This validation is blocking the commit for the bug 1892440 (that has
exhaustively already validated).

[Bug 1892440] Re: Shell text with wrong size in mutter 3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 (mostly on Nvidia)

2020-10-05 Thread Cristiano Nunes
Hi, @vanvugt.

The bug 1558886 is a bit complicated to reproduce. I also have tried
some times.

In this case, it would be possible to mark the bug 1558886 as "opened
until validation" and commit the fix for this current bug 1892440 to the
"-updates"?

Because, if we wait someone validate the bug 1558886, it may be that
this fix is stuck forever.

I can't reproduce the crash by using the steps mentioned in "[Test

After following these steps, the process Xorg consume about 100% of CPU.

Re: [Bug 1898404] Re: The keyboard overlay slides up the screen even though touch screen is not in use

2020-10-05 Thread Skip Tavakkolian
Hello,

I upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04.1 (offered by software update) before I received
your reply. I can't reproduce the problem.

Using release 20.04.1, I enabled the "screen keyboard" from "Universal
Access" menu and can see the keyboard pop up behavior, as expected. I can
also disable it, and it stops popping up. Previously, even though disabled,
everytime text input was expected (e.g. clicking in a text box in the
browser, or selecting the Terminal to type something, etc.) the screen
keyboard would slide up from the bottom of the screen.

Thanks,
-Skip

[Bug 1898628] [NEW] touchpad unexpected behavior

2020-10-05 Thread Lyndie
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04 this morning.

Now, when I use the touchpad:
*To click on a window it sends it to the background instead of bringing it to
the front
*To click in a text box, it pastes text that it got from who knows where
instead of just providing a cursor. Each click pastes again.
*I cannot select text, it just pastes (related to the previous point)
*On the sidebar, it launches a new app instead of bringing up currently opened
instances.

I checked the version of synaptic and it says everything is current.

1. Release info:
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
Release:20.04

2. Package version: When I type 'apt-cache policy pkgname' it says
'Unable to locate package pkgname' and my software center has
disappeared from the sidebar. When I type 'software-center' into a
command line it says 'command not found'

3. I expected touchpad clicks to behave the same way they did in Ubuntu 18.04:
*Tapping in a window brings it to the front.
*Tapping into a text area brings up a cursor
*Can click and drag to highlight text for copying.
*Tapping the desktop sidebar icon shows a list of currently opened windows in
that app.

4. What happens now:
*Tapping a window hides it.
*Tapping into a text box pastes text that it pulled from who knows where.
*I have trouble selecting text -- sometimes lets me, sometimes just pastes
whatever text it pulled from who knows where.
*Tapping a desktop sidebar item opens a new instance of the app.

Side note: my buttons work just fine, this is only a touchpad issue.

[Bug 1898600] [NEW] Noto Color Emoji not consistently used

2020-10-05 Thread tellapu
Public bug reported:

It is great to see that Emojis are shown in Ubuntu 20.04 in most apps. But it
is not consistent which emoji foint is shown. I had to delete other emoji fonts
than the Noto Color Emoji package to have Noto be shown in Wire Messenger and
Evolution.
But with only Noto installed it seems that certain applications still don't
show emojis with Noto.
How could this be fixed?

At the end of this Ask-Ubuntu-answer (https://askubuntu.com/a/1045916/30631)
there was a tip to create a ~/.config/fontconfig/conf.d/01-emoji.conf file and
this helped to get Thunderbird show the Noto emojis in the new email window but
when I look at a sent emails the emojis are only black & white.
Could this tool help: emoji.conf · GitLab —
https://gitlab.com/es20490446e/emoji.conf ?

If I should ask this question somewhere else, thank you in advance for
guiding me!

[Bug 1898479] Re: Shotwell: Russian translation is invalid

2020-10-05 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting this issue and help making Ubuntu better.

With the upstream fix, that should be synced at some point and fix future
releases. In the meantime, it might help to update the strings in question on
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/groovy/+source/shotwell/+pots/shotwell/ru/+translate
 .
I do believe new language packs are released at regular intervals so the fixed
translation would make it into 20.04.

2020-10-05 Thread fossfreedom
Ok. On my low end celeron based intel graphics laptop the existing 20.04.1
version of mutter on the iso has this blinking problem.

So the uplift to v3.36.6 version of mutter in proposed does not regress
further than it already is.

2020-10-05 Thread fossfreedom
Daniel,

I note that the mutter reported was using mutter 3.36.6 - this is
currently in focal proposed as well.

I'll do a quick test later - do you think this is a potential blocker
issue for the mutter migration to release?

[Bug 1898462] Re: [groovy] Drag and drop files from Desktop to Nautilus freezes gnome-shell

2020-10-05 Thread Cristiano Nunes
Hi Daniel! Thanks for your response.

F.Y.: this bug is different from bug 1813441. There, it is not possible
to drag and drop (only).

This bug, in addition to not being able to drag and drop, gnome-shell
crashes.

[Bug 1898541] [NEW] [FFe] Update to 3.38.0

2020-10-05 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

It would be good if we could ship gnome-software 3.38.0 with groovy.

These are the 3.37.92 changes:

Add sysprof support for profiling jobs
Add webflow and basic auth support to flatpak plugin
Coalesce refresh operations where possible
Correctly mark layered rpm-ostree local packages as removable
Fix flatpak bundle installation
Handle invalid snap auth data
Improve flatpak progress reporting for transactions
Improve the heuristic for detecting old-style AppStream override files
Many performance improvements in many areas of the code
Only delete the firmware archive if we downloaded it to the cache
Show a pulsing progress bar if progress is unknown
Support loading appstream files from custom install prefix
Use the runtime fwupd version for the user agent

3.38.0 is a pure translation update.

[Bug 1681290] Re: UI experiences delay when menu / tooltip disappears

2020-10-05 Thread Matt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1181666 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181666

Forgot to mention, menus in gnome-shell itself (top bar, dock, and other
panels) do not suffer from this delay. They close immediately. This
ticket is associated with gnome-shell, but the way the original author
describes it, the shell isn't affected for them either: "This occurs in
GNOME, GNOME applications and also for non-GNOME applications such as
Firefox and Chrome."

[Bug 1820832] Re: [xorg] multiple monitors: limits the framerate of faster 120/144hz monitors to 60hz

2020-10-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
dreamcat4,

Ubuntu 19.10 is not supported. It reached end of life on July 17, 2020.

This is a bug/design feature of Xorg graphics drivers like Nvidia and
AMD's. You can work around it either by explicitly configuring the
driver to sync to the fastest monitor, or by enabling "TearFree" if
available.

For a more long term permanent solution, using GNOME Wayland sessions
should never hit such a problem. But that also requires your graphics
driver support Wayland sessions :(

[Bug 1681290] Re: UI experiences delay when menu / tooltip disappears

2020-10-05 Thread Matt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1181666 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181666

I'm having this problem years later in Gnome 3.36.3, Ubuntu 20.04.1. It
also happened in 19.x. I don't think it's a duplicate of #1181666
because that states some interaction is still possible. In this issue,
the whole ui is stuck. Windows, shell, clock, video that's playing,
everything but the mouse cursor. Done a lot of searching for a newer
ticket but none is a dead ringer like this.

The problem develops a while (hours?) after a fresh start and seems to
get more exaggerated as time passes. On a larger scope, a fresh install
is free of this problem at first, and then it develops after days/weeks
of normal use. Had a hunch that it started after installing a particular
package, but I can't remember what it was for the life of me. Clutter?
Wxwidgets? Just a hunch anyway.

Closing of menus, tooltips, and to some degree open/save dialogs are
delayed up to many seconds. This makes interacting with file managers
and web pages infuriating. I have interface sounds on (smooth soundset,
which includes menu actions) and noticed that opening a window menu and
scrubbing the mouse over the other top level items (file, edit, etc.)
still produces sound while this is going on, and the total wait time
until the display unsticks is compounded with every one. ***To me this
says it's not "no click" so much as "can't see".*** After zigging back
and forth I can be waiting a minute or more, meanwhile I can still hear
music playing, etc.

Regarding comment 2, I've not yet tried deleting my gnome settings
because I didn't want to gum things up, but regardless I'm not sure how
that implies this should be closed or is invalid. Gnome shouldn't be
doing things to that file that interfere with its own operation, right?
Again, this is from everyday use, and I've not been messing around in
things.
