and after gdm restarts autologin enabled
user will be logged in normally.
