[Bug 1284043] Re: udev renaming the same hardware network i/f to different name, breaks networking and firewall

2014-04-05 Thread Huygens
Sorry, but as there was no counter argument why this could have been indeed a
duplicate, I have taken the liberty to revert the change.
Please, if you still think it is a duplicate, first try to argument why. Once
we agree, then we can find the right conclusion for this bug.
:-)
Sincerely yours.

[Bug 1284043] [NEW] udev renaming the same hardware network i/f to different name, breaks networking and firewall

2014-02-24 Thread Huygens
Public bug reported:

My installation of Ubuntu Server 14.04 is bare metal (no
virtualisation). The hardware box contains 3 network interfaces, one
broadcom (not yet used) and two intel (actually one PCIe network card
with 2 ports, one is currently used).

The MAC address of the intel network card is not changed, it is the
stock MAC address. When installing Ubuntu, I choose the interface p1p2
from the Intel network card as default (and only) network interface.
This is the only port at the moment with an Ethernet cable.

Last Friday I got my Btrfs filesystem corrupted, I had to do a hard
reset. I thereafter upgraded to the latest kernel version (3.13.0-11,
but was 3.13.0-8 before the crash). I do not know if this is something
related but since then when rebooting I have no network. The reason
being that udev decides to rename eth1 (the 2nd port of the intel card)
to rename4 instead of p1p2. The problem is that my
/etc/network/interfaces as only p1p2 configured, no rename4, this means
that booting is slowed down because Ubuntu waits for p1p2 to appear
but it won't happen as udev decide on a different naming. And once
finally booted, ifconfig only reports the loopback interface, of course
rename4 is not configured. Now after a power cycle or simply a reboot,
sometimes udev switch back to the expected network naming so p1p2.

As a work around I had declared both p1p2 and rename4 in my interfaces
configuration file, using the same settings for both. I had to duplicate
the firewall rules so that they could be applied to either interfaces.
The problem is that it is slowing the boot process (it is waiting 60
seconds to try to configure all network interfaces) and obviously I am
ending up with either p1p2 or rename4 but not both, so each boot I have
to wait.

I discarded the work around and only have p1p2 configured now and I am
rebooting the machine when rename4 is selected by udev (rebooting
until I get p1p2).

Note: it is possible that the problem was present since the beginning,
but I almost did not reboot the system between the installation and the
kernel update last Friday, so I cannot tell for sure if this was not
existing already. Furthermore, I have tried also kernel 3.14-rc3 and I
also have the problem. Finally, /var/log/dpkg.log does not report any
udev update since initial installation.

[Bug 153301] Re: weather applet won't use automatic-proxy-configuration

2010-11-04 Thread Huygens
Same thing as with Olivier, the applet is no more using the Automatic
proxy settings, or perhaps the Gnome Proxy Settings are broken because
most application do not see the proxy configuration when using it in
automatic mode. I say most because the only exception that do work are
Firefox and Chromium, all other apps are broken :-(

Using Ubuntu 10.04 64bit with latest updates.

[Bug 587097] Re: Proxy auto-config (PAC) not usable by some applications

2010-11-04 Thread Huygens
I can test it on Maverick, if you like, but I'm on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and do not
wish to upgrade for awhile (that the purpose of an LTS) as I'm using it for
work.
So I can make the test, but then a fix is required to be backported to 10.04
and I would suggest to any supported Ubuntu release already out and having the
bug.

[Bug 433827] Re: Regression: Automatic proxy configuration + gnome-terminal now breaks apt-get, curl, wget...

2010-11-04 Thread Huygens
I don't know if my problem is similar or not, but here are the details:

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with latest updates.

At work, we use a proxy and we have an automatic script for that. This
is handy so when I'm home, it does not find the script and no proxy is
configured which is what I want.

Anyway, I performed the above steps described in this bug report: configuration
automatic proxy, applying it system wide, launching gnome-terminal and echoing
$http_proxy or even $HTTP_PROXY.
The result is that none of the env variables are defined!

So many applications are broken: weather applet, wget, Update Manager,
Ubuntu Software Centre, Eclipse, etc. actually it's easier to give the
list of application working with this: Firefox and Chromium.

So this bug is critical in my opinion! Or maybe the new bug that I would
need to open if it is not directly related. ;-)

[Bug 587097] Re: Proxy auto-config (PAC) not usable by some applications

2010-11-04 Thread Huygens
Same same and no differences on Ubuntu 10.10 :-(

On Ubuntu 10.10
With manual configuration: weather-applet and Firefox work, Empathy and Pidgin
do not work (this is a regression for Pidgin)
With automatic configuration: only Firefox works, weather-applet, Empathy and
Pidgin do not work!

Exactly similar to Ubuntu 10.04

Note: for Empathy and Pidgin tests I've used a jabber account (actually
google talk).

[Bug 562921] [NEW] Clock panel applet crashed while checking the calendar

2010-04-14 Thread Huygens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I have Evolution configured to use an Exchange Server 5.5 (thus I'm
using the package evolution-mapi to be able to configure Evolution).
Thus evolution has access to my Exchange Calendar.

It seems that this configuration makes the Clock applet crashing. Here are the
steps to reproduce it (prerequisite having an Evolution using evolution-mapi
package).
Click on the clock applet, select one of the day highlighted in bold. It
crashes.

Note: sometimes when I click on the applet, the dropdown which
displays the calendar, etc. is not displayed, it seems that the clock
applet freezes.

[Bug 508632] Re: Toggle button for Nautilus location field gone

2010-03-24 Thread Huygens
The problem with Ctrl+L is that this is not ergonomic, because you cannot find
out (apart by going to a forum or bug report like this one) by yourself.
When you want to do this, you are just going to fiddle around with the mouse to
find a way to copy the path or paste it. If it is not obvious the reaction will
most probably be (but I have made no investigation on that) unhappy users who
will write by hand the path in their e-mail or just use the up buttons and
folders to go to the right path.
Before, with the button, it was not obvious either, but just by looking around
you could find it easily. The same happen to me on Win7, I had to use it once
at work, and I needed to copy the path to send it to someone, just a small
fiddling and I found out (I already forgot, but that does not matter as it as
easy to find) how to switch to text base pathname.

So now that I know that Ctrl+L could do the trick, I'm fine, because I know.
The problem is the ergonomics behind that. There is clearly no way to find out
this shortcut! And there is no other way to do it.
Therefore, this is not minimalist, this is subminimalist (implying
unergonomics).

PS: I'm not against the idea that only Ctrl+L is neccessary to switch.
But I am for the idea that there should be a way to find that out
without requiring Google or a forum help.

[Bug 508632] Re: Toggle button for Nautilus location field gone

2010-03-23 Thread Huygens
Accessing the text version of the path is sometimes necessary when you want to
copy in a email the full path to a directory. I even found out recently (I
don't have Windows at home) that although Win7 is having something similar to
the button you can easily toggle it to text to copy and paste it somewhere else.
This is not perhaps useful for a home internet user, however at work I use it
quite often.

[Bug 519495] [NEW] palimpsest (gnome-disk-utility) cannot create JFS partitions

2010-02-09 Thread Huygens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

I was trying to use palimpsest from the gnome-disk-utility package to create a
JFS partitions on my external hard drive. However, palimpsest does not offer
JFS for filesystem. It offers ext2-4, XFS, FAT, NTFS and some other uncommon
filesystems like the one for BeOS!
I had to install gparted to format my drive in JFS!

Note: during Ubuntu installation, it is possible to choose JFS, which is
my default filesystem for / and /home. It is thus even more surprising
that palimpsest does not offer this possibility.

The expected behaviour:
I should be able to choose the same list of filesystem with palimpsest than the
ones offered during Ubuntu installation (so including JFS) + a few others of
course like NTFS, FAT, etc.

[Bug 470588] [NEW] Evolution crashes (ABORTED) when creating an account with evolution-mapi

2009-11-02 Thread Huygens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Context:
This bug report looks similar to Bug #338982 but it's diverging in several
ways: it receives the signal SIGABRT and not SIGSGEV; using the IP address
instead of the hostname does not solve the issue; I do not even get the chance
to enter my password. Furthermore, I'm using latest version of Ubuntu (9.10),
Evolution and evolution-mapi.

How to reproduce:
Create an account using the evolution-mapi connector and validate it. Evolution
crashes right away and on subsequent loads.

How to restore Evolution:
The only way to start again Evolution and use it, is to use gconf-editor and
manually deactivate the account...

Here is the GDB backtrace:
Core was generated by `evolution'.

[Bug 456450] [NEW] Evolution crashes silently regularly - segmentation fault

[Bug 360591] Re: Crash when doing a replace all: gedit crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_text_iter_set_offset()

2009-06-14 Thread Huygens
Just for information, here is my last comment on the bugzilla tracker:

I have perform the test with the same data on 3 other platforms since the bug
report:
 1. - latest Ubuntu Karmic Koala (future 9.10) 32bit
 2. - latest Ubuntu 9.04 32bit
 3. - latest Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS 32bit

The crash has been reproduced with platform 1 and 2. However, with
platform 3, there was no crash (though the CPU was as high as 100% for
several seconds). On platform 3, gedit is in version 2.22.3.

Just as a reminder, the platform used for the initial bug report was
Ubuntu 9.04 64bit.

Hello Sebastien,
You can find attached here the backtrace of gedit during the crash.
About the retracer, do you mean that it is a launchpad feature that will
analyse the coredumped, create a backtrace from it, delete the coredumped and
then will make public the bug report? That's a great feature!

The next time I'm home and using my computer, I will try to reproduce the bug
and generate a stack trace that is usable for you and that does not contain
sensitive information.
One note though, if you have a wordpress blog, try to export the entire
wordpress database (only the wordpress related table). Then from the SQL file,
open it with gedit and try to replace the wordpress table prefix with something
else using replace all.

[Bug 348650] [NEW] gvfs-hal-volume-monitor reporting incorrect sound state (Lenovo Thinkpad T500)

2009-03-25 Thread Huygens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

On a Thinkpad T500, there are 3 buttons to control the sound volume. One
mute/unmute button, one to raise the volume and one to lower it.

When using Ubuntu Jaunty alpha 4, the sound configuration was correctly
reported by the Gnome volume applet. When I pressed the mute button, the
sound was muted. When I pressed it again, the sound was on again at the
same volume. When I increased the volume, it was putting the volume on
and increasing it. etc.

Since then, there have been several updates, and I cannot tell which one broke
this behaviour.
What I can tell is that the Gnome volume applet is perfectly working, every
interactions I do with it as the correct output (mute/unmute, raise/lower the
sound). So I suspect HAL to be the origin of my problem because with the latest
Ubuntu Jaunty (as of 25th of March) the keyboard buttons do not work as
expected.

So here is the current behaviour.
- Initial state: sound is ON, volume around 70%
- Pressing the mute button: sound is OFF but Gnome volume applet does not
reflect that. This is the expected behaviour, but the neither the Notification
nor Gnome vol applet reflect the change.
- Pressing the mute button again: sound remain OFF, Gnome volume applet is
still showing the same state as before. No notification.
- Pressing the raise vol button: sound becomes ON and volume about 10%. Gnome
volume applet reflect correctly this state. The notification is displayed
showing the volume level. However, the expected behaviour would have been sound
ON and volume at 70% or 80%.
- Pressing the lower vol button: sound becomes OFF and volume 0%. Gnome volume
applet reflect correctly this and the notification also.
- Pressing the mute button: sound remains OFF, no display of notification no
change in Gnome vol. applet.
Using Gnome vol applet to unmute the sound and put the sound volume to 70%:
correct behaviour/output.
- Pressing the mute button: sound is OFF, but Gnome volume applet does not
reflect that. This is the expected behaviour, but the neither the Notification
nor Gnome vol applet reflect the change.
- Pressing the lower volume button: sound remain OFF. Gnome volume applet can
show that the sound is lower but not that it is off. The notification shows
that the sound is off but that the volume is 60% (see attached screenshot)
- Pressing the raise volume button: sound is ON. Gnome volume applet shows
correct information so does the notification too.

I say it again, but this was working properly with Jaunty alpha 4...
there has been a regression at some points.

I had also the problem with cropping in Gimp, but I agree that it could
be related to GTK as when I have visual effects on (compiz or whatever

resize a window, etc. while they are still some animations going on

[Bug 43572] Re: Dell Laptops don't talk to HAL about brightness correctly

2007-07-06 Thread Huygens
Roberto,
On my Dell D600, I could also use the Fn Keys to increase and decrease the
brightness, and the brightness applet was not working before too. After I have
performed the instructions, when I use those keys, it is behaving as before
(from an end user point of view). I mean, if I press once on decrease, it
decrease them once.
Also, the modification are easily undone. Basically, you install an updated
version of the libsmbios, and by using Synaptic, it is pretty easy to restore
the official version from Ubuntu 7.04.

[Bug 43572] Re: Dell Laptops don't talk to HAL about brightness correctly

2007-05-14 Thread Huygens
The HAL release, which includes the fix, is in the Gutsy Gibbon repository and
has been back-ported to Feisty.
However, even though the source code, which corresponds to the Ubuntu 7.04
back-ported package (0.5.9-1ubuntu2~feisty1, see
http://packages.ubuntu.com/feisty-backports/source/hal), includes the Dell LCD
brightness update, the LCD brightness dim on idle does not work after updating.

In other words, the HAL addon + the FDI (hal-info) files for the Dell
LCD brightness are missing from the Ubuntu deb binary packages that have
been back-ported. However, the Ubuntu source code for the package
clearly shows that the addon and FDI file are both present. I cannot
state anything for Gutsy Gibbon. Does anyone knows why hasn't it been
included in the binary package?

I wanted to compile the source code available
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/feisty-backports/source/hal), so I decompressed the
file and I applied the Feisty patch. Now, I do not know if there are some
special flags or third party libraries that are necessary to compile. Can
anyone point me at the commands required to compile HAL for Feisty (if
different than just ./configure make)?
Also, once compiled, is there a way that I can create a DEB package?

Maybe there is some documentation out there. If you happen to now where,
I would be more than glad :-)

[Bug 43572] Re: Dell Laptops don't talk to HAL about brightness correctly

2007-05-14 Thread Huygens
Thank you Erik. I have tried in parallel to compile the source package that I
had manually downloaded (including the patch). Roughly, here
(http://www.berthon.eu/wiki/foss:ubuntu:wikishelf:hal:feisty) is an history of
what I executed.
After rebooting, I issued the modprobe command to load the dcdbas module and
added the LCD brightness applet. It did not work (I guess this is due to the
problem you mentioned about the libsmbios version). It reset my brightness to
the minimum and I could not changed it after. Also the applet does not show the
current brightness level and is not able to raise or lower it.

I will wait for libsmbios to be backported from Gutsy. Do you know if
there is already a Live CD of Gutsy that I could play with?

Once again thank you for your very quick reply :-)

[Bug 107186] Re: [Feisty] Network Proxy function use the same proxy for all protocols does not work any more (regresssion)

2007-04-18 Thread Huygens
May I suggest that we raise this bug importance to medium? At least if
confirmed.
I mean that for mobile enterprise users who have to re-configure their proxy in
each new places (e.g. the one at work, potentially the one at the customer or
hotel, none at home) this is quite nice and an often used feature, and it
probably would be frustrating that it does not seem to work.
But I would agree that for home desktop user, this is probably never used.

(I also think it should be at least as important as this kind of bug:
Bug #43572)

But, just take it as a suggestion not even a recommendation or request
:-)

[Bug 107186] [Feisty] Network Proxy function use the same proxy for all protocols does not work any more (regresssion)

2007-04-17 Thread Huygens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

Steps to reproduce
Requirement: having a mandatory proxy to access the Internet. No other
connection allowed.
 - In System-Preferences-Network Proxy
 - Select Manual and use the same proxy for all protocols
 - Enter the proxy IP or host name and its port
 - Open Epiphany and try to access an address in HTTPS or FTP e.g.
https://help.ubuntu.com/

Behaviour
 - Epiphany try to load and load and load, but nothing happen and in the end we
have a time out page.
Note: Firefox (which does not use the Gnome Network proxy information but
internal settings) is able to access at the same time this address.

Expected behaviour
 - Epiphany should load the page

Analysis of the problem
 - Once use the same proxy for all protocols is selected, we can only specify
the HTTP proxy, but it should apply to all protocols
 - It does not apply to all protocol as all HTTP URL do work in Epiphany but
HTTPS or FTP URL do not work
 - Last week, this functionality was working, actually since I'm testing Feisty
this functionality has been working...

[Bug 106511] Connecting to a share drive where only the password is set does not work

2007-04-14 Thread Huygens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

This bug is issued after some exchanges in the forum around the thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=393034

The problem is solved by using a work around. I'm opening a bug on the
normal procedure which fails.

Basically and to summarise the discussion, there is a shared folder on
the network which only requires a password (like in the 90s), no user
name is set. It is not possible to browse this network folder nor to
attach it locally (Connect to server) using Nautilus tools. However,
Samba is working properly. When using the Samba command line tools, it
is possible the browse the folder and up-/down-load files. Also,
manually mounting using the 'mount' command does work.

When using Nautilus, if a user name is specified or not in the Connect to
server window, there is always the same error coming up: 320GB couldn't be
found. Perhaps it has recently been deleted.
Note: 320GB is the name of the shared folder.

This problem could be related with Bug 98658
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/98658/), however
in our case, the Samba tools are working properly.

PS: reading the entire thread is perhaps not necessary, only the first
posts and the latest ones (page 3) are probably enough.

[Bug 34112] Re: gnome programs don't respect ~/.cups/lpoptions

2007-04-04 Thread Huygens
Very weird, I have the problem yet again with evince 0.8 (Ubuntu Feisty Fawn).
My printer is an HP Laserjet 4345 and is configured in CUPS with the duplex
mode. I can print with OpenOffice.org or other applications with the two side
printed. However, if I open a PDF with Evince (the default), when I want to
print I have only the one-sided possibility for the two-sided option (in
Page set-up of the HP printer).
In all application I can print two-sided but Evince :-(

[Bug 101851] Filename is blanked when using save as or save link

2007-04-02 Thread Huygens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-core

Component problem: Gnome Save as dialog (I have guessed it might be
included in gnome-core package...)

Version: As of today, latest in feisty fawn

is reproducible: yes and easily

problem description:
Scenario 1:
Using Firefox, I select Save link as, the Save dialog window appear but the
current directory is not the intended one. I use the left pane of this dialog
to select my home directory (at that point the name of the file I intended to
save is cleared), the save button is not working until I figure out that the
file name is missing. After typing the file name it works.
Scenario 2:
I open a text file using Text Editor (gedit), and I select Save as, I want to
save it in another directory, I use the left pane of the dialog window to
change of directory, at that moment the filename is cleared and I have to
re-type it.

expected behaviour:
Scenario 1:
After changing of directory using the left pane of the dialog, the file name
should not be cleared, so hitting the save button would just save the file in
the newly chosen directory with the name of the link (if the link was pointing
to index.html and I had right clicked on it and chose Save link as, the saved
file name should be index.html)
Scenario 2:
After changing of directory and pressing save the text file should be saved
in the newly chosen directory with the same original name of the file.

[Bug 97424] Gimp crash while using save a copy as PNG

2007-03-28 Thread Huygens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Apport was unable to upload the crash report (timeout). But I wanted to save a
XCF as PNG, and I clicked on Save a copy.
The file selector dialogue box was displayed but partially, no text was
displayed, i-e all the widgets were displayed (like buttons, combo, etc.) but
the test of their content was not displayed (directory name, button label, etc.)
Then after a short while, Apport fired up and tried to upload the report.
I will in the next screen upload manually the content of /var/crash

[Bug 96024] [apport] serpentine crashed with AssertionError in _get_progress() so says apport, but the application is still running

2007-03-25 Thread Huygens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: serpentine

I do not know if the bug is on apport or on serpentine but here is what
happened.
I wanted to burn some MP3 to an audio CD, so I launched Serpentine and added
the required MP3 files (and I still had 11 minutes of free space). Then, I
inserted a blank CD, and said Ignore because Ubuntu was proposing me to build
an audio or data CD.
I then pressed burn. Serpentine was presenting a progress dialogue where it was
indicating that it was preparing the media files or so. At that point the
apport application was triggered telling me that Serpentine crashed, time I
went through the few screens of apport, I could hear that Serpentine was
starting burning. So I went checking the progress dialogue, it was correctly
showing the progress of the burning...
I decided to wait until the process is finished. The process finished
successfully, Serpentine is still working, my audio CD seems to work perfectly
(I'm listening to it at the moment).
So I still clicked on send a report from apport, because it seems that there is
a problem in apport... Or at least that is my point of view because Serpentine
is still 100% functional.

[Bug 90341] Re: Sound is displayed as mute after suspend/resume whereas it is not

2007-03-15 Thread Huygens
I have launched the command alsamixer, but I am unsure of what you mean by if
it is listed or not.
What I can see is:

Under Gnome in the top bar, I have a small icon for the sound. On
mouse over, it states Master: 22%

Under Gnome, in the Sound preferences window, I see Device: Intel
82801DB-ICH4 (Alsa mixer)

Under alsamixer, I see: Card: Intel 82801DB-ICH4 and there is one
control for a Master which is on 2323

I have a Gnome bugzilla account and I will report this bug there.

[Bug 92091] Re: Unsafe device removal warning pops-up after resuming from suspend

2007-03-15 Thread Huygens
OK here are the results of my new tests:

With all updates as of 2007/03/15 09h00 UTC, the bug is still present. I
mean that after suspend and resume, I still have a warning message
telling me that I had performed an unsafe removal of my external hard
disk.

I have tried to reproduce it with the previous kernel (2.6.20-9) and I
cannot reproduce the bug, so the problem is maybe not on HAL, but on the
kernel itself. To clarify things, for this particular test, I have
reboot the machine, at grub, I have selected previous kernel, starting
every thing else as usual. I have then perform the test to suspend and
resume the computer, and after the resume, I did not have the warning
about unsafe removal.

N.B.: I did not try to perform a similar test yet with a USB memory
stick...

[Bug 92091] Unsafe device removal warning pops-up after resuming from suspend

2007-03-14 Thread Huygens
Public bug reported:

It perhaps has some similarities with bug #73679
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-volume-
manager/+bug/73679) but is still quite different (at least from my point
of view) that I decide to report it in a separate bug.

What happens:
I have a USB hard disk (NTFS and read only) that is most of the time plugged on
my laptop.
My laptop is configured to go to sleep (suspend mode) after an hour. When I
resume the session (and since the update of today or yesterday) I get a warning
message that the external hard disk has not been properly removed. (see
attached screenshot)

How to reproduce:
Plug a USB external storage, put the computer in suspend mode, resume from the
suspend mode, log back to Gnome session and the bug is visible.

Impact:
Low: I am using the default ntfs driver in read only mode, so there is no data
loss. Also after a while (10-20 sec once logged back in the session) the drive
is detected again and mounted.

2007-03-10 Thread Huygens
I have the same problem with Ubuntu Feisty Fawn. I did not have it with
previous versions (6.06 and 6.10)
Strangely, it is displayed twice on my Gnome Desktop is the external hard drive
was already plugged in before I booted. However, if my Gnome session is already
started and I plug my external hard drive, it is shown once only.
You should notice that when I do 'df -k' my HD (1 partition only) is mounted
only once. But Gnome displays it twice on the desktop.

I do not know if it is of importance, but the partition is NTFS. It is
read only as this was how Ubuntu 6.06 mounted it and I did not change it
since (I have always performed upgrade)

[Bug 90341] Sound is displayed as mute after suspend/resume whereas it is not

2007-03-07 Thread Huygens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

This apply more specifically to the Gnome Volume Control applet that is
displayed by default near the datetime in the top bar of the Gnome Desktop.
The version of this applet is 2.17.90.
The problem is minor and cosmetic only. It occurs after the following sequence
of event: suspend resume.
After, resume the session is locked, when I unlock it using my user password, I
get the desktop back. The volume applet shows the sound as muted (whereas it
was not in this state before suspend).
However, it is not muted, I can hear sounds.
To come back to normal is pretty easy. A press on the mute sound special key of
my keyboard and the sound is now really muted (the display stay unchanged). A
second pressure on the same key brings back the sound to not muted and the
display is then correct.

[Bug 29832] Synaptic proxy

2006-03-27 Thread Huygens
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29832

Comment:
So I am using Ubuntu Dapper Flight 5 with all updates as of 26th of March 2006.
I have set up my proxy settings for the whole system, via the menu
System-Preferences-Network proxy.

Synaptic was unable to connect to the remote repository. However, after
modifying the Synaptic preferences (tab Network) with my correct proxy
settings, Synaptic was able to connect to the remote repositories.

My request is that I understand that Synaptics should be able to override the
system proxy settings. However, there should be a third options (now there are
only 2: Direct connection... and Manual proxy configuration). This third
option should be something similar to Use system network settings and should
be the default option.

Thus, Synaptic could use either the system settings, or define and override its
own network settings.

Cheers,
Huygens
