[Bug 1922839] [NEW] Opening new tab in gnome-terminal launched from nautilus loses most environment variables
Public bug reported: [Impact] If you launch gnome-terminal by right clicking a directory in Nautilus, selecting "Open in Terminal", you get a fully functional terminal window. If you then press the new tab button, or ctrl-shift-t to open a new terminal tab, you will find that most environment variables have become unset, and you see the text: To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo ". See "man sudo_root" for details. Comparing printenv between: Normal terminal: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/2hcCY9hbHQ/ Broken new terminal tab: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/zYsjRHVJH7/ Most commands won't run in the new terminal tab, due to $HOME and $USER not being set. Note, if you launch gnome-terminal from gnome-shell or the dock, and create a new tab, everything works perfectly. Thanks for the bug report. I can't seem to reproduce the problem in 20.04 here... Please open two Terminal windows and in one run 'top' and in the other run 'journalctl -f'. [Bug 1922766] [NEW] UP and DOWN keys behave erratically
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Since the last update, a couple of days ago the UP and DOWN arrow keys don't work properly. They are either slow to react or don't work at all, very occasionally they work as expected. It is only limited to these two keys. I don't think it is a hardware issue because if I boot my laptop up with another operating system it works fine. I checked to see if my bios needs updating, but it doesn't. Also I have tried starting with an older kernel and the problem is still there so I think this has something to do with xorg and/or gnome. [Bug 1912833] Re: Gnome shell crashes when using wl-copy or wl-paste (SIGFPE in wl_shell_surface_role_configure from meta_window_wayland_configure)
I believe that this is the same issue that causes crashes for me in some situations where a Wayland surface is committed without a window geometry. The upstream bug https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/1739 includes a backtrace of the crash on the "gnome-3-36" branch. So this issue will not be fixed with the 3.36.9 release. Upstream has no interest in maintaining 3.36 anymore (see comments) because there are not enough volunteers. For long-term maintenance of GNOME 3.36, it would maybe make sense if someone from the Ubuntu/Canonical team would step up to backport fixes into the "gnome-3-36" branch (or a fork) and do further releases. Alternatively, you could also release newer GNOME Shell versions with the LTS point releases. I think Red Hat used to do this with RHEL7. ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues #1739 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/1739 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1912833 Title: Gnome shell crashes when using wl-copy or wl-paste (SIGFPE in wl_shell_surface_role_configure from meta_window_wayland_configure) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mutter/+bug/1912833/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1922772] [NEW] Application window looses focus when launched from search but not when launched from app grid
Public bug reported: Release: Ubuntu 21.04 (20210406 iso image) Software, version: gnome-shell, 3.38.4-1ubuntu1 How to reproduce: 1) Boot up Ubuntu 21.04 image (live session or installed) 2) Once inside shell, go to overview (either using Super key or clicking on Activities) 3) Search for any application (eg., terminal) and launch it. Expected: The application launches normally and usable. Actual: The application launches but the window looses focus. When the application is launching, the desktop icons disappear for few seconds and reappear. When they reappear the launched application window will not have focus. If we launch the application from the app grid (without searching first) or from the dock, the window retains the focus. Tested on VM (quickemu and virt-manager). [Bug 1922795] [NEW] Gnome panel got stuck
Public bug reported: I closed the lid of my laptop, then opened it and launched a browser by clicking it's icon on the left panel. After that all the panels in Gnome got stuck - clicking on the left or top panels gives nothing. I still can access the global menu via the Win key, also hot corners work. But the panels are not only frozen - they seem to be ignored by the window manager, because when I open some app, it is placed under a panel just like the panel did not exist at all. These happened to me already twice. [Bug 1901060] [NEW] Using gnome-control-center to configure two wired connections is unreliable
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'd like to configure two wired connections: One to the outside world via DHCP, the other shared to other computers. When attempting this, unpredictable behavior happens: the two wired connections are conflated with each other. Doing this with a wired connection and wireless works without problemms. Ubuntu desktop 20.04 LTS. I was able to get it to work after playing with netplan for a while and getting it almost right, giving up on that, deleting all network interfaces, and starting over. Configuration: Dell G7 laptop (one ethernet connector) is configured as IPv4 "shared to other computers" (A private network), IPv6 disabled. J5create USB 3.0 to gigabit adapter is configured as IPv4 Automatic (DHCP), IPv6 disabled. This didn't work initially -- clicking on the wired connector would sometimes bring up the USB adapter and vice versa. The approach that did work was to delete all networking and reenter from scratch. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: focal -- Using gnome-control-center to configure two wired connections is unreliable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1901060 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1920776] [NEW] Source window raised on drag-n-drop -- drag-n-drop destination window not raised while hovering over it
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Dragging and dropping is pretty difficult owing to the fact that when you grab something in a window (the source window), e.g. a file in a file manager window, that source window is put on top of other windows -- including the intended destination window for the drag-n-drop. I.e. the act of starting the drag-n-drop results in obscuring the destination window, which is pretty counter-productive. Even if part of the destination window is visible it is still unusable, because no matter how long you hover over the destination window while grabbing an item it still doesn't get raised to the top so that you can actually drop the item in its intended place. If you need an example of how to make it workable, boot into macOS. 20.10 x11 ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: bot-comment groovy -- Source window raised on drag-n-drop -- drag-n-drop destination window not raised while hovering over it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1920776 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1922290] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in update_dbus_opened_locations()
to the "confusing description": Maybe a misinterpretation on my side. I booted the system, logged in, and immediately received a pop-up informing me of a crash. This might have been caused by the presence of a not-yet-reported crash file from an earlier session, although I cannot remember that I have executed "nautilus --version" earlier. Only upon seeing the crash report and the bug report that has been created, I executed "nautilus --version" (or maybe executed it again) and with that command I reliably can produce that crash again. Meanwhile I have downloaded the hirsute-beta-iso from March 31. Booting it in "Try Ubuntu" mode in VirtualBox also reliably crashed when running "nautilus --version". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1922290 Title: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in update_dbus_opened_locations() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1922290/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1922560] Re: nautilus crashed once tab was closed.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1922560 Title: nautilus crashed once tab was closed. [Bug 1922298] Re: Activities panel on wrong display
It looks like Ubuntu Dock (which inherits from dash-to-dock) has its own zero-based numbering. Try changing this number: gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock preferred- monitor 0 or just go to "Settings > Appearance" and select your preferred monitor there. I don't think this sounds like a bug because it seems to be designed to ignore the "primary" monitor setting. ** Tags added: multimonitor ** Summary changed: - Activities panel on wrong display + Ubuntu Dock on wrong display ** Package changed: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) => gnome-shell-extension- ubuntu-dock (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1922298 Title: Ubuntu Dock on wrong display To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/+bug/1922298/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
