[Bug 1876946] Re: gnome-shell freezing with "Attempting to run a JS callback during garbage collection." messages

2020-05-05 Thread Kai Groner

gnome-shell

When I enter and leave the activities screen, CPU time spikes to about
30%. At idle it runs between 3% and 13%.

Cumulative CPU time is over 8-10h.

I don't have any record of the resource usage when it was freezing, but
I will try to grab that if it happens again. This probably wasn't a low
memory situation as the machine had just booted and I had wasn't able to
run anything more than a terminal before I gave up and rebooted.

[Bug 1876946] Re: gnome-shell freezing with "Attempting to run a JS callback during garbage collection." messages

2020-05-05 Thread Kai Groner
In logs I have going back 6 months the errors "Attempting to run a JS
callback during garbage collection." and "The offending callback was
..." only appear on one other date.

There is a similar message "Attempting to call back into JSAPI during
the sweeping phase of GC." that appears more frequently.

I think it will be hard to get good timing data when the console is
freezing and unresponsive and I'm not sure when the issue might re-
occur.

I'm attaching the log from this session, as well as the log from my
current session for comparison.

[Bug 1876937] Re: Dock location reversed in RTL

2020-05-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Project changed: gnome-control-center => ubuntu

** No longer affects: ubuntu

** Also affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Low

** Description changed:

- Please take a look at the following bug I've opened in the GNOME bug tracker:
+ he dock location is horizontally reversed, selecting left puts the dock
+ to the right and vice versa.

- I wasn't sure if it's Ubuntu related or GNOME only, please assist me
- with determining it.
+ Steps to reproduce (Ubuntu 20.04):
+
+ 1. Switch to an RTL language of your choice
+
+ 2. Open GNOME Settings
+
+ 3. Observe the Appearance icon (The default dock location is to the
+ right while the icon shows as if it's to the left)
+
+ 4. The selection says "Left" (שמאל in Hebrew) yet the dock is aligned to
+ the right, selecting the opposite option moves the dock to the left
+ although I selected "Right" (ימין in Hebrew).

[Bug 1877018] [NEW] Copy and Paste does not paste a clean path anymore

2020-05-05 Thread Leandro Heck
Public bug reported:

Since Ubuntu 19.04, 19.10 and now 20.04 the copy-and-paste is not
working properly.

WHAT I WANT TO DO:

Copy a file/folder with Ctrl+C (in nautilus) then paste the path into
the terminal/text file. This was the nicest and most-used feature. I use
that all the time. Now since some time ago, it does not work anymore.

WHAT HAPPENS:

The text being pasted has some extra info in front of the path.

EXAMPLE:

Ctrl+C with the ~/Downloads folder focused should yeild the path

/home/lheck/Downloads

Now, it gives me this:

x-special/nautilus-clipboard
copy
file:///home/lheck/Downloads

This text is useless when pasted. This is a regression, please, fix this, it is
still broken during 3 Ubuntu releases!!

[Bug 1876946] Re: gnome-shell freezing with "Attempting to run a JS callback during garbage collection." messages

2020-05-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That log message is actually pretty common and probably not related to
any freezes. To confirm this please open a Terminal window and start
monitoring the log:

  journalctl -f

Now please check to see if the messages correlate closely with the
freezes. And tell us if any of them appear when the freeze is *not*
happening.

[Bug 1876125] Re: SRU the current 3.36.2 stable update

2020-05-05 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Sebastien, or anyone else affected,

Accepted evolution-data-server into focal-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/evolution-data-server/3.36.2-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1873424] Re: 3.36.2 update include fix for custom loaders

2020-05-05 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Marian, or anyone else affected,

Accepted eog into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eog/3.36.2-0ubuntu1 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

2020-05-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
You're right that it's important to note this is NOT a fractional
scaling bug.

I was only talking about root causes. That other bug is also caused by
mutter setting an invalid framebuffer size that's larger than the
physical monitor.

[Bug 1876286] Re: Evolution reports "Error performing TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation."

2020-05-05 Thread Rod Rivers
Joe,

Thanks for the info! I made some progress on this today. Evidently Evolution
uses GnuTLS to communicate with the pop server. If you run the following
commands on a terminal you should get plenty of output that will allow you to
decode the encrypted packets:
export GNUTLS_DEBUG_LEVEL=99
evolution

It looks like the handshake has just finished and the pop server is returning
its first message:
  Post Office Protocol
  +OK Hello from jpop-0.1\r\n
  Response indicator: +OK
  Response description: Hello from jpop-0.1

I have attached the pcap, debug output and keys.

Unfortunately, there's no other option than doing this or you'd loose
the direct rendering performances, so this is an expected behavior.

What we could do is to be smarter at picking the scaling value for the
monitor. And I've already started some work for this.

[Bug 1873052] Re: GNOME 3.36 Lands Scaled/Transformed Hardware Cursors Support and keeps another not scaled cursor mid screen

2020-05-05 Thread Ryan Thompson
For anyone else affected by this bug, I've written a script that toggles
the scaling mode back and forth to fix the problem and then restore your
desired scaling mode on each monitor.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/+bug/1875404/+attachment/5361667/+files/xrandr-fix.sh

Just set that script to run at login (e.g. by adding it to Startup
Applications). Your screen will flicker momentarily on login, since the
script is changing resolutions, but then the extra mouse cursor will be
gone automatically.

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-05-05 Thread James Joseph
Also affected by this bug, running vanilla 20.04 with Nvidia standard
drivers

Nvidia version: 440.64

When turning on fractional scaling it defaults to 200% and zooms in on the
screen and I can't change it down to 125% or 150% at all.

My work around for now is just to use 1440p rather then 4k resolution.
Would be great to have this fixed in the future but it's not massively
impairing me.

[Bug 1876946] [NEW] gnome-shell freezing with "Attempting to run a JS callback during garbage collection." messages

2020-05-05 Thread Kai Groner
Public bug reported:

This happened soon after logging in. The entire desktop (mouse cursor
included) would freeze for maybe 30 seconds at a time. The activities
screen seemed to trigger it. The dock appeared empty.

After a few minutes of this I rebooted and things seem to be alright
now.

Relevant log messages start on May 5 at 11:10 AM US/Eastern time.

Similar messages appear on March 31st. I don't recall whether I
experienced similar freezing behavior at that time.

[Bug 1825679] [NEW] Delay/freeze/cpu spike when using the function/media/brightness keys in Xorg

2020-05-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

There is a long time bug when the user press any function key or media
key om Gnome, the CPU spikes to 100%, the system freezes for some
seconds and then the key is pressed. This is particularly true when
change the screen brightness. This only happens in Xorg, Wayland is not
affected.

On Brazilian keyboard a workaround is to edit the file
`/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/br` and comment the line `modifier_map Mod3
{ Scroll_Lock };`

This has been affecting multiple users and has been discussed on

[Bug 1876681] Re: gnome-shell crashes on boot

2020-05-05 Thread Dave Goldsbrough
As requested, all extensions quoted uninstalled and all fine. Still
fine after a number of reboots.

Decided to re-install each extension one by one.

Tried 'bingwallpa...@ineffable-gmail.com' first and once more a similar crash
and as before system was still usable. Uninstalled once more and system was
fine once more.

I then proceeded to reinstall these extensions in this sequence, each
time followed by shutdown and reboot. All, no problems.

 'dash-to-pa...@jderose9.github.com',
  'clipboard-indica...@tudmotu.com',
  'applications-overview-tooltip@RaphaelRochet'

I have decided I can Live without the others and could even live without
the successful ones if necessary.

If I should be reporting these extension bugs elsewhere, particularly
the BingWallpaper one then please advise.

Happy for this reported bug to be zapped!

[Bug 1876884] Re: Unable to enable screen sharing after upgrade to 20.04

2020-05-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Ok, so the issue is

$ nmcli d status
DEVICE TYPE STATE CONNECTION

It looks like network-manager isn't handling the network, I'm going to
reassigning to netplan since you are using it to apply the configuration

Could you also add the 'journalctl -b 0' from a session having the
issue? it might help giving some clue why network-manager is bailing out
of handling the connection

[Bug 1876914] [NEW] Update to 1.64.2 and SRU it

2020-05-05 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]

That's the current GNOME stable update, including some fixes and translation
updates
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gjs/-/tags/1.64.2

[ Test case ]

The update is part of GNOME stable updates
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

GNOME Shell and its components should continue working, as well other
gjs based apps like polari

* Regression potential

Update fixed various memory leaks, and the critical ones are included in
the test suite, so ideally there should not be problems.

The ubuntu-dock must still work properly (as a change affected a class
there)

[Bug 1876908] [NEW] Screen not locked after resume from suspend

2020-05-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Whenever I suspend my laptop, and then resume, I get directly to the
gnome-shell desktop without having to log in.

This used to work perfectly before the upgrade to 20.04.

For information, I'm using pure gnome-shell, not Unity, in case that
matters.

Changing to "SystemAccount=true" is indeed a way (workaround) to hide a
user from the login screen when using lightdm + accountsservice. Only
configuring lightdm is not sufficient due to accountsservice.

Apparently it lead to it being hidden at more places. :)

warning indicates that n-m belives that the wifi can't be trusted and is

** Description changed:

After upgrading ubuntu desktop from 19.10 to 20.04, it's impossible to enable
screen sharing.
It used to work fine on 19.10.

When clicking the enable/disable toggle, the following message is logged
  in journalctl:

  Failed to enable service vino-server:
  GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Sharing cannot be
enabled on this network, status is '0'

This is reproducible on both computers I've upgraded. They're both on
the latest 20.04 package updates as of today.

I've done some research to rule out common faults:

  $ cat /etc/netplan/01-network-manager-all.yaml

[Bug 1849942] Re: 19.10 Gnome Settings and Tweak Tools Window Bar Bug

2020-05-05 Thread John Smith
I too have this behaviour, making gnome-tweaks very hard to use. I have
had it for some months, presumably since installing 19.10. It is still
there in 20.04. Could something be done to fix it?

[Bug 1876894] [NEW] Scaling is not reverted properly (appears shrunk) when disabling fractional scaling

2020-05-05 Thread Iain Lane
Public bug reported:

Do this in an Ubuntu/Xorg session:

0. Be on a "clean" system wrt. fractional scaling, i.e. disabled & scaling at
100%
1. Open gnome-control-center → displays
2. Turn on fractional scaling
3. Select 125%
4. Press apply (the scaling should correctly change now)
5. Turn off fractional scaling by changing the toggle

Now everything is shrunk - it's not been returned to 100% properly. See
the attached screenshot where the text is tiny instead of regular 100%
size. If you do this instead of step 5:

5. Select 100% scaling
7. Press apply
8. Turn off fractional scaling by changing the toggle

Then everything returns to the normal size.

I'm on nvidia(-440), but Séb said that he saw this on his Intel machine
too.
