[Bug 1986850] Re: Manual proxy is partially cleared on 20.04 => 22.04 upgrade

2022-08-31 Thread Sam
Possibly the 20.04.4 live system is also involved, because to my
knowledge setting a proxy via Settings/Network does not normally make
any changes to /etc/apt/apt.conf (i.e. you are not prompted for a sudo
password after setting a manual proxy in Settings/Network).

So I'm guessing the 20.04.4 live system made the apt.conf change since
apt requires it. (Note: some earlier versions of Ubuntu live systems did
not make the apt.conf change automatically; we had to do it manually
whenever we had to use proxies.)

In any case, whatever cleared the manual proxy setting from both user
accounts ideally shouldn't do that.

I don't believe this is related to any ubuntu-release-upgrader logic. I
will re-assign the bug to gnome-control-center since it sounds like
that's where you're configuring your proxy.

[Bug 1986850] [NEW] Manual proxy is partially cleared on 20.04 => 22.04 upgrade

2022-08-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

We installed 20.04.4 on a wiped SSD using the live USB stick after
entering the credentials for our WLAN. We set a manual proxy via
Settings/Network before doing the installation.

After the system came up, we set up a second user account, and set a
manual proxy via Settings/Network in that account also. We made no
changes to /etc/apt/apt.conf.

We installed openssh-server as well as aptitude and updated the system,
rebooted, then connected to the system over ssh, ran screen and do-
release-upgrade.

The system upgraded normally to 22.04.1.

After we rebooted we noticed that the manual proxy setting had been
cleared from both user accounts (was disabled in Settings/Network) which
was not desirable.

However we noticed that aptitude was still making proxy requests,
because /etc/apt/apt.conf contained a manual proxy setting:

 Acquire::http::Proxy "http://proxy.x.com:x/;;

So this is inconsistent. Ideally the proxy settings should not have
been cleared from both user accounts. But if that is to be the case, it
should have also been removed from /etc/apt/apt.conf.

[Bug 1988339] [NEW] Ubuntu doesn't change the keyboard layout

2022-08-31 Thread Petr
Public bug reported:

If you have more then 2 layouts then often after restart Ubuntu don't
switch layouts.

I started to see this problem maybe after Ubuntu 20.10(?)

The problem have roots in the installation process. 3 weeks back I
reinstalled Ubuntu Budgie. I choose German layout what was qwertZ.
qwertZ is crazy uncomfortable if you migrate from English qwertY layout.
So I replaced it with Germany qwertY. Now I have (1)English, (2)Russian,
(3)German qwertY . But every second time I restart the laptop I get
German qwertZ!

Here is stackoverflow questions from other users
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/627270/ubuntu-doesnt-change-the-keyboard-layout

A workaround that I found is to open the Region & Language settings and
change the order of the Input Sources. This workaround is temporary, so
next time it happens I need to do that again (in my case is changing the
order of 2 layouts in EN->RU placeholder simply by drag and drop and
when it happens again, switch back RU->EN, so I guess the order itself
doesn't matter).

[Bug 1988315] Re: gnome-shell crash with wayland on kinetic

2022-08-31 Thread Ken VanDine
I tried disabling the system extensions and logging in again, which did
work. I was able to reenable them all and gnome-shell was still working
again. Then of interest, launching an app that uses an appindicator
caused the shell to crash. I can reliably reproduce this, the
appindicator extension is triggering the crash. It happens when an app
registers with the indicator, which I have slack and mattermost set to
autostart on login, which in turns triggers my crash at start.

[Bug 1981722] Re: Update gjs to 1.72.1

2022-08-31 Thread Nathan Teodosio
I installed from jammy-proposed (1.72.2-0ubuntu1) and played with Gnome
Shell and all the Gnome applications listed in test case 2. They all
worked fine.

I also successfully built the package from source with debuild, and
meson test passed all tests.

[Bug 1988333] [NEW] Ubuntu Gnome Dock Randomly Dies

2022-08-31 Thread Randy J. Ray
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04, I have noticed that the dock (which I
have at the bottom) will randomly die. When this happens:

* The dock is reduced to just the "Show Applications" icon
* One or more open applications will no longer accept events (mouse or keyboard)
* Ctrl-` (and sometimes Ctrl-TAB) cease working

I can restore it by hitting Alt-F2 and then "r" in the dialog. When this
happens, icons on my status bar (Slack, Dropbox, etc.) are doubled. The
extra icons go away after the screensaver kicks in and is then unlocked.

$ apt-cache policy gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock

[Bug 1987162] Re: 43: New Device Security feature is confusing and unhelpful currently

2022-08-31 Thread Mario Limonciello
> A default Ubuntu install only gets us "Security Level 1". The highest
level is "Security Level 3".

It's not a function of the OS, it's a function of the underlying hardware,
firmware, and firmware configuration for your given system.
The "!" in the HSI string is controlled by OS behavior (such as encrypted swap,
taint, etc).

At least on a pre-production Lenovo Z13 I can get HSI-2, depending on
whether Lenovo has SPI replay protection in the production hardware I
might be able to get all the way to HSI 4.

Host Security ID: HSI:2! (v1.8.4)

HSI-1
✔ Fused platform:Locked
✔ Rollback protection: Enabled
✔ Supported CPU: Valid
✔ TPM empty PCRs:Valid
✔ TPM v2.0: Found
✔ UEFI platform key: Valid

HSI-2
✔ IOMMU: Enabled
✔ Platform Debugging:Locked
✔ SPI write protection: Enabled
✔ TPM PCR0 reconstruction: Valid

HSI-3
✔ Pre-boot DMA protection: Enabled
✔ Suspend-to-idle: Enabled
✔ Suspend-to-ram:Disabled
✘ SPI replay protection: Disabled

HSI-4

[Bug 1976623] Re: SRU for evolution 3.44.4

2022-08-31 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Sorry, I got confused in the sea of version numbers, so my previous
comment is off the mark in its assumptions.

It seems we didn't land any Jammy SRU for 3.44.2 onwards since the one
in jammy-updates is 3.44.1-0ubuntu1.

Since adding a GMail account does work for me in 3.44.1-0ubuntu1, it is
a regression indeed.

[Bug 1976623] Re: SRU for evolution 3.44.4

2022-08-31 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Yes Chris, those were my observations for the 3.44.3 SRU. The bug has
since been updated into a 3.44.4 SRU, and it seems it already landed in
jammy-updates, so it's already fix released?

Adding a GMail account does work for me in 3.44.1-0ubuntu1. I'd call it
a "progression" instead of "regression".

[Bug 1988301] [NEW] Does not implement data-ciphers, only cipher which OpenVPN 2.5+ ignores, hence can fail to connect

2022-08-31 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Public bug reported:

It's no longer possible to use the cipher option in NetworkManager as
it's ignored by OpenVPN; and the default list of data-ciphers is
applied, making it impossible to connect to an AES-128-CBC endpoint from
NetworkManager.

There does not appear any way to forward the data-ciphers config, even
if I hand edited the nmconnection file to add a data-ciphers line it is
ignored.

This seems to (still) be the most common gnome-shell crash in jammy.
It's hard to confirm since a bug in errors.ubuntu.com puts all assertion
