I'm sorry, after the crash I haven't seen any more of these freezes,
only the caret bug remains (and of course the crash itself)

These bugs are probably related, so I will list them here.
After a recent update, there is a bug where when working with text, when the 
caret is placed in any position, the position starts to change a few characters 
earlier. Also when inserting text, sometimes there is a freeze. At one point, 
when trying to resize a text layer, GIMP ended with an error
