I tried this with a NVIDIA graphics card, and surely enough, the bug is
present. With my AMDGPU system it doesn't happen.

[Bug 1753070] Re: Cannot restore default alert sound (Ubuntu bell)

2020-04-04 Thread padmahas
Hello @Sebastein,

I installed day before yesterday's nightly build, of Ubuntu Focal Fossa
(development branch).
The issue which @Lucas Czepaniki (lucas.czpnk) mentioned at comment number 6
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1753070/comments/6),
still is there in that build. The issue is,

Whichever the notification sound we choose after default, only that
sound will take effect. Directly changing to another type of alert sound
will not take effect. To reproduce the problem,

1. Open terminal,
2. Open sound settings, initially it will be "default". Change that to some
other alert sound, say, "Drip".
3. Switch to terminal and press backspace, you will hear "Drip".
4. Switch to sound settings, this time select "Glass".
5. Switch to terminal and press backspace, here is the issue. You will not hear
"Glass". You will still hear "Drip".
6. Switch to sound settings, now select default first and then select "Glass".
7. Switch to terminal and press backspace, now you will hear "Glass".

So to summarize, if you want to change the alert sound, first you have to
switch back to "Default" and then only whichever other alert sound you select,
will take effect.
Since the release time is near, I thought it would be helpful to fix this
before release.

Thank you.

[Bug 1870848] [NEW] Show Applications blanks bottom 2/3 of bottom screen

2020-04-04 Thread Bob Harold
Public bug reported:

When I connect an external monitor (HDMI), and arrange it above the laptop
monitor (same resolution), and click "Show Applications" button in lower left,
the "Frequent" and "All" buttons are near the top of the laptop screen instead
of at the bottom, and the matrix of applications is blanked out (the bottom 2/3
of the laptop screen). If I start typing, I can see the top half of the icons
that match what I am typing.

When I click the "Show Applications" button in the lower left, it brings up a

[Bug 1870725] Re: artifacts appearing on gnome shell

2020-04-04 Thread Ryan Hirasaki
I believed I narrowed down the issue to how gnome-shell uses Xorg.

As said before GDM did not have any issues, and (i may be seriously
wrong here) GDM uses Wayland by default. When I launch the Ubuntu
desktop with Wayland, the graphical issue went away and is running
smoothly.

So I narrowed down the issue to Xorg or gnome-shell. So I went ahead and
installed Cinnamon DE which uses Xorg, and the issue did not arise.

My theory is that gnome-shell has a problem with rendering the shell
(not programs) with Xorg.

I also attached another image showing the problem, could the issue be
the compositor???

Public bug reported:

This package is required for access to the settings dialog for any Gnome
Shell extension, which will throw an error without it. It is no longer
installed in 20.04 by default and has to be manually installed by the
user, but I believe it should be installed by default.

[Bug 1866146] Re: GNOME Shell 3.35.91 extension's preferences doesn't load

2020-04-04 Thread Jason DeRose
I don't think the user should need to take additional action to install
this package - it should already be there, as in other distros including
3.36. This package has been present by default in previous versions of
Ubuntu as well.

[Bug 1870815] [NEW] My child was able to crash gdm

2020-04-04 Thread Jussi Lind
Public bug reported:

I let my 1-year-old child play with the login screen for ~5 minutes.
After hitting all kinds of keys (the sequence seemed to be very
complicated) we ended up with a black screen with mouse cursor only
slowly responding to mouse movement and lagging behind.

I couldn't do anything else but reset the PC.

First this seems to be funny, but then you realize how embarrassing it
is. It absolutely should not be possible to crash the login screen just
like that. How is that even possible? The login screen should just
either accept a password or reject it no matter what keys are being
pressed.

[Bug 1868440] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in st_theme_node_get_font_features()

2020-04-04 Thread elPraga
Not sure if I'm adding my report to the correct bug, but still...

When I lock the screen or put the computer to sleep, gnome-shell
crashes. The crash might be related to extensions, as I was unable to
reproduce the crashes when extensions were disabled.

Nontheless, Gnome-shell should not crash or be unable to wake up from
suspend because of a faulty extension.

I'm not really sure if I am attaching the appropriate information,
please, let me know if more information is needed. (please, mention also
how to obtain it)

Thank you for your work!

with regards,

Tomas Kaluza

[Bug 1870758] [NEW] Screen scaling 150% results in monitor power save state

2020-04-04 Thread PerJensen
Public bug reported:

Working on fully updated focal fossy

Procedure to make bug happen:

1. open gnome control center and select screen (skærme in danish)

2. click the "fractional scaling" switch

3. select 150% scaling and click the green button at top right

4. Result is a blank screen and the monitor going into a power save
state

A reboot doesn't help. The login screen appears, when I log in the screen goes
blank again and the monitor power save kicks in.

If I select the "unity" environment, the display does work.

If I do this on the command line "gsettings set org.gnome.mutter
experimental-features ['']", I can log in as usual and fractional
scaling has been turned off.
