Thank you for your bug report, could you get logs from those commands:
- gvfs-mount -lo when connecting the device
- gvfs-mount -li with the device connected
- udisk --dump

Not precisely...I made the command, plugged the device in, and the operation
was done before I could get the device plugged in. It lasted about 1/2 a
second. I did not get a udisk dump log, but I got this:
brandon@Theophage:~$ udisk --dump
No command 'udisk' found, did you mean:
Command 'udisks' from package 'udisks' (main)
Command 'fdisk' from package 'gnu-fdisk' (universe)

so you inserted your mp3 player while gvfs-mount -lo was running and
nothing displayed? can you get the udisk --dump log with it connected
and add the log to the bug?

[Bug 367097] Re: custom keyboard shortcut inactive on login

2009-07-30 Thread Brandon Williams
This is a problem with gnome + metacity + UNR (I don't know whether it
also happens without UNR). I believe that it is specific to some key
combinations. The only key combination that I am aware of that is
problematic is the one I indicated in the bug report. It might be a
problem for some others, too, I'm not sure.

[Bug 283447] Re: Undecorating maximised windows sometimes leaves a blank space below the window (Intrepid Jaunty)

2009-05-13 Thread Brandon Williams
In addition to synaptic, I also saw this problem in nautilus. If I
opened nautilus by clicking on one of the folders displayed by netbook-
launcher, I would see the empty space underneath the window. Maximizing
with the title-bar button was not enough to cover up the empty space.
Only clicking on the title bar and selecting maximize caused the window
to fill up all available space. At least, this is my recollection. Hope
this helps with the test case.

I'm not sure whether both calls to gconftool-2 were required. I will try
to remember to try this again later.

Oops ... no ... setxkbmap is not required, but both calls to gconftool-2
_are_ required. With only the one that Luca recommends, the workaround
does not achieve the desired effect.

[Bug 367097] Re: custom keyboard shortcut inactive on login

2009-04-26 Thread Brandon Williams
I experimented a little more and discovered that, no, setxkbmap is not
required. The two calls to gconftool-2 are enough to enable the desired
shortcut.

[Bug 367097] [NEW] custom keyboard shortcut inactive on login

2009-04-25 Thread Brandon Williams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

On the Dell mini, the wireless key (Fn+2) issues keycode 171,
XF86AudioNext. I have configured a 'Custom Shortcut' with the 'Keyboard
Shortcuts' capplet that should run a command to toggle the WLAN state
when I press the wireless key. This shortcut is inactive after I log in.
If I open the 'Keyboard Shortcuts' capplet, change the short key, and
then change it back to XF86AudioNext, the wireless key functions as
expected in this session. However, if I log out and log back in, the
shortcut key no longer functions and I have to re-enable again in the
capplet.

[Bug 367097] Re: custom keyboard shortcut inactive on login

2009-04-25 Thread Brandon Williams
As a work-around, I wrote this script:

#!/bin/sh
setxkbmap
gconftool-2 --set --type=string /desktop/gnome/keybindings/custom0/binding
XF86WLAN
gconftool-2 --set --type=string /desktop/gnome/keybindings/custom0/binding
XF86AudioNext

I then configured the script to run at login using the 'Startup
Applications' capplet. Neither setxkbmap nor the set/reset operation on
its own appeared to be adequate. Both were required.

[Bug 316101] [NEW] gdm fails to launch gdmgreeter and gdmlogin

2009-01-11 Thread Brandon Williams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

I believe the bug is in the gdm package, but it could be pango and/or
fontconfig (see attached DEBUG logs for gdm).

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release:8.04

$ apt-cache policy gdm
gdm:
  Installed: 2.20.7-0ubuntu1.1
  Candidate: 2.20.7-0ubuntu1.1
  Version table:
 *** 2.20.7-0ubuntu1.1 0
500 http://debian.akamai.com hardy-updates/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.20.5-0ubuntu3 0
500 http://debian.akamai.com hardy/main Packages

I recently (12/12/2008) upgraded from 07.10 to 08.04. Prior to the
upgrade, gdm was working correctly. After the upgrade, gdm started
correctly following the first reboot into 08.04. At some point over the
next week, I used update-manager to upgrade a small number of packages,
and then rebooted the machine as instructed by update-manager. After
this reboot, gdm would not start. An error dialog appears, but I cannot
read it ... the text is displayed as character sized rectangles.

I eventually ran gdm with debug logging enabled, and I am attaching the
relevant portions of messages and syslog. The log appears to indicate
that there is a problem with pango and/or font config. It also indicates
that the error dialog is telling me that it cannot start the greeter.

I can use startx from the command line. I am also able to run xdm, and
so can use a graphical login. The pango problem indicated in the log
file for gdm does not appear to effect either the gnome desktop or the
xfce desktop.

[Bug 12153] Re: Cannot use Windows key in keyboard shortcuts

2007-03-25 Thread Brandon Williams
I'm having this problem in the latest Feisty beta, and even the gconf-
editor work-around seems to not function anymore. I'm using xbindkeys as
a fallback but the problem seems to be getting worse...

[Bug 63761] English Grammar / Typos in 'Replace customized configuration file' dialog

2006-10-03 Thread Brandon Williams
Public bug reported:

When performing a Distribution Upgrade, a title-less dialog pops up
with the following text:

Replace the customized configuration file '/etc/qt3/qt_plugins_3.3rc'?

You will loose all customizations, that have been made by yourself or by
a script, if you replace the file by its latest version.

While the message is clear, there are a few grammatical errors that
would polish things off a little if fixed.

A cleaned up version of the string:

You will lose any changes you have made to this configuration file if
you choose to replace it with a newer version.
