[Bug 1807056] Re: Occasional Keyboard freeze

2020-04-27 Thread Dilip
@Daniel bug exists in default 20.04 which uses Gnome.

Then I installed Kubuntu Desktop through Synaptic package manager.
Started using Kubuntu through login session option, replacing GDM with
SSDM. In such a case, no keyboard freeze occurs.

In short,

Download the latest Ubuntu 20.04 ISO from Ubuntu.com and do a fresh
install of 20.04, the bug exists.

Thanks for the bug report.

You appear to be using 'dash-to-dock' which is not part of Ubuntu so we
can't support that here.

Please instead report the bug to the developers of your extension at:

[Bug 1875528] [NEW] Extra frozen / stuck mouse cursor after auto screen lock / sleep

2020-04-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Expected:

After my computer had gone to sleep and I log in I should see only a
single active mouse cursor.

What happened instead:

After my computer had gone to sleep and I logged in I noticed a second
frozen/stuck mouse cursor was on screen and was rendered in one place
over any active application windows.

I recently upgraded to 20.04 from 19.10 but the same issue was occurring
in 19.10 as well.

Logging out completely then logging back in again removed the extra
frozen cursor.

Same issue happening to me, was happening on 19.10 and still continues
after upgrading to 20.04 today.

Logging out and back in again resets/hides the extra "dead" cursor, but
it appears again after locking the screen and the monitors go to sleep.

[Bug 1852183]

2020-04-27 Thread Adolfo Jayme
@Larry, no, that’s not how we roll in open source. Our communities
identify problems in each other’s software all the time by forwarding
bugs. In this case the problem was addressed in Mutter five months ago:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/commit/2fbbf657d51f14bdcb75c045637e6ebf4df10063

So the “NOTOURBUG” resolution is correct here.

2020-04-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That reminds me...

Everyone please note something very particular about this bug:

> I can still move the mouse around and can still click on items in the
Activities screen and the top-bar.

If you find you can't click on Activities or the top bar then this is
NOT the right bug for you. In that case your gnome-shell process has
actually crashed or frozen. So please use the link in comment #144 or
just open a new bug by running:

[Bug 1875488] Re: Entire system freezes when Chrome freezes when I try to quit the app by clicking on the X button, resulting in an unresponsive machine.

2020-04-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

I just noticed that this problem only occurs on my laptop screen

not happen. I guess this bug is related to screen resolution.

Re: [Bug 1852183]

2020-04-27 Thread ethanay
But you are not a consumer, and this is free (libre) open-source software,
not something you bought. It is something you participate in. "Won't fix"
doesn't necessarily mean that they aren't going to participate in or assist
a solution, it means that the ultimate responsibility lies with the
upstream maintainer of the package.

In your analogy, toyota would pass the info (and offer support to) the
company that makes the defective part. Either that company comes through or
they end up needimg to select a different part (or package) from a
different company. It is a process that requires patience and good faith
coordination.

There are good reasons for this. Not just to avoid duplication of effort,
but also to avoid unnecessarily creating confusion, fragmentation, new
problems or even messing up the upstream efforts to solve the issue.

So from a fellow FLOSS end user (who unfortunately has few skills to offer
except bug reporting), I feel that your attitude is far more interesting to
examen.

Toward an open source world,

Ethan

> Indeed, NOTOURBUG.

Interesting attitude. If you buy a Toyota and the engine goes bad, do
you expect Toyota to say, "Sorry, not our problem, they sold us bad
engines." Your name is on the product. The product is broken. As a
consumer, I look to you to fix it, not some nefarious mix of different
manufacturers (each maker of an OS, in this case). Seems like it would
be in the best interest of the Document Foundation to at least work with
Linux, Windows and Mac developers to find an overarching solution, or
separate solutions, for this problem. You simply cannot have a viable
product by taking a flyer on these kinds of issues, essentially saying
"tough luck, it's not our problem" to the end user. Again, it's your
name on the product, and the end user could care less what environment
he is in, all he knows that YOUR product is busted. Just my two cents.

[Bug 1875445] Re: Volume slider doesn't produce sound

2020-04-27 Thread David
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected focal

** Description changed:

  Hello,
  In Ubuntu 20.04:
After system boot there is sound and when I adjust volume with the slide (top
right corner of the screen) it produces default sound. About 10 minutes (may be
related to loading of certain s/w) later during the same session the slider
stops producing sound when I adjust volume. System sound is still present. I
also noticed that in Settings->Sound two more entries appear in "Volume
levels": 1. Speech-dispatcher-dummy; 2. Speech-dispatcher-espeak-ng. These two
entries are not present there right after system boot when everything works
fine. I also see these errors in Logs: "sof-audio-pci :00:1f.3: error: no
reply expected, received 0x0".
  This bug is reproducible.

Thanks for the video, the problems you mention come from nautilus

The desktop limitations you mention are known, also down to nautilus upstream

@roland, you report the bug against xorg and apport collected the logs
for that package, the bug got reassign to another component so the
purpose of using the command again was to send the log for the new
component, closing though according to your request

[Bug 1875445] [NEW] Volume slider doesn't produce sound

2020-04-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello,
In Ubuntu 20.04:

2020-04-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report, gnome-vfs hasn't been used by nautilus
for over 10 years so your added files should make a difference.

Could you get a debug log as explained on
https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/gvfs/debugging ? Using the
GVFS_SMB_DEBUG=10 argument (review the log to filter private
informations before submitting)

Does connecting to that share using
$ smbclient //192.168.1.1/USB1
works?

[Bug 1875354] [NEW] No more smb access after migration to UBUNTU 20.04 from UBUNTU 19.10

2020-04-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello everyone,
I no longer have access to my devices (NAS and other pcs - windows) from
Nautilus. The command smb://IP address doesn't work anymore since the upgrade.
some tests :
1

I tried to change the parameter "client max protocol = NT1" in client max
protocol = NT1 since my NAS is still in smb1 version. But without change, I
can't navigate the network using smb, but I can do it with AFP.
2
I don't know if this will be useful but I also added
"/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gnome-vfs-2.0/moduleslibsmb.so" and modified
"/etc/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/extra-modules.conf" to account for smb in nautilus.
I can browse the Windows network again, but I can't access my files, just the
share folder.
gio mount smb://192.168.1.1/USB1
gio: smb://192.168.1.1/usb1/: Impossible de monter le partage Windows :
Argument invalide

To get around the problem I went through an fstab mount, it works but it's less
convenient and the login is slower (especially after the NAS goes to sleep).
Hopefully someone will be able to help me.
Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1875125] Re: moving files from desktop to a nautilus window does nothing

2020-04-27 Thread dundir
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1813441 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1813441

@Sebastien, thank you for pointing out the bug was a duplicate. I've
posted my workaround in the linked bug since the workaround I found is
better than the current workaround.

Additionally, I really don't have the words to describe my disbelief
that this regression actually made it into an LTS release. Its been a
known issue for longer than a year before the release; and a problem in
19.04, 19.10, and now 20.04 LTS.

Most desktop users will immediately feel the pain of being unable to
drag and drop, delete files or other inconveniences which will add up
cumulatively every time they want to do something up until they find a
solution, or decide its not worth it and go with another distro.

Following the commonly indexed posts on google they'll immediately get
stuck when gsettings for disabling desktop icons fails since launchpad
isn't indexed.

I like some of the changes in 20.04 but properly working desktop icons
has been a required productivity expectation in any OS that's been
around since the 90s regardless of what some people think.

[Bug 1874972] Re: Nautilus search in file names shows results from full text search

2020-04-27 Thread Andreas Tsourouflis
I attach the requested screenshots. I performed a search for the word
"dictation". I have no file that contains "dictation" in the name file.
The first screenshot shows the results from a full text search. Everything is
as it should be

The second screenshot shows the results for the same search, but only in
file name.

[Bug 1813441] Re: Can no longer drag and drop files between desktop and applications

2020-04-27 Thread dundir
I didn't realize my bug was a duplicate
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875125).

This is a big issue for desktop users, I almost rolled back immediately.
I'll still be rolling back due to other bugs I've found since Friday, but in
the meantime I did find a slightly better way of working around the issue for
20.04 which I had posted in my bug post. I'll repost it here:

In /usr/share/gnome-shell/modes/ there is a json file ubuntu.json. It
has a list of enabled extensions one of which is the desktop-icons
extension. It looks like this:

{
"parentMode": "user",
"stylesheetName": "Yaru/gnome-shell.css",
"themeResourceName": "theme/Yaru/gnome-shell-theme.gresource",
"debugFlags": ["backtrace-crashes-all"],
"enabledExtensions": ["ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com",
"ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com", "desktop-icons@csoriano"]
}

Editing ubuntu.json and removing the entry and extra comma for desktop-
icons, disables the extension from a single point. After that working
around the issue using nemo provides desktop icons, delete hotkeys, and
drag/drop functionality that was previously non-functional.

It was fixed for me. I re-installed Ubuntu afresh though. Keeping my
$HOME.
