I am using the ubuntu-x-swat ppa, which was an attempt to resolve some previous

[Bug 1853216] [NEW] evolution-addressbook-factory fails with slow CardDAV server

2019-11-19 Thread foobar
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to use Evolution to access a 6000-vcard collection on a slow
CardDAV server.

Evolution (actually the backend 'evolution-addressbook-factory') fails
to read the contents of an address book stored on this slow CardDAV
server.

The message is "Socket I/O timed out" (after ~90 seconds).

I can reliable synchronize my Android devices with this server, so the
CardDAV server is working just fine. I can also access this slow
CardDAV server using the Linux "cadaver" program, and just listing all
6000 cards requires about *180 seconds*. Clearly, any timeout of 180
seconds or less built into Evolution won't allow this CardDAV server to
operate properly.

So the problem is with Evolution.

The evolution-addressbook-factory program queries this CardDAV server
for a list of *all* of the contacts (i.e., all 6000 of them), which
takes the server 180 seconds to return.

Somewhere in the evolution-addressbook-factory code, there is a *hard-
coded* timeout of something like 90 seconds.

Either this hard-coded timeout should be increased to something like 5
minutes, or an option needs to be included for defining slow servers.

Note that due to standard CardDAV protocols, there doesn't appear to be
any way to avoid requesting and accepting the *entire list* of address
cards. This is because, while evolution-addressbook-factory
synchronizes at most 100 cards at a time, evolution needs to know each
card's resource name (file name) when requesting a batch of 100, and the
only way to do that is with a PROPFIND on the entire collection.

I have tested Evolution on both x86 and x64 versions, and they both fail
in exactly the same way, so the problem isn't machine-specific.

@Arnaud D this bug is specifically about the Authorization dialog in the
Software and Updates app. It is not a general problem with the mouse.
In fact it is nothing to do with the mouse at all.

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2019-11-19 Thread Arnaud D
After days of fresh reinstallations and tests, I finally found what was
causing this on my end and finally solved it by using a xorg
configuration override 10-evdev.conf as shown on [1]

Offender: Gaming mouse driver (Saitek Cyborg R.A.T.9 Wireless Mouse)
Driver: libinput

After a bit of research, I found that this mouse is known to be
malfunctioning with the default settings on Xorg. Despite working at a
first look, the default configuration is causing the below symptoms as
explained by [2]

After being plugged, the mouse will seems to work, but you may experience
different issues :
* You cannot move windows around when grabbing the window's title bar. (happens
with Openbox and other Window manager)
* You cannot click on buttons.
* You cannot get the focus on windows.
* You cannot open menus, even with keyboard shortcuts.
* Display does not refresh (using Xcompmgr)
* Closing certain windows restores functionality until the mouse locks into a
new window.

[Bug 1853185] [NEW] Evolution dark theme + 'save' imposes dark theme in message

2019-11-19 Thread Eric Jones
Public bug reported:

1)The release of Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
Release:18.04

2)The version of the package
evolution:
  Installed: 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.1

  Version table:

Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 3.28.1-2 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages

The problem is very similar to https://mail.gnome.org/archives
/evolution-list/2016-November/msg00063.html, which describes the problem
very well.

3)What I expect
I use the Evolution for OWA with a dark theme and "Inherit theme colors in HTML
mode" turned OFF. The editor works very well as described in the
aforementioned mailing list and sends messages with the white background even
though I am editing them with a dark background. When I save, I expect to be
able to reopen the email and continue editing without any changes. I expect
the saved copy to be exactly the same as if I was going to send it so that I
can open it on any other machine and send it exactly as if I had sent it
instead of saving it.

4)What happens instead
The problem comes in when I save the HTML message and then re-open it from the
server in another editor. This only really happens when I start editing on one
computer and finish on another because I am missing a file to attach or
something. It appears as though the HTML changes to match the theme are saved
to the server.

Thank you!

Since Ubuntu 19.04, I can not use Ubuntu on my VMware virtual machines on my

under Ubuntu 19.10 (even with a clean install).
I hope this problem will be resolved quickly. I want to migrate to a newer

I'm running LibreOffice 6.3.2.2 on Ubuntu 19.10 and Fedora 31

In these environments, copy/cut/paste often fails. Specifically, the
paste command sometimes does not paste the text that was cut/copied most
recently. Instead, it pastes text that was cut/copied at some prior
time.

Rationale: this is a regression on X11 in eoan (maybe not worth fixing

[Bug 1820143] Re: Package python-vte missing from Ubuntu 19.04

2019-11-19 Thread Ali Afshar
You can't just remove stuff because you don't like it! That's
appallingly bad manners.

Abominade https://github.com/aliafshar/a8 depends on this package and
overhauling it will require a lot of work - it doesn't use gi at all.

Please reconsider adding the package back. Good distros don't break
their customers.

Thanks

[Bug 1853126] [NEW] Go To Line... causes text cursor to disappear

2019-11-19 Thread Michal Pasniewski
Public bug reported:

1) I open an CMakeLists.txt (from llvm project)
2) cursor is in line 1
3) I Go To... 123
4) editor moves to some location, status shows Ln 123 Col 1
5) but cursor (keyboard's) is not visible (making me wonder *which* line on the
screen is indeed 123?!)

It is subtle GUI error. I never seen any editor make editing keyboard
cursor disappear, which is why I thought to report it.

I attached the screencast (the file is already open).
