[Bug 1078355] [NEW] Can't connect to Verizon 4g MiFi network
Public bug reported: Continuation with Dell Lattitude D600 initial setup. Lubuntu 12.04 did install (thank you) but would not configure the network and indicated that I need a piece of non-free firmware (tigon/tg3_tso.bin). Perhaps one of both is these issues are contributing to the next problem I encountered. I have a Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter(wnda3100v2) I was hoping to use to wifi enable this laptop that is otherwise not wifi ready. From everything I read however, it seems this card will not work with Linux. I've tried installing the software with no success. Also, Ubuntu doesn't acknowledge anything when I plug the card into a USB port. Unless someone can help with this(my preferred choice), I do have another alternative that holds some promise.. I also have a dongle that claims to work with a Linux OS. I can get the software from CD to PC and unzipped but can't confirm it is being setup/installed. When I plug in the dongle, Ubuntu recognizes there is a wireless connection available. In this case, it happens to be my Verizon 4G lte MiFi that's being detected but I assume if I can make this password protected connection then any free wifi should work. I think there is still a compatability or configuration problem that I can't get passed. I can't get authenticated and I'm very familier with the password for my MiFi card. It's not that the authentication fails but keeps cycling and asking me to input the password again, never connecting. ** Affects: gnome-nettool (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-nettool in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1078355 Title: Can't connect to Verizon 4g MiFi network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-nettool/+bug/1078355/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 879456] Re: Typeahead functionality for nautilus is broken
I can confirm the backspace problem. Besides that if you type the name of a folder and then press enter when the correct folder is selected, then the typeahead text-field does not disappear and its contents are not being cleared. So for example if I want to navigate to /usr/share (from /) then I normally do: - type us so that usr gets selected - press enter - type sh so that share gets selected - press enter What now happens: - I type us so that usr gets selected - I press enter - I'm in /usr/ but the type ahead text-field is still there and still contains us The funny thing is that I cannot clear the text-field using backspace since that brings me to the parent directory. I'm using a 32 bit version of Ubuntu and did not upgrade but a fresh installation. [Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768
I just checked the height of my modified window. It's 740 pixel. Assuming the default height of 24 pixels for the top and bottom gnome- panels that makes: 740 + 2*24 = 784. So unfortunately still 16 pixels too much to fit on a screen with height of 768 pixels :( But please give me feedback on my proposed solution and I can continue reducing the size of the preferences window. Note 1: In the evolution code I could nowhere find the code/glade-file for the generation of the When mail arrives part in the General tab. I found code for linking this UI-element to application parameters, but not the GUI-generation itself. Is there a separate Notification plugin that does this? Anyway one drawback of my solution would then be that when the notification plugin is not installed, the General tab would only contain the Delete part. Note 2: My modified plugin adds one new label to the GUI with the text Display. So this word also needs to be translated. However I think no work has to be done on this since all PO files already contain the msgid Display. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/23810 Title: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Okay here is a simple modification that makes the preferences window smaller. You can even try it without having to recompile evolution. What I did is the following: In the Mail Preferences part I added a new tab named Display from the General tab I then moved the Message Fonts part and Message Display part to the new Display tab. [Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768
Leo I understand your arguments that Ubuntu does not maintain Evolution but distributes it. However Evolution is the default mail client (including calendar manager/address book/etc.) of Ubuntu. Since such kind of application is used a lot it has a higher responsibility for the user experience. Other applications that carry higher responsibility are for example the web browser or file manager. I assume these applications are selected to be the default, because they match the Ubuntu philosophy. So when there is something in such an application that is in conflict with that philosophy, then it deserves more attention. You could say that fixing this bug is not the responsibility of the Ubuntu project, but then I think you forgot that Ubuntu is Open Source. Since Evolution is such an important application within the distribution, I think the Ubuntu project should collaborate with the Evolution project. So the person who is assigned to this bug should communicate with the Evolution developers to solve it. I assume there has been some communication, but apparently good not enough, otherwise the bug report would not still be open AFTER MORE THAN FIVE YEARS.
[Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768
I also would like to make a suggestion that could serve as a nice fix until the Evolution developers come up with a solution. This fix would require only adding a few lines of code: Go to the piece of code that creates the preferences window. Now add there code that creates a GtkScrolledWindow and GtkViewport and makes the GtkViewport the child of the GtkScrolledWindow. Now in the code there must be a line where a widget is made the child of the preferences window. Modify this line such that instead of making the window the parent of the widget, we make the GtkViewport the widget's parent. Finally you have to make the GtkScrolledWindow the child of the preferences window. As a result we will have a preferences window that can be resized to fit the screen: in the case where the window wouldn't fit before, the user can now use scrollbars.

[Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768
I don't understand either why the priority of this bug is that low. Is it because the bug does not cause any crash or unexpected behaviour? Is that the policy or what else is the reason? I think this is A BUG IN USABILITY, that affects many users. There are still many people with a vertical resolution = 768 pixels (also new laptop with wide screens). I know how to move a window without having to drag it via its title bar, but many people don't and it isn't very obvious how to do this. And even if many people knew how to do it, then still this is a bug. This is simply poor user interface design.

[Bug 287811] Re: Emptying Trash Fails with 'Error while expunging folder'
I've got the same error. Evolution seems to fail (in my case) because there is not enough free space on the hard disc to empty the trash (yes I know, that sounds very strange). After I removed some files from my hd, I was able to empty the trash. However after doing that the e-mail list of my Inbox was broken. [Bug 320153] [NEW] Evolution behaves unexpectedly after failing to empty the trash
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I wanted to empty my trash since my hard disc was full. However Evolution seems to fail to do this when the hd is full. So I removed some other files and then emptied my trash. After doing that, the list of e-mails in my inbox is fucked up (sorry for using that expression). When I select an e-mail in the list, the message window shows another e-mail than the one I selected. It seems that I get constantly the message that is 6 rows lower than the message I selected. I discovered that when I select a specific message, I see a message that I previously (before emptying the trash) moved to the trash.
