[Bug 1890896] Re: Brasero crash when burning
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: brasero (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to brasero in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890896 Title: Brasero crash when burning To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/1890896/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I'm not sure we do need a backtrace now. libffi is used everywhere in gnome-shell/gjs for calls between C and JavaScript. Re: [Bug 1893032] Re: groovy gnome-shell crashes so gdm is black screen with cursor
I checked /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions and I don't have any extensions there (apt purge gnome-shell-extensions*). I also tried moving the folder ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions to .. and gnome-shell in gdm3 still won't start (just in case gdm3's gnome-shell actually uses that folder). I can't login to gnome-shell since gdm3 doesn't show the login screen since gnome-shell in gdm3 doesn't start. I also tried debsums to check for corrupted files, and found none related to gnome-shell. I'm planning to reinstall all gnome-shell related packages to see if that fixes it. Thank you for your help. [Bug 1892915] Re: gnome-shell crashing (libffi8ubuntu1 upgrade issue)
I see that the libffi transition in -proposed is as-yet incomplete. So one possible explanation for the crash would be if pointers to libffi objects are being passed between other libraries that are linked to different versions of libffi, resulting in a crash. #if defined (X86_64) || defined(X86_WIN64) \ || (defined (__x86_64__) && defined (X86_DARWIN)) -# define FFI_TRAMPOLINE_SIZE 24 +/* 4 bytes of ENDBR64 + 7 bytes of LEA + 6 bytes of JMP + 7 bytes of NOP + + 8 bytes of pointer. */ +# define FFI_TRAMPOLINE_SIZE 32 # define FFI_NATIVE_RAW_API 0 #else -# define FFI_TRAMPOLINE_SIZE 12 +/* 4 bytes of ENDBR32 + 5 bytes of MOV + 5 bytes of JMP + 2 unused + bytes. */ +# define FFI_TRAMPOLINE_SIZE 16 # define FFI_NATIVE_RAW_API 1 /* x86 has native raw api support */ #endif There are definitely libffi structures that have changed size between releases. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1892915 Title: gnome-shell crashing (libffi8ubuntu1 upgrade issue) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1892915/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1892320] Re: No-change rebuild for focal-updates
Hello Gunnar, or anyone else affected, Accepted fonts-noto into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fonts- noto/20200323-1build1~ubuntu20.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed- focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification- failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping! N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days. ** Changed in: fonts-noto (Ubuntu Focal) Status: In Progress => Fix Committed ** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to fonts-noto in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1892320 Title: No-change rebuild for focal-updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fonts-noto/+bug/1892320/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1893119] [NEW] Restart-required dialog gives no feedback
Public bug reported: I uninstall something that affects Nautilus, such as the MEGA sync package. I get a dialog that says "Nautilus Restart Required" (see attached screenshot). I click the "Restart Nautilus" button. I get no feedback that anything happened. I sit there wondering if it worked. I click the button a few more times. Eventually I go looking at other windows and find that yes, clicking that button makes any open Nautilus windows close, so I think a restart actually does happen. But the dialog gives me no feedback, no "restarted" message or anything. It should do so. [Bug 1892521] Re: UI bug - system fonts enlarge after every reboot
Hello Akhil Thankyou for this suggestion and the time you have put in. I tried this, and a few other workarounds from a few other forums, and they have all failed for me. The only solution has been to roll back the recently updated 'libmutter' package, as per comment #17 in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1892440 using the command: sudo apt install libmutter-6-0=3.36.1-3ubuntu3 gir1.2-mutter-6=3.36.1-3ubuntu3 the post suggests to also hold the update using: sudo apt-mark hold libmutter-6-0 I haven't needed to use this command, but I imagine any future update will have to be checked for a solution if this isn't run. In any case, this has provided a complete solution, with the login screen now also back to normal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1892521 Title: UI bug - system fonts enlarge after every reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1892521/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1892521] Re: UI bug - system fonts enlarge after every reboot
Adrian , let me help you out here STEP 1 : Open up text editor STEP 2 : type in the following(for a scaling factor of 1.0): #!/bin/sh dconf write /org/gnome/desktop/interface/text-scaling-factor 1.01 dconf write /org/gnome/desktop/interface/text-scaling-factor 1.0 STEP 3 : save it as a script(scripts end with .sh) say textfix.sh ; anywhere you like. STEP 4 : open up Startup Applications(It is a program included in Ubuntu by default). STEP 5 : In startup applications click on add. STEP 6 : Then in the NAME column type in something relevant like font fix(this is optional). STEP 7 : For the COMMAND column click browse and select the script that we made earlier. The command column will be filled with the path to the script now. Before the path name, type in the word 'bash'.Now the command column will be filled with something like this 'bash /pathToScript'. STEP 8 : Click on add(The comment column too is optional). STEP 9 : now close startup applications , and reboot. STEP 10 : Things will now return back to normal , so rejoice! [Bug 1893042] [NEW] tracker-extract crashes when trying to parse CRW file, and retries ad nauseam
Public bug reported: My computer hanged yesterday. After analysis, `/` is full, and all this is due to `/var/log/syslog` and `/var/log/kern.log` being full of messages from `tracker-extract`, until these logs get very large (3Go each !), eventually preventing my computer to respond: I was even unable to log in a TTY, and had to kill the computer using the power button (ugh). This issue seems to have been fixed as of 5.8.3 kernel.
