[Bug 1872159] Re: booting with splash hangs when external monitors are connected
Sebastien, I'm new to Ubuntu so I may not be looking in the right place... but I couldn't find much in the logs. There was no crash, no error, just... nothing. Only option was a forced power down. I could find the point where I restarted it in the logs, but nothing else seemed remarkable. And that is all gone now since I subsequently tried to reload Ubuntu last week, which hit the installer bug.n And at the moment, that machine is sidelined... Right now, I'm using my backup laptop, which has also been running 20.04 for a couple months. I have grub set to quiet nosplash which seems to avoid it. I'm reluctant to try to reproduce this bug because these two machines both are mission critical. Plus: and this may be important... the backup is a ThinkPad T440s: immediately after this happened and forced a hard power down, I started to get ACPI errors every startup. We're not sure whether this event corrupted the ACPI table or whether it brought out a latent bug in the T440s BIOS. I have informed Lenovo. The other machine, the one that is sidelined, is a T570, dual boot with Win 10, Ubuntu freshly reloaded with much difficulty from the daily update copy due to bug 1871268. After getting past that installer crash issue, I was again confronted with initramfs errors (bug 1835660). Since we're not sure what this boot hang is doing to the BIOS, I turned off the splash screen hoping that I wouldn't see it. But that machine also continues to suspend on login, which seemed to be "the straw that broke the camel's back" and led me to reload Ubuntu in the first place: as it boots, as soon as you put in the login password, it suspends (bug 1897185). This combination of bugs got it unstable which is why I tried to reload Ubuntu late last week. Given all these errors, I can't really get you a "clean" test. But I can tell you that these four bugs seem to be inter-related. All this started with the second last Ubuntu Updater packet in mid- September, and got really bad with the last update packet which also included an update to the nVidia driver, which affects the T570 (the T440s is Intel graphics only). Both machines have Sierra Wireless WWAN, which does not seem to be involved. So this was all around the update to 20.04.1. Don't know if this helps but I hope so... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872159 Title: booting with splash hangs when external monitors are connected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/plymouth/+bug/1872159/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu that you are using. [Bug 1898914] [NEW] Ubuntu Dock Creates Stutter in Swarm Animation
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Version: 20.04 Package: gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock v. 68ubuntu1~20.04.1 Expected behavior: Swarm animation runs smoothly when launching application grid. Actual behavior: Swarm animation stutters when application icons align to grid. The "swarm" animation, which runs when opening the application grid, glitches and stutters at the moment that the application icons align to their grid positions. This is at the very end of the animation, and only occurs when Ubuntu dock is enabled. When the Ubuntu dock is disabled, the animation runs smoothly. [Bug 1898880] [NEW] Graphics stylus and mouse pointer got splited. Stylus pointer became invisible
Public bug reported: I have Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS. Window interface is Wayland. Used two different graphics touchpads - Wacom and XP-Pen. After another reboot I found stylus pointer invisible everywhere but desktop and terminal. But I need to draw in firefox, gimp, inkscape, etc. Here is detailed description of what I did before found this bug: 1. First of all my device (wacom) worked good. Pointer was visible when stylus was used. And it was shared with mouse. I could move pointer with mouse somewhere and continue to move it with stylus. 2. I've installed chrome-remote-desktop to check if it would be convenient to use android graphics phone with stylus to draw. (it was not) Then after reboot I found that I can't log in to X locally anymore because some conflict between gnome and chrome-remote-desktop. (I used https://remotedesktop.google.com/headless/ setup). 3. I've purged chrome-remote-desktop, reboot, logged in and found this bug. Pointer of mouse became independent and stylus pointer isn't visible anymore in programs (firefox for example) but visible on desktop as separate cursor or cross. 4. Now I use XP-Pen Deco 03 graphics touchpad, but pointer is splited anyway. [Bug 1880785] Re: Cannot enable 'Lock screen on suspend'
Solved the problem by following the accepted comment on this post: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1242110/after-upgrading-to-ubuntu-20-04-lockscreen-not-working `$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3` -> Choose gdm3 Don't forget to reboot. Also, it seems the error message that the gdm service cannot be started after the reconfigure is normal. Using lightdm instead of gdm3 is the cause of the problem here as it seems. Of course not a real fix, but a nice workaround. Hope this helps somebody. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1880785 Title: Cannot enable 'Lock screen on suspend' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1880785/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
