[Bug 1870795] Re: Appindicator not showing under wayland

2020-10-21 Thread Paul Broadhead
On a fully up to date install of Ubuntu focal, I confirmed that the bug
still existing using the current version gnome-shell-extension-
appindicator/33.1. I then installed and tested the new version gnome-
shell-extension-appindicator/33.1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 and can confirm the
bug no longer occurs with the steps outlined in the top description.

Thanks for the fix.

[Bug 1870795] Re: Appindicator not showing under wayland

2020-04-07 Thread Paul Broadhead
The journalctl output is very verbose and contains all my system information,
do you really want and need all that or is there a particular section? Below
is a portion that mentions app indicator. If I lock my screen, then unlock,
the output includes a few additional lines but nothing about app-indicator. My
only indicator is one I wrote myself:
https://launchpad.net/el-time-applet/appindicator
If there is another indicator you want me to test to rule out an error my part
then please let me know.
Thanks,
Paul

[Bug 1483707] [NEW] Rhythmbox crashes in source_rhythmbox.py during apport reporting of a bug

2015-08-11 Thread Paul Broadhead
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 15.04

rhythmbox:
  Installed: 3.1-1ubuntu3

[Bug 1008605] [NEW] Playback stops for particular track after 1 min 41 sec (repeatable)

2012-06-04 Thread Paul Broadhead
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

apt-cache policy rhythmbox
rhythmbox:
  Installed: 2.96-0ubuntu4
  Candidate: 2.96-0ubuntu4
  Version table:
 *** 2.96-0ubuntu4 0
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The track should play to completion, instead the track stops playing.

I have verified the track is not corrupted as it plays fine using /usr/bin/play
and verified it using:
 flac -t 3_-_Misty.flac

flac 1.2.1, Copyright (C) 2000,2001,2002,2003,2004,2005,2006,2007 Josh Coalson
flac comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. This is free software, and you are
welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions. Type `flac' for details.

3_-_Misty.flac: ok

The same happens on a different machine running the same version of
Ubuntu and rhythmbox with just this file in a new music database. I
have attached the output from rhythmbox --debug, selecting the track and
skipping to just before the problem, then exiting rhythmbox. If I skip
past the position of the problem the track plays to completion.

2010-07-21 Thread Paul Broadhead
I've commented on the upstream bug tracker. The patch did not fix the
crash for me but a simple additional check with the patch did fix the
crash. Looks like we getting close. As before, I still get the I/O
error messages.

I've attached the upstream patch and my hacked version that works for
me.

[Bug 501207] Re: sound-juicer, rhythmbox, nautilus crash at audio CD insertion

2010-06-23 Thread Paul Broadhead
In the above debug log, there are some value optimised out values, one
crucial value is that of num in the brasero_medium_read_CD_TEXT()
function that calls _next_CD_TEXT_pack() where the crash happens. This
sets the assumed size of the array who's access is causing the SEGV.
The value is 954437176 probably more that actually allocated. On
another machine running the same version of brasero, the value is 0. If
I prevent the call to _next_CD_TEXT_pack() then the crash does not
happen and the applications appear to function as expected. I'm not
sure what CD_TEXT actually is but the audio CD I have been trying
appears to no use it. I still get the I/O error messages of course. :

I think there is a low level problem with the CD driver that needs
fixing but the crash in brasero could possibly be prevented.

[Bug 501207] Re: sound-juicer, rhythmbox, nautilus crash at audio CD insertion

2010-06-22 Thread Paul Broadhead
I've compile brasero-2.30.1 from the sourcepackage, installed and done a
ldconfig. When I run sound-juicer through gdm I get the attached
debuglog output. Does this help? I'll happily do more to help fix this.

[Bug 283426] Re: New Login in a Window fails

2009-03-23 Thread Paul Broadhead
I must admit that I'm not very pleased with this bug being marked as
invalid. I know that the menu item needs an extra package before it
will work; it was me that identified the issue. However, as others have
said, why have an icon in your menus that does not work unless it is a
bug? At the very least, the error message should be changed to give
some hint as to what is required before this launcher will function.

Well I just found out that there is an xnest package which I did not
have installed. I installed the package and now the menu option and
gdmflexiserver --xnest works fine. May be there should be some
dependency on the xnest package or at least the gdmflexiserver error
message should be more informative.

[Bug 283426] Re: New Login in a Window fails

2008-10-29 Thread Paul Broadhead
  * Is this reproducible?
Yes every time.

  * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
Launch Application-system Tools-New Login in a Window icon or
gdmflexiserver --xnest from a terminal. gdmflexiserver no longer fails as
it did before.

 * Could you try using the current version? do you have the same issue using
other softwares?
I'm fully updated, gdm version is 2.20.8ubuntu3. Not sure what the second bit
is asking but I don't get this error for any other operation. However, I do
get the same error (terminal launch) when using the guest account so it appears
not to be a user configuration issue.

Could this be something to do with my screen resolution? The machine is
a laptop with (max) 1024x768 resolution.

[Bug 283426] [NEW] New Login in a Window fails

Public bug reported:

The Application-system Tools-New Login in a Window icon failed with
the following error dialogue:

The X server failed. Perhaps it is not configured well.

The same occurs if I run gdmflexiserver --xnest or just

enabled or disabled. Switching to an alternative login using the fast
user switch works fine.

[Bug 280948] Re: gnome-power-manager does not handle dimming of LCD backlighting correctly.

2008-10-09 Thread Paul Broadhead
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a
bug in gnome-power-manager.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the
Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are
having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at

[Bug 278299] Re: Intrepid: arrows in gnome menu?

2008-10-05 Thread Paul Broadhead
Thanks for the links Bernhard.

The first might well describe a genuine bug. It refers to the
top/bottom arrows that appear in menus when they are too long to fit
onto the screen; the reported behaviour is that the menu length is fine
but the arrows appear and you have to scroll up/down to see all the menu
entries. I'll have a hunt around to see if that bug had been reported
before.

The second refers to the small down arrow you get on the Menu Bar
panel applet icon. It is there I assume, to hint that the icon is
actually a menu but some folks obviously don't like it.

Again, I'm sorry if I misunderstand what you wrote, but neither of these
sound like what you reported.

What would you like to do with this bug report?

[Bug 278299] Re: Intrepid: arrows in gnome menu?

2008-10-04 Thread Paul Broadhead
The menu items with arrows to the right have sub-menus attached. There
is an icon to the left of the item. Hardy looks almost the same but but
in Intrepid, the arrow font is heavier. I have obviously misunderstood
what the problem is because I think things are just far as they are.

[Bug 248273] Re: Annoying beep sound

2008-08-10 Thread Paul Broadhead
I presume the tick box to the left is enabled? If you click the play
button do you get a short drum roll? The reason I'm asking about this
option is that if it is enabled but you have no sound specified, you get
a system beep instead.  I thought that might have been the cause;
clearly the problem is not that simple.

[Bug 241357] Re: Volume control applet's menu bar unable to reattach

2008-08-08 Thread Paul Broadhead
Thanks for reporting this bug which I can confirm. I have assigned it to the
package gnome-media.
The application you used to set the open was probably gconf-editor.

To restore the window menu you need to delete a file. Open the file
browser using Places-Home Folder and toggle the location bar to text
(the button is top left just below the menu bar). In the text line,
append /.gnome2 to the line (note the dot). In this folder you should
see a file called gnome-volume-control which can be safely deleted
setting you menu option base to the default.

To switch the menu tearoff option off, you need to run the config-editor
again. Be careful, you can change many things using this application!
Press alt-F2 and type gconf-editor into the dialogue then click run.
Expand the desktop branch, scroll down and click on interface.
Scroll the right-hand window down until you can see
menus_have_tearoffs and then uncheck that option. Then just close
gconf-editor.

[Bug 229930] Re: panel applet quit FUBAR

2008-08-07 Thread Paul Broadhead
You might be able to restore the logout menu by changing a gnome-session
setting. Be careful with this application as you can change all kinds of
things... Press Alt-F2 and type gconf-editor into the dialogue box
then click run. Open the apps branch, then scroll down and open
gnome-session, then click on options. If the box beside the
logout_prompt option is blank, click it so that it contains a tick.
Now close the Configuration Editor and your logout menu should be
restored.
