Ah. Should do a .7 for all the translation updates. How fast would you
need that to happen?

Did you patch it to use the gdk-pixbuf-webp loader? (If so, great, then
I don't have to do it) - if not and you took the patches from master,
it's not necessary, it decodes webp itself

[Bug 1800043] Re: nautilus cannot write on nfs file share

2019-01-07 Thread Jens Gollasch
I have the same problem, can't write to the 1st directory of nfs share in GUI.
Searched a day until found this thread here.
Coming from 14.04 to 16.04 and nemo 3.6.5 instead of nautilus (mint cinnamon
17.3->18.3). The same problem also consists with thunar.
So it should be a common bug.
Maybe a follow failure from another (gnome?)package, because with a fresh usb
stick (in my case mint 18.03) it works!

[Bug 1809813] [NEW] unable to configure additional keyboard

2018-12-26 Thread Jens Harms
Public bug reported:

After adding a second keyboard to my computer i tried to change the keyboard
layout. i want a "german" layout for my old keyboard and a "us" layout for my
new keyboard.
I tried to create a "inputclass" section in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.de" wich
sets "xkb_layout" to "us" by using "matchUSBID" but the settings do not work.

[Bug 1723857] Re: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen

2018-01-02 Thread Jens Forker
update to #49
even after installing 18.04 updates on Jan 2nd the following feature persists:
a few times a week the cursor goes nuts - it looks like it's jumping to the
lower left corner (gnome desktop), clicking, and thereby calling the program
tiles onto the screen. Then clicking again making the tiles disappear, clicking
again calling the tiles,. sometimes with quite a high frequency, turning
the laptop pretty much useless when it's "trapped" in this state. Whatever you
try it's always calling the tiles :-(
This happens even if I'm not touching the notebook at all!!
I couldn't find anything to influence this behavior. Even after rebooting it
continues! But at some random point in time the jumping stops and the notebook
can be used as before and works like a charm - until the jumping starts again.

Because I used the fix from @keringar (see above) the on screen keyboard
is not coming any more. But for me it looks that the root cause of the
osk popping up is the cursor jump/click.

[Bug 1723857] Re: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen

2017-12-15 Thread Jens Forker
update to my entry #47:
installed ubuntu 18.04 daily build from Dec 11, 2017 on the Lenovo IdeaPad/Yoga
2 13 with touch screen. For one day everything went fine except one single
appearance of the on screen keyboard (osk). On the second day the osk got
crazy, appearing that frequently that working with the mouse or touch screen
was practically impossible. But the cursor didn't jump (to lower left corner)
as it did with 17.04 and 17.10.
The osk sometimes flickered really fast giving the impression of being turned
on/off at least 10x/second - without me touching anything on the laptop!
Then I applied the fix provided by https://askubuntu.com/users/750621/keringar
(Thank you!!) and now I can use the laptop again.
Testing continues

[Bug 1723857] Re: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen

2017-12-11 Thread Jens Forker
Hello,
having the same problem on a Lenovo IdeaPad/Yoga 2 13 (with touch screen):
ubuntu 17.10 fresh install, the on screen keyboard (osk) always pops up. But
ALWAYS in conjunction with the cursor being found in the lower left corner.
On the same laptop running Ubuntu 16.04.3 and 17.04 (running Unity) I had the
nasty problem that always the trash bin opened (because the cursor jumped to
the lower left corner - where the trash bin is located - and clicked)
independent on what I was doing. That made the laptop unusable (running fine
under Win 8, hence no hardware defect).
Now with 17.10 (Gnome) the trash bin is no longer in the lower left corner. But
my feel is that the cursor is still jumping (and clicking) to the lower left,
thereby 'calling' the osk. Again this happens that frequently that the laptop
is unusable :-( really nasty.
Universal Access settings: osk = off (if I enable osk, then the desktop
freezes!!).
The fix of Keringar prevents the osk from popping up - but the cursor still
continues to jump to the lower left corner :-(.

[Bug 1716378] [NEW] No sensible diagnostics for expired certificates

2017-09-11 Thread Jens Finkhäuser
Public bug reported:

I had a running OpenVPN setup that one day "suddenly" failed to connect.
It took a while to figure out that the certificates I've been using had
expired.

Expected:
- An error message indicating that certificates expired.

Actual:
- Generic failure to connect error message.
- Generic OpenVPN log file contents.

It might be nice to check certificate validity before handing
certificates off to OpenVPN to use. If the certificate is expired, the
far more user friendly thing to do would be to show a specific error
bubble stating that's the case.

[Bug 1703428] [NEW] gnome-teminal settings: unable to hide menubar by default

2017-07-10 Thread Jens Elkner
Public bug reported:

In earlier gnome-terminal versions one was able to hide gnome-terminal
menubar by default using ProfileSettings - General - Show Menubar. This
setting is not available anymore and thus there seems to be no way to
hide the menubar by default. This is extremly annoyingly.

Env is xenial 16.04.2 (with gnome-terminal 3.18.3).

** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1314904] Re: Remote publishing does not work in Unity on trusty/utopic

2017-03-15 Thread Jens Georg
You are trying to create a new album. this is not supported anymore.
Recent versions of Shotwell (0.25.90) don't offer the option anymore.

If you want to create a new album, you have to do it in the Google
Photos web application first, then it appears in Shotwell

But this is not related to the original bug

2017-03-06 Thread Jens Georg
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1581180 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1581180

The problem isn't unity support (that's upstream) but UOA. That should
improve with 0.27, unfortunately I didn't find time to finish the UOA
implementation for 0.26.

[Bug 1578141] Re: Predictable interface names partially broken with igb driver

2016-05-06 Thread Dr. Jens Rosenboom
We have seen the issue only when deploying Xenial, installations running
Precise or Trusty do not seem to be affected.

Running with 4.6.0-040600rc6-generic has shown the same behaviour.

After doing the rmmod/modprobe cycle, I have now found the attached set
of messages in the output of "journalctl -x", so this seems to confirm
my suspicion of some bad interaction between kernel and systemd going
on.

2. Mark the entire 3rd paragraph and copy the text to the clipboard
3. Paste the text in an editor like mousepad

the text. Everything is ok til the 2nd word of the 3rd line, then the next word
should be "Sicherheitsvorteil" but "Früherkennung" in the 4th line gets marked

Früherkennung durch längere Zuwendungsdauern zum Scheinwerfer

[Bug 49348] Re: List view in Nautilus does not allow dragging a selection by mouse

2015-10-08 Thread Jens
It seems nothing is being done on this bug (or is this a duplicate and
the party is somewhere else?).

So if this cannot be considered a bug due to some formal or bureaucratic
reason, please tell us whether this has been fixed and/or implemented in
future Ubuntu releases. Rubberband selection in list views is such an
important basic operating system feature that people shake their heads
when trying Ubuntu for file management, as in "what do you mean this
doesn't work? Why not?"

If there is a big show stopper (as in, major bug in some dependant
library that nobody has figured out in eight years), please also tell
us.

Thank you!

[Bug 1451797] [NEW] rc.local should require network-online.target

2015-05-05 Thread Dr. Jens Rosenboom
Public bug reported:

The current definition in `/lib/systemd/system/rc-local.service` uses
`After=network.target`, which is pretty useless, as `network.target`
according to
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/NetworkTarget/ only has
relevance during shutdown, which never happens for rc.local.

The result is that tasks in rc.local may get started before the network
is properly setup, which may cause them to fail, as this is a
significant change from the old SysV init behaviour.

The solution would be to change the dependency to

Wants=network-online.target
After=network-online.target

see also the notes in
http://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.special.html for
that.

[Bug 1421100] [NEW] Printer produces white printouts for pages in landscape mode

2015-02-12 Thread Jens Herrmann
Public bug reported:

I have a pdf document with 6 pages where page 1 and 2 are in portrait
orientation, page 3-6 in landscape. When I try to print the document
with evince page 1 and 2 are printed correctly while pages 3-6 are white
paper.

Bursting the document and printing them as single page pdfs resulted in
white pages again. I was able to print the document with okular.

I use a Samsung ML-1640 connected to a Thinkpad T500 and was able to
reproduce the bug on a 2nd system a Dell D620 also connected to a
Samsung ML-1640.

[Bug 49348] Re: List view in Nautilus does not allow dragging a selection by mouse

2015-01-04 Thread Jens
It's not a feature that you would advertise if you were selling Ubuntu

This is not a feature, it is what is commonly called a hygiene factor in
engineering.
Hygiene factors are things that nobody notices when they exist but everybody
will complain about when they are missing or broken.
Selecting objects via rubberband (almost) everywhere but *especially* in the
file manager is so commonplace nowadays that this is an absolute must have.

This is THE single feature in file management that every single person I
introduced Ubuntu to complained about within ten minutes of usage. (In
contrast: absolutely nobody currently cares about touch features, where
a lot of effort seems to go.)

Please reconsider and prioritize.

[Bug 1309926] Re: gnome-shell crashes when enabling zoom

2014-08-28 Thread Jens Bremmekamp
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1292357 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1292357

You can easily (but very unoviously) recover from this horrible bug:

- Login to Gnome - oh no screen appears
- Press Ctrl + Alt + F3
- Login to the terminal with the same user as before
- run
DISPLAY=:0 gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.a11y.applications
screen-magnifier-enabled false
- run
sudo service lightdm restart
- Login to Gnome again and rejoice

Deleting the gnome config files, even creating a new user and trying to
log in with that one did exactly squat for me.

[Bug 1320132] [NEW] Evince crashes with segmentation fault

2014-05-16 Thread Jens Herrmann
Public bug reported:

1. Open the pdf attached

not help.

[Bug 775263] Re: Shotwell cannot claim USB Device (-53)

2014-05-03 Thread Jens Askengren
This is basically the problem described here:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+question/157569

Shotwell is supposed to popup a dialog asking you to unmount, however
there are cases where this doesn't work. You may have to unmount the
camera in Nautilus before starting Shotwell.

It applies to other MTP-devices as well, not just iPhone.

[Bug 1314904] [NEW] Remote publishing does not work in GNOME/XFCE on trusty

2014-05-01 Thread Jens Georg
Public bug reported:

When selecting another publishing destination than Piwigo, the dialog
closes itself.

In the console the following output can be seen:

21:38 z4nD4R (shotwell:12245): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **:
g_app_info_get_commandline: assertion 'G_IS_APP_INFO (appinfo)' failed
21:38 z4nD4R (shotwell:12245): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_spawn_command_line_async:
assertion 'command_line != NULL' failed

This is due to the UOA integration patch which is not installed on XFCE
or GNOME flavour.

Either the dependencies need to be fixed or a non-*OA version needs to
be provided.

[Bug 1291018] [NEW] Chromium/Firefox do not open iTunes (itmss:) URLs although Rhythmbox is installed

2014-03-11 Thread Jens
Public bug reported:

I have Rhythmbox and its Mozilla plugin installed, with (if I read
correctly) enables the use of iTunes podcast links.

However, when I click on such a link (example:
https://itunes.apple.com/de/podcast/swr3-gag-des-tages-
swr3.de/id268491259?mt=2), I do get a warning about starting Quicktime
7.6.6 Plugin and (if I accept) another warning about an external
protocol being opened with xdg-open, but after that, nothing happens.
In .xsession-errors I get

(totem-plugin-viewer:11017): Gdk-WARNING **: The GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS environment
variable is not supported in GTK3.
See the documentation for gdk_window_ensure_native() on how to get native
windows.
TotemEmbedded-Message: Viewer state: STOPPED

If I disable the Quicktime 7.6.6 Plugin, again nothing happens in the
GUI, and in .xsession-errors I get

gvfs-open:
itmss://itunes.apple.com/de/podcast/gerhard-schroder-uber-putin/id268491259?i=276468227mt=2ign-msr=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.de%2F:
Error opening location: location not supported
(Error wording might be a little different, I backported it from German)

I would expect Rhythmbox to open and import the podcast in question.
When I open Rhythmbox manually and click on Podcasts then on Import,
and paste the above URL, the podcast is imported and I can play it fine.

[Bug 1094744] Re: MS Sculpt Touch Mouse needs to be re-paired periodically

2014-01-02 Thread Jens Neumann
Adding device oui=7C:1E:52: type=mouse pin=/

to /usr/share/gnome-bluetooth/pin-code-database.xml

fixed the problem for me with the Microsoft Sculpt Touch Mouse on Ubuntu
12.04 LTS 32Bit.

Thanks for the help.

[Bug 1240850] [NEW] Typo in Timezone/City

2013-10-17 Thread Jens Finkhäuser
Public bug reported:

When selecting your location, the city of Munich in Bavaria/Germany is
recognized as Munic - that is not the correct spelling in English.
Alternatively, the German international spelling would be Muenchen, and
the German spelling München.

This is mildly frustrating only insofar as it takes a while to find the
recognized spelling for the place, which you need in order to set the
time zone correctly.

[Bug 1198201] [NEW] Nautilus creates thumbnails of 100MB videos although max size in settings is 10MB

2013-07-05 Thread Jens
Public bug reported:

Nautilus creates thumbnails of 100MB videos although max size in
settings is 10MB.

Does this maximum size setting only apply to images, or is this the
maximum amount of data to be read from a file until a thumbnail can be
created (for videos, probably only the first frame is needed)? I would
expect it to apply for all file types.

In my case these were .mp4 videos on a SMB share.

[Bug 1038812] Re: nautilus compact, icons views stop responding to touch clicks

2012-12-11 Thread Jens Harms
Why is importance set to low?
Because of this bug, ubuntu 12 with touchscreen is a NOGO!
BTW. maybe this has something to do with the: Coordinate Transformation
Matrix Bug. Using this (absolutely neccessary) setting leads to uncontrolled
cursor movements and unusable desktop.
