[Bug 1871972] Re: Update pango for Unicode 13.0

2020-04-09 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

Unicode 13 was released a month ago. The Pango library needs to be
updated for the new emoji sequences for emoji that are implemented by
multiple emoji in sequence to appear as a single character instead of as
  separate parts. For instance, https://emojipedia.org/black-cat/
+
+ Pango is used by many apps (particularly GTK apps) to display emoji.

By doing this update for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS now, it will be easier to get
full Unicode 13 support once Ubuntu's color emoji font (fonts-noto-
color-emoji) is released with Unicode 13 support in a few months.

I don't believe a freeze exception is necessary for this improvement
  now.

[Bug 1871967] [NEW] Terminal stutters with a light filter-like thing on screen when another window is above it

2020-04-09 Thread Seija Kijin
Public bug reported:

When I ran ubuntu-bug, and the ubuntu-bug window appeared, I noticed the
ubuntu terminal window flickering between a white filter on it, and the
terminal's normal appearance.

This happens whenever I run "ubuntu-bug" and the window asking me for
more information appears.

The bug is with terminal, or xorg on Terminal.

Same for me. Double copy is necessary, random but frequent under Libre Office.
Same for cut of course, although the cut is effectively made, but the content
is not present in the clipboard (or whatsoever).

[Bug 1841646] Re: White text on white background for HTML e-mail

2020-04-09 Thread Christopher Howard
I've tested version 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.2 and all looks to be working
properly.

I removed the preference file that prevented libwebkit2gtk from
upgrading and then upgraded it. Then upgraded evolution from the bionic-
proposed repository.

All emails that were displaying white text on a white background are no
longer doing that. Text is now black. I've seen no other problems with
evolution so far.

[Bug 1871882] [NEW] gnome-session-bin package cannot function without gnome-session

2020-04-09 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Public bug reported:

This concerns gnome-session-bin 3.36.0-2ubuntu1 in Ubuntu focal.

When I log into a Xubuntu desktop via xrdp, an error occurs, and the
session terminates before the desktop is even drawn on the screen.

I looked in syslog, and saw this:

before GNOME Session starts.

[Bug 1871869] Re: Nautilus copy task status is not accurate.

2020-04-09 Thread sudodus
Your observation is correct and I have seen it too. RAM is bigger and
processes are buffering in RAM more aggressively in recent computers
with recent versions of linux operating systems. Be aware that also
Windows uses this feature and for that reason you must 'remove the USB
drive safely' or your data on it might get corrupted also in Windows.

For this reason I check flushing the buffers in the new tool to create
USB boot drives, mkusb-plug. If you install mkusb-plug, it will bring
the shellscript watch-flush, that you can use as a stand-alone program,
or use it via the zenity GUI as I use it in mkusb-plug.

It would certainly be possible to do something similar also in Files
alias nautilus.

There are pros and cons to let nautilus wait while the buffers are
flushed when writing to removable drives, but I agree with your point:

Newbies might be tricked into yanking a USB pendrive before the buffers
are flushed. Also more experienced users might forget about
unmounting/ejecting. So if nautilus (or maybe a dedicated system

[Bug 1871869] [NEW] Nautilus copy task status is not accurate.

2020-04-09 Thread John
Public bug reported:

Problem is discussed at
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2440314 When copying a large
file, using Files (1.34.1-stable), to an external USB thumb drive, the
copy progress status will typically say 100% complete and 0" seconds"
while the file is still being written to the USB thumb drive (with some
thumb drives a user can see the activity light flashing until
completion). The amount of time that Nautilus sits there at 100% with 0
seconds left is truly remarkable. It must by 95% of the entire copy task
time. To the novice user the "100% and "0 seconds left" status message
leaves the expectation that the thumb drive can be removed at any time
(novice users will probably just yank the thumb drive out and later on
complain about corrupted files). I think this a serious usability issue.
This should be changed/fixed.

[Bug 1871868] [NEW] Keyboard shortcut restoring shortcut cut short when localized

2020-04-09 Thread Jani Uusitalo
Public bug reported:

When trying to start a virtual machine with Gnome Boxes, I get a prompt
about keyboard shortcuts. The prompt text is localized, but translated
back to English (I think, based on [1]) it says:

Boxes wants to inhibit shortcuts

You can restore shortcuts by pressing Super+Escape.

In my locale (Finnish), it says

Sovellus Boksit haluaa rajoittaa pikanäppäinten toimintaa.

Voit palauttaa pikanäppäinten toiminnan painamalla Super...

(sic; see attached photo)

So the actual key combination is truncated, defeating the point of that
part of the text.

This isn't a localization error (AFAICT; see [2]). It's caused by the
text being forced to fit on a single line of an arbitrarily fixed width,
instead of wrapping to span as many lines as needed.

(I'm reporting this against gnome-shell as opposed gnome-boxes based on
[3]. Feel free to reassign as necessary.)

[Bug 1871864] [NEW] Toggle "Fractional Scaling" does nothing on wayland

2020-04-09 Thread Grant Kim
Public bug reported:

System: Ubuntu Focal Fossa (Development Branch) 20.04

Version of "gnome-control-center": 1:3.36.1-1ubuntu4

In the setting there is option called "Fractional Scaling" but this
option only works for X11.

What is the problem:
Enabling "Fractional Scaling" adds only ['x11-randr-fractional-scaling'] but
['scale-monitor-framebuffer']

What it should be:
Enabling "Fractional Scaling" in the setting adds parameter for both X11 and
wayland:
['x11-randr-fractional-scaling', 'scale-monitor-framebuffer']

The feature has been removed[1] from nautilus by upstream. There is no

Usando escala fraccional al 125 % en un monitor con resolución 1080p . No
puedo ver videos a pantalla completa en firefox por de repente escala a 300
% . Algo similar ocurre con juegos de steam a pantalla completa. En
chromium no se producen errores.

[Bug 1871358] Re: Dock shows on all displays even when you don't want it to (because all displays are the same model of monitor)

2020-04-09 Thread Chris McCutcheon
Thank you.

After reviewing the Dash-to-Dock code myself I discovered another
gsetting "multi-monitor". When "multi-monitor" is set to "true" the
"preferred-monitor" setting is ignored. Changing "multi-monitor" to
"false" has corrected the problem for me.

I am able to consistently reproduce the issue with Ubuntu 20.04.
Changing the "Show On" setting in the Appearance UI to "All Displays"
sets the "multi-monitor" option to "true" but when selecting a specific
monitor the setting UI never clears the "multi-monitor" setting.

[Bug 1871805] [NEW] Update g-t 3.36 version to solve --wait issue(bionic)

2020-04-09 Thread Roger
Public bug reported:

Dear Maintainers,

We have developed a program that it launches a new gnome-terminal with a ssh
tunnel connection. Basically, the program forwards a local port to the
destination address and opens a new terminal with a ssh connection to the local
port:

gnome-terminal -e "/usr/bin/ssh -o XXX -p XXX ubuntu@127.0.0.2"

The problem comes when we need to know when this gnome-terminal session
has finished, in order to end the tunnel process. As you might know, the
gnome-terminal command fires up gnome-terminal-server which it might be
already running. Who handles the "ssh" connection is the gnome-terminal-
server and not the gnome-terminal command, thus our program receives and
exit code just after executing the previous command.

In previous version there was the --disable-factory option, but
unfortunately now is deprecated. Because of this type of problem it was
added the --wait flag which was introduced in 3.27.1:

gnome-terminal --wait -e "/usr/bin/ssh -o XXX -p XXX ubuntu@127.0.0.2"

Nevertheless, there's a bug in this version. More information:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-terminal/issues/16

You can reproduced by launching a new gnome-terminal with the --wait
flag from a gnome-terminal session and try to close it via a window
operation. In that version --wait only works if with the exit command in
the opened session.

As mentioned in the linked URL this is solved in version >= 3.36 which
also uses a new vte version (libvte-2.91-dev_0.60.1). I have seen that
there are multiple issues referring the --disable-factory deprecated
option, those could be closed as the new --wait option has the same
behavior.

Could we update the bionic gnom-terminal 3.28 to >= 3.36 version?

[Bug 1871791] [NEW] Update to Unicode 12.1 release

2020-04-09 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Google has released a new version of their Noto Emoji font.

I don't believe this requires a freeze exception since we should do
these updates if possible so that emoji display correctly in Ubuntu.

For more details, see
https://blog.emojipedia.org/google-march-2020-pixel-feature-drop-emoji-changelog/

If we don't take this particular update, the biggest downside will be
that emojis show up as separate parts. For example, the gender neutral
health care worker will appear as two characters (adult and the medical
symbol) instead of as a single character.

https://emojipedia.org/health-worker/

However, we will also need an updated Pango for those new combined emoji
to display as a single emoji in apps using Pango (such as GTK apps).

[Bug 1871787] [NEW] Screen sharing can not be enabled from the Gnome Control Center

2020-04-09 Thread Martin Weißhaupt
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Version: Ubuntu Focal Fossa
Package version: 1:3.36.1-1ubuntu4
Expected: Using Screen sharing as expected and often used before
Result: Screen sharing is disabled and can't be reenabled

I have checked the system logs and found this entry:
gnome-control-c[223776]: couldn't list networks:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Invalid service name
'vino-server'

Then I have tried to reinstall the vino package in case that something broke in
the update yesterday. This did not help so I tried executing the binary
manually and this worked:
/usr/lib/vino/vino-server
09/04/2020 10:16:55 Autoprobing TCP port in (all) network interface
09/04/2020 10:16:55 Listening IPv6://[::]:5900
09/04/2020 10:16:55 Listening IPv4://0.0.0.0:5900
09/04/2020 10:16:55 Autoprobing selected port 5900
09/04/2020 10:16:55 Advertising security type: 'TLS' (18)
... (shortened)

The problem might be something related to DBus but I'm not shure.

[Bug 1868440] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in st_theme_node_get_font_features() from _st_set_text_from_style()

2020-04-09 Thread Gordon Ball
In my case it did appear to be gTile related also. Just manually
disabling the extension on the gnome extensions panel was also
sufficient to trigger a crash (presumably triggering the same path as
when the screen lock was activated). Presumably other extensions using
libst can have the same effect.

[Bug 1871358] Re: Dock shows on all displays even when you don't want it to (because all displays are the same model of monitor)

2020-04-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks, it means that's not an issue with the settings interface but
with the dock itself, could you report the issue upstream on
https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/issues ?
