is whether a bug is due to extensions, so they all need to be removed.
Be sure to uninstall them and don't just disable them as a buggy
extension can still interfere with the shell.

[Bug 1866228] Re: Gnome shell extensions are badly broken

2020-03-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This bug is diverging in a few too many directions. Although we should
have a single tracking bug for all the extensions that don't yet work in
3.36, this is not yet it...

Gipz: from the list of issues mentioned in the bug description please
choose one to focus on. Alternatively, if you would just like to track
all of the broken extensions then please list them.

Everyone else: Please do not comment here for now.

[Bug 1866228] Re: Gnome shell extensions are badly broken

2020-03-22 Thread Rocko
Extensions are pretty badly buggy for me on Focal. Some work, but many
don't, and won't upgrade, can't be configured, and don't give any
information about why they have failed.

If I go to https://extensions.gnome.org/, the installed extensions page
tells me that there are extensions like gsconnect and night-light-slider
have an unspecified error but that they can be upgraded, but when I tell
them to upgrade I just get another unspecified error and when I refresh
the page, it says again that I can upgrade them. Both those extensions
do apparently have 3.36 versions - I just can't upgrade them.

Likewise, trying to install these extensions from git doesn't work. I
still get an error but with no indication what it is.

The new gnome-shell Extensions application doesn't show any extensiosn
unless I use the On/Off button to disable and then re-enable them. Then
it shows some extensions, but not all, and some of the manually
installed ones appear in the Built-In section.

None of the configuration/settings windows work, whether I try to launch
them from gnome-tweaks, https://extensions.gnome.org/, or the new gnome-
shell Extensions application.

Coverflow-alt-tab is just broken in X11 (but works in Wayland) - see
https://github.com/dmo60/CoverflowAltTab/issues/117.

There are some errors in journalctl -e, such as this one:

JS ERROR: Error: Wrong type number; string expected:
_updateState@resource:///org/gnome/shell/extensionPrefs/main.js:706:9

I read somewhere that the configuration/settings windows not working is
a known issue in 3.35, so I'm looking forward to 3.36 arriving in Focal
and hopefully fixing some of these things.

[Bug 1866217] [NEW] Mouse pointer vanished on Wayland (okay on X)

2020-03-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Running 20.04 with all the repos enabled (including focal-proposed)

A recent update (apt-get dist-upgrade) made the mouse point disappear.

The mouse worked on a text console... and lsusb etc showed the presence of the
mouse.
In Wayland, pressing control key showed the pointer location.

Resolution
Edited /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and uncommented "WaylandEnable=false"
Rebooted a mouse pointer is now back.

Wayland device driver problem?

[Bug 1865170] Re: lid close simply turns off laptop screen

Ok I just got a grub update and I decided to see if dmesg would have any new
information for me, and found it did!
See: gnome-shell segfault, Mutex release error, ACPI parsing issue

Not sure if these are related to this bug, but since they happen around
the time I close the laptop lid, it might help.

[Bug 1859260] [NEW] Cant go back to primary monitor when app indicator menu is open

2020-03-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This bugs happens if you:

1. Open app indicator menu (top right);
2. Move your cursor to the right monitor;

Now you can't go back. The only way is pressing ESC to close app
indicator menu so that you can go back to the first monitor.

This only happens when ubuntu-dock autohide is on.

Maybe it can be useful: https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-

[Bug 1856516] Re: Excessive memory usage by gnome-shell in 19.10

2020-03-22 Thread Balazs Pere
In Ubuntu 20.04 (with the newest packages) the leak is present. After
logging in the memory usage of gnome-shell is 208MB. After pushing
Super+A it jumps to 213MB and stay there. After lock/unlock the screen
it jumps to 270MB and stays there. Repeated Super+A and lock/unlock
seems to do no further changes. After launching firefox it jumps to
290MB and stays there. Closing firefox and launching it again it jumps
to 300MB and stasy there. Repeatedly launching firefox (and other apps
like terminal, files, settings, etc.) seems to do just small ~100-500kB
jumps. Now it sits on 306MB.

[Bug 1386120] Re: evince and/or evince-thumbnailer stuck with high cpu load on specific dvi file

2020-03-22 Thread Mike Molina
After analyzing the error, I have noticed that the high CPU load is
related with an evince-thumbnailer exit error that also involves the
execution of some texlive commands. For example:

page: Error: /usr/share/texlive/texmf-
dist/fonts/tfm/public/cm/cmr10.tfm: File corrupted, or not a TFM file

also mentioned in:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1497727
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1195966/texlive-problems-in-log-file

By following these steps I have managed to reduce the high CPU load:

0. compile a tex document to generate dvi document.

1. run evince-thumbnailer in terminal:
   $ evince-thumbnailer parcial2.dvi out.dvi 2>output-evince-thumbnailer.txt
   the header of the output file mentions that some TeX commands are denied
permission,
   $ grep 'kpathsea' output-evince-thumbnailer.txt | cut -b 19-

2. create a script to execute omitted commands:
   $ grep 'kpathsea' output-evince-thumbnailer.txt | cut -b 19- | sed -e '1i #!
/bin/sh' > cmd.sh
   $ chmod 775 cmd.sh
   $ ./cmd.sh
   new font files are generated in the $TEXMFVAR directory. How to know its
value?
   $ tlmgr conf | grep 'TEXMFVAR'

3. a new run of evince-thumbnailer may reveal other omitted commands by
repeating item 1.

A new run of evince-thumbnailer the CPU doesn't show high load:
$ evince-thumbnailer parcial2.dvi out.dvi

I hope the mentioned steps guide the correction of this bug.

Thanks for your report. It's already translated:

center/+pots/gnome-control-center-2.0/nl/1331

It's just that the language packs have not yet been updated for focal.
That will happen soon.

[Bug 1868480] [NEW] gnome mouse (trackpad ) and keyboard freezes

2020-03-22 Thread Rainer
Public bug reported:

My Thinkpad ist working since years without this problem. Since last
Friday, after a reboot, I got mouse and keyboard freezed. I reboot
multiple time to analyse the problem. Google as a friend shows me that
some problems are reported and I learned a lot but no solution for me.

I find out that the problem occurs after 3 to 10 minutes of mouse and keyboard
inactivity the mouse and keyboard freezes. If I always working with the mouse
or the keyboard no freeze, still for hours. The problem is still reproducible
by mouse and keyboard inactivity. This I figured out:
- Strg+Alt+Del helps but all work are lost
- klicking application (multiple points) entering some character an klicking
application again helps some time
- closing the lid and opening it after about 30 seconds helps, but requires
password.

I changed in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf #Enable=true to Enable=true and
reboot. Login and wait till freeze, wait, close lid, and open lid.

I run journalctl -b >aalog.txt (I have it attached) and analysed it. I found
that every freeze time there is an error:
Mär 22 15:19:41 BN591 gnome-shell[2978]: JS ERROR: Exception in callback for
signal: StatusChanged: Error: value is out of range for Argument 'interval'

[Bug 1868428] [NEW] sound and brightness indicators in system menu default after startup and suspend

2020-03-22 Thread antoonstessels

Every time I start my computer or restart after suspend, the sound and
brightness are OK, but in the system menu, the buttons are all the way
