[Bug 1753525] Re: Wacom tablet not recognized in Settings > Devices

2020-07-15 Thread e-fernbach
on Jul 16 2020 I still have the same problem. The pad is perfectly recognized
when using terminal commands but not detected in the device dialog under
settings>devices>Wacom Tablet. When I hit Test your settings I can input but
have to use high pressure. I did install the most recent drivers from source
following this link https://linuxwacom.github.io/ , installing input wacom from
source and building the Xdriver. Installing input wacom went without error
messages and installing the Xdriver gave the message that the installed driver
is already the newest one. When I try to use the tablet with Xournal it
sometimes works and sometime doesn't rebooting usually fixes the "not working".
"Not working" symptoms are: when drawing a line it gets interrupted, the
pressure has to be extremely high, the cursor jumps around wildly, switching
between eraser and pen is not controllable, the cursor can not be mapped to a
specific monitor. I am on Ubuntu 18.04.3 The tablet is a Wacom Intuos BT S The
output from xsetwacom --get "Wacom Co.,Ltd. Intuos BT S stylus" all is:

[Bug 1887719] Re: gnome-shell memory leak

2020-07-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The calendar server leak is being tracked in bug 1885346. So this bug is
now just about the gnome-shell issue.

** Description changed:

- This is bug is also related to packages gnome-shell-calendar-server and
evolution-calendar-factory.
- For some reason either gnome-shell or the previous two packages can use
gigabytes of memory.

  I've left my computer running overnight, with all applications closed, just
to come back next morning and find my desktop session frozen, and having to

  I've found other bugs, like #1856838 but that one focuses on opening the
  overwiev, which after opening and closing dozens of times, my memory
  doesn't increase. Also, #1882781 which is marked as a duplicate of the

[Bug 1887718] Re: Xorg freeze

2020-07-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If the cursor still works then that's Xorg which is still working and
only gnome-shell has frozen or crashed, so...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1887514] Re: Some desktop files don't open with double click or Enter

2020-07-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Based on comment #2, this appears to not be a bug. The mode 777
(rwxrwxrwx) specifies that the files were executables so should be
executed on double-click and not "opened" with any app.

Please log a new bug for your remaining issue.

[Bug 1887718] [NEW] Screen freeze

2020-07-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Freezes randomly without any traceable pattern. Windows become unresponsive
while the cursor works.
To unfreeze I have to press the OFF button of my HP ProBook and then click on
"Cancel" in the shutdown dialogue. That unfreezes the windows. May happen
several times per session, may not happen at all.

[Bug 1879417] Re: with default font, empty lines have different height to non-empty lines

2020-07-15 Thread Harm van Bakel
There is a similar issue in e.g. gnome calculator. When typing a
character after starting a new instance the input box will change size.
This only seems to happen with certain combinations of fonts and sizes.
Wonder if it may be linked to hidpi scaling, though haven't been able to
check if the same issue occurs on standard screens.

[Bug 1887719] [NEW] gnome-shell memory leak

2020-07-15 Thread Felipe Castillo
Public bug reported:

This is bug is also related to packages gnome-shell-calendar-server and
evolution-calendar-factory.
For some reason either gnome-shell or the previous two packages can use
gigabytes of memory.
I've left my computer running overnight, with all applications closed, just to
come back next morning and find my desktop session frozen, and having to kill
on of the previously mentioned processes to get back my machine.

I've found other bugs, like #1856838 but that one focuses on opening the
overwiev, which after opening and closing dozens of times, my memory
doesn't increase. Also, #1882781 which is marked as a duplicate of the
previous bug.

[Bug 1887707] [NEW] Disabling fractional scaling after selecting another integer scaling may unselect user choice

2020-07-15 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]

If selecting another integer scaling after disabling fractional scaling

[ Test case ]

When running Ubuntu session under X11, in gnome-control-center, display panel:
 - Ensure 100% scaling is selected and applied
 - Enable fractional scaling
 - Select 200% scaling (or bigger integer scaling)
   - Green "Apply" button should be visible and clickable
 - Deactivate fractional scaling
   - Green "Apply" button stays and fractional scaling isn't disabled until
applied

Repeat with inverted scaling orders (applying 200% and then selecting
100%)

Currently, once another integer value is selected, we just deselect the
user choice and restore the previous one, deactivating the fractional
scaling promtply.

[ Regression potential ]

- Displays are wrongly disposed and configured when fractional scaling is
enabled
- Configurations are not applicable.

[Bug 1887529] Re: gnome-calendar crashes after updating nextcloud calendar

2020-07-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher

[Bug 1887652] [NEW] wayland not available with proprietary nvidia drivers

2020-07-15 Thread Ian Johnson
Public bug reported:

With Ubuntu 20.04, GDM 3.34.1 (bundled with Focal), and the proprietary
NVIDIA drivers, I am unable to use Wayland to login, and can only use
XOrg. Debugging this a little, I found that wayland support is wholesale
disabled when proprietary NVIDIA drivers are used by this rule:
/lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules (coming from the gdm3 package), however
it seems there may be more to this as well in upstream so this seems to
affect mutter as well.

To be clear, my system only has NVIDIA graphics, I do not also have an
Intel integrated GPU, so this is not a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1862531.

[Bug 1887652] Re: wayland not available with proprietary nvidia drivers

2020-07-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Enabling Wayland support with the NVIDIA proprietary driver

This is not something we recommend due to a number of bugs. But if you
want to try it out then a new step is required in 19.10:

 1. Add kernel parameter nvidia-drm.modeset=1

 2. Comment out the nvidia line in /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules

 3. As step 2 may have reintroduced an old bug you might need to disable
the integrated graphics/GPU in your BIOS.

[Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape

2020-07-15 Thread Phil Hudson
Found in a post on Reddit, a workaround that worked for me via GUI. Even
though this is still a bug I wanted to help this workaround get more
exposure.

```
Just installed 20.04. Same issue. But i have a workaround that doesn't involve
manual settings with xrandr.
If i set them so that all monitors align at the bottom, it works as
expected. This makes for a bit of wonky cursor movement screen-to-
screen, but it's usable for now until it gets fixed.
Something about the nvdidia driver seems to not be able to map the
position to any other configuration. It does not work if for me if I
align them all at the top, only with them all aligned at the bottom.
