Re: [Bug 139084] Re: Unsafe removal of drives says to Eject while context menu says Unmount
I completely understand that, having worked with Linux for ten years, but: #1) No one else who just started using Ubuntu knows that #2) The warning that a USB drive was unsafely removed tells the user to use Eject whiile the context menu uses Unmount. The directions are impossible to follow. This must be changed. It looks to the casual user like no one who makes the system actually cares about attention to detail. [Bug 139084] Unsafe removal of drives says to Eject while context menu says Unmount
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus The warning message when a drive is removed unsafely says to find the Eject entry in the context menu, but none exists. The context menu uses the word Unmount, which is tech speak and undiscoverable (see bug #28835). The advice given cannot be followed. One or the other needs to be changed. Which one doesn't matter since CDs can't be removed unsafely, so whether to keep the warning message as Eject is irrelevant. Click to focus, or whatever the default in Ubuntu is. No desktop effects or any 3D, actually (using an inegrated SIS chipset). And yes, it still occurs every time. I can't rename anything. I just managed to pull up the file URL box using / though. When I start to type, my mouse disappears unitl I move it again. The input method is set to X Input Method and can't be changed, either. Check. Without SCIM running, the behavior is normal. Re: [Bug 136255] Re: Nautilus doesn't accept keyboard input
1. I logged in to a recently updated machine. I created a new folder. I tried to type the name of the forlder. Nothing happened. 2. I expected what I typed to be entered into the field for the folder name. 3. Nothing happened. There was no input. Typing in other programs, however, worked fine. In trying to determine if it was a Nautilus bug or not, I opened the home folder and typed / which normally brings up a file path box. Nothing happened there, either. Hope this helps. [Bug 90318] Windows workgroups unusable when in Korean
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager I recently moved to Korea and am attempting to print to a network printer. Gnome-cups-manager reports only a few of the computers on the network. Some of the workgroup names and many of the computer names are in Korean. The non-ASCII names are not reported. This represents no problem to the Windows computers, who can communicate among the Korean workgroups well, but keeps me from using any network access for them. I suspect this problem would occur in other non-ASCII environments like Thai or Chinese. Originally using Edgy in Xubuntu, I installed ubuntu-desktop (and Gnome) to see if the problem lay with XFCE. Further exploration with findsmb and smbclient on the command line showed similar problems, so I suspect the issue goes quite deep into a library I wouldn't know about. Non-ASCII workgroups and hostnames are common in Windows environments in Asia. Ubuntu should be able to handle them.
