[Bug 1070290] Re: Folders bookmarks not showing in places

2013-01-24 Thread Anthony Barclay
Problem seems to be that in gnome-panel/libpanel-util/panel-gtk.c the
function panel_gtk_get_bookmark_file will return the path to the
bookmarks file as ~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks whereas nautilus appears
to be updating the file ~/.gtk-bookmarks. Problem is obviously something
about the condition being used to determine which path to return but I'm
afraid I don't know how to fix it correctly so instead a workaround
until someone wiser does is to do the following:

rm ~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks
ln -sf ~/.gtk-bookmarks ~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks

[Bug 811475] Re: Descender letters (g j p q y) get their tail cut off in current song

2012-10-08 Thread Anthony Harrington
In an effort to quench similar comments coming in recently, here is the
current state of things, including solutions:

A patch isn't really necessary because it's fixed upstream and it's
known that the bug exists in versions of rhythmbox 2.97.

So..What needs to be done is a request for the version in quantal
(2.97-1ubuntu5) to be backported to replace the version in precise
(2.96-0ubuntu4.1) or precise-updates (2.96-0ubuntu4.2). (What is the
correct procedure for this?)

OR you can install version 2.98 from the webupd8 ppa:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/rhythmbox
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

[Bug 1050063] Re: gnome-sudoku ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for LaunchpadIntegration

2012-09-27 Thread Anthony Harrington
bumping

I was going to make a proper merge request out of my patch above but i had some
trouble compiling gnome-games properly even without any launchpad-integration
stuff.
I think my patch looks alright though - i know the code i'm suggesting to add
to gnome-sudoku solves the problem and the change to the LPI patch which
precise uses adds my changed code in place of what was causing the crashing. In
theory, it should solve the problem nicely.

[Bug 1050063] Re: gnome-sudoku ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for LaunchpadIntegration

2012-09-14 Thread Anthony Harrington
Bug also occurs on the default version of gnome-sudoku in precise
(3.4.1-0ubuntu1) as well as precise-updates version (3.4.1-0ubuntu2.1).
Bug occurs if you remove packages gir1.2-launchpadintegration-3.0 and
launchpad-integration and try to open gnome-sudoku - since these packages are
installed by default, users who haven't removed them will not come across this
problem but those that do will be unable to open gnome-sudoku.

I have a patch suggestion but i'd appreciate it if someone could give it
a look over.

1) Edit main.py which resides in /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-
packages/gnome_sudoku/main.py when installed.

2) Delete line 9 containing from gi.repository import
LaunchpadIntegration - it only seems to be used by the setup_gui()
function on line 171 and there doesn't appear to be any harm in doing
so.

3) Change the setup_gui() function on line 171 to the following (or similar):
http://pastie.org/4720780
(I've left some comments - for example, does gnome-sudoku actually have an
error log to write to? Printing 'launchpad integration error' or similar to the
terminal would suffice i think. At the very least, at least the program will
actually run now!)

Program then runs happily. :)

[Bug 1050063] Re: gnome-sudoku ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for LaunchpadIntegration

2012-09-14 Thread Anthony Harrington
Oh, i see now!
Launchpad integration is added via a patch called 01_lpi.patch in (for example)
gnome-games_3.4.1-0ubuntu2.1.debian.tar.gz in folder /debian/patches from
lines 132-159.

and that's where the true bug lies because the code that it adds to
gnome-sudoku should be more like what i've suggested above in comment 3.
This situation will repeat itself with further versions of gnome-sudoku
while that patch is added as it is.

2012-09-14 Thread Anthony Harrington
Yes, but what about users on 12.04.1 LTS - a long term support STABLE
release - unable to open the program to play sudoku?

If this is the case, I really think an update should be pushed that
removes the launchpad integration patch from the version in precise, or
at the very least writes in a conditional workaround like i suggested.
It's a simple update, really.

Roger that, i'll have a look through the list in gnome-games and see what needs
to be changed in the patch.
Making gnome-sudoku dependent on gir1.2-launchpadintegration-3.0 is a bad move
(just ends up pulling in not likely needed fluff), so i'll get to it and
report back when i have news :)

[Bug 1050063] Re: gnome-sudoku ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for LaunchpadIntegration

2012-09-14 Thread Anthony Harrington
Right then, let's see now.
Had a look at all the games listed under the patch:
glchess
gnect
gnibbles
gnobots2
gnome-sudoku
gnotski
gtali
glines
gnomine
iagno
lightsoff
mahjonng
quadrapassel

and this whole 'launchpad integration' bug seems to only be affecting
gnome-sudoku because all the others run fine even without the 2
affecting packages ('launchpad-integration' and 'gir1.2-launchpad-
integration-3.0')

I've therefore used Meld to output the difference between an unpatched
main.py (before any LPI patch hits it) and the changes i posted above in
comment 3 which check for launchpad-integration, output an error if it
can't find anything, but run the program nonetheless. At least now it's
not show stopping.

Regarding this new 01_LPI.patch - only the contents between lines 132 and 157
need to be changed but i'm not 100% sure i've done it right, so i'd appreciate
it if you could give it a once over lol.
The python indentation of my revised main.py runs smoothly without indentation
errors but the way it looks on the patch looks a bit sketchy: Is it OK?
I'm also a bit confused why gnome-games 3.4.1 has 'gnome-games-3.3.91' in the
01_LPI.patch used, but i'm new to .diff and .patch files (still learning lol).
I checked and the patch in question has not changed between gnome-games
3.4.1-0ubuntu1 (Precise) and 3.4.1-0ubuntu2.1 (Precise updates).

If this new patch is used instead when building, gnome-sudoku should
check for launchpad integration and run :D

[Bug 1050063] [NEW] gnome-sudoku ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for LaunchpadIntegration

2012-09-12 Thread Anthony Harrington
Public bug reported:

  File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gnome_sudoku/main.py, line 9, in

This is a minimalistic system and as such a lot of packages have been taken
out.
Any attempt to start the program is met with no visible activity.

Commenting out lines 9, 182 and 183 from
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gnome_sudoku/main.py disables launchpad
integration but the program then runs perfectly again.

[Bug 1044643] [NEW] Top and bottom panels are missing on all workspaces but the first one

2012-09-01 Thread Anthony Pankala
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 and gnome-panel. The default is having 4
workspace that are two by two in bottom right. I prefer for them to be
four in a row so when I went to change to that set up I ran into a
problem. On any workspace but the first one you can't see the top and
bottom pannels. To get back to the first workspace I have to right
click and Change Desktop Background. It forces me back to the first
workspace.

I've also tried a two by three workspace set up and same thing occures.
It should also be noted that when I would move a window to another
workspace you don't see a orange square in the preview box like it would
normally would. Everything works find and like it should though if I
leave the workspace setup as default, a two by two workspace.

** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Description changed:

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 and gnome-panel. The default is having 4
workspace that are two by two in bottom right. I prefer for them to be
- four in arrow so when I went to change to that set up I ran into a
+ four in a row so when I went to change to that set up I ran into a
problem. On any workspace but the first one you can't see the top and
bottom pannels. To get back to the first workspace I have to right
click and Change Desktop Background. It forces me back to the first
  workspace.

It will be helpful if you can restart gnome-settings-daemon with this
command killall /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon;
/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon --debug
g-s-d-debug.txt and perform the test again, then attach the log file
g-s-d-debug.txt to this bug.

[Bug 950160] Re: Unity blocks other programs from binding globally to Super+* or Alt+* (* = any key)

2012-06-18 Thread Anthony Wong
Hi Daniel,

Your workaround may not work for the super+P (video out switch event),
because it is handled by gnome-settings-daemon. (of course technically
it can be done, but that means we need to write a new program to do
that)

And I want to know what has changed in 12.04 Unity with regard to the
Super key, because the Super+P key sequence, which is sent by the
video out hotkeys, has been working fine in 11.10 and before.

Thanks,
Anthony

[Bug 950160] Re: Unity blocks other programs from binding globally to Super+* or Alt+* (* = any key)

2012-06-18 Thread Anthony Wong
** Description changed:

  WORKAROUND 1:
Run CCSM and under Ubuntu Unity Plugin change the key binding for Key to
show the launcher to something else (e.g. Super+U). Then log out and in again.
As long as no compiz plugin is bound to the single Super key any more, compiz
will no longer block other apps from binding to Super+other_keys.

  WORKAROUND 2:
  1. Write a script or figure out the command to do the action you want.
  2. Run ccsm.
  3. Enable the Commands plugin
  4. In the Commands settings, fill in the command line you want and bind it to
key Super+P.
Now Unity will run your specified command on Super+P, but still handle the
Super key as usual.

-
  [Precise SRU Justification]

[Impact] Any shortcut with Super, Hyper, Meta virtual modifiers does not
  work

[Test Case] Attach an external monitor to the laptop, press Super+P, it
should do the video switch as this function is implemented in gnome-
- settings-daemon. A patch in comment #12 is not accepted upstream and a
+ settings-daemon. A patch in comment #12 is now accepted upstream and a
test package with that patch is available in comment #14. From the test
result, the patch at least fixes Unity-2D.

[Regression Potential] The patch is accepted upstream and is also
cherry-picked in the gnome-3-4 branch of g-s-d git tree. g-s-d version
in Precise is 3.4.2. So the risk of regression should be rather low.

[Other] I prepare a debdiff in comment #31 for convenience. I hope the
patch can be in both Quantal and Precise.
-

  ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
Using : 12.04 Beta 1, updated. and Unity.

  In 11.10 clicking:

  - the function key (Fn) + (F1) allowed to switch between the laptop
  screen and the external monitor.

After upgrading to 12.04 this no more works and instead I get an
  unexpected behavior: see the video.

[Bug 1011569] [NEW] Roman numerals aren't ordered

2012-06-11 Thread Anthony Harrington
Public bug reported:

In a library of songs containing album entries like Final Fantasy IX
and Final Fantasy VIII, 8 is put after nine because the sorting
mechanism is working alphabetically, saying 'I' comes before 'V'.

I propose that rhythmbox be taught that, as it would with numbers, it
should order roman numerals as well when sorting library entries.

2012-06-05 Thread Anthony Harrington
Very pleased to see that the issue has been fixed!

Version 2.97 has been released which displays the now playing bar to the right
and improves real estate on the screen a bit.
Don't know when it'll be ready for the precise etc repositories, but it's
available on the webupd8 ppa by doing:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/rhythmbox

and then sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Ton of other bug fixes done too it seems! :) Problem solved, guys!

Daniel, I understand why Unity is doing that, but that leads to a

[Bug 986248] [NEW] Nautilus tree view won't collapse right after expand

2012-04-20 Thread Anthony
Public bug reported:

When using the tree view in the sidebar in Nautilus, if you click on the
triangle next to a folder to expand it and keep the pointer over the
triangle, no amount of additional clicking on the triangle will then
collapse the folder. However, if you briefly move the mouse off of the
triangle (even just slightly) and then back onto the triangle, you can
then collapse the folder again. This is annoying when you want to
quickly expand a folder to see its subfolders and then immediately
collapse again.

Attached is a screen recording showing the problem. Although you cannot
tell from the video, when I am holding the pointer over the triangle
next to the expanded folder, I am repeatedly clicking on it, but nothing
is happening -- then as soon as I move the pointer away and back again,
clicking does collapse the folder.

[Bug 984082] [NEW] Evince produces low-res, pixelated output when printing PDF's

2012-04-17 Thread Anthony Hertzler
Public bug reported:

Since an update to Precise on or about April 6th, 2012, most PDF's
printed from evince print with bad quality, pixellated fonts. Some
embedded graphics are also affected, although I haven't been able to
determine a pattern in which ones. PDF's print fine from acroread and
Okular. I've checked all my print settings in evince and everything
looks correct.

[Bug 947808] Re: Can't see the webcam video during OOBE steps

2012-03-07 Thread Anthony Wong
** Description changed:

+ SRU Justification
+ =
+
  [Impact]
Some webcams (cheese) don't work due to fatal error when querying attributes
that camera driver does not supported, and for them they are not working during
the OOBE capture picture step. It happens on some HP and Dell notebooks.
Devices affected include 0c45:6448 and 064e:e28a.

  [Development Fix]
  Already fixed in 0.10.31-1ubuntu1

  [Test Case]
Test with cheese to make sure video can be recorded.

  [Regression Potential]
Unlikely to have regression, as the change is minimal, by changing error into
logging a warning in the debug log and move on.

  Summary:

User can not see webcam video in OOBE

v4l2c reported that camera is not functional when querying a controller
is not supported by camera driver/device. In this case, UbiquityWebcam
can not change camer2bin2 to PLAY status that the camerabin2 pipeline
construction is failed because it querys a not-supported control

  Step To Reproduce

  1. Install Ubuntu
  2. A dialog shows to ask User pick a picture or take a picture as his avatar

[Bug 860436] Re: It appears two mirror mode while boot up with VGA/HDMI cable and then press FN+F3 to switch display mode

2012-03-05 Thread Anthony Wong
Here are testing steps

0. Link machine with external monitor via D-sub
1. Clean install oneiric
2. sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
3. reboot and testing Fn+F3 and the behaviour is

mirror mode - mirror mode - internal only - external only

4. sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ayan/gnome-settings-daemon
5. sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

3 packages update: gnome-desktop3-data gnome-settings-daemon
libgnome-desktop-3-2
the version is 3.2.1-0ubuntu1.3~ayan1

6. reboot and testing Fn+F3 and the behaviour is

when hit Fn+F3, the unity dash appear or disappear always, and
video mode is not changed.

Looks like the patch disable the super-p detection.

[Bug 811475] Re: Descender letters (g j p q y) get their tail cut off in current song

2012-02-25 Thread Anthony Harrington
Further to my duplicate report,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/920587

i propose that either the 'Now playing x' information, or the bar which
moves as the song plays, should be moved to the empty space highlighted
in orange on my last image, freeing up more room to show more contents
of the library etc

It seems inefficient to have an large empty space sitting there, when we
have this problem.

I've tried changing font and font sizes, but this problem rests solely
with rhythmbox. The bar that moves when a song plays makes longer
letters in the song name totally illegible.

[Bug 920587] Re: Now playing information gets pushed behind the playing bar

2012-02-24 Thread Anthony Harrington
The space in orange is prime real estate for the Now playing x
information really, leaving the progress bar where it is, though
slightly up, which in turn means fitting more library information on the
screen when maximised.

[Bug 920587] Re: Now playing information gets pushed behind the playing bar

2012-02-10 Thread Anthony Harrington
The top part, above the now playing bar, actually has some unused space
- this could hold the bar which moves, as the song progresses, leaving
the 'now playing x by x' information legible.

This is a vital but easy to fix bug; i'm tempted to mess around with the
code myself but i profess a sincere lack of experience :P

[Bug 920587] [NEW] Now playing information gets pushed behind the position bar

2012-01-23 Thread Anthony Harrington
Public bug reported:

A cosmetic issue exists in rhythmbox. I hope to attach a picture but
basically, when you play a song and the information comes up

e.g. Switchyard by From Software from Armored Core 2: Another Age

all the 'y's, 'g's etc get hidden by the top part of the playing bar and
it looks sloppy and in some cases makes reading what's playing
difficult.

Can we put a few more pixels distance between the text and the playing bar or
something?
Or perhaps have the text part drawn on top of the playing bar instead of vice
versa, to avoid this kind of thing?

[Bug 920587] Re: Now playing information gets pushed behind the position bar

2012-01-23 Thread Anthony Harrington
Example of the problem attached

** Attachment added: Text gets obscured by bar

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/920587/+attachment/2689358/+files/rhythmbox%20problem.png

** Tags removed: loading now obscured
** Tags added: bar obscures

** Description changed:

A cosmetic issue exists in rhythmbox. I hope to attach a picture but
basically, when you play a song and the information comes up

e.g. Switchyard by From Software from Armored Core 2: Another Age

- all the 'y's, 'g's etc get hidden by the top part of the position bar
- and it looks sloppy and in some cases makes reading what's playing
+ all the 'y's, 'g's etc get hidden by the top part of the playing bar and
+ it looks sloppy and in some cases makes reading what's playing
  difficult.

- Can we put a few more pixels distance between the text and the position bar
or something?
- Or perhaps have the text part drawn on top of the position bar instead of
vice versa, to avoid this kind of thing?

[Bug 909039] [NEW] Evince hangs on opening a particular pdf

2011-12-27 Thread Anthony Harrington
Public bug reported:

Fixes seem to have been released for similar bugs? But anyway:

I opened a 13 page pdf (3.1MB) (which was made in simple-scan) and for
some reason (first time i've seen this behaviour with evince), it slowed
the desktop to a crawl and evince didn't render any pages but kept
flashing blue. Caught the error by running it in the terminal. The
following was repeated:

** (evince:8705): DEBUG: raico_blur_apply(): invalid surface status
cairo context error: invalid value (typically too big) for the size of the
input (surface, pattern, etc.)

(evince:8705): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_from_surface: assertion
