[Bug 2008540] [NEW] Ubuntu 22.04 freezes suddenly for no apparent reason. it cannot reproduce.

2023-02-24 Thread Tony Rmz
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 22.04 freezes suddenly for no apparent reason. It does not respond to
any rescue key combination (Alt + SysRq + R E I S U, Alt + F2, etc).
Only with "Alt + SysRq + B" I can do a reset.
I have updated the kernel to the next version
antonio@antoniormz:/var/crash$ uname -r
5.19.0-051900rc6-generic

And I am still testing the stability.

Release:
antonio@antoniormz:/var/crash$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS
Release:22.04

Package version:
antonio@antoniormz:/var/crash$ apt-cache policy pkgname

Could you please help me identify what is causing the system freeze and how to
fix it?

[Bug 2008532] Re: Typing a filename in a nautilus window, and the letters are not in the order I typed them.

2023-02-24 Thread Rob Frohne
I should comment as well, that I have several different computers
running Ubuntu 22.10 like this one, but this is the one that I am sure
has this problem. If the problem exists on the others it is very much
less frequent. I should also mention that I use a Dvorak key layout,
which may make me type faster than some, but I have run tests where I
was typing slowly, but not slowly enough to wait for each letter to
appear before typing the next one, and I still get this problem. If I
let each letter appear before typing the next, all is well.

[Bug 2008532] [NEW] Typing a filename in a nautilus window, and the letters are not in the order I typed them.

2023-02-24 Thread Rob Frohne
Public bug reported:

On my Lenovo Yoga 260 I have this annoying problem. At first I thought
it was just my typing, but after carefully testing it, I find it is not
my typing. You need to type the characters fairly quickly, but often
when you do, they come on the search bar in a different order than you
typed them. For example, I have a directory called LaserTag and so when
I want to find it among all the others in my directory, I open the
nautilus window and start typing Laser, but what is printed in the
search bar is Lsaer. This may happen in some other programs. I am not
sure about that, but it is at least most apparent in nautilus, and
reproducible. For example, I did the test twice and got Lsaer twice just
now.

[Bug 2008279] Re: xsettings ibus commit broke text input for Firefox & Chromium snaps

2023-02-24 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Please disregard my "couldn't login" talk in the previous comment. I was
confused. Not the first time in history, and not the last.

So:

The version in my PPA (including that upstream g-s-d commit) works fine
for me on my regular lunar install. I can type in the address bar in
both the Firefox and the Chromium snap. It also lets me revert the
latest im-config change, and it still works on x11 without the issue
described in bug #2007379. As expected, in other words.

(My VirtualBox "can't login to x11" issue is still there, though. But
that's another story.)

[Bug 2008279] Re: xsettings ibus commit broke text input for Firefox & Chromium snaps

2023-02-24 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I built g-s-d in a PPA with the revert reverted:

https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/gnome-settings-
daemon/+packages

On wayland I see no difference; everything works as expected. Also with
a fresh lunar install in VirtualBox.

But my observations on Xorg with my regular install was a bit
surprising. With im-config 0.55-1 present (i.e. GTK_IM_MODULE set to
"ibus"), I do not notice any problems with the upstream g-s-d commit. I
can type in the Firefox address bar — also in Chinese. But if I revert
the latest im-config change, so nothing sets GTK_IM_MODULE, I can't even
log in to "Ubuntu on Xorg".

So my first theory seems to be very wrong, and rather the opposite is
true: The upstream g-s-d commit works for me *only* if also
GTK_IM_MODULE is set to "ibus".

As regards the VirtualBox fresh install: Couldn't log in to x11 now
either. (And this time I used the version of VirtualBox from lunar-
release.)

[Bug 1992980] Re: Window previews menus are not fully visible when scaling is enabled

2023-02-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock -
76ubuntu1

---
gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock (76ubuntu1) lunar; urgency=medium

  [ Marco Trevisan (Treviño) ]
  * New upstream release 76
  * windowPreviews, appIcons: set maximum width/height on menus taking scaling
in account.
Even if St.Theme is supposed to scale down all the css values, this
doesn't seem to happen for the menus max-width / height values and so
we may end up having too big menus to be visible. (LP: #1992980)
  * appIcons, windowPreview: Use overlay-scrollbars for window previews.
Helps to have them properly aligned
  * appIcons: do not set isHorizontal parameter on AppIcon when opening a menu.
It's not an object property, so no need to keep it changed here.
  * windowPreview: Improve style of menu-items depending on dock positioning.
Sadly this is not just a style change, because apparently St is bugged
when it comes to handle the first/last child properties so if we'd just
use normal allocation we would have lost the special padding for those
elements causing unwanted behavior.
In this way, instead we preserve the style-defined sizes also for
first/last children.
  * utils: Use nicer syntax for later and MonitorManager wrappers
  * Add gnome-suggested eslint and auto-fix main issues.
  * extension: Cleanup code to be conform to ESLint rules
  * docking: Remove autohide trigger timeout on destruction
  * windowPreview: Get scale size without using an utility function.
That's simple enough to be handled internally
  * appIcons: Allow marking urgent applications when not running.
This may be supported when using remote launcher actions
  * appIconIndicators: Do not load theme node for off-stage widgets.
These information are only available when a widget is on the stage
  * locations: Notify error message to the user, not the error itself
  * locations: Ignore errors when mounting a mounted device or umounting an
umounted one
  * locations: Do not try to use the handler app twice to launch if not found.
We're already doing a check for handler app in vfunc_launch(), so
there's no need to go through the same via vfunc_get_commandline()
  * locations: Check for gjs version just once
  * locations: Do not return anything on open_new_window.
  * locations: Mark the application as stopped if launching fails.
  * locations: Use async API to get the handler APP for uri.
GVfs implementations of GFile could cause the shell to hang while querying
the file infos, making the whole UI to freeze, and such actions can't be
cancelled, even if that's running in external processes.
To avoid this to happen, we need to use the async API and limit its
execution time to handle failures gracefully.
In case we also cache the last valid handler applications so that in case
we can re-use it on timeouts. (LP: #1997264)
  * locations: Use better logic to check if a new window can be opened.
Sadly we can't use the new-window action directly because it does not
support adding further arguments.
  * locations: Handle undefined error gracefully
  * eslint: disable some options that are not working in ubuntu's eslint

  [ Daniel van Vugt ]
  * debian/control: Allow installing with gnome-shell 44.

  [ Sabri Ünal ]
  * Update Turkish translation

  [ Sundeep Mediratta ]
  * Dont detect and track DING windows for intellihide
  * Move constant to global, to prevent recurrent assignments
  * intellihide: Optimize intellihide for handled windows.
  * Fix Transparency for Gtk4 DING

  [ Brendan Weibrecht ]
  * Make urgent application icon dance toggleable
