[Bug 1723857] Re: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen
update to #49 even after installing 18.04 updates on Jan 2nd the following feature persists: a few times a week the cursor goes nuts - it looks like it's jumping to the lower left corner (gnome desktop), clicking, and thereby calling the program tiles onto the screen. Then clicking again making the tiles disappear, clicking again calling the tiles,. sometimes with quite a high frequency, turning the laptop pretty much useless when it's "trapped" in this state. Whatever you try it's always calling the tiles :-( This happens even if I'm not touching the notebook at all!! I couldn't find anything to influence this behavior. Even after rebooting it continues! But at some random point in time the jumping stops and the notebook can be used as before and works like a charm - until the jumping starts again. Because I used the fix from @keringar (see above) the on screen keyboard is not coming any more. But for me it looks that the root cause of the osk popping up is the cursor jump/click. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1723857 Title: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1723857/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1723857] Re: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen
update to my entry #47: installed ubuntu 18.04 daily build from Dec 11, 2017 on the Lenovo IdeaPad/Yoga 2 13 with touch screen. For one day everything went fine except one single appearance of the on screen keyboard (osk). On the second day the osk got crazy, appearing that frequently that working with the mouse or touch screen was practically impossible. But the cursor didn't jump (to lower left corner) as it did with 17.04 and 17.10. The osk sometimes flickered really fast giving the impression of being turned on/off at least 10x/second - without me touching anything on the laptop! Then I applied the fix provided by https://askubuntu.com/users/750621/keringar (Thank you!!) and now I can use the laptop again. Testing continues -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1723857 Title: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1723857/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1723857] Re: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen
Hello, having the same problem on a Lenovo IdeaPad/Yoga 2 13 (with touch screen): ubuntu 17.10 fresh install, the on screen keyboard (osk) always pops up. But ALWAYS in conjunction with the cursor being found in the lower left corner. On the same laptop running Ubuntu 16.04.3 and 17.04 (running Unity) I had the nasty problem that always the trash bin opened (because the cursor jumped to the lower left corner - where the trash bin is located - and clicked) independent on what I was doing. That made the laptop unusable (running fine under Win 8, hence no hardware defect). Now with 17.10 (Gnome) the trash bin is no longer in the lower left corner. But my feel is that the cursor is still jumping (and clicking) to the lower left, thereby 'calling' the osk. Again this happens that frequently that the laptop is unusable :-( really nasty. Universal Access settings: osk = off (if I enable osk, then the desktop freezes!!). The fix of Keringar prevents the osk from popping up - but the cursor still continues to jump to the lower left corner :-(.

[Bug 49348] Re: List view in Nautilus does not allow dragging a selection by mouse
It seems nothing is being done on this bug (or is this a duplicate and the party is somewhere else?). So if this cannot be considered a bug due to some formal or bureaucratic reason, please tell us whether this has been fixed and/or implemented in future Ubuntu releases. Rubberband selection in list views is such an important basic operating system feature that people shake their heads when trying Ubuntu for file management, as in "what do you mean this doesn't work? Why not?" If there is a big show stopper (as in, major bug in some dependant library that nobody has figured out in eight years), please also tell us. [Bug 1451797] [NEW] rc.local should require network-online.target
Public bug reported: The current definition in `/lib/systemd/system/rc-local.service` uses `After=network.target`, which is pretty useless, as `network.target` according to http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/NetworkTarget/ only has relevance during shutdown, which never happens for rc.local. The result is that tasks in rc.local may get started before the network is properly setup, which may cause them to fail, as this is a significant change from the old SysV init behaviour. The solution would be to change the dependency to Wants=network-online.target After=network-online.target see also the notes in http://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.special.html for that. [Bug 49348] Re: List view in Nautilus does not allow dragging a selection by mouse
It's not a feature that you would advertise if you were selling Ubuntu This is not a feature, it is what is commonly called a hygiene factor in engineering. Hygiene factors are things that nobody notices when they exist but everybody will complain about when they are missing or broken. Selecting objects via rubberband (almost) everywhere but *especially* in the file manager is so commonplace nowadays that this is an absolute must have. This is THE single feature in file management that every single person I introduced Ubuntu to complained about within ten minutes of usage. Public bug reported: 1. Open the pdf attached 2. See evince crashing with segmentation fault I tried to deliver a backtrace but failed. [Bug 775263] Re: Shotwell cannot claim USB Device (-53)
This is basically the problem described here: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+question/157569 Shotwell is supposed to popup a dialog asking you to unmount, however there are cases where this doesn't work. You may have to unmount the camera in Nautilus before starting Shotwell. [Bug 1291018] [NEW] Chromium/Firefox do not open iTunes (itmss:) URLs although Rhythmbox is installed
Public bug reported: I have Rhythmbox and its Mozilla plugin installed, with (if I read correctly) enables the use of iTunes podcast links. However, when I click on such a link (example: https://itunes.apple.com/de/podcast/swr3-gag-des-tages- swr3.de/id268491259?mt=2), I do get a warning about starting Quicktime 7.6.6 Plugin and (if I accept) another warning about an external protocol being opened with xdg-open, but after that, nothing happens. In .xsession-errors I get (totem-plugin-viewer:11017): Gdk-WARNING **: The GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS environment variable is not supported in GTK3. See the documentation for gdk_window_ensure_native() on how to get native windows. TotemEmbedded-Message: Viewer state: STOPPED If I disable the Quicktime 7.6.6 Plugin, again nothing happens in the GUI, and in .xsession-errors I get gvfs-open: itmss://itunes.apple.com/de/podcast/gerhard-schroder-uber-putin/id268491259?i=276468227mt=2ign-msr=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.de%2F: Error opening location: location not supported (Error wording might be a little different, I backported it from German) I would expect Rhythmbox to open and import the podcast in question. When I open Rhythmbox manually and click on Podcasts then on Import, and paste the above URL, the podcast is imported and I can play it fine. [Bug 1240850] [NEW] Typo in Timezone/City
Public bug reported: When selecting your location, the city of Munich in Bavaria/Germany is recognized as Munic - that is not the correct spelling in English. Alternatively, the German international spelling would be Muenchen, and the German spelling München. [Bug 1198201] [NEW] Nautilus creates thumbnails of 100MB videos although max size in settings is 10MB
Public bug reported: Nautilus creates thumbnails of 100MB videos although max size in settings is 10MB. Does this maximum size setting only apply to images, or is this the maximum amount of data to be read from a file until a thumbnail can be created (for videos, probably only the first frame is needed)?
