[Bug 1971516] Re: File save dialog from all browsers can't save outside of Downloads or /tmp

2022-05-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. Is that an issue only for the save dialog? Can
you copy files to this directory using the filemanager?
Is your user directory a normal local directory or is it a remote directory or
an encrypted one?

[Bug 1971424] Re: gnome shell crashed with segfault at 20 ip error 4 in libmutter-10.so.0.0.0 after suspend (deep)

2022-05-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1971126] Re: unable to click on application search results

Local configuration could mean anything in:

  gsettings list-recursively

If you're feeling adventurous and want to try resetting all your
settings to the system defaults then you can run:

  dconf reset -f /

I do it regularly during Ubuntu development because I often find myself
getting stuck on some new issue that's not in the default settings but
caused by something I changed.

[Bug 1970495] Re: Window manager freezes when plugging in USB-C dock with external monitor.

Hmm, maybe we still need to treat those errors as a separate bug. If you
look at a full system log like in comment #14 then you see the errors
occurring many times. But presumably the "freeze" here does not occur
many times. So they may not be the cause of the freeze.

[Bug 1725814] Re: The Activities top left button reacts to a mouse-up (e.g. drag and drop) instead of a click

2022-05-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This bug was reported against artful. Was the behaviour wrong the whole
time or is upstream talking about a more recent regression?

Also this is fixed in gnome-shell 42.1:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/5181
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/merge_requests/2281

So it's possible comment #4 is about that instead.

Generally in GUI design correct behaviour is for a button to only act on
mouse-press-and-then-release. Not just press and not just release.

[Bug 1971473] Re: Untranslated desktop file

Nice try, Till, but g-c-c is not part of Ubuntu MATE. ;)

I pushed this commit:

https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/system-config-
printer/-/commit/a8b851a6

As regards jammy I uploaded an updated translation template manually.
Looks good:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jammy/+source/system-config-
printer/+pots/system-config-printer/oc/569

So that string will hopefully be shown translated in the 22.04.1 point
release.

[Bug 1969637] Re: IBus lookup table appears bottom left of application (x11)

2022-05-03 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Ikuya, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-settings-daemon into jammy-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-
daemon/42.1-1ubuntu2.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1971487] [NEW] Screen position and settings lost during KVM switching or Super-P

2022-05-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On a machine with multiple (3) monitors, I'm able to setup the order &
positioning of the displays, and indicate the primary display.

However, some of the time, if I toggle mode with Super-P key combo,
returning to the same mode, the display order is lost, the primary
display setting is lost. Open windows end up on the wrong screen.

The same behaviour is observed, some of the time, when using a KVM
switch, switching the displays to a different machine. On switching the
KVM back to the machine, the display order, positioning and primary
display settings are lost and have to be reset.

Sometimes, the display order, positioning and primary display setting
survive a KVM switch or a super-P mode toggle.

Gnome-shell/mutter/ubuntu should maintain the display positioning,
order, and primary display setting.

In mode setting or KVM switching, there are noticeable delays as the
monitors re-awaken themselves and communicate their EDID's, geometry,
and connection topology (daisy-chained DP monitors).

Running the app "Extensions" shows three enabled extensions:

  Recently upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04, and it seems like the power-saving

  minutes, but just blanks them. When I manually run `xset dpms force

 Release:   22.04

  2) gnome-settings-daemon:
Installed: 42.1-1ubuntu2
Candidate: 42.1-1ubuntu2

  3) In Settings -> Power -> Screen Blank, set the inactivity period to 5
  minutes. After 5 minutes, the screens should turn off.

  4) Screens go black, but remain active and consume (too much) power.

[Bug 1971455] [NEW] Super slow file saves in Gimp on Kubuntu 22.04

2022-05-03 Thread Patrick Dunford
Public bug reported:

1. Kubuntu 22.04 upgraded from 20.04
2. Gimp 2.10.30 native package.
2a. Also affects Gimp 2.99.x Beta Flatpak from Gimp Project

3. File save operations have been shown to be slower by as much as 10 times
compared to the same project on Kubuntu 22.04 and same version of Gimp.
A sample project has been created with 200 layers each 4800x7200. When saved
with better-but-slower XCF compression the disk file size is around 13 GiB. On
the 20.04 system the save time is around 8-15 minutes. On the 22.04 system the
save time can be stretched out to several hours.
A second project tested with 250 larger layers has a save time on 20.04 of just
over an hour, on 22.04 it takes more than 12 hours to save.

[Bug 1871869] Re: Nautilus copy task status is not accurate.

2022-05-03 Thread EAB
Ubuntu 20.04 here.
I found reports of the file manager data transfer progress information being
unreliable dating back 15 years
(https://alt.os.linux.ubuntu.narkive.com/RxvTnprS/still-no-progress-bar-when-copying-files-to-flash-drive)
 and I cannot understand why, for the love of god, this is still the way it is
today!
At the very least the user should be presented with progress information when
attempting to cleanly eject the USB stick!

In Windows and MacOS the data transfer progress is actually what one
expects - a reality-based depiction of the data being transferred -
which when it says it's completed, is actually completed.

In Ubuntu (all Linux?) you get this data transfer progress information
which is more of a lie than the truth. And this in a PC OS which is
supposed to be intuitive for the average PC user ... or else why bother
with most of the GUI if to see something as rudimentary as this you have
to start executing terminal commands!?

[Bug 1969512] Re: Totem unable to play video: "The specified movie could not be found"

2022-05-03 Thread Steve Nyemba
I have encountered the issue and have a fix for it:

1- Install VLC and worry about nothing.

2- get gstreamer1.0-vaapi_1.16.2-2_amd64.deb (from  20.04) and install
it (it's a downgrade) it will complain upon installation but it will
work.

Disclaimer:
While it fixes the issue with totem, I haven't tested what it will do system
wide. I will be reporting soon.

[Bug 1971434] [NEW] Display powersave only blanks, but does not turn off

2022-05-03 Thread Florian Echtler
Public bug reported:

Recently upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04, and it seems like the power-saving
feature in Gnome 42 does not actually turn off the screen(s) after X
minutes, but just blanks them. When I manually run `xset dpms force
off`, they do properly turn off and go to powersave mode.

1) Description: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
   Release: 22.04

2) gnome-settings-daemon:
  Installed: 42.1-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 42.1-1ubuntu2

3) In Settings -> Power -> Screen Blank, set the inactivity period to 5
minutes. After 5 minutes, the screens should turn off.

4) Screens go black, but remain active and consume (too much) power.

[Bug 1969838] Re: Ubuntu-dock does not work when using Turkish Language

2022-05-03 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Kaan, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gjs into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gjs/1.72.0-3~ubuntu22.04.1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

[Bug 1971427] [NEW] gdm in jammy defaults to wrong keymap option with no UI for fixing it

2022-05-03 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

After upgrade to jammy, gdm somehow has defaulted to the English US
keymap. This is not my keymap of choice, and this is not the keymap
that was used on impish before upgrade. It is a keymap that I had
configured as an option for my login session, but it was not the default
and after removing it from my user config, it persists as the keymap
used for gdm.

The keymap that *should* be used is English (Dvorak, alt. intl.) en.

There is a selector for the keymap in the top bar, but after every
logout, the keymap setting reverts to the wrong one.

@floe -- thanks for the extra info! Unfortunately I'm not sure this is a
gstreamer issue (or more precisely, there may well be a gstreamer issue
on amd64, but it doesn't appear to be the case on arm64 with the Pi

Admittedly, this was on my usual Pi desktop; I'll try it on an entirely
fresh card in a bit (as I need to do that to respond to seb128's request
for a proper stacktrace), but I suspect the result will be similar.
Still, it may be worth opening a separate bug for the gstvaapi case?

[Bug 1970984] Re: Can't save files in a Folder in a Folder 22.04

2022-05-03 Thread Miguel Belardinelli Prytoluk
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1969622 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969622

I can confirm this is not the same issue as bug #1969622. "gtk4 -
4.6.2+ds-1ubuntu3" fixes the issues with the save button on empty
folders but does not fix this issue.

[Bug 1725814] Re: The Activities top left button reacts to a mouse-up (e.g. drag and drop) instead of a click

2022-05-03 Thread João Pedro Seara
Sebastien,

This issue is very annoying in 22.04 indeed. I didn't notice this in
20.04 at all. Seems to be a re-occurrence.

Here is the link to the upstream bug:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/4897

Someone kindly attach it to this case's header.

Thanks.

Re: [Bug 1971144] Re: Black screen after login.

2022-05-03 Thread Stapel
The three added lines to the /etc/environment file did not make a
difference. I tried both "Ubuntu" and "Ubuntu on Xorg" logins. I was
connected through a KVM to the monitor however, because I am sharing a
monitor, mouse and keyboard with other machines. So, I plugged a monitor in
directly (as well as a separate keyboard and mouse) and now I am able to
log in normally using either the "Ubuntu" or "Ubuntu on Xorg" logins. I
removed the three lines from the environment file again and login still
works. So it looks like 22.04 just does not like my KVM switch.

The KVM switch is a CKLau (CKLau-64HUA-UK).

[Bug 1969767] Re: totem crashes when attempting to play mp4 files [gst_buffer_get_meta: assertion 'buffer != NULL' failed]

2022-05-03 Thread Paul White
Uninstalling gstreamer1.0-vaapi as suggested in bug 1969512 allows me to
start totem, add local .mp4 files and play them. No crashes noted after
starting totem several times and playing .mp4 files from several
sources. Reinstalling gstreamer1.0-vaapi made totem crash again. So
again removed and no crash.

[Bug 1969512] Re: Totem unable to play video: "The specified movie could not be found"

2022-05-03 Thread Florian Echtler
I'm pretty sure this is not a Totem issue, but rather a GStreamer issue.

E.g. for the linked video, if I try to play it through playbin on Jammy
(`gst-launch-1.0 playbin
uri=file:///home/floe/Downloads/big_buck_bunny_720p_surround.mp4`), I
get a black window with the audio track playing in the background. Same
happens for any movie that also has the same issue with Totem.

Running with GST_DEBUG=3 gives a lot of
```
so this may be VAAPI-related?
Certainly if a session type crashes then it will be removed from the
login menu. Please report the crash in a new bug by following
It might be a known issue but which known issue we don't yet know.
[Bug 1968929] Re: Missing Wayland login option on NVIDIA systems
2022-05-03 Thread Ralph Schmieder
funny enough, I have the opposite issue, 22.04 w/ gdm3 42.0-1ubuntu7
installed and Nvidia 510 driver.  Hardware is a Dell XPS 15 9510 w/
GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU.
When selecting the Nvidia "On-Demand" profile, I get both, Wayland and
X11 in GDM.  However, when I select "Performance Mode", X11 stops from
working, it's not offered in the gear menu anymore.  What's worse, even
if I disable Wayland in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf, it seems like the X
server simply crashes:
[Bug 1971412] [NEW] App grid scrolling stutters when Ubuntu Dock is on the left side of the screen
2022-05-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:
App grid scrolling stutters when Ubuntu Dock is on the left side of the
screen. But not when it's on a different side of the screen, or
disabled.
Feels like a scrolling/relayout propagation bug, which might be best
fixed in gnome-shell itself.
I'm noticing performance issues like this when I have an Nvidia GTX 1650
card installed with driver 510.60. And only when it is in the lowest
power mode (desktop has been idle).
[Bug 1971144] Re: Black screen after login.
2022-05-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the log. I can't see anything that would explain a black
screen, it looks normal.
Please try adding these to /etc/environment and then reboot:
  MUTTER_DEBUG_USE_KMS_MODIFIERS=0
  MUTTER_DEBUG_ENABLE_ATOMIC_KMS=0
  MUTTER_DEBUG_DISABLE_TRIPLE_BUFFERING=1
If that works then please also try to figure out which one exactly is
fixing the problem.
[Bug 1971338] [NEW] Activities overview / switching workspaces runs on low framerate (30fps) on NVIDIA + Wayland
2022-05-03 Thread Triangle Stone
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1970291 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970291
Public bug reported:
(Bug report can also be found on
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2247)
Details:
- Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
- GNOME Shell 42.0
- Bug happens on Wayland only
- Dell XPS with i9-9980HK (using the GTX 1650 mobile, since gnome runs very
slow on integrated graphics)
- NVIDIA driver version 510.60.02
- Using internal monitor (4k) + two external 4k monitors
Summary:
The activity overview / the process of switching workspaces runs at half the
normal framerate (30fps) when running NVIDIA on Wayland.
Steps to reproduce:
- Run Wayland and NVIDIA
- Open activity overview or switch workspaces
- Lament the framerate
What I expected to happen:
I expect the overview and workspace switching process to run at the framerate
that matches the monitor refresh rate (60Hz).
