I apologize if this is well known-- but I was disappointed to find that
I could not add favorites directly with a click from the
mysqueezebox.com site. Then I read this tip: The easiest way to
explore internet radio and add stations to Your Favorites is to use
the Remote Control feature of your squeezebox account from your
computer. Just login to your squeezebox account, click on the Remote
Control tab, explore the many internet radio stations, then add them to
Your Favorites. It is also easy to set an alarm in the same way.

Maybe this will help somebody.

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-10-27 Thread Amos Brocco
this is strange, because I'm able to do it:

1. sudo nautilus
2. double-click on an archive from the root nautilus window
3. drag some file from file-roller to the nautilus root window ... Works
4. drag some file to a normal nautilus window... Works

[Bug 155532] Re: [gutsy] nautilus information sidebar right-aligns text when background in use

2007-10-26 Thread Amos Brocco
I confirm this (see attached screenshot)

It is possible to reproduce the problem also by dragging a new background and
then resetting to the default one. To restore the alignment
hiding and re-showing the sidebar is sufficient.

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-09-09 Thread Amos Brocco
About the Cannot extract archives in a remote folder foldername on
drag and drop...

I've looked at the code and, to me, it seems that developers have forgotten to
remove a test that prevented extraction to a remote folder in
the previous versions, when this was not possible. As now they added support
for remote extraction via gnome-vfs ***, I don't think the error message is
necessary.

so... I've attached a patch against file-roller 2.19.91 (it just deletes
the if condition for non local uris in the dnd extraction)

I don't have much time now, please test it :)

*** see http://live.gnome.org/TwoPointNineteen/ReleaseNotes , Uses gnome-vfs
to load and save remote archives, as well as to add remote files to an archive
and to extract to remote locations. USED.

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-09-06 Thread Amos Brocco
I've just posted a patch against nautilus 2.18.1 on gnome bugzilla that adds
XdndDirectSave support.
The code is adapted from Thunar 0.8.0 (Benedikt Meurer).

see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=171655

Unfortunately I currently do not have a Gutsy install... so if somebody
can verify if this patch works against nautilus 2.19.xx it would be
great

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-04-25 Thread Amos Brocco
To Paco Avila:

Why not wait until implementing this protocol it the others apps :
development must start somewhere... what if nautilus implemented it but nothing
used it? Wouldn't it be the same situation?
Instead of just criticizing people about what they can afford to do or not do
for FREE (software), why don't you start to contribute actively or just limit
yourself to somewhat more constructive critiques?
Thunar implements it. : if you like it, use it!... but then don't go on the
thunar bugs page and file bugs just because there are features that nautilus
implements and thunar not.

To VF:

Now it's not completely broken... thanks to developers, it's halfway
fixed, and we can expect a complete fix for the next release. If you
think it's so easy to fix, that it's just a problem of motivation, why
don't you fix it yourself? Or propose a bounty for that?

[Bug 49202] Serpentine is extremely slow at decoding mp3

Serpentine is extremely slow at decoding mp3, at least too much slower

[Bug 62660] File Chooser: changing the path in the location bar does not update list view

2006-09-27 Thread Amos Brocco
Public bug reported:

(problem in edgy)

In the file chooser, changing the location using the location/address bar does
not update
the list.

for example, if I want to select a file located in /usr/lib/jvm :

- with the old (dapper) file dialog I would
press CTRL+L, type /usr/lib/jvm, press Enter (the list view gets updated to the
path I've chosen) and then choose the file by browsing the list.

- with the new (edgy) file dialog, if I type /usr/lib/jvm in the address
bar and then press Enter, the open button gets clicked (so to open the
file, without entering the whole path including the filename in the
address bar, I'm forced to navigate in the file list)

Public bug reported:

As the decoding process is slow (see bug #49202 ), Serpentine should check
the blank cd available space/time before decoding files, and not at the end.

Also, if the media is too small (ex. 74min cd instead of 80min) the

should be offered (so that the user can change the media and retry
without having to wait another time for the files to be decoded)

[Bug 8023] Re: unable to change printer name

2006-05-24 Thread Amos Brocco
You can rebuild the gnome-cups-manager / libgnomecups packages by doing:

sudo apt-get build-dep libgnomecups
sudo apt-get build-dep gnome-cups-manager
apt-get source libgnomecups
apt-get source gnome-cups-manager

the sources for the two packages (and the build dependencies) will be
downloaded and extracted in corresponding directories. Now...

1) For gnome-cups-manager, copy the patch file in debian/patches
directory and then, from the source base directory (ex. gnome-cups-
manager-0.31) issue:

dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -uc -b

after compilation, you'll find the .deb package in the parent directory

2) For libgnomecups, copy the patch file in the base directory of the
source (ex. libgnomecups-0.2.2), then cd into that directory and use

patch -p1 nameofthepatch.patch

to apply the patch (supposing that you saved the patch as
nameofthepatch.patch). Now you can build the package with

dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -uc -b

Finally you can install both packages with: sudo dpkg -i packagename
Beware that the version number will be unchanged and the update-manager will
advertise both packages as upgradable.

[Bug 45818] Documents/Templates/.. folders path should be customizable

2006-05-20 Thread Amos Brocco
Public bug reported:

The Documents and the Templates folders (and maybe also the Pictures
foldes used by gnome-screensaver) path should not be hard-coded, at
least because not everyone speaks english and understand what these
folders are.

Documents and Templates paths should be configurable at least with
gconf, or (better idea) in a similar way as you can configure preferred
applications.

Manually create a shortcut for a custom Documents folder on the
desktop is not an option, because, by the way, the Documents entry in
the Places menu will be wasted.

Last but not least... there is an i18n problem... clicking on the
Documents icon (which is translated... Documenti, Dokumente, etc.) opens
the Documents folder, which can confuse users.

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2006-05-10 Thread Amos Brocco
uhm... I think that Xarchiver does not support drag n' drop at all

It seems that I've found an argument in defense of File-Roller...
I've tried to drag and drop things from Ark (the KDE equivalent of File-Roller)
to Konqueror and I get the same behavior: I have to wait with the button
pressed until the file is uncompressed in the temporary directory and then the
URI is passed to the drop target (I've tried with the vmware player Ubuntu
image... a big file of 543M compressed and several gigs when uncompressed).

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong (I just installed KDE to test this...
so I'm not a K-expert).

(small note: I've also noticed that it is not possible to drag things from Ark
to Nautilus, but it is possible to drag from File-Roller to Konqueror.)

I think that the solution to this problem (without hacking with dnd protocol or
nautilus) is to implement a gnome-vfs extension as it's proposed in gnome-bug
page for this bug (so that it is possible to pass a list of pipelined
zip/tar/... uri's to the drop target)

Note: I've tried with KDE on Breezy
