[Bug 2067126] [NEW] GIMP crashing on close if there's an unsaved image

2024-05-24 Thread Rob T Firefly
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu 24.04, GIMP 2.10.36-3build3

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open any image in GIMP and make any change to the image
2. Click the X button on the window titlebar to close the program
3. On the "There is one image with unsaved changes:" popup click "Discard
changes"

Expected behavior: The program exits normally.

Actual behavior: GIMP crashes, and gives the "GIMP Crash Debug" popup
with debug data. On next start the "Image Recovery" popup happens
offering to recover the last-used image.

This only happens when using the titlebar X button to close GIMP.
Exiting the program with File -> Quit and clicking "Discard Changes"
does not trigger the crash.

Debug data pasted below.

[Bug 2059817] Re: Image viewer renders SVG improperly

2024-03-29 Thread Stephen T Satchell
In discussing this bug with a friend, he reminded me that, in the "flash
and escape" phototypesetters, when you wanted to change the aspect ratio
of a letterform, you has to set anamorphic magnification. It appears
that InkScape has a habit of using complex scaling algorithms to effect
this anamorphic magnification. This could well be confusing some of the
image renderers. Looking at the XML coding, Inkscape sometimes changes
the font height, then changes Y magnification to compensate. Sometimes
it doesn't. This may be the root cause of the bug.

Any road, the issue is that each letterform in a variable-width font has
an image, and a width value (sometimes called "escapement", harkening
back to the days of the spinning-disk optical phototypesetters where the
paradigk was "flash and escape".) The width values are not being scaled
properly. This is most likely a simple oversight, and if so it's easy
to fix.

[Bug 2059817] Re: Image viewer renders SVG improperly

2024-03-29 Thread Stephen T Satchell
In further tests, I find that Chrome, Firefox, and LibreOffice Draw
renders the image correctly. Of course, the image was created in
InkScape, so it's rendering is also as expected.

Dia displays an error when loading the image. Document Viewer: SVG not
supported. GIMP screws up exactly the same way. ImageMagick doesn't
even try to render the text.

Re: [Bug 2025687] Re: URL Links in Document Viewer Does not Open in Firefox

2023-07-04 Thread John T
The Firefox and Evince versions are the default versions that came with
Ubuntu 22.04.

is there anything printed when you try to open an url? I'm sorry, but I do
not understand the question. When I click on the link in the PDF document,
it does not take me to the link. If I copy the link and paste it in a new
tab on Firefox, the link works.

Here is the output:

$ journalctl -f

[Bug 1992984] [NEW] gnome-terminal tab addition/deletion resize issue

2022-10-14 Thread T Johnson
Public bug reported:

Adding and removing tabs can sometimes cause the window to grow and
shrink in different directions, top or bottom.

To reproduce, use gnome and have the dock at the bottom of the screen.
Open a new gnome-terminal and move the new gnome-terminal window so that
the bottom is pushed up against the top of the dock. Now, CTRL-SHIFT-T
to open a new gnome-terminal tab. The window will grow in height from
the top, as expected.

Now close that new tab. The window will not shrink from the top of the
window where it grew from. Instead it will shrink up away from the dock.

In situations where you have many different gnome-terminal windows open
for development work, you end up with wasted bars between the dock and
the terminal windows, and the windows will overlap.

windowed notification alarm will appears.

There are 2 issues here:

 * Evolution calendar could have a built-in setting to allow this intrusive
pop-up that can't be disabled by GUI it seems
 * In case desktop DND mode is exposed to apps, this popup should check before
if DND is ON, then just not disturb me :)

The only current way to dodge it for now, is to disable all calendar or
uninstall evolution …

[Bug 1989477] [NEW] Switching to dark mode in settings does not change shell theme.

2022-09-13 Thread Joshua T
Public bug reported:

Changing the "Style" in the "Appearance" section of "Settings" (gnome-
control-center), does not update the shell theme. When I select dark
mode from settings, Libadwaita apps respond to the changes, but the
shell theme and GTK3 applications do not. This has been observed on both
Wayland and X11.

Ubuntu Version: Ubuntu Kinetic Kudu (development branch) | 22.10

Package Version: 1:43~rc-1ubuntu2

What I Expected: Changing the style in settings will affect all the apps
that support changing light/dark mode. The shell theme will also respond
to the change.

What happened instead: Only libadwaita apps are affected by changing the
style in Settings. GTK3 apps and the shell theme do not change. When
changing to dark mode via the quick settings menu, all the apps change
their color scheme appropriately. However, there is not a smooth
transition when switching the style from quick settings.

Sure

The Keyboard Shortcuts for Lock Screen is set to Ctrl+Alt+L
Found in Settings -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> Lock screen -> Ctrl+Alt+L

1) I can't lock the screen using the (keybinding / shortcut) Ctrl+Alt+L

2) I can lock the screen by clicking on the lock option but the screen doesn't

2020-10-02 Thread Rick T
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter
the problem.

-I tried to set the screen to lock at a specific interval and it doesn't lock
Settings-> Privacy-> Screen Lock -> Automatic Screen Lock -> Enabled
Settings-> Privacy-> Screen Lock -> Automatic Screen Lock -> 30 seconds

-The screen doesn't go blank at all (option found under)
Settings-> Privacy-> Screen Lock -> Blank screen Delay -> 1 minute

2. The behavior you expected.
It should lock the screen and have the screen go blank but it doesn't

3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Nothing happens the screen doesn't lock or goes blank.

Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu that you
are using.
I upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04.1 using the sotware updater GUI
rt@sys76:~$ uname -a
Linux sys76 5.4.0-48-generic #52-Ubuntu SMP Thu Sep 10 10:58:49 UTC 2020 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

About me including the file-manager being nemo I was just trying to
include everything I could think of to help out.

If you need anything else let me know.

[Bug 1874713] [NEW] Instabilities when returning from idle mode and delay when detecting bluetooth peripherals

2020-04-24 Thread Edson T. Marques
Public bug reported:

I have noticed instabilities in my bluetooth, mouse and keyboard, whenever I
return to my desk I go back to using my notebook that went into idle mode. In
addition, I realize that when turning on the computer and entering the Ubuntu
login interface, there is a relevant delay before the bluetooth peripherals
(mouse and keyboard) are detected. The time difference is very relevant
compared to what happened at Eoan.
Whenever I leave the idle mode, the mouse pointer became slow, with unstable
and heavy movements. The keyboard also has erratic and strange functioning.
I have an old sony vaio notebook and use a wireless keyboard and mouse
communicating directly with the notebook's bluetooth without the need for
adapters (dongle). The Mouse is an original sony vaio that I bought with the
notebook, the keyboard, unlike, was recently purchased.
For now the workaround solution I've been applying is to turn bluetooth off and
on again, through the gnome configuration panel. In fact, whenever I do this,
there is again a long delay before the peripherals are detected. I need to keep
moving the mouse for about 10 to 20 seconds for detection to occur. I need to
type on the keyboard many times until detection occurs.

Still in Ubuntu 19.10 the two actions (Take a Screenshot of the Current
Window and Take a Screenshot of a Selected Area) are still disabled.

In which Ubuntu-Version this will be fixed?

Re: [Bug 1825669] Re: gnome-control-center is crashing when trying to access the privacy tab

2019-04-23 Thread Edson T. Marques
The case has been settled.
I apologize for wasting your time with a vacillation on my part. I
inadvertently upgraded this package to a 3.32.n version available in an
unstable Debian repository.
I will try to be a tester more consistent with ubuntu.

Thank you!

gnome-control-center, the program hangs and then crash.

After that, gnome-control-center no longer runs. When I try to run it
from the command line, it returns the following:

"
etm@etm:~$ gnome-control-center

[Bug 1807460] [NEW] Filenames with spaces not accepted when connecting to certificate-authenticated wifi

2018-12-07 Thread Michael T
Public bug reported:

This bug was encountered on a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS

When connecting to a certificate-authenticated wifi network (WPA/WPA2
Enterprise, authentication TLS) for the first time, the "Wi-Fi Network
Authentication Required" dialogue is displayed, prompting the user to
select their CA and user certificates.

Unexpected behaviour: If any of the files have spaces in their
filenames, after choosing them in the file picker the field is
highlighted by a red box, and the 'Connect' button is greyed out.

This is depicted in the attachment network-authentication-red-box-
spaces-filename.png

There is also no explanation offered for why the red box highlight is
present - no tooltip, no help from pressing F1, no popup, and as far as
I can find no logs.

If you move/rename the file, so there are no spaces in the filename, the
problem is worked around.

The problem is not present on the edit connection dialogue; filenames
with spaces are acceptable there.

The problem was also not present on Ubuntu 16.04, and users who upgrade
from 16.04 to 18.04 will find their connection keeps working. It is only
when creating an entirely new connection (or after forgetting the
connection and recreating it) that the problem dialog appears.

I'd like to thank you! And great thanks to kyak for the patch!
I confirm that it works for me on "older" Gentoo and xorg-server 1.9.5.

[Bug 1766758] Re: Gnome software can uninstall some programs but not others

2018-05-02 Thread Ken T
So, I've freshly installed the release version of Xubuntu 18.04 and
applied updates, and now Gnome-Mines uninstalls as expected.

However, the "SGT Puzzles Collection" which came bundled with Xubuntu
still refuses to uninstall properly. Gnome Software says it's removed,
yet that cluster of games still appears on the XFCE menu and is
launchable.

Cheers,
Ken.

[Bug 1732245] Re: [wayland] Fullscreen games offset after returning from alt-tab

2018-04-06 Thread Eero-t-tamminen
Note that Mutter fullscreen handling isn't fully fixed even for Xorg,
see bug 1755501.

(It's not a regression, at least not a recent one, but something that
works fine with all other desktops. I think any use-case which doesn't
support resizing after it opens its non-resizable fullscreen window,
would suffer from the same Mutter bug.)

** Description changed:

(As seen in the latest daily build of 32bit Ubuntu Budgie)

Under "universal access", various features work as expected (e.g turning
on high contrast, or large text). However, pressing the toggle button
for the on-screen keyboard has no effect.

Please note that another Ubuntu Budgie user has noticed this issue also
  - see comment #5 from Bug #1687900, dated 6th October 2017.

Further, this bug is possibly related to Bug #1726453.

  Thanks,
  Ken.

[Bug 1754819] Re: Using Gnome Settings' search tool works for some but not all items located under top-level menu categories

2018-03-13 Thread Ken T
Jeremy, it seems that this issue has already been reported upstream, but the
issue has been closed and I don't yet know how to reopen it:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/issues/1

I'd edit the desktop.in.in files directly myself, but am a newcomer to
the process for doing so. Any pointers to how-to's, etc?

Also, on the issue of Gnome having two upstream bugtrackers, I note that
according to the following link:
https://wiki.gnome.org/Initiatives/DevelopmentInfrastructure/
... they say that their plan is "Shortly after the new solution (Gitlab) is
setup, disable issue reporting in Bugzilla (as well as new accounts,
milestones, etc)."
So I guess we can just use Gitlab for issues going forward.

Thanks,
Ken.

[Bug 1754819] Re: Using Gnome Settings' search tool works for some but not all items located under top-level menu categories

2018-03-13 Thread Ken T
Jeremy, Daniel,

Thanks for your replies. As per Daniel's suggestion, I've run apport, &
have updated the bug title and description.

I'll also lodge a bug report upstream as Jeremy suggests, and report
back with a bug number.

Jeremy, you've suggested that there are potentially multiple bugs here -
I'm not sure I agree with this. I hope that by amending the bug
description that I've summed up the over-arching issue, and that filing
a bug report for each instance of the issue wouldn't be necessary.
Please let me know your thoughts on this.

With this in mind, I disagree with Daniel's assertion that the main
issue in this bug report has already been fixed.

Thanks,
Ken.

[Bug 1754819] Re: Using Gnome Settings' search tool works for some but not all items located under top-level menu categories

2018-03-13 Thread Ken T
** Description changed:

(As seen in the latest daily build of 32bit Ubuntu Budgie)

- See attached screenshot. Searching within settings is currently not very
- useful / intuitive, as it only finds results at the level of top-level
- menu entries / categories, but not the items within them.
+ See attached screenshot. Searching within settings is currently not as
+ useful / intuitive as it could be, as it finds results for some items
+ located within the top-level menu entries / categories, but not all
+ items.

- As an example, searching for "uni" brings up Universal Access, but the
- same search tool produces nothing when searching for items within the
- Universal Access category (e.g. "contrast", "screen", "cursor", etc).
+ Being able to find all menu sub-items from the search tool without having to
pore through individual menus is the ideal outcome, and is my intention in
raising this bug report - the individual examples below are merely instances of
this broader pattern. Please note that these examples seem to be changing
rapidly, as overnight updates have made some search terms return valid results
when only a few days ago they didn't.
+
+ Examples of search terms that don't work / work fully:
+ - cursor (no items found; should return "Universal Access")
+ - high (ditto)
+ - sound (only returns the "sound" menu; should also return "Universal Access"
+ - sharing (brings up some valid results, but not "Notifications" which
includes the item "desktop sharing".
+ - desktop (ditto)
+
+
+ Examples of search terms which do work properly:
+ - contrast
+ - screen
+ - size
+

  Thanks,
  Ken.

[Bug 1755501] [NEW] GfxBench renders fullscreen content at wrong size in Gnome desktop (on X)

2018-03-13 Thread Eero-t-tamminen
Public bug reported:

Setup:
* FullHD monitor (1920x1080 resolution)
* Ubuntu 18.04 (pre-release) with Gnome/mutter 3.27.92, on top of X
* GfxBench benchmark suite from Kishonti: https://gfxbench.com/ (one of the
most common 3D benchmarks supporting Linux)

Example test-case:
* bin/testfw_app --gfx glfw --gl_api desktop_core --width 1920 --height 1080
--fullscreen 1 --test_id gl_manhattan

Expected outcome:
* Benchmark renders always in full monitor resolution, like happens with all
other desktops (Unity, XFCE, KDE)

Actual outcome:
* There's a black bar at the top of the screen and benchmark content is
vertically scaled to smaller size than fullscreen

Same thing happens also with Ubuntu 16.04 version of Mutter (v3.18.3),
so it's not a (recent) regression.

I assume that any other similar test-case which:
* requests full resolution fullscreen window
* uses window size that it gets
* but doesn't support resizing the window afterwards

Would have the same issue.

>From xwininfo, xev and apitrace output I can see following:
* Window is created in correct resolution
* app sets some window properties
* WM reparents it
* WM maps window's parent to screen
* WM resizes window's parent a smaller size -> I think this is the point when
the application sets its GL viewport to wrong size
* Some _NET_WM properties are set (by WM?)
* WM resizes window's parent back to correct size, which is apparently too late
for this application

When comparing this to what Unity does:
* Unity or app sets properties after reparenting
* There's an extra intermediate window between the resized parent and the
benchmark window
* Resizing of the parent window to smaller size happens before that window is
mapped on screen. I assume this means that the application doesn't get window
resize event for the wrong window size
* extra _NET_WM properties are set after parent is re-sized back to correct
size -> this probably makes the time window with wrong window size shorter

Upstream bug: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/60

I'm filing this here too because:
* This was tested on latest Ubuntu 18.04
* Mutter upstream bug tracker doesn't support attachments

[Bug 1754918] Re: Budgie / Gnome file manager "unable to access" a USB stick that works fine under Linux Mint LTS

2018-03-10 Thread Ken T
I've just tried to plug in 3 known-working USB sticks into this UB daily
build, with content on the USB sticks that I access from other *buntu
machines, and with each stick I got the same result - "unable to access
 - read-only file system".

So that's a pretty significant bug, I'd say.

Thanks,
Ken.

[Bug 1754819] Re: Searching within Gnome Settings only works for top-level menu entries

2018-03-10 Thread Ken T
This issue has been partially improved in the overnight update, but
inconsistently.

As some examples of the broader pattern I'm talking about here, searching for:
- "screen" now brings up a plausible list of options, including screenshot,
universal access, displays, etc.

- "contrast" brings up Universal Access. All good.

- "cursor" brings up no result, despite also being an option under Universal
Access.
- "sharing" brings up "sharing - control what you want to share with others",
but does not bring up "desktop sharing".
- "banner" brings up no result, even though "banner designer" is an option
under Notifications > Applications.

contains files called "vlc" & "vlc-wrapper".

As seen under a daily build for Ubuntu Budgie 18.04 32-bit, using
Software v3.27.92

Cheers,
Ken.

Searching for Firefox only returns Iceweasel. Can we get Firefox (back)

[Bug 1754827] [NEW] Gnome settings - color: No ability to add new color profile via GUI

2018-03-10 Thread Ken T
Public bug reported:

(As seen in the latest daily build of 32bit Ubuntu Budgie 18.04)

The "Color" page within Settings has a "Learn More" link, which points
to the Ubuntu Desktop Guide. Within this, I found a page called "How do
I test if color management is working correctly?", which suggests that
it's possible to click on a button called "Add profile" to enable a test
colour profile (and presumably other profiles also).

The current development version of Gnome, as seen in the latest daily
build of Ubuntu Budgie 32bit, has no such button visible within Settings
> Color. See screenshot.

Thanks,
Ken.

[Bug 1754823] [NEW] Gnome Settings is inconsistent with how it respects spelling differences due to locale

2018-03-10 Thread Ken T
Public bug reported:

(As seen in the latest daily build of 32bit Ubuntu Budgie)

See attached screenshot, which shows a couple of examples of this issue:

1) different spellings of the same word within the one screen ("color" and
"colour").
2) spellings of words according to British English ("Behaviour") and American
English ("maximized").

Ideally, all text strings would respect the locale / language settings
selected upon installation (in my case, British English / Australian
locale). This would apply to words such as (color/colour, words ending
in ized/ised, and any other words which are spelt/spelled differently
between British and American English).

Thanks,
Ken.

[Bug 1754819] [NEW] Searching within Gnome Settings only works for top-level menu entries

2018-03-10 Thread Ken T
Public bug reported:

(As seen in the latest daily build of 32bit Ubuntu Budgie)

See attached screenshot. Searching within settings is currently not very
useful / intuitive, as it only finds results at the level of top-level
menu entries / categories, but not the items within them.

As an example, searching for "uni" brings up Universal Access, but the
same search tool produces nothing when searching for items within the
Universal Access category (e.g. "contrast", "screen", "cursor", etc).

Thanks,
Ken.

[Bug 1754816] [NEW] Gnome: Under "universal access", trying to turn screen keyboard on doesn't do anything

2018-03-09 Thread Ken T
Public bug reported:

(As seen in the latest daily build of 32bit Ubuntu Budgie)

Under "universal access", various features work as expected (e.g turning
on high contrast, or large text). However, pressing the toggle button
for the on-screen keyboard has no effect.

Please note that another Ubuntu Budgie user has noticed this issue also
- see comment #5 from Bug #1687900, dated 6th October 2017.

Further, this bug is possibly related to Bug #1726453.

[Bug 1754813] [NEW] Software: searching for programs / packages doesn't work

Searching for various programs (Gimp, Kazaam, Abiword, Blender) does not
find the program - "no application found".

[Bug 1754812] [NEW] Software: default categories displaying very few entries

2018-03-09 Thread Ken T
Public bug reported:

(As seen in Software v3.27.92, as present in the latest daily build of
32bit Ubuntu Budgie for 18.04).

With "All" selected by default at the top of the screen, clicking on any
of the buttons for software categories (productivity, communication &
news, etc) reveals only a handful of entries, when there are usually
truckloads of them. See attached screenshot as an example.

However, clicking on "Installed" software shows 53 entries, so at least
that seems to be working OK.

Thanks,
Ken.
