Re: [Bug 298755] Re: drag and drop desktop to folder hangs

2009-04-17 Thread DaveR
Just so happens that I trashed my system the other day and have a fresh
(formatted / partition - used same /home partition) install of 8.10.

I'm happy to report that this dd problem is no longer an issue - at
least on my system.

THANK YOU for your help. ;-) I do appreciate it.

Now if you could just make bug reporting a bit more transparent to the
user community. I'm sure that it makes sense to those of you who spend
your time fixing things - you work with it all the time. But users
don't. I fear that bugs go unreported or only appear on the forums for
that reason.

I've searched for that bug number and find that it doesn't exist.

How can I help you?

easy to reproduce it's better that you could send this directly to the

Yes it was. Any other drives shown would also have been mounted.
However the issue is NOT confined to USB drives. Anything above the
divider seems to be fair game although I have not yet seen Trash grab
the drag. Thanks for looking at this problem. I do appreciate it.

Please pardon my slow reply - I had some hardware issues - tried out
openSUSE - found I didn't like it - reinstalled and set-up Ubuntu 8.04
formatting both the '/' and '/home' partitions when I installed it. I'm
glad(?) to report that the same problem exists on a fresh install.

On the Screenshot attachment the window on the right (2 GB Media) is a
USB pen drive containing some of my back-up stuff. The window on the
left is my 'home' folder.
I had dragged a folder from the pen drive to 'home' passing over the '2
GB Media' shortcut seen highlighted in the side pane.
At that point the little d'n'd windowlet froze in place - I hit [Esc] a
few times hoping to cancel the operation - after perhaps half minute a
window popped up showing the copy progress - I clicked [cancel] and
closed the window - after about the same delay another window popped up
complaining that the system didn't get a signal (from the copy
operation?) which I closed - I could then go on.

I've attached the output from the Sysinfo application for your reading
enjoyment.

[Bug 298755] [NEW] drag and drop desktop to folder hangs

2008-11-16 Thread DaveR
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

With nautilus displaying folders and the side pane displayed if I drag a
file from the desktop to a folder and pass over any area of the side
pane that contains text the drag freezes and Nautilus tries to drop the
file in the / folder. In order to successfully complete the d 'n d
operation I have to pass over a blank area of the side pane. I expect
to be able to complete the d'n d operation successfully no matter what
the drag passes over on the way to the destination.

Ubuntu 8.04.01 release 8.04 - Nautilus 2.22.5.1

This behavior is annoying but not earth shattering and should be on the
list of things to fix.

[Bug 207921] Re: Nautilus error during Gnome startup

2008-06-01 Thread DaveR
As I see it it IS a bug!

Here's what happens (3 times since upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04) after login
as the final screen is being painted the mentioned error window appears.
In each case I've (1) taken a screenshot and (2) saved it to the desktop
intending to file a bug. Saving shouldn't work should it? In the
process of performing that action the problem somehow disappears and
start-up continues to normal completion.

I've attached a screenshot perhaps that will convince someone that there
IS a problem.

This is a real classic of obfuscation - only the developer could hope to
understand the message!

[Bug 58382] Re: [Bug 58382] Re: Restore from Suspend creates problems

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 49221 ***

This has nothing to do with hibernation! That's a whole 'nuther issue.

Suspend retains enough processor awareness to refresh memory and respond
to interrupts while hibernation dumps everything to disk and shuts down.

How would I know where sendmail is located much less the path to it??
Why can't the program figure it out - its yours - you put it somewhere
not I. For that matter I don't even know what sendmail is.
