[Bug 1800740] Re: /usr/share/applications/evolution-calendar.desktop Exec program 'evolution -c calendar' has not ben found in th PATH

2022-09-26 Thread Sean Davis
This error is displayed when the executable, in this case, `evolution`,
cannot be found in one of the directories defined in PATH. As Mike
Ferreira notes, evolution-calendar.desktop can exist but incorrectly
reference a non-installed application. In this case, the packaging
should be reviewed.

Marking gnome-shell affected since it ships this file.

$ apt-file search evolution-calendar.desktop

/usr/share/app-install/desktop/gnome-shell:evolution-calendar.desktop

[Bug 1930695] [NEW] Noto Fonts (without color emoji) break non-color emoji in QT applications

2021-06-03 Thread Sean Davis
Public bug reported:

Originally reported on: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/xubuntu-meta/+bug/1766976

> In a default fresh install of XUbuntu 20.04, Qt based applications, eg
Featherpad and Qt-Creator, will not display certain unicode characers,
eg, U+1F9C0 CHEESE WEDGE 燎 (a white rectangle is shown instead). Non Qt
apps, eg geany or gnome-terminal, show the cheese successfully. If Noto
fonts are manually uninstalled, then the problem is fixed; Featherpad
does display the cheese correctly. Conjecture: the Noto fonts were
providing a colour version of the cheese wedge; the Qt apps could not
display that but can display grey versions

Xubuntu does not include fonts-noto-color-emoji, but instead includes
fonts-symbola. While the Noto fonts are installed, Featherpad displays a
white rectangle instead of the B cheese wedge. Uninstalling the Noto
fonts leads Featherpad to display the correct emoji. I also tried
replacing fonts-symbola with fonts-noto-color-emoji, but to no avail.

[Bug 1762595] Re: Thunar incorrectly thinks USB storage device hasn't finished ejecting

2018-06-24 Thread Sean Davis
Packaging debdiff to include the upstream patch

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * This bug affects Thunar, and likely other file managers relying on
+ udisks2.
+
+ * When ejecting a USB disk, the disk ejects normally. However, Thunar
+ does not detect that it was successfully ejected.
+
+ * The "Writing data to device" notification will be displayed for some
+ time.
+
+ * Eventually, Thunar pops up an error dialog saying 'Failed to eject
+ "". Timeout was reached.'
+
+ * Thunar will sometimes also exit at this point.
+
+ * It has been determined that the upstream patch included in this
+ upload resolves this error.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ 1. Mount a partition of a USB hard disk or flash drive.
+
+ 2. Using the eject button in the Thunar window sidebar, eject the
+ mounted partition of the USB HDD.
+
+ 3. The disk will spin down and eject normally. The "Writing data to
+ device" notification will be displayed until an error dialog saying
+ 'Failed to eject "". Timeout was reached.'
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Regression potential is very minimal. The patch is from upstream
+ gvfs, contains a single line change, and applies only to the drive
+ stopping event.
+
+ [Original Report]
+
  $ lsb_release -rd
- Description:Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
- Release:18.04
+ Description: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Mount a partition of a USB harddisk

  2) Using the eject button in the Thunar window sidebar, eject the
mounted partition of the USB HDD.

  3) After the USB HDD is ejected and spins down, unplug it
  .

At (2), the disk ejects normally. But Thunar thinks it hasn't been
ejected and is still trying to eject. The "Writing data to device"
notification continues to display. Eventually, Thunar pops up an error
dialog saying 'Failed to eject "". Timeout was
- reached.' Sometimes Thunar will exit after this.
+ reached.' Sometimes Thunar will exit after this.

Same thing happens with some USB flash drives, so the bug can also be
  tested with a pendrive.

2018-03-13 Thread Sean Davis
This does not affect a base install of Xubuntu, but one that is shared
with other installed sessions that pull in the GNOME Control Center and
the Date Time Indicator.

The GNOME Control Center only displays it's configuration tools inside
of a GNOME or GNOME-like environment, and will just show up blank
anywhere else.

To populate these settings, just launch the control center with the
below command.

env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME gnome-control-center

Moving this bug to indicator-datetime since it could be made aware of
the running desktop and gnome-control-center since it seems to be an
intentional functionality of the GNOME desktop.

[Bug 1552512] Re: No application data on install, No screenshots after update

2016-03-08 Thread Sean Davis
Now I am no longer seeing the screenshots on installation for Catfish
and Mugshot. This leads me to another question (and maybe a new bug).

I see that there is a screenshot download error on
http://appstream.ubuntu.com/xenial/universe/issues/catfish.html for
http://screenshots.smdavis.us/catfish/catfish.png

The screenshot in question does exist, but on HTTPS (and is redirected
with HSTS). I can (and will) fix this in the appdata, but I wonder if
this should gracefully handle the redirect?

2016-03-02 Thread Sean Davis
Public bug reported:

When first installed, the "All" section displays something along the
lines of "No application data available". At this time, going to the
"Installed" section and viewing an application with current AppStream
screenshots (tested with Catfish and Mugshot) shows those screenshots.

I then closed Gnome Software, and reopened the application. Now the
"All" section shows featured applications, editor's picks, etc. I went
back to the "Installed" section and viewed Catfish and Mugshot again.
Now their screenshots are no longer displayed.

2015-09-26 Thread Sean Davis
Tested with both Thunar and Nautilus. Cannot restore from trash in
either.

Created the file.
Deleted the file in each file manager.
Tried to restore the file in each file manager.

Nautilus displays:
Could not determine original location of “delete.me”
The item cannot be restored from trash

Thunar displays:
Could not restore "delete.me".
Failed to determine the original path for "delete.me".

[Bug 1114406] [NEW] Gtk.TreeModelSort does not init properly

2013-02-03 Thread Sean Davis
Public bug reported:

In python-gi, attempting to use Gtk.TreeModelSort(child_model), raises
TypeError, saying it takes no arguments. This is incorrect.
Gtk.TreeModelSort uses a child model as its argument.

This works correctly in both quantal and raring, but not precise. The
init api is still the same from pyGTK... http://www.pygtk.org/docs/pygtk
/class-gtktreemodelsort.html

Example code:

from gi.repository import Gtk

model = Gtk.ListStore(GdkPixbuf.Pixbuf, str, str, str, float, str, bool, bool)
sort = Gtk.TreeModelSort(model)

Raises:
TypeError: GObject.__init__() takes exactly 0 arguments (1 given)
