[Bug 1894177] Re: Scale factor not applied to Xwayland clients
Looking at the GTK source I still can't tell how it's meant to work, or if it ever did work correctly. In a pure Xorg session the scaling factor is an attribute of the monitor, so it's stored in ~/.config/monitors.xml. Are we losing that attribute in Xwayland with its virtual monitor? A nice simple solution would be env GDK_SCALE= and that works. But I'm not sure if there's a different way it's meant to work already. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1894177 Title: Scale factor not applied to Xwayland clients To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1894177/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%
Fundamentally it's fair to blame nvidia's closed source drivers because the open source one seems to do fractional scaling properly. Other than that what's the point in assigning blame? I'm not sure someone is even paying attention to this bug report, I probably would turn off notifications if it were me volunteering and trying to repair a closed source blob going constantly hassled about not fixing it yet. We really need to learn to be patient. Maybe we can pitch in to pay someone to make the feature work. Until then... [Bug 1894762] [NEW] file-roller does not unpack *.deb package
Public bug reported: I'm working on Ubuntu 18.04 x86_64 fully patched with the 5.3.0-66 kernel. The machine has file-roller 3.28.0. I'm trying to unpack a *.deb package. I double click on the *.deb archive and it opens in file-roller. I then click the 'Extract' button and select a directory. Finally, I click 'Extract' button again (in the file picker). file-roller only unpacks the _gpgbuilder file. It does not unpack control.tar.xz, data.tar.xz, or debian-binary. It does not matter whether I select 0 files in file picker, or all files in file picker. file-roller only unpacks the one file. If file-roller worked as expected, then I would expect to see _gpgbuilder, control.tar.xz, data.tar.xz, or debian-binary in the extraction directory. The file I am trying to extract is Zoom's binary for Linux. It is available from https://zoom.us/download. I want to disassemble the program and maybe see what's going on under the hood. $ apt-cache show file-roller Package: file-roller Architecture: amd64 Version: 3.28.0-1ubuntu1.2 Priority: optional Section: gnome Origin: Ubuntu Maintainer: Ubuntu Developers Original-Maintainer: Debian GNOME Maintainers Bugs: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug Installed-Size: 1840 Depends: bzip2, unzip, zip, dconf-gsettings-backend | gsettings-backend, libarchive13 (>= 3.1.2), libc6 (>= 2.14), libcairo2 (>= 1.4.10), libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 (>= 2.22.0), libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.37.3), libgtk-3-0 (>= 3.13.2), libjson-glib-1.0-0 (>= 0.12.0), libmagic1 (>= 5.12), libnautilus-extension1a (>= 3.14.1), libnotify4 (>= 0.7.0), libpango-1.0-0 (>= 1.14.0) Recommends: gvfs, yelp Suggests: p7zip-full, arj, lha, lzip, lzma, lzop, ncompress, rpm2cpio, rzip, sharutils, squashfs-tools, unace, unalz, unar, xz-utils, zoo Filename: pool/main/f/file-roller/file-roller_3.28.0-1ubuntu1.2_amd64.deb Size: 320176 MD5sum: d001eb54e2c46539a205c608fbf2bf85 SHA1: c77abc056b1afcd4d050a85f3cfe46a07a073b27 SHA256: 16c77f963dc7d92dff0bfbdece751474820c8775795845f17819641e1bf0d354 Homepage: https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/FileRoller Description-en: archive manager for GNOME ... ** Affects: file-roller (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to file-roller in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1894762 Title: file-roller does not unpack *.deb package To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/1894762/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%
I do not wish to sound ungrateful or entitled but this bug is literally the one show stopper that is preventing me from doing more work in Linux. I run a triple monitor setup and per monitor fractional scaling is a non-negotiable must for my work. Can someone explain the root of the problem? Is it poor driver support on Linux? Is it the desktop environment lacks mature support for this feature? Is it just very technically difficult and nobody has the time to handle all the possible combinations? Every day I sadly hold the space bar to bring up the boot menu to select Windows Boot Manager. Where is the limitation that prevents a solution here? What can be done to facilitate a fix? [Bug 1893277] Re: please provide an evince mailcap file
Contrary to the original bug report, it looks like in fact /etc/mailcap.order also affects entries originating from /usr/share/applications, as long as the first field matches the name of the .desktop file (minus the .desktop extension). So, if you add the line org.gnome.Evince:application/pdf into mailcap.order and run update-mime, you will have evince as the default handler for application/pdf files. In any case, even if we may have personal prefernces, evince is probably a more sensible default choice for viewing pdf's than gimp, so something should be done to fix this. ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #935426 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=935426 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1893277 Title: please provide an evince mailcap file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1893277/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

@ddstret - any update how to proceed? [Bug 1824874] Re: undismissable, unclickable authentication dialog left on screen (top-left corner) after policykit authentication [pushModal: invocation of begin_modal failed]
seeing more people encountering this - thought I'd share my observations: - did not see this for a few weeks now - toyed around with nextcloud for a bit yesterday (the new desktop sync client) - also tried to connect a (hacked) amazon fire hd10 tablet (which failed, also tried to get connection using gMTP, then left my system to sleep/idle) - came back to the invisible/unclickable thingie - alt-f2 + r gets rid of it as usual last journalctl says: (especially the last three entries seem interesting) Sep 04 11:09:45 hostname gvfsd[54716]: A connection to the bus can't be made Sep 04 11:09:45 hostname gvfsd[56942]: A connection to the bus can't be made Sep 04 11:09:45 hostname gvfsd[56925]: A connection to the bus can't be made Sep 04 11:09:45 hostname gvfsd[1976]: A connection to the bus can't be made Sep 06 12:00:03 hostname gvfsd[120538]: Device 0 (VID=18d1 and PID=0281) is UNKNOWN in libmtp v1.1.17.
