Based on LanoxxthShaddow's comment, I don't have .gnome2/session in my
system either. I did delete the entire .gnome2 directory to fix some
issues I was having with an unsuccessful upgrade, so maybe it is
related?

[Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB disk are very slow

2009-02-15 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Perhaps an extra piece of info which may be useful - I've recently bought a
Western Digital Passport portable hard drive. The USB transfer rates with this
drive are good (7-10MB/s).
However the USB flash drive performs as described by others above. The speed
decreases after some 70-80 MB is copied and comes down to ~400KB/s.
Running an up-to-date Intrepid.

[Bug 285695] [NEW] Nautilus asks for user password when launched

2008-10-18 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Steps to reproduce:

Click on Places menu
Click on any option like Home
Nautilus pops up the gksu password prompt.

Clicking on any local bookmarked folder name produces the same result. It
should not do that, but just open the said directory. This started happening
after I upgraded to Intrepid beta from Hardy.
Currently running an up-to-date Intrepid.

Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10

Take a look at the bug data of duplicate bug 262981, which is a similar

Only thing I noticed in both cases is that the internet connection was

crash.

[Bug 219648] Re: Laptop battery runtime reduced in Hardy compared to Gutsy

2008-08-30 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Leann: Yes, the issue is still present in Hardy. Why has this been
marked Incomplete? If you need any information please let me know and
I'll try my best to get it for you. I'm changing the status to Confirmed
as several people have confirmed this issue.

Regarding the 2.6.27 kernel, as I mentioned in another bug report I am
willing to test it if it is available for Hardy and not dangerous to
use. It is not possible to upgrade to Intrepid Alpha as this is my only
laptop.

[Bug 160264] Re: [nvidia] compiz displays white screen when locked

Haha, sorry for the scare!
For me it is a regression - I noticed it happening only after updating to this
version, prior to that it was working fine.

[Bug 219648] Re: Laptop battery runtime reduced in Hardy compared to Gutsy

2008-06-19 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
The other bug is about Fiesty - Gutsy, whereas this bug is about Gutsy
- Hardy. Besides, the other bug has been marked as invalid saying it's
not assigned to the right package. If the package is not right, please
re-assign to the right one or suggest someone do so instead of simply
marking it invalid.

I'm removing the duplicate status. It is still marked invalid against
g-p-m but open against linux.

2008-06-18 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Martin, I meant case 1 only - in the latter case it goes completely black, so
that's fine.
Probably not a security issue (since I didn't really lock the screen), but an
issue still.

Martin,

Please also look at comments 96 and 97. This is a regression which could
be considered a security issue as the desktop is visible when the screen
is supposed to be switched off. I've tested it with hardy-proposed
packages.

Yes, I can confirm this. I have the laptop screen set to turn off after 10
mins, but instead I end up with a dimmed screenshot of the desktop.

It appears this happens only when connected to AC power - when on battery it
turns off completely. Not sure if this is happening always though.

[Bug 219648] [NEW] Laptop battery runtime reduced in Hardy compared to Gutsy

2008-04-19 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I'm running an up-to-date Hardy (AMD64).

Under Windows XP, my laptop battery provides a full 3 hour backup.
Under Ubuntu Gutsy, the backup time has always been 2 hours 30 mins.

With Hardy supporting dynticks which is supposed to bring better power
management to 64-bit machines, I thought that the backup time would go
up. However, ever since I upgraded to Hardy, the battery only provides 2
hours backup! Thats a big drop.

It is not just the reporting time, as I know there are bugs open about
that being displayed incorrectly. But the laptop actually powers off
after 2 hours.

This looks like a regression at the very least.

[Bug 29061] Re: Theme schemas corrupted or missing

2006-06-10 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Ok, I've fixed the problem for myself, but probably not the bug itself.

After a bit of googling, I found that some others were also having the
same problem with GNOME. Running this command fixed the issue to an
extent:

$ sudo gconf-schemas --register desktop_gnome_interface.schemas

The interface schemas were indeed missing, and that fixed the icons
issue. I was also unable to launch the Theme manager before that, now I
can.

I also found out that re-installing the package libgnome2-common would
make things work, so I did that and it all seems to be fine.

Guess I'll close this bug for now, though it might happen to others in
future - who knows ;-)

$ gconftool-2 -g /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme
/apps/metacity/general/theme /desktop/gnome/interface/icon_theme
Human
Human
Human

My theme was also ruined, but that was fixed by removing metacity
completely and reinstalling it.

The applets on the panel were also messed up at the same time - the
window list applet had disappeared and would not get added back. Had to
do a re-install of gnome-panel and gnome-applets to get it back.

Also, gnome-terminal behaviour changed - it's now having a yellow
background instead of white, not having the menu bar anymore.

To add to all this, I'm unable to run any apps from the menu, as when I enter
the user password I get a dialog saying: Failed to run disks-admin as user
root:
Wrong password. - it happens for all apps under System-Admin menu. If I run
it from terminal using sudo, it works fine. Not sure if it's a different bug,
so pls. let me know and I'll fine a seperate report.

All these things started happening at the same time suddenly, which is
why I think they might be related.

I'm currently running the final Dapper release. Started having the issue
suddenly one day (I was running Flight 7 then). It was fine the day
before, but started acting strange on the next day.

In a nutshell, it seems a whole lot of my settings got messed suddenly.

[Bug 42130] Pressing enter on Change Nick prompt doesn't do the default action

2006-04-29 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Public bug reported:

Affects: xchat-gnome (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Pressing enter on Change Nick prompt doesn't do the default action,
which is OK.

To reproduce:
Click on the nick next to the text entry box
Change the nick to something
Press Enter.

Also, I think Change would be a better label instead of OK as per
HIG.
