(1) Open terminal
(2) Run command

systemd-inhibit --what=idle:sleep --mode=block sleep 1h

(3) Wait

[Bug 1903449] [NEW] accountsservice displays "Libvirt Qemu"

2020-11-08 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

Installing libvirt-manager results in account libvirt-qemu being
created. This user has config in /etc/passwd like follows:

libvirt-qemu:x:64055:125:Libvirt
Qemu,,,:/var/lib/libvirt:/usr/sbin/nologin

The "nologin" should be pretty clear signal that this account is not
usable for logging in. Despite this, this account is offered in visual
login (e.g. lightdm). The computation for possible user accounts is
handled by package accountsservice.

A workaround is to manually list this user as system user:
echo -e "[User]\nSystemAccount=true" >
/var/lib/AccountsService/users/libvirt-qemu

However, as this user cannot be logged in (/etc/shadow contains "!" as
the password hash, too) it never makes any sense to show this in login
screen even without the above manual configuration.

Yeah, I think you should just hardcode xdg-open and then list only that.
Current implementation seems to be execute whatever is in the config and
that cannot be set in apparmor config.

[Bug 1602662] [NEW] "Open containing folder" does not work with Nemo (Cinnamon desktop)

2016-07-13 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

Cinnamon uses "Nemo" /usr/bin/nemo as the file browser and default
apparmor config is too strict and prevents "Open Containing Folder"
feature from working and instead an error message will appear:

Failed to execute child process "nemo" (Permission denied)"

A simple fix would be to add line

  /usr/bin/nemo Cx -> sanitized_helper,   # Cinnamon

below the line

  /usr/bin/thunar Cx -> sanitized_helper,   # XFCE

in file /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince

I'm still running Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS so I cannot test Natty right now.
However, I cannot reproduce with lucid anymore. I'm still using the same
harwdware but software has been upgraded to latest lucid plus I'm
running PREEMPT kernel.

As such, I would mark this as Works for me.

Additional note: the behavior of seahorse-tool hints that the tool
expects to verify only signatures that are detached from the original
file. If that's the case and seahorse-tool is not designed to handle
this case then nautilus is using incorrect utility for the attached
file.

[Bug 576333] [NEW] Terminal freezes/stalls randomly

2010-05-06 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Every now and then my gnome-terminal session (all Terminal windows)
freezes/stalls for minutes (usually somewhere between 2-5 minutes of
total unresponsiveness). This happens randomly and does not seem to be
related to the action done in Terminal.

The freeze shows up as non-responding Terminal window and compiz starts
rendering the window as black and white.

Opening xterm from ALT+F2 Run Application dialog works fine during the
freeze.

I installed appropriate debug symbols and attached gdb to gnome-terminal
process during a freeze. Here's the result:

[Bug 545121] Re: evince crashed with SIGSEGV in SampledFunction::transform()

2010-03-24 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
I think this was the PDF that caused the crash. At least I'm able to
reproduce some kind of crash with this PDF. I believe this is identical
to one linked from http://www.princexml.com/samples/#xtech
(http://www.princexml.com/howcome/2007/xtech/papers/output/0082-32.pdf).

I found this file from my /tmp with following command line (reproducing
here with a wish that somebody can reuse this):

$ cd /tmp
$ evince --quit; find | grep pdf | while read i ; do echo $i ; evince $i; sleep
1; done

Steps to reproduce the crash:
1) Open the attached PDF file in evince
2) Change pages rapidly (I'm able to reproduce the crash by quickly mouse
wheeling back and forth between pages 1-4).

It seems to be some kind of race condition because the crash does not
happen if I change pages slowly. The Zoom setting is Best fit.

[Bug 327872] Re: Broken support for AVCHD (MTS/M2TS)

2010-02-19 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Jean-François Fortin Tam: AVCHD is about H.264 codec but the codec
output is stored inside an MPEG transport stream and stored on media as
binary files (as explained on the wikipedia page you linked to). See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD#Specifications for details, notice
especially the part Stream type: MPEG transport stream.

A camcorder that stores the H.264 codec output in a .mov container is
not AVCHD conforming, if I've understood correctly.

H.264 codec works already fine with gstreamer, the problem is M2TS (or
.MTS in 8.3 file system) container format used to store the H.264 codec
output. VLC is already able to play H.264 stored inside M2TS container
modulo some bugs (such as not being able to correctly skip in the middle
of the file).

[Bug 327872] Re: Broken support for AVCHD (MTS/M2TS)

2010-02-19 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Jean-François Fortin Tam: You're right that HDV is a different format
from AVCHD. On the other hand, the letters HDV in the summary seems to
be short for high definition video contrary to HDV format which
officially does not have an explanation for the letters. I agree that
the use of letters HDV in this context is ambiguous and the summary
could do better without it.

[Bug 506323] [NEW] seahorse documentation should specify encryption used for protecting the passwords

2010-01-12 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

I cannot find any information about the encryption algorithm used to protect
the stored passwords. The only hint about any real encryption is output of
$ file ~/.gnome2/keyrings/login.keyring
[...] GNOME keyring, major version 0, minor version 0, crypto type 0 (AEL) [...]

Where is the AEL encryption documented? I guess that this is not just a
typo for AES...

[Bug 108872] Re: ask for confirmation when changing passphrase

2009-11-02 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Any progress on this bug? I accidentally hit this issue and I indeed
mistyped my passphrase while changing it. Luckily I was able to guess
the typo I made...

Also, the dialog for entering the existing passphrase before changing it
does not make clear which passphrase I should enter. If it's asking for
my current GPG passphrase, it should say so. Currently it says Enter
passphrase for 'John Doe john@domain.com'. It should say Enter
GPG passphrase ...

[Bug 321176] Re: [Jaunty] alarm-clock causes screen to freeze

2009-04-29 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
I don't care if the issue is in the alarm-clock, pygtk or somewhere
else. The fact is that if I select Applications - Add/Remove... and
search for an alarm clock I get package alarm-clock. If I then proceed
to install it and ever start it, my X session is immediately frozen.
Happens on both x86_64 and i386 variants. Luckily, I know how to kill
the application from another virtual terminal (I had to try killing
processes until I hit alarm-clock, though...). However, an average
Ubuntu user would think that the whole Ubuntu install just crashed.

Just upgrade, downgrade or remove the alarm-clock from the repositories
immediately. It's clear that the software was NEVER even started during
the release process of Jaunty! If *somebody* is able to successfully
start and use Alarm Clock in Jaunty, then put it into the repository.

[Bug 365964] [NEW] Run application text input expansion works incorrectly

2009-04-24 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Steps to reproduce:

1. sudo aptitude install sun-java6-jdk
2. press Alt+F2 to start Run application dialog of gnome-panel
3. Type j and wait for a few seconds (so that the list of icons have been
updated
4. Type c the input now reads jc[on] where the part between brackets is
selected (This is correct, possible choices are jconsole and jcontrol)
5. Type o

Expected results:

The input now reads jco[n] (the n is selected an will be overwritten
if I type anything)

Actual results:

The input now reads jcon (the n is not selected). This prevents me
from successfully launching the jconsole by typing jcons in the dialog
because after the jco part the input has been changed to jcon and
when I continue the rest of the program name (nsole) the end result is
jconnsole which obviously does not work.

Other information:

There seems to be some kind of race condition somewhere because
sometimes the n is correctly selected after jco part and sometimes
not. It seems that waiting after the j helps to reproduce the problem.

I haven't examined if the problem is caused by the fact that jconsole
can be found from the main menu (and so has an icon) and jcontrol
cannot be found from the main menu (and has no icon but application says
in the bottom Will run command: 'jcontrol' if I toggle the Show list
of known applications).

[Bug 365964] Re: Run application text input expansion works incorrectly

2009-04-24 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Did you try multiple times? As you can see, I'm also running jaunty. I'd
say that n is not selected about 4 times in 10. Because this seems to
be some kind of race condition, I'll report some extra information:

Possible factors: CPU speed, kernel, Xorg

$ uname -a
Linux semyol-329-b 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03 UTC
2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
$ cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep model name | uniq
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
$ dpkg-query --show xserver-xorg-video-intel
xserver-xorg-video-intel2:2.6.3-0ubuntu9

I agree that importance is low right now, but if the problem is more
visible with higher CPU speed, then it will be much more visible in the
future.

The issue seems to be also slightly easier to reproduce if you do not
close the dialog but after trying once, you clear the input with
backspace and type the letters again. In this case, it's easier to
reproduce if all letters (jco) are rapidly typed.

[Bug 137752] Re: Huge memory leak (about 1MB/s) selecting text

2007-09-07 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
As far as I can see, it happens with any PDF file (may be dependant on
PDF generator?).

I'll attach a PDF file generated by OpenOffice.org distributed with
Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. When I've the file saved on my desktop and I double
click it, evince opens. Running top displays 81976 for VIRT column for
evince. Selecting text between brackets (not including brackets) and
waiting a few seconds without selecting anything in any other
application causes evince to start eating memory. The attached test case
eats only about 100KB/s so I guess the actual speed of leak is
dependant on the PDF file size, complexity or the size of the selection.
After selecting all the text between brackets and waiting for a while,
top now displays 86128 for VIRT column for evince. As the system starts
swapping if I wait for long enough, I'm pretty sure that this is not a
bug in top displaying incorrect value for evince.

For this test case, memory leak seems to (usually?) stop if I select
something in some other application.

[Bug 137752] Re: Huge memory leak (about 1MB/s) selecting text

2007-09-07 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
I tried installing gs-gpl but I could not remove gs-esp because of
dependencies (I'd have to remove CUPS - I'll rather live without
evince). Running evince with both gs-gpl and gs-esp installed does have
the same problem. Can I get evince to use gs-gpl without removing the
gs-esp package?

Note that memory starts to leak only if I try to select text with mouse
so I'd guess that it has something to do with the GUI instead of being
just a problem with the library.

[Bug 137752] Huge memory leak (about 1MB/s) selecting text

2007-09-06 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Open any PDF and select some text by dragging around with left mouse
button pressed down. Evince starts eating memory about 1MB/s (or perhaps
a bit slower). I regognized the problem after an evince instance with a
8 page PDF file was consuming 1.5 GB of virtual memory and system
started to swap badly. If I never select any text, no memory is leaked.

This might be because of bug #75894 as I've also gs-esp instead of gs-
gpl.
