2024-05-22 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 2066309

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

I've marked this report as INCOMPLETE, as no release details, package details
etc were provided. Once you've run the `apport-collect` command on your box,
please return the status to "New".

[Bug 2034672] Re: gnome-shell crashed with GLXBadDrawable on startup in a Xorg session

2023-09-13 Thread Chris Guiver
I attempted an install QA test of Ubuntu Desktop mantic daily (0908.2) on
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 8gb amd/ati rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt)

I didn't see the installer, briefly got one error message (didn't have
time to recognize/read), then screen went white with oh no, something
went wrong... and I was kicked from gnome..

I've tagged this bug report, as I got 502 server errors on ubuntu-bug;
and looking it looks like this is what I had anyway.

[Bug 2011751] Re: openbox crashed with SIGABRT

2023-03-21 Thread Chris Guiver
Aaron asked me to test his version via PPA

As noted in the original bug report; this bug was annoying... as was
hitting me often enough I stopped using Lubuntu & used Xfce & GNOME
instead while, before returning to LXQt though I replaced `openbox` as
WM with `xfwm4` (to avoid issues).

(note: times are likely AEST as I'm getting this detail from my hexchat
IRC logs; but if verification/UTC times are needed read
https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2023/03/20/%23lubuntu-devel.txt etc where
13:09:35 is recorded as [02:09] on irclogs.ubuntu.com)

Mar 20 12:53:24 OK, will push to a PPA and have available for
testing shortly.
Mar 20 12:54:19:) (but also followed by a rather quick :(
as that'll require me to make a change (to test) & then LOGOUT so I can
re-login; the logout is the :( )
Mar 20 13:09:35
https://launchpad.net/~arraybolt3/+archive/ubuntu/openbox

I installed the patched version on Aaron's PPA
---
openbox:
  Installed: 3.6.1-10ubuntu1~ppa1
  Candidate: 3.6.1-10ubuntu1~ppa1
  Version table:

---
Selected copy/pastes from my hexchat log
---
Mar 20 14:35:17quick play and no crashes (or FIRES!)
arraybolt3 ; I'll use normally; but I was getting openbox crash maybe hourly as
I recall prior to fix (why I switched to other DEs then swapped out openbox)..
currently using 3.6.1-10ubuntu1~ppa1

Mar 21 09:38:45fyi arraybolt3 , have had no openbox crashes...

Mar 22 13:14:28arraybolt3, another day & no openbox crashes...
(last was @Mar 16 09:46 my local time; then I switched to other DEs... then
back to LXQt but xfwm4 instead of openbox... been using openbox again since
your PPA)
---

I've been using my primary system since then without issue.

My usage is normal, I suspend at night then resume in the morning. I
rebooted system earlier today, logged in and returned to normal usage.

I have experienced no issues, system has been stable as I expect from
Lubuntu :)

[Bug 2011751] Re: openbox crashed with SIGABRT

2023-03-21 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

  Lubuntu lunar (primary box) on
  - dell [optiplex] 7050 (i5-6500, 16gb, intel hd530/i915)

I experienced a crash yesterday (openbox) but tend to ignore the first
crashes... Whilst using the machine again today a crash occurred.

This is my primary box, so my setup is pretty consistent

  - featherpad (restored session)
  - hexchat (irc)
  - qterminal (only single tab today; usually many)
  - firefox (snap, most sites excluding google related)
  - chromium (snap, used for anything google related)
  - telegram (snap)
  - element

I was using chromium full screen (trying to read my gmail inbox) when
borders around windows disappeared & I lost the capacity to switch
between windows; mouse would move, but keyboard appeared mostly dead (it
wasn't, more I think windows weren't responding, inc. clicks with mouse
- though that's likely inconsistent; I could work out how to describe it
- yesterday, but todays is almost identical).
+ though that's likely inconsistent; I could [not] work out how to
+ describe it yesterday, but todays is almost identical).

I switched to text terminal (ctrl+alt+f4) & explored; returned to GUI and used
  - ctrl+alt+t to open new terminal
  - openbox &

session returned to what I expect...

  ** expected outcome

  Openbox doesn't crash

  ** actual outcome

all windows lost borders, and i lost ability to switch between windows
I appeared to have minimal control (not true, more a fraction of what I
expect)

  ** How to get crash

  For me,

  - I used chromium (browser)
  - make chromium full screen (ie. F11)
- - click on something & right-click to open in new window
+ - click on link/something & right-click to open in new window
  OPENBOX CRASH.

[Bug 2009576] Re: ubuntu lunar live test; gnome shell c(rashed (according to /var/crash)

2023-03-07 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

- will add details when at real keyboard/mouse
+ Ubuntu lunar daily (LIVE) test on
+ - lenovo g560 (i5m-480, 4gb, i915)
+
+ Most of session went well; then screen just went black, a white segment
+ (window trying to draw? as large rectangle) then report of crash...
+
+ Reported against GNOME-SHELL due to .crash file in /var/crash.
+
+ Attempts to `ubuntu-bug _usr_bin_gnom` failed due to 502 PROXY
+ ERROR & inability to login... message led me to believe report would be
+ https://launchpad.net/bugs/2009260 but that maybe wrong)... this was
+ filed later on same box..
+
+ ** Expected result
+
+ No black screen followed by large white rectangle being drawn then crash
+ evidence on screen
+
+ ** Notes
+
+ I was having trouble with MOUSE operation on the device (esp clicks)..

[Bug 2002862] Re: Sound low please help me

2023-01-13 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

(You can convert this bug report into a question which is intended for
support queries, but you've filed this as a bug report)

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

Your log indicates you installed Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, are still using it
and haven't upgraded to a later release such as Ubuntu kinetic using
Ubuntu-release-upgrader. I've thus changed package to gnome-shell.
(apologies if still an incorrect package)

[Bug 1973393] Re: auto go to left or first page

2022-05-14 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The Brave browser is a 3rd party browser, and problems with that browser
should be reported to the developers of the application.

You mention the Ubuntu workspace, but which you like mean `gnome-shell`.
If it's occurring in other application besides the 3rd party brave-
browser it's not clear to me sorry.

I've marked this incomplete due to issue being with 3rd party package.
If the issue occurs within GNOME-SHELL or other windows and not just the
brave-browser; please return the status to "New" and change the package
to 'gnome-shell'.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future

[Bug 1964711] Re: Locked Ubuntu is frozen and cannot be unlocked

2022-03-13 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

You've not given details as to your actual install; was it a Ubuntu
Desktop 20.04 LTS or Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS?

You do mention moving mouse; a device not normally attached to servers,
so I'm assume (rightly/wrongly) you're asking about a desktop system -
but it's best if these details are provided.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1964711

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

(Note: this issue could be related to

[Bug 1960857] Re: gdm3 self-enables during upgrade

2022-02-14 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

Ubuntu Servers don't have GNOME or `gdm3` installed as they are desktop
packages. Your issue appears to have occurred because of packages added
to your system, thus you'd benefit more from support I suspect.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1960857

with Ubuntu by default, many require manual addition for some releases
of downstream OSes based on Ubuntu (eg. Linux Mint). You should check
with your distribution first.

(You've indicated it's a PPA package, which means this will likely be
made invalid as it's not a Ubuntu maintained package; unclear due to
apport detail missing; PPA package bug reports should be filed with the
maintainer of the package you are using)

[Bug 1930945] Re: ubuntu desktop - changing display configuration lost wallpaper (trap messages filled dmesg)

2021-07-21 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

Ubuntu Desktop Impish daily test on
- - - hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
+ - hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)

Changing display positions in settings. I have two monitors, one above
the other (so not the default).

I made change and it looked okay so I said keep. I noticed I was wrong
having TOP/BOTTOM displays the wrong way (detected via mouse movements
between displays) so I made another change of the TOP/BOTTOM displays in
"DISPLAYS" of GNOME settings clicked apply again & keep...

  ** Expected Results

On changing display orientation I expect wallpaper to be redrawn, or
  remain on screen

  ** Actual Results

I now have BLUE background on both displays.

(this was soon changing.. but that didn't occur until I tried to change
  wallpapers...)

/var/crash is empty... operation appears normal; I lost background.
lots of TRAP messages though fill `dmesg`

[Bug 1937157] Re: ubuntu impish daily - changing screen positions causes wallpaper to be replaced by strong-blue background

2021-07-21 Thread Chris Guiver
This is likely a (duplicate) issue - the top of my lower display has now
become "warped".

GNOME no longer has a Activities/PANEL at the top of the PRIMARY display.
I'm chasing another failure-to-boot issue currently so not spending time on
this sorry.

My display has ONE display (PRIMARY) below the secondary display
(secondary is at top)

[Bug 1937157] [NEW] ubuntu impish daily - changing screen positions causes wallpaper to be replaced by strong-blue background

2021-07-21 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu impish daily QA-test

Changing screen positions (Settings.Displays) causes the background
wallpaper to be replaced by a strong-blue color.

Opening windows from there causes it sometimes to turn black.

Using the Settings. Background allows me to restore a wallpaper on the
display

** Expected results

On changing screen positions (relative to each other); wallpaper remains
active

** Actual results

On changing screen positions (relative to each other); wallpaper
disappears leaving a strong-blue background. This background will soon
be replaced by black (on activity but not every function causes it)

(I realize you know this, but it fills details in the bug report,
provides the ISO date (ie. daily) etc)

Some additional details (explanation) may also be handy, eg. I had the
current Ubuntu daily running on the box besides me, and used `sudo
nautilus` to open a session & didn't encounter any issues. It maybe I
didn't do what you did, but few details were provided.

(I'm also running on a box used for QA-test installs so no real data
files to explore)

2021-07-10 Thread Chris Guiver
Ubuntu impish daily on
- hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600)

Settings -> About shows a RED rounded-edge box with lighter-red circle-X

This will be what @EoflaOE refers to.
It's NOT what I saw on my primary install (which was a debian logo).

Either way FIX has been released
Daily has 1:40.0-1ubuntu1 installed :(

Closed settings
Installed update (1:40.0-1ubuntu2)
Re-opened settings & UBUNTU LOG appears :)

Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you!

[Bug 1912536] Re: Gnome Disk Utility can't mount audio CDs

2021-01-20 Thread Chris Guiver
I grabbed a music CD (pink floyd, delicate sounds of thunder disc 2) and
inserted it into my hirsute system.

Response was identical to that described by OP, with my GNOME-DISKS
looking pretty much identical to the picture provided (excluding red
censorship, dvd drive model, size of disc etc or expected differences)

I have NOT clicked AFFECTS ME TOO, as I can't a reason why I'd want to
mount the drive with gnome-disks. A look at the Github
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-disk-utility) says

"GNOME Disks, gnome-disk-image-mounter and gsd-disk-utility-notify are
libraries and applications for dealing with storage devices."

A look at the `man gnome-disks` also doesn't convince me this is
something a user should expect.

"gnome-disks is the command to launch the GNOME Disks application. Disks
provides a way to inspect, format, partition and configure disks and
block devices."

Thus I'll confirm I get the same response in hirsute (3.38.1-1ubuntu1)
but I've not checked affects-me-too as I'm unsure it's a bug.

If `mounting` is an intended/expected feature it does impact me (but I
didn't see reference to `mount` in the man pages, except in the 'see
also' section which refers you to other utilities)

I have marked this bug report as incomplete, as I see only request for support,
and not an actual bug. If you believe I'm incorrect, please leave a message
explaining why (you'll then likely be asked to run apport-collect..) and you
can change the status back to "New".

FYI: There are reasons for the *depends* rules, and the bug report is
written like you're just trolling, so currently it's likely to get
closed.

You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html.

Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu
that you are using.

Thank you!
