[Bug 1878490] Re: Big delay between pressing the applications grid icon in dock and the start of the spring animation

2020-05-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please start with uninstalling these extensions:

'extendedgestu...@mpiannucci.github.com',
'gsconn...@andyholmes.github.io',
'user-th...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'gamem...@christian.kellner.me',
'cast-to-tv-desktop-ad...@rafostar.github.com',
'dark-theme-swi...@sorrow.about.alice.pm.me',
'native-window-placement',
'pop-sh...@system76.com',
'places-m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com'

then reboot and tell us if the problem still occurs. We need to try
without extensions as a first step because so many bugs are caused by
extensions.

[Bug 1878442] Re: settings menu doesn't open and goes into the login menu

2020-05-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please run the command from comment #1, but also...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

The workspace sliding and the overview closing are separate animations
that can occur in parallel. I think you're just seeing a mixture of them
when you close the overview mid-animation.

[Bug 1878515] [NEW] Encoding issue when translating locale modifiers

2020-05-13 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

When gettext translate locale modifiers, the output encoding is not set
to UTF-8, so non-ascii letters are replaced with question marks. A fix
has been committed upstream, and the proposed fix cherry picks that
commit.

[Test Case]

* Install the Serbian language, switch to Serbian — Latin, and relogin

* Open Settings -> Region & Language and find that the current language
is not labeled correctly

* Upgrade libgnome-desktop-3-19 and friends from focal-proposed

* Open Settings -> Region & Language and find that the current language
label is now correct

[Regression Potential]

Negligible

[Bug 1878288] Re: wifi settings doesnt launch

2020-05-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report, could you start
$ journalctl -f
trigger the bug and see what is printed in the journal log?

Could you also try starting 'gnome-control-center' and see if that hits
the same issue?

[Bug 1878490] [NEW] Big delay between pressing the applications grid icon in dock and the start of the spring animation

2020-05-13 Thread Nicolás Abel Carbone
Public bug reported:

I am sorry if this is already reported elsewhere, I couldn't find it.

Sometimes there is a big delay between clicking in the applications grid icon
and the start of the spring animation. In the worst cases, this delay can be
close to 2 seconds.
Usually, after this first delay, subsequent clicks on the grid icon show little
to no delay.

I am running Ubuntu 20.04 with default extensions on a Dell XPS 13 9360.

[Bug 1878392] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa desktop launchers not working

2020-05-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read 'How to report bugs effectively'
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Bug 1878275] Re: wayland session hard freezes on login from GDM (X11 session works fine)

2020-05-13 Thread John Jacob
Here are steps to reproduce the issue. Confirmed on a fresh Ubuntu 20.04
install in a VM.

sudo apt install keychain
mkdir ~/.ssh
cd ~/.ssh
ssh-keygen -t rsa -b 4096 -C "user@domain"
 # -- Enter a passphrase when asked.
vi ~/.bash_profile
 # -- Add the following text. Replace "user" with the actual user name.
 #!/bin/bash
 set autologout=0
 # Setup password-less SSH
 [ -z "$HOSTNAME" ] && HOSTNAME=`uname -n`
 keychain /home/user/.ssh/id_rsa
 source /home/user/.keychain/${HOSTNAME}-sh

Reboot. On the login screen, click on the user, then select "Ubuntu on Wayland"
in the Gear icon.
Enter password and login.

Result: login screen hangs indefinitely.

[Bug 1878275] Re: wayland session hard freezes on login from GDM (X11 session works fine)

2020-05-13 Thread John Jacob
Hi Daniel,

Thank you for taking a look at my bug report.
1. There are no crash files in /var/crash.
2.
https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/27232d1c0322b0e12fbced3d5cc680848662bdab3723e8c5a2ef4f4994f0f37d64c8663e929ae708ddbfce7b00cf9529860901cc62597a8b0b414d4b29fc9792
has three problems reported, but none of them correspond to this issue.

I actually do not think there is a crash, rather that some part of the
session is waiting for me to enter the keychain passphrase in a way that
is hanging the GUI.

I verified that if I SSH in from another machine, and enter the
passphrase in the SSH session *before* I login from the GDM login
screen, everything works fine.

Let me know what other steps you would like me to take.

2020-05-13 Thread pqwoerituytrueiwoq
Xubuntu XFWM4 Greybird-dark
i edited /usr/share/themes/Greybird-dark/xfwm4/themerc
added this line:
show_app_icon=true

You can see the issue in the screenshot in the top left, this affected
every theme that shows the icon for the menu

This also affects notifications (song change/hit play)

[Bug 1878423] [NEW] Problem with the Dock setting of "Show on" uses all Monitors instead one

2020-05-13 Thread David
Public bug reported:

I use a Laptop with 2 external monitors.

When I first entered the Appearance tab in the settings, it was set to
Built-in display and the Dock was shown only on the Built-in display as
expected.

I messed around with the setting and tried out on "All displays". No I'd like
to switch back to only Built-in display or an other external monitor.
When i choose an external it automatically switches back to "All displays".

If i choose "Built-in display" it stays there, but nothing is changed.
After switching to an other settings tab and back it's again on "All
displays".

I can't set it to anything else then "All displays" now and I'm stuck
here and can't change it at all.

This appears to happen with Ubuntu 20.04.

[Bug 1874217] Re: [nvidia] Dual monitor setup with secondary monitor in portrait-right mode cause tiled windows to occupy 1.5 monitors

2020-05-13 Thread Chris Seager
Another "me-too" I'm afraid. Screens were fine under 19.10, upgraded to 20.04
yesterday and also have 2 screens (left 32" landscape, right 22" portrait). The
left screen extends over 90% of the right screen. As above it appears as a
large virtual screen with a viewport scrolling inside it.
Fractional Scaling off, GPU GT730 Nvidia driver.

[Bug 1878392] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa desktop launchers not working

2020-05-13 Thread Tom F
Public bug reported:

Using the procedure here =
https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-create-desktop-shortcut-launcher-on-ubuntu-20-04-focal-fossa-linux

AND OTHERWISE

I have successfully created launchable desktop app shortcuts. But they
stop working: (1) no launch; (2) no right click context to make
launchable; and (3) no app icon. They can even remain in ~/Desktop but
disappear from the desktop view. A logout kills them. Creating another
new launcher is successful and peculiarly triggers the temporary
reactivation of all the others. But euphoria soon dies as they all
revert to inertia later.

My work around at present is to install PCManFM 1.3.1. Navigating to
~/Desktop on PCManFM, my Nautilus created launchers are all visible,
launchable and have the usual colourful app icon features. But they
remain inert in Nautilus.

My Gnome version is: 3.36.1

[Bug 1759462] Re: Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04

Just to be clear about the comment I wrote above, the solution is not
really related to Skype, its probably just the fact that something new
is loading up on log in and removing it will (hopefully) solve the
issue.

[Bug 1759462] Re: Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04

2020-05-13 Thread Nimrod Ben-Nes
Had issues with keyboard shortcuts for changing language, up/down
volume, open terminal and so on...

First I tried comment #55 and logged out and back in, it didn't help.

I went to try comment #11 (sleep solution) but then I remembered that
few days ago I installed Skype and it was auto starting when I logged in
and maybe cause of that the "timing went off", so instead of setting the
sleep I just removed Skype from the auto start and restarted... and it
worked!

2020-05-13 Thread Per-Inge
I installed the gnome related components from proposed, but this isn't on a
standard installation I'm using the oibaf ppa (4.6 Mesa 20.2.0-devel
(git-d510974 2020-05-06 focal-oibaf-ppa) and kernel 5.6.7-050607-generic
x86_64. After the update the Gnome desktop is Gnome 3.36.2.
This problem doesn't happen often, but I will use this configuration for
some time. Alternatively I also use a system on other hardware with Groovy
Gorilla. This system don't have any kernel or graphic driver changes.

[Bug 1874217] Re: [nvidia] Dual monitor setup with secondary monitor in portrait-right mode cause tiled windows to occupy 1.5 monitors

2020-05-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I would like to figure out if this is caused by the dormant fractional
scaling patch, even while it's unused. Unfortunately I can't right now
because I hit bug 1874567 instead.

[Bug 1824874] Re: undismissable, unclickable authentication dialog left on screen (top-left corner) after policykit authentication [pushModal: invocation of begin_modal failed]

2020-05-13 Thread Uygar Demir Koç
I am having the same problem. A few days ago I upgraded my computer from Ubuntu
19.10 to 20.04. Normally I was starting the MySql server manually. It started
working automatically with the update.
When I put the computer to sleep mode and turn it back on, the authentication
window for the MySql server is opening at the upper left corner and is not
closing in any way.
The thing that catches my attention here is that when I click on the window
that does not close, the application under the window detects the click.
However, the cancel button and the password text box is not performing their
functions even though they sense the clicks correctly.
Notice: Restarting the shell closes the window.

[Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values

2020-05-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Nvidia driver support for the Ubuntu fractional scaling patch is
somewhat random at the moment. And I don't mean to blame Nvidia, it's
probably something we did wrong. Just saying various Nvidia users
experience different issues:

  * Screen turns off (bug 1873403)
  * Screen stays on but jumps to 200% (bug 1870736)
  * Fractional scaling works correctly.

As for remembering the settings, that's another separate issue (bug
1825593).

[Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values

2020-05-13 Thread Ryan Hadley
Ive just tried this again this morning

1. 2560 x 1440
2. 3840 x 2160
3. 1920 x 1200

I set fractional scaling to 1.50 on screen 2 (Others 100%)

For the session it works perfectly fine, But after logging out and
logging back in the settings do not get saved (Nvidia gtx 1080 with 440
driver)

This was not working before, So I assume some updates have been made in
this area?

That is bug 1867668, not this one.

But good point! Because many Nvidia owners are actually using a hybrid
machine where the Intel GPU is wired to the screen, not the Nvidia GPU.
In such a case bug 1867668 is what you should be subscribed to, not this

[Bug 1872527] Re: Clipboard doesn't work 100% of the time in Ubuntu 20.04 (in KVM guests)

2020-05-13 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
There are plenty of components involved in "trying" to fix this by spice
upstream.
The discussion in
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/spice/linux/vd_agent/-/issues/9
is rather long.
It eventually seems to be fixed in
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/spice/linux/vd_agent/-/merge_requests/4
I think we have all components in place, except the spice-vdagent 0.20 and
maybe spice-protocol 14.1.

The series of fixes for spcie-vdagent linked there would be:
  e0bfa67 configure: bump gtk+ >= 3.22
  2c72378 clipboard: remove vdagent-selection-id usage
  79d0125 configure: depend on gobject
  ff30f58 configure: bump gobject >= 2.50
  fb69a49 vdagent: use G_OPTION_FLAG_NONE
  aa26d1d clipboard: gobject-ify VDAgentClipboards
2ad6c15 clipboard: filter out only our own events
c9e8067 clipboard: only send release when no immediate grab
  a2fc33c clipboard: implement CAP_CLIPBOARD_GRAB_SERIAL
>From https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/spice/linux/vd_agent.git

Our libglib2.0-dev and libgtk-3-dev are new enough as well.
But spice-protocol needs:
045a6978 vdagent: introduce VD_AGENT_CAP_CLIPBOARD_GRAB_SERIAL
4f397d69 vdagent: introduce VD_AGENT_CAP_CLIPBOARD_NO_RELEASE_ON_REGRAB
That is in 0.14.1 which only is in Ubuntu 20.10 already, but not in Focal (14.0
there).

I'd expect that 0.20 would not even build without spice-protocol 0.14.1 since
the definition of VD_AGENT_CAP_CLIPBOARD_GRAB_SERIAL is missing. Well it might
skip it safely.
But the report of lwk32 says building 0.20 is fixing his issue, so let us give
it a try.

We cant take:
  a2fc33c clipboard: implement CAP_CLIPBOARD_GRAB_SERIAL
c9e8067 clipboard: only send release when no immediate grab
without this change to spice-protocol which is hard to SRU. The rest of the
patches applies cleanly, but I'm unsure if there can be any gain without these
final commits.

@lwk32 would you mind giving the PPA [1] a try with an otherwise
unmodified Ubuntu 20.04 if that fixes the issue for you as well?

P.S. We might want to wait until the more clear fix in bug 1852183 lands
to not mix results of verifications of -proposed - but we can sniff
things right now based on the PPA.
