[Bug 1832222] Re: using aakar font reboots printer

2020-04-16 Thread Allan Dyer
I re-tested in preparation for submitting the bug to Debian, and the problem
has disappeared.
Something has changed in the 10 months since my report, the package is still
Version: 1.0-6ubuntu0.1, but plenty of other packages on the system have been
updated.
As there is no way of reproducing and investigating the root cause, I'm marking
it as Invalid.

[Bug 1862553] Re: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in cc_panel_get_title_widget()

2020-04-16 Thread Robert Ancell
What's happening is g-c-c is attempting to select the requested online
account setup (ubuntusso in this case) at the time it's creating the
panel. This works if the panel was already selected. Investigating
exactly why doing both at the same time crashes and how to resolve.

this bug is different, am talking about the size of icons inside the app
folder and not the event that occur after closing the app folder.

The icons inside app folder are huge and do not matches the rest of the
fnome shell.

[Bug 1873321] Re: The Show Applications button is unclickable in the corner and along its bottom edge

2020-04-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I don't think this is a bug since the button doesn't reach the corner of
the screen. But rather than relying on what I say you should report the
issue to the upstream developers at:

  https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/issues

and then tell us the new bug ID.

[Bug 1873257] Re: gnome-shell crashes randomly

2020-04-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

need to file this as a potential SRU, but it might get fixed before the

I see hat you mean!
But I really need it for 3 monitors.
If it monitors in side-by-side it works fine, if vertically - seems like a bug.

Pls consider fixing.

Any settings that can ease the pain ?

"normal" (Re)boot without update => no bug.

By any chance is "Mouse Keys" enabled?

To check, go to the "Settings" application and look under the "Universal

restores use of your numeric keypad.

Thank you for your bug report. What locale do you use? On what folder do you
see the issue? Does it happen in /var/log for example?.
I can't confirm the issue here on an uptodate focal installation

[Bug 1873348] [NEW] Fullscreen videos and direct-rendering windows cause monitors with integer-scaling to be reconfigured

2020-04-16 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

- Enable fractional scaling toggle on x11
- Scale a monitor of 200%, 300%... (any integer value)
- Play a game or a video fullscreen
- The monitors are reconfigured causing a black window

This is expected in fractional scaling to make direct-rendering to work
properly, but not when the monitor is not scaled or scaled or with an
integer value

[Bug 1872871] Re: Xdg-Shell Stable not working properly

2020-04-16 Thread a b
SOLVED (code-error and not an actual issue (although perhaps the window-
selector glitching-out with improper code should be addressed)):

From
(https://www.reddit.com/r/vulkan/comments/g1ikb0/gnome_wayland_not_working_with_vulkan_on_debian/):

Thanks, I tried putting wl_proxy_marshal((struct wl_proxy *)
xdg_surface, XDG_SURFACE_ACK_CONFIGURE, serial);
(xdg_surface_ack_configure() equivalent) before every vkQueueSubmit (I
know that you meant to put the ack in response to events, but while
trying to make things work, I thought that it needed to be before every
vkQueueSubmit), and the window-menu started working, but events weren't
triggering. I then discovered that I needed to call
wl_display_roundtrip() every frame and only call
xdg_surface_ack_configure after certain events (xdg_surface_listener's
and xdg_toplevel_listener's configure events). This is what I ended-up
with in my draw loop:

retStatus = wl_display_flush(display);
if(retStatus == -1) {
//TODO: use poll() to wait until display fd is writable
again, and call wl_display_flush again
exit(1);
}
wl_display_roundtrip(display); //blocks
submitInfos[0].pCommandBuffers = [imageIndex];
vkQueueSubmit(graphicsQueue, 1, submitInfos,
fence);
wl_display_dispatch_pending(display);

[Bug 1873321] [NEW] The Show Applications button is unclickable in the corner and along its bottom edge

2020-04-16 Thread Doctor Rover
Public bug reported:

After one of the recent updates, clicking the Show Applications button in the
very corner of the screen and at its bottom edge doesn't work. This bug applies

in the case of bottom position.
This issue is very annoying since the mouse pointer runs at the very corner of
the screen in vast majority of cases as you intent to press the Show Apps
button.

I see; thanks for clarifying.

Those fonts are packaged by Debian, and I would think that you are more
likely to find someone enough knowledgeable to respond properly to your
report there. I would recommend that you try this mailing list:

https://lists.debian.org/debian-fonts/

I'll keep this bug open for tracking purposes.

[Bug 1873301] [NEW] charmap command missing after upgrade to 20.04 (Focal Fossa)

2020-04-16 Thread Smylers
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS beta (gucharmap version
1:13.0.1-1), I found that the charmap command was missing. After some
searching I discovered it still exists with the name gucharmap. Maybe it
was always called gucharmap and there used to be a symlink from charmap
which the upgrade removed?

The charmap(1) manpage still exists, as a symlink to gucharmap. It's
weird having a manpage for a command that doesn't exist.

Please could we have a charmap symlink (back)? At least some users are
used to using that name.

The changelog mentions previously fixing the charmap symlink in version 0.6.0-1:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=187522

and installing the charmap.1 link in version 1:2.24.2-1.

I couldn't see anything in there suggesting that the removal of the
charmap symlink was intentional. Thanks.

[Bug 1873298] [NEW] No way to enroll multiple fingers for identification

2020-04-16 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

This is the continuation of bug #1865845.

In g-c-c user panel, it is not possible to enroll more than one finger
for authentication.

steps:
1. enroll fingerprint in gnome-control-center
2. close the dialog
3. click it again to enroll another finger
4. it shows a dialog requiring you to delete your fingerprints

As per this, GNOME design has produced some artwork that we want to implement
to fix all these issues:

There will be few new strings, although most of the action events are
already covered by the fprintd translations.

UI will change quite a lot, but the current documentation [1] should not
be affected by the change, being quite generic, but in case it might be
updated to be clearer.

[Bug 1873266] [NEW] cannot change main monitor after setting scaling for monitors w/nvidia drivers

2020-04-16 Thread Ian Johnson
Public bug reported:

After booting with nvidia drivers, if I change which monitor is the main
one first, then change the scaling from 100% to 200%, it works. But
doing this in the inverse direction, by first setting the scaling and
then changing the main monitor, it fails and the screens go black. Oddly
enough, it also fails to revert this setting and I have to hard-reboot
(though I could probably try switching ttys, etc).

This is with focal and focal-proposed enabled. I also have the
proprietary 440 nvidia drivers enabled, and I'm using default gnome with
x11.

[Bug 1872527] Re: Clipboard doesn't work 100% of the time in Ubuntu 20.04 (in KVM guests)

2020-04-16 Thread John Morrison
Hi Bryce,

After long testing I have no problems with any key shortcuts (Ctrl+d and
Ctrl+z for example), I only see this issue when using Clipboard.

I tested:
Kubuntu host with Console (Qt terminal) and Ubuntu guest with GNOME terminal
(GTK) - problem
Kubuntu host with Console (Qt terminal) and Kubuntu guest with Console (Qt
terminal) - problem
Kubuntu host with Kate (Qt text editor) and Ubuntu guest with GNOME text editor
(GTK) - problem
Kubuntu host with Kate (Qt text editor) and Kubuntu guest with Kate (Qt text
editor) - problem

All after a fresh reboot - no other applications running, no extensions
in GNOME.

ALL shortcuts work (Ctrl+d, Ctrl+z..., Shift+Ctrl+z...), the only
problem is Clipboard shortcuts and pasting / copying using mouse.

That tells me that the problem is clipboard, not the input (mouse /
keyboard).

Please let me know if you need more info ;-). Thank you!

(btw. I almost lost this post since I Ctrl+x it from Kate and then I
wasn't able to Paste it using Ctrl+v or by mouse, good thing is that I
didn't close the Kate so I just Ctrl+z and I copied it again ;-))

[Bug 1871805] Re: --wait option not working as expected (3.28)

2020-04-16 Thread Roger
** Summary changed:

- Update g-t 3.36 version to solve --wait issue(bionic)
+ --wait option not working as expected (3.28)

** Description changed:

  Dear Maintainers,

-
- We have developed a program that it launches a new gnome-terminal with a ssh
tunnel connection. Basically, the program forwards a local port to the
destination address and opens a new terminal with a ssh connection to the local
port:

+ We have developed a program that it launches a new gnome-terminal with a
+ ssh tunnel connection. Basically, the program forwards a local port to
+ the destination address and opens a new terminal with a ssh connection
+ to the local port:

  gnome-terminal -e "/usr/bin/ssh -o XXX -p XXX ubuntu@127.0.0.2"

The problem comes when we need to know when this gnome-terminal session
has finished, in order to end the tunnel process. As you might know, the
gnome-terminal command fires up gnome-terminal-server which it might be
already running. Who handles the "ssh" connection is the gnome-terminal-
server and not the gnome-terminal command, thus our program receives and
exit code just after executing the previous command.

In previous version there was the --disable-factory option, but
unfortunately now is deprecated. Because of this type of problem it was
added the --wait flag which was introduced in 3.27.1:

  gnome-terminal --wait -e "/usr/bin/ssh -o XXX -p XXX ubuntu@127.0.0.2"

-
- Nevertheless, there's a bug in this version. More information:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-terminal/issues/16
+ Nevertheless, there's a bug in this version. More information:

You can reproduced by launching a new gnome-terminal with the --wait
flag from a gnome-terminal session and try to close it via a window
operation. In that version --wait only works if with the exit command in
  the opened session.

As mentioned in the linked URL this is solved in version >= 3.36 which
also uses a new vte version (libvte-2.91-dev_0.60.1). I have seen that
there are multiple issues referring the --disable-factory deprecated
option, those could be closed as the new --wait option has the same
  behavior.

- Could we update the bionic gnom-terminal 3.28 to >= 3.36 version?
+ Shall we update the libvte version used by gnome? The last libvte
+ version has the proper child exit SIGNAL handler which solves the
+ described issue.

[Bug 1873247] [NEW] snaps, flatpacks, and debs belong in a single entry

2020-04-16 Thread Steven Jay Cohen
Public bug reported:

Open gnome-software and search for darktable (or any package that exists
as a snap, a deb, and a flatpack).

You will find 2 entries for darktable in the list. One entry bundles the
deb and the flatpack, letting you choose one from a drop down menu. The
other entry lists the snap, alone.

If the functionality already exists to bundle menu entries, then snaps
should take advantage of it.

In cases where the list is long (search Zoom as an example), one entry
may be at the top and the other only visible if you scroll down quite a
way.

Not bundling all options into a single entry obfuscates choice and
reduces clarity/findability.

** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

snaps do not"

[Bug 1866841] Re: Add chrome-gnome-shell to ubuntu-desktop recommends

2020-04-16 Thread AsciiWolf
Support for Shell Extensions was removed from GNOME Software since 3.36
(because it was problematic and hard to maintain). I just checked it in
the latest stable Snap Store app and was not able to find any support
for Shell Extensions there.

So, I see three possible solutions for this issue:

1. Add downstream support for Shell Extensions to GNOME Software / Snap Store
on Ubuntu. (That would bring too much work and possible issues, at least in my
opinion.)
2. Add AppStream metadata file to the chrome-gnome-shell package that would
display the package as Add-on for something (Firefox?) in Snap Store.
3. If a package from main cannot depend on a package from universe, move
gnome-shell-extension-prefs to universe and add chrome-gnome-shell to its
dependencies. (That would be the best solution in my opinion.)

[Bug 1872364] Re: Launchpad translations are not exported back to the snap package

2020-04-16 Thread Simos Xenitellis 
@asciiwolf, this bug report is about the translations that you can see
in https://translations.launchpad.net/snap-store

They are not being exported from Launchpad so that they are added to the Snap
Store snap package.
This issue will be resolved soon. Being a snap package, there is no real hard
deadline.

Therefore, if you can find the message "Permissions" when you search in
https://translations.launchpad.net/snap-store
then this message has been localized correctly.

If, however, you can see a message in Snap Store and cannot find it when you
search in https://translations.launchpad.net/snap-store
then this could possibly be a message that has not been marked (by accident) as
localizable (translatable) by the developers and has not been picked up.
