2023-05-23 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Daniel, or anyone else affected,

Accepted mutter into lunar-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/44.1-0ubuntu1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
lunar to verification-done-lunar. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-lunar. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

backported from where? The only commit in that tree that mentions "Dcv"
doesn't exist in gnome-shell upstream yet.

[Bug 2018603] Re: Inconsistent cursor size with fractional scaling

2023-05-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
desktop-icons-ng uses GTK3 so maybe that's the common factor? Basically
any older GTK app that has to fake fractional scaling by being over-
upscaled and then downscaled in the compositor.

Looks like https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/2956
might fix it? Same as bug 2012100. We'll know for sure soon because that
fix is included in mutter 44.1.

[Bug 2013216] Re: Single click on title bar does not transfer focus to target window (server side decorations in Xorg sessions)

2023-05-23 Thread Jeremy Bícha
Scott, the mutter 44.1 update for Ubuntu 23.04 needs to be manually
approved by a member of the Ubuntu SRU team before it will be built as a
-proposed update.

Once approved, if its passes manual verification and after at least a
7-day wait, it will be released as a normal update for Ubuntu 23.04.

There is a lot more detail about the process at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

Is there any news or ETA for the new mutter 44.1-1ubuntu1 package?

[Bug 2011251] Re: When focus-mode=mouse is set, gnome-shell gets into state where clicking on window title bars doesn't raise them

2023-05-23 Thread Jonathan Kamens
OK, yes, it turns out that mouse focus vs. click focus is indeed the
differentiator for me, but it's a bit more complicated than that. If I
have focus set to mouse when I log in, then this bug manifests even if I
change focus to click. If I have focus set to click when I log in, then
this bug does not occur even if I change focus to mouse. So the deciding
factor seems to be the focus setting that's active at the time the user
logs in.

[Bug 2011251] Re: gnome-shell gets into state where clicking on window title bars doesn't raise them

2023-05-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It looks like this bug is specific to the setting you have:

  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-mode 'mouse'

So please try the default instead:

  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-mode 'click'

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 2013216
Single click on title bar does not transfer focus to target window (server
side decorations in Xorg sessions)

** Summary changed:

- gnome-shell gets into state where clicking on window title bars doesn't raise
them
+ When focus-mode=mouse is set, gnome-shell gets into state where clicking on
window title bars doesn't raise them

** No longer affects: mutter

[Bug 2011251] Re: When focus-mode=mouse is set, gnome-shell gets into state where clicking on window title bars doesn't raise them

2023-05-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2817 is kind of similar
but is about:

  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-mode 'sloppy'

So basically it looks like the fix in 44.1 only works for the default:

  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-mode 'click'

[Bug 2013216] Re: Single click on title bar does not transfer focus to target window (server side decorations in Xorg sessions)

2023-05-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I think I see the problem. In bug 2011251 Jonathan is using:

  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-mode 'mouse'

instead of the default:

  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-mode 'click'

So that's a different problem and bug 2011251 will be reopened. This bug
remains closed.

I think comment #19 is incorrect. That version doesn't contain the fix:

44.0-2ubuntu4.23.04.1 fixed this issue (Lunar)

I just had to `apt upgrade` to get it.
