[Bug 1871960] Re: package libpam-modules 1.1.8-3.6ubuntu2.18.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: pre-dependency problem - not installing libpam-modules:amd64
This bug was fixed in the package pango1.0 - 1.44.7-2ubuntu4 --- pango1.0 (1.44.7-2ubuntu4) focal; urgency=medium * Backport some Debian changes to try to fix upgrade issues (lp: #1871960) [ Simon McVittie ] * d/shlibs.local: Upgrade all binary packages in lockstep. Like many projects where one source package builds multiple binary packages, Pango has private headers that share non-public interfaces between its binary packages. [Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts
I created a Ubuntu 19.10 VM via "Quick Create..." and still can not reproduce the long delay of > 1 minute: the VM can boot up to the Xorg GUI desktop in 26 seconds. My Windows 10 has the same version info: Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.778). At the grub screen, can you press 'e' and, manually edit the kernel parameter: please remove the "quiet splash $vt_handoff" and add "ignore_loglevel sysrq_always_enabled". You may want to enable the serial console logging by adding the kernel parameter "console=ttyS0", and attach putty (Run as Administrator) to the named pipe \\.\pipe\debug_slow_vm, assuming you configure the VM serial console by "Set-VMComPort -VMName your_vm_name -number 1 -path \\.\pipe\debug_slow_vm"). This way, you should get more messages on the VM serial console when the VM boots up. When you see the long delay, you can press SysRQ+w (i.e. the Right Alt + SysRq + w) to show the blocked processes, if any. This may provide more info about the long delay. BTW, here I assume your have a keyboard that has the SysRq key. :-) It looks systemd can be configured to use "--log-level=debug --default- standard-output=kmsg --default-standard-error=kmsg", which may provide more info as well, if we check 'dmesg' and/or the VM serial console. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1848534 Title: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1848534/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1866556] Re: On-screen keyboard (OSK) on touch screen does not seem to work at all under Xorg in Focal
Yes, I think your definition is correct. This bug is/should be primarily about the virtual keyboard not appearing when using the Xorg session, even though all (ACPI) events for tablet mode are handled properly. It seems to work fine within the Wayland session and it worked fine in Xorg in previous Ubuntu releases. And we have a second issue, which causes similar issues also under Wayland. It happens when 2-in-1 devices don't switch to tablet mode under Ubuntu. This issue was also introduced with GNOME 3.36/Ubuntu 20.04. It would probably be a good idea to open another bug report for each unsupported device, I guess? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1866556 Title: On-screen keyboard (OSK) on touch screen does not seem to work at all under Xorg in Focal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1866556/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1866556] Re: On-screen keyboard (OSK) on touch screen does not seem to work at all under Xorg in Focal
Thanks. So it seems as follows, correct? This here bug report refers only to running under Xorg in Focal, where ... - the OSK does not work at all on the properly supported devices (at least the ones listed), - neither per autosummon nor on demand by swiping, - regardless of a physical keyboard not being available. This is a regression compared to Eoan. However the OSK is working in Focal as expected [1] on Wayland, on supported devices where the physical keyboard gets properly disabled. As far as I know, it is not expected for autosummon to work for KeePassXC etc., but in this case I can summon on demand in Wayland by swiping from bottom of screen. (But can't under Xorg) [1] It seems it is expected that even in Wayland the OSK is only available when the physical keyboard is disabled, according to discussion on this gnome-shell report: "On Screen Keyboard shows up on Wayland despite there is a physical keyboard" https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/2353 The above gnome-shell #2353 is linked from the gnome-shell report that seems to be related to the issue in this here bug, as @esjarc mentioned in the duplicate Bug #1874017, i.e.: "OSK isn't activated without physical keyboard" https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/2378 ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues #2353 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/2353 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1866556 Title: On-screen keyboard (OSK) on touch screen does not seem to work at all under Xorg in Focal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1866556/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1866556] Re: On-screen keyboard (OSK) on touch screen does not seem to work at all under Xorg in Focal
@mario-vukelic I am sorry, I forgot to mention this information in my previous comments. Lenovo ThinkPad L390 Yoga: Keyboard, keyboard backlight and touchpad get disabled HP ENVY x360 15-cp0 and Lenovo ThinkPad X201 Tablet: Keyboard, backlight and touchpad don't get disabled I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't work on the latter two devices because of the unsupported tablet mode. Just tested it again and for some reason it worked on the L390 Yoga now? But it only seems to work in native Wayland applications (gedit, Firefox, Shell are working at the moment; Brave, KeePassXC, VirtualBox aren't). Xwayland and Xorg are still problematic. It is really interesting that it does work on the L390 Yoga now, as it definitely didn't work the last couple of months (not even in the Shell overview) and earlier today ... I will definitely watch this more closely now. Since earlier today I rebooted the L390 Yoga a couple of times. Other than that I haven't changed anything, unattended-upgrades has not even installed updates since yesterday (according to the log files). Hopefully this isn't one of the issues that only happens sporadically ... The other two devices are still unchanged. At least we now have the same symptoms (for now?) on all of the properly supported devices.

[Bug 1874049] [NEW] Gnome-shell block
Public bug reported: I have gnome-shell blocked, when I click on any part of the shell: dock, menu etc ... nothing happens. I can only switch between windows with alt + tab. This is not the first time it happens, it has done so by replicating these steps: Virtual manager with OS started, taken the GNOME screenshot tool on Ubuntu (host), I select the screenshot (select area to be captured) I select a part of the screen on Virtual Manager, at this point the whole shell freezes, becomes non-clickable. I hope the explanation is understandable and helpful to improve Ubuntu. [Bug 1866556] Re: On-screen keyboard (OSK) on touch screen does not seem to work at all under Xorg in Focal
@esjrac, you wrote in the duplicate Bug #1874017 that the issue occurs for you under Wayland as well. Can you repro this also in the tablet mode of the foldable devices that you mentioned there? I am asking because for me this occurs under Wayland only if the devices are laptop mode. In tablet mode, the OSK comes up fine (both auto by touching textfield and when summoned by swiping). I can still repro this (with gnome 3.36.1 on Focal) with foldable devices as described in the OP above, i.e. with: Dell XPS 9575 2-in-1 Asus Zenbook Flip UX561UD However under Xorg the OSK does not come up in tablet mode either -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1866556 Title: On-screen keyboard (OSK) on touch screen does not seem to work at all under Xorg in Focal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1866556/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 1873942] Re: gnome-screenshot takes a screenshot of the wrong screen
Yes, I can confirm the bug happens only on Wayland. Everything works fine under the standard "Ubuntu" session, or the "Gnome on Xorg" session. (I also noticed something strange under the "Ubuntu on Wayland" session, wich might be related: I can screenshot the left dock and sometimes parts the dock and an unfocused window, but never the focused/current/selected window.) [Bug 1873401] Re: xorg lock-up on GPU hotplug
OK, I'm totally sure it's a freeze. Moreover, gnome-shell stack trace looks normal, event loop runs just fine. I can generate and provide core file if needed. What I managed to debug so far, is that in case of multiple /dev/dri/cardX being created frame_cb in meta-stage-x11.c:296 is not called which simply results in the screen being stalled. Debugging it up the stack trace leads to conclusion, that cogl_glib_source_dispatch in cogl-glib-source.c:133 is not called at all for some reason. Natural assumption would be to track that function down, unless there's sth more you can recommend me? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873401 Title: xorg lock-up on GPU hotplug To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1873401/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1870270] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in dri_flush_front_buffer() from intel_flush_front() from intel_glFlush()
May I ask, if this is indeed the 'top gnome-shell crash in 18.04' wouldn't it be good to backport the patch because its still a supported release? The machine is on the latest patch level for 18.04. I don't mind too much because I probably upgrade to 20.04 soon. However, this bug (which only seems to affect one of my machines?) is quite an impediment when needing to switch keyboard layouts. During a normal work day there is a high chance of needing to do a hard reset to get back to normal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1870270 Title: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in dri_flush_front_buffer() from intel_flush_front() from intel_glFlush() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1870270/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1874017] [NEW] On-screen keyboard (OSK) no longer opens with touchscreens (Wayland + Xorg GNOME session) unless enabled in accessibility settings
Public bug reported: Since GNOME 3.35 packages made their way into the focal repositories, the on-screen keyboard no longer opens when touching on input fields or swiping upwards from the bottom edge of the screen. It does not matter if the Wayland or Xorg session is being used. To use the on-screen keyboard, the user has to enable the on-screen keyboard in GNOME's accessibility settings first. Unfortunately this setting causes other issues, since the on-screen keyboard then also opens when the user selects input fields while using a keyboard and a mouse. Everytime the user decides to switch input devices, the accessibility setting has to be toggled. This was not necessary in previous GNOME releases (3.34 and earlier) and shouldn't be necessary. Even though the issue seems to be known already upstream (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/2378), it still harms the touchscreen experience of Ubuntu 20.04 quite significantly. I am affected with three quite different devices, so this bug does not seem to be specific to a single hardware configuration. [Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.
I can confirm that auto-login with the kernel parameters "quiet splash nvidia-drm.modeset=1" works without issues, and that auto-login with just "quiet splash" is still broken for me. This is with a GTX 1080Ti now running nvidia-driver-440. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1845801 Title: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. [Bug 1866556] Re: On-screen keyboard (OSK) on touch screen does not seem to work at all under Xorg in Focal
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1807276 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1807276 Apparently there is already an open upstream issue about this problem, which appeared in GNOME 3.36: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/2378 It makes touchscreens with Ubuntu 20.04 very difficult to use. I don't think this bug is a duplicate of #1807276, since the issue in this bug (#1866556) report didn't occur in previous GNOME releases (3.34 or earlier) and first appeared with the update to GNOME 3.36. I ran the focal daily builds since the release of 19.10 and this issue was not present up to the point, where the GNOME 3.35.* packages appeared in the repositories. The other report seems to be about an issue that also appeared in Ubuntu 18.04 (GNOME 3.28), which is not the case for this particular report. This bug is about the on-screen keyboard not appearing at all, unless you enable it in the accessibility settings. But enabling it in the accessibility settings causes other negative side effects, since the on-screen keyboard then also appears when using a mouse and keyboard until you disable the accessibility setting manually. ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues #2378 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/2378 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1866556 Title: On-screen keyboard (OSK) on touch screen does not seem to work at all under Xorg in Focal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1866556/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
