[Bug 2027656] [NEW] blank screen after mutter update

2023-07-13 Thread Tobias
Public bug reported:

Hey,

running on Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS.

I upgraded mutter:amd64 (42.5-0ubuntu1 to 42.9-0ubuntu1) and suddenly
experienced the problem described here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1966808
black screen and logs like in #2 of above post.

My own Logs:

Jul 12 11:35:16 xx gnome-shell[1464]: Failed to lock front buffer on
/dev/dri/card0: drmModeAddFB2WithModifiers failed: Invalid argument
Jul 12 11:35:16 xx gnome-shell[1464]: Failed to lock front buffer on
/dev/dri/card0: drmModeAddFB2WithModifiers failed: Invalid argument

After some investigation and finally finding the bug above here adding
MUTTER_DEBUG_USE_KMS_MODIFIERS=0
to
/etc/environment

fixed it for me. Disabling wayland via /etc/gdm3/custom.conf worked as a
workaround, too.

Output of drm_info is attached.
thanks

Yesterday i upgraded mutter:amd64 (42.5-0ubuntu1 to 42.9-0ubuntu1) and

Seems like the bug was brought back somehow?

[Bug 1987631] Re: Screencast only records one second

2022-08-25 Thread Tobias Heider
Deleting .cache/gstreamer-1.0 doesn't change anything. The bug you mention also
seems to be a different one because I get a video, it is just very choppy.
The upstream bug fix i shared also doesn't seem to help.

Public bug reported:

When recording a screencast with gnome on kinetic the resulting video

[Bug 1987631] Re: Screencast only records one second

2022-08-25 Thread Tobias Heider
Look like a temporary fix for the bug landed in upstream with
https://gitlab.gnome.org/skeller/gnome-
shell/-/commit/398b1c6c79da0bb0630ab7448cd227d85c3985eb#249ab328def8cba907309a9d7c0ddf940776c578.
I will test if this also fixes the bug for me.

[Bug 1970043] Re: [amdgpu] freeze occurs when wayland is connected to a second monitor

2022-05-01 Thread Tobias Grundmann
after enabling fractional scaling you can even disable it again after plugging
in the hub/second monitor (useful because it's blurry).
So my workaround looks like this:
boot -> freeze -> unplug hub -> enable fractional scaling -> plug hub in again
-> disable fractional scaling -> adjust display arrangement -> work

additional observation: when the displays freeze the taskbar is cut off
halfway, like it wouldn't fit completely on the screen.

[Bug 1928791] Re: gnome-shell runs on 60--100% CPU usage

2021-05-19 Thread Tobias Reich
hi, thanks for caring,
re 1. yeah, that's right, I got only the 3 default extensions installed
re 2. and 3. I think I cannot do this anymore, cuz the problem suddenly
disappeared when I reset the "Tweaks" setting to default. So, I reckon, it got
something to do with "unlucky" and/or compromised Tweak settings, but I can't
tell with ones. I set them back to the setting I *think* I've had before. but
the gnome-shell process(es) stay(s) relatively cool, now.

and yes, I got animated indicators in my panel like indicator-multiload and
clock seconds, however this was only a small percentage in difference. The
seconds make up almost no difference at all, and when starting
indicator-multiload, now, the gnome-shell only reaches like 25% CPU usage
instead of 60-100% without indicator-multiload (prior to resetting the Tweak
settings to default).
And I don't think it has to do with my Firefox browser or Thunderbird mail
client, cause also now when open all of them even with multi Firefox instances
(profiles) and Discord, MS Teams. Telegram, Nextcloud client any many more the
gnome-shell still stays absolutely cool:

[Bug 1908089] [NEW] gnome-shell-extension-multi-monitors crash on gnome shell 3.36.4

I've checked https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/921/multi-monitors-add-on/
and it seems that the version 19 of the extension is not compatible with
3.36.4. It seems like you need at least version 20 of
gnome-shell-extension-multi-monitors. So I guess an update is necessary...

[Bug 1778143] [NEW] SIGSEV when turning on display while screensaver is active (gnome-screensaver-dialog crash)

2018-06-21 Thread Tobias Knöppler
Public bug reported:

Since the update to Ubuntu 18.04 (ubuntu budgie) the screensaver stopped
working.

Description of the error:

When I lock the screen, the display turns black (as intended). However, when I
press a key or move the mouse to turn the display again, no login-dialog is
shown - instead I see the lockscreen wallpaper and the mouse cursor shows
graphical glitches (becoming invisible and visible when moving it).
I can unlock again by typing `gnome-screensaver-command -d` into a tty.

I have found out, that the program 'gnome-screensaver-dialog' crashes
with a SIGSEV and causes the described failure. Purging and reinstalling
the package 'gnome-screensaver' did not help. Running 'gnome-
screensaver-dialog' with gdb generates the attached output (which is
hopefully useful for tracking down the problem).

[Bug 1675863] Re: Nautilus crash after renaming an ODS file whilst in Filtered view

2017-09-07 Thread Tobias Ribizel
I ran into this bug as well, see the attached stack trace.

The cause of this bug seems to be the fact that the parent_slot of the
file is empty, so the null pointer at g_class is dereferenced in the
NAUTILUS_FILE_GET_CLASS macro:

(gdb) print *file
$1 = {parent_slot = {g_type_instance = {g_class = 0x0}, ref_count = 0, qdata =
0x0}, details = ...}

[Bug 1714933] [NEW] Xenial: Please roll SRU with upstream fix for networkd to "accept colons in network interface names"

2017-09-04 Thread Tobias Wolf
Public bug reported:

PR: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/5117

issue: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/4057

Before the networkd from 231 was backported, it was possible to use
interface alias names that contained a colon, e.g. eth0:1. This is
commonly used to make legacy tools like "ifconfig" work, because they
*expect* a colon in the interface name.

Martin told me to file a bug for this.

Merging networkd from 231 lead to a regression where valid configs were
not accepted anymore after the backport. Please merge that fix for the
regression.

[Bug 1673165] [NEW] Ignores route depending on other route

Just like iputils refuses to add routes where it doesn't has a route to the
gateway on the device, openvpn seems pretty much to do the same.

Is there anything we can do to help fix this, do you need additional
info? Or what exactly is the case there has not even been a status
update in the last YEARS? Given that this is the most basic
functionality and affects _all_ users, I wonder why not even the
importance has been set?

[Bug 1550319] [NEW] Blurry text in hidpi mode

2016-02-26 Thread Tobias Suchy
Public bug reported:

On every possible zoom level the text appears blurry. Everything else is
sharp as you can see on the attached screenshot. I have set the scale to
2x in displaysettings because i am using a 4k hidpi display. It has
140dpi.

I have marked the text so you can see its not just a scaled image. It is
text. I am able to copy text and paste it in a textfield.

which prevents it from being typed.

So I can't login into the machine anymore.

[Bug 1050261] [NEW] Can't change filename pattern of gnome-screenshot

2012-09-13 Thread Tobias Oelgarte
Public bug reported:

In older versions gnome-screenshot just created files named like
screenshot-1.png which was fine. But in newer versions it is always
named with a long pattern that even includes the time and therefore a
: on my system. This makes it impossible to upload the image to
several hosts without manually renaming it. So i was looking to change
the filename pattern which seams to be impossible without compiling my
own version. I would strongly suggest to allow the user to define an own
pattern or to avoid any format that includes the : character.

[Bug 1026254] Re: Open with on folders was removed, Ubuntu should consider patching back

2012-07-19 Thread Tobias Wolf
Thanks, I think there is going to be a lng list of such options dropped

but I think we should consider added nautilus-3.4 as a separate source for

The problem with that is that the changes in this cycle are *very* hit-

When an item is right clicked and cut or copy are selected, at the time

the menu item is greyed out and not selectable.

[Bug 964991] [NEW] (Maybe GTK+ issue) Left/right keys doesn't expand/fold index parent nodes

2012-03-25 Thread Tobias
Public bug reported:

(Maybe this is a GTK+ issue?)

When I browse the index sidebar, using up- and down keys, it is (?)
expected behavior that a parent node can be expanded/folded with the
left- and right keys.

I'm not sure which key does expand it. Not the enter key or spacebar.
These are apparently linked to the flow of the document in the page
viewer/main container.

The left and right keys doesn't do anything except the standard moving
focus to various widgets.

[Bug 723861] Re: Right clicking on the desktop still displays the “Create Launcher...” option.

2011-11-11 Thread Tobias Fröschle
I don't quite get it:

The panel is definitely a /consumer/ of launchers (because you need them
to do anything usefrul with it). But, with removing the last /producer/
there is no longer a convenient way to create them - You all seem to be
expecting every single program will provide application launchers.
Leaving it as it is, would basically render the complete Unity panel
useless.

I do agree that creating custom launchers on the desktop is probably a
bad idea. I also agree that it did make sense to remove that function.
But I very much disagree that there is no replacement needed - There's
now now no convenient method to add custom programs to the panel.

How about an option on the panel itself to create a custom launcher in
there?

[Bug 858862] [NEW] When super key was pressed while screen is locked, dash appears after login

2011-09-25 Thread Tobias Gauster
Public bug reported:

As I don't think this is a feature, I'm filing a bug report.

When pressing the super key (Windows key, Mod4) when the screen is
locked (ie via Ctrl + Alt + L), then the Dash home is shown with the
cursor in the search field. This is reproducible. I'd expect to find my
session, exactly as I left it ignoring all the commands while the screen
is locked.

Another strange thing happened, which I unfortunately wasn't able to
reproduce: I was pressing a lot of buttons (cleaning my keyboard) while
the screen was locked and suddenly the the desktop showed up. Everything
was blurred also the window for entering the password to unlock the
screen. But hitting Esc I got the usual lock screen.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10
Package: gnome-screensaver 3.1.92-0ubuntu1
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-11.18-generic 3.0.4

[Bug 587856] Re: GNOME Drag Drop broken for remote X sessions in Lucid

2011-09-11 Thread Tobias
The problem persists.
Upstream GNOME/GTK developers are not responding for almost a year now although
a the code has been isolated.
KDE applications do well with drag and drop.

This is annoying.
Is there any workaround (besides using x11vnc as a server?)

Also Mr. Fulton should check his mailer.

Why is this invalid, Andrea? Different plugins can crash Gedit, that
should not be possible.

You conclusion seems premature.

Here's a traceback just using the new LaTeX plugin:

2011-03-25 Thread Tobias
Hi,
* installed nautilus-dbg
* disabled nautilus autorestart in /usr/share/applications/nautilus.desktop and
killed it with nautilus --quit , than ran nautilus in valgrind. This made
valgrind crash!

* installed gtk-dgb, cairo-dbg, glib-dbg debugging symbols
* ran nautilus in valgrind once as usual while nautilus is managing the
desktop, see valgrind_asdesktop.log
* killed nautilus completely then ran nautilus in valgrind using --no-desktop
option, again valgrind crashes with sigsegv, see valgrind_nodesktop_killed.log

* ran a backtrace in gdb as described in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace and added the log

[Bug 713651] [NEW] nautilus crashes in vnc env. on double-click

2011-02-05 Thread Tobias
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I started a vncserver -geometry 1280x1024 -depth 16
* logged on to over local network.

On a simple double-click nautilus crashes when using inside vnc
environment.

The vncserver log says
Initializing nautilus-gdu extension

(nautilus:10512): GConf-CRITICAL **: gconf_value_free: assertion `value
!= NULL' failed

The XsessionErrors.txt provided by apport is irrelevant here, since the
log goes to .vnc/hostname:1.log

On the console on which I started the vncserver I can see the backtrace,
which I attached (backtrace.log).

Any help welcome.

  Binary package hint: nautilus

  I started a vncserver -geometry 1280x1024 -depth 16
  * logged on to over local network.

On a simple double-click nautilus crashes when using inside vnc
  environment.

- The vncserver log says (don't know what information apport provides upon my
Report a bug click, maybe the Xorg.0.log, which is not relevant here):
+ The vncserver log says
  Initializing nautilus-gdu extension

  (nautilus:10512): GConf-CRITICAL **: gconf_value_free: assertion `value
  != NULL' failed
+
+ The XsessionErrors.txt provided by apport is irrelevant here, since the
+ log goes to .vnc/hostname:1.log

On the console on which I started the vncserver I can see the backtrace,
  which I attached (backtrace.log).

  Any help welcome.

[Bug 186307] Re: Window List Invisibility Issue (Programs Disappear And Come Back Randomly)

2011-01-07 Thread Tobias
I am running maverick and this is still an open bug.

Indeed I have no problems when desktop effects are disabled.

(It does not matter to me, if the panel is expanded or not.)

I use the window selector applet and the list gets smaller, just clicking by
two times on the selector.
Then the list stays this size until I change manually to some other window.

But there is some pattern that might help triage the bug:
* the list is a list of minimized and open windows.
* the second time I let me show the list, it is shrunk.
* it always shrinks from the top of the list to the window that was minimized
last (exluding this one, so the lately minimized window is still visible)

thus: if the last window I minimize is the first in the list, the bug is
gone :)

Maybe the code assumes that minimized windows jump to the first position
in the queue of windows or upon minimization some counter/pointer gets
reset to start with the minimized window.

maybe some other people affected can check if my observation is true at
their computer.

I can try to help more, if you tell me how.

[Bug 696035] [NEW] gnome-volume-control sliders work incorrectly

2010-12-31 Thread Tobias Quinn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

The channel sliders using gnome-volume-control always decrease the
volume of the channel when using the mouse scroll wheel. The expected
behaviour is for a mouse scroll wheel to be able to adjust the volume
both up an down.

This is fixed in the upstream git branch gnome-2-32 of gnome-media but
not in the released tarball.

A patch is attached to fix the problem.

[Bug 438016] Re: Evolution is not pulling birthdays, or other items on the personal information tab from Google Contacts

2010-11-24 Thread Tobias Wolf
So, we need libgdata 0.7 in Ubuntu now as per comment #5
[ at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=630358#c5 ]

Though this is still waiting for libgdata 0.7, then there weren't as that many
API changes, thus I got eds ready for it, so when the eds will be compiled
against 0.7 or higher libgdata, then fields like birthday, home page url and
blog url will be available in UI and will be synced forth and back from the
Google server.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 438016 ***

I think we need libgdata 0.7 to support these fields.

The support was committed here:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/libgdata/commit/?id=aa23ec1cdcaaa5511a5ba713bebdbe0f101bf180

But it didn’t go into 0.6.4, so we should upgrade?

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=630358#c5

In any case, this is a dupe of but #438016

[Bug 676595] Re: Nautilus crashed while typing in pidgin-conversation

2010-11-19 Thread Tobias Hofmeister
Hey!

1. Is this reproducible?
I don't think so, actually I didn't notice that Nautilus crashed.

2. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
Well, I just typed a message in a pidgin-conversation and left Nautilus in the
background. That's it.

Actually I just reported this bug because Apport told me to. If I had
known that there'll be so much trouble about it I'd have never klicked
yes ;)

I tried to generate a .crash file but it seems like that crash report is
not available for nautilus.

[Bug 631980] Re: gnome-keyring doesn't unlock ssh key

2010-10-28 Thread Tobias Wolf
I made PPA and put version 2.32.1 of gnome-keyring in it: ppa:towolf/g-k-r-2.32
SSH unlocking works.

Apparently the reason for keeping the pre-release 2.31.91 was that the
delay for forgetting passphrase wasn’t carried over from Gconf. (But
it’s converted in 2.32.1 to GSettings AFAICT):

Not sure we will get 2.31.92 as there is no migration from gconf - gsetting.
 We will maybe keep 2.31.91.
 Built and tested here.

This will get fixed properly eventually:
http://blogs.fedoraproject.org/wp/mclasen/2010/10/09/getting-a-grip/

For one thing the grip area to resize shouldn’t depend on the thickness
of the window borders. And everything wider than 1px looks ugly for the
transparent terminal window.
