[Bug 1873257] Re: gnome-shell crashes randomly
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873257 Title: gnome-shell crashes randomly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1873257/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

SOLVED (code-error and not an actual issue (although perhaps the window- selector glitching-out with improper code should be addressed)): From (https://www.reddit.com/r/vulkan/comments/g1ikb0/gnome_wayland_not_working_with_vulkan_on_debian/): Thanks, I tried putting wl_proxy_marshal((struct wl_proxy *) xdg_surface, XDG_SURFACE_ACK_CONFIGURE, serial); (xdg_surface_ack_configure() equivalent) before every vkQueueSubmit (I know that you meant to put the ack in response to events, but while trying to make things work, I thought that it needed to be before every vkQueueSubmit), and the window-menu started working, but events weren't triggering. I then discovered that I needed to call wl_display_roundtrip() every frame and only call xdg_surface_ack_configure after certain events (xdg_surface_listener's and xdg_toplevel_listener's configure events). This is what I ended-up with in my draw loop: retStatus = wl_display_flush(display); if(retStatus == -1) { //TODO: use poll() to wait until display fd is writable again, and call wl_display_flush again exit(1); } wl_display_roundtrip(display); //blocks submitInfos[0].pCommandBuffers = [imageIndex]; vkQueueSubmit(graphicsQueue, 1, submitInfos, fence); wl_display_dispatch_pending(display); ** Changed in: gnome-desktop3 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: gnome-desktop3 (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => a b (the-coder) ** Changed in: gnome-desktop3 (Debian) Assignee: (unassigned) => a b (the-coder) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-desktop3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872871 Title: Xdg-Shell Stable not working properly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-desktop3/+bug/1872871/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1873301] [NEW] charmap command missing after upgrade to 20.04 (Focal Fossa)
Public bug reported: After upgrading to the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS beta (gucharmap version 1:13.0.1-1), I found that the charmap command was missing. After some searching I discovered it still exists with the name gucharmap. Maybe it was always called gucharmap and there used to be a symlink from charmap which the upgrade removed? The charmap(1) manpage still exists, as a symlink to gucharmap. It's weird having a manpage for a command that doesn't exist. Please could we have a charmap symlink (back)? At least some users are used to using that name. The changelog mentions previously fixing the charmap symlink in version 0.6.0-1: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=187522 and installing the charmap.1 link in version 1:2.24.2-1. I couldn't see anything in there suggesting that the removal of the charmap symlink was intentional. [Bug 1871805] Re: --wait option not working as expected (3.28)
** Summary changed: - Update g-t 3.36 version to solve --wait issue(bionic) + --wait option not working as expected (3.28) ** Description changed: Dear Maintainers, - - We have developed a program that it launches a new gnome-terminal with a ssh tunnel connection. Basically, the program forwards a local port to the destination address and opens a new terminal with a ssh connection to the local port: - + We have developed a program that it launches a new gnome-terminal with a + ssh tunnel connection. Basically, the program forwards a local port to + the destination address and opens a new terminal with a ssh connection + to the local port: gnome-terminal -e "/usr/bin/ssh -o XXX -p XXX ubuntu@127.0.0.2" The problem comes when we need to know when this gnome-terminal session has finished, in order to end the tunnel process. As you might know, the gnome-terminal command fires up gnome-terminal-server which it might be already running. Who handles the "ssh" connection is the gnome-terminal- server and not the gnome-terminal command, thus our program receives and exit code just after executing the previous command. In previous version there was the --disable-factory option, but unfortunately now is deprecated. Because of this type of problem it was added the --wait flag which was introduced in 3.27.1: gnome-terminal --wait -e "/usr/bin/ssh -o XXX -p XXX ubuntu@127.0.0.2" - - Nevertheless, there's a bug in this version. More information: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-terminal/issues/16 + Nevertheless, there's a bug in this version. More information: + https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-terminal/issues/16 You can reproduced by launching a new gnome-terminal with the --wait flag from a gnome-terminal session and try to close it via a window operation. In that version --wait only works if with the exit command in the opened session. As mentioned in the linked URL this is solved in version >= 3.36 which also uses a new vte version (libvte-2.91-dev_0.60.1). I have seen that there are multiple issues referring the --disable-factory deprecated option, those could be closed as the new --wait option has the same behavior. - Could we update the bionic gnom-terminal 3.28 to >= 3.36 version? + Shall we update the libvte version used by gnome? [Bug 1873247] [NEW] snaps, flatpacks, and debs belong in a single entry
Public bug reported: Open gnome-software and search for darktable (or any package that exists as a snap, a deb, and a flatpack). You will find 2 entries for darktable in the list. One entry bundles the deb and the flatpack, letting you choose one from a drop down menu. The other entry lists the snap, alone. If the functionality already exists to bundle menu entries, then snaps should take advantage of it. In cases where the list is long (search Zoom as an example), one entry may be at the top and the other only visible if you scroll down quite a way. Not bundling all options into a single entry obfuscates choice and reduces clarity/findability. ** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "Showing that Flatpacks & debs already bundle together and snaps do not" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873247/+attachment/5355472/+files/Screenshot%20from%202020-04-16%2006-31-10.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873247 Title: snaps, flatpacks, and debs belong in a single entry To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1873247/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1866841] Re: Add chrome-gnome-shell to ubuntu-desktop recommends
Support for Shell Extensions was removed from GNOME Software since 3.36 (because it was problematic and hard to maintain). I just checked it in the latest stable Snap Store app and was not able to find any support for Shell Extensions there. So, I see three possible solutions for this issue: 1. Add downstream support for Shell Extensions to GNOME Software / Snap Store on Ubuntu. (That would bring too much work and possible issues, at least in my opinion.) 2. Add AppStream metadata file to the chrome-gnome-shell package that would display the package as Add-on for something (Firefox?) in Snap Store. 3. If a package from main cannot depend on a package from universe, move gnome-shell-extension-prefs to universe and add chrome-gnome-shell to its dependencies. [Bug 1872364] Re: Launchpad translations are not exported back to the snap package
@asciiwolf, this bug report is about the translations that you can see in https://translations.launchpad.net/snap-store They are not being exported from Launchpad so that they are added to the Snap Store snap package. This issue will be resolved soon. Being a snap package, there is no real hard deadline. Therefore, if you can find the message "Permissions" when you search in https://translations.launchpad.net/snap-store then this message has been localized correctly. If, however, you can see a message in Snap Store and cannot find it when you search in https://translations.launchpad.net/snap-store then this could possibly be a message that has not been marked (by accident) as localizable (translatable) by the developers and has not been picked up. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872364 Title: Launchpad translations are not exported back to the snap package To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snap-store/+bug/1872364/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
